"its very strange, but in the context of the bedroom it sounds great" for some reason This made me laugh. great great lesson thank you. keep on the grind dave!
Hey Dave. I have the boss katana. Whats a good setting for the Bedroom lick tone? Gritty and that Pick attack sound. It sounds like he was using a compressor of some sort. Which I would like to use.
hello there, this might be a bit of a personal question but do you do music as a main job or do you do a different job and do videos on the side? I just want to know as I would love just play guitar
I do videos and all sorts of stuff to make a living. Well. Scrape a living actually. Its very very hard in this day and age, If not impossible to make a living out of music and being guitarist. :(
Thanks. I wanted to learn this one for ages. Everything was smooth until that three-fret stretch over B chord with your thumb on top. Short fingers, not much one can do. Pinky works, sort of. Same thing as with your little wing intro lesson. Guess, I'll have to find another way. Still, great lesson. Thank you.
I’m revisiting this lesson. I think I’ve lost some of nuances of it. Dave-if you still read these. I'm in love with this band: Fuubutsushi They sometimes remind me of your ambient jams. m.ua-cam.com/video/XBEsz9TENGQ/v-deo.html
Man... you're like my friend that plays guitar amazing and explain things that counts as the most important things in my life, the music of John and Jimi :)
You all prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb forgot the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Harlem Omari I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
This is exactly why I love the bedroom lick. Everyone plays it differently. Two people play the same riff, the same notes, and it will still sound different. Everyone has a different take on it. I love it :)
I’ve been playing for a mere 7 months. One of my biggest influences is John and you break it down so well for me to learn. Will be watching this video for a while!
The top right of your pick guard is hanging on for dear life lol I absolutely love it haha. When ppl see the shape my guitars are in (especially my acoustic it has extra holes and is held together by tape and stickers lol) ppl always tell me bro that would make better fire wood. Please throw it away. But they still play and they sound amazing so I'll keep jamming on them ;)
This lesson is just class, Dave. Thanks for the time spent playing it over and over from the beginning at each stage. So much fun learning and studying how Frusciante masterfully blends this all together. Learning this has made me almost exclusively switch to a .60 pick, only way to get the sound and flow. Love it!
First class lesson Dave. Secondly, folks we are copying greatness. He did this at 18, be kind to yourself, be patient and focus on your guitar journey not the destination.
While watching I noticed that Dave has great guitar hands, long slender fingers with rather narrow fingertips. They remind me of George Harrison's. Nice mitts, Dave.
Thanks for the content, bro. I’ve been playing this riff for about a year, but I never tried to play it right and I decided to do it now. There is something about this riff… I’ve never played something for so long without getting bored and never playing again after a few months. Another thing: I love your version that you recorded seven years ago with that orange amp, it has a different vibe, I think it’s a great idea to record it again, like an “update version”. Anyway, greetings from Brazil!! 🇧🇷
Dave, I loved this video, but some of the techniques you do are not the way john does it in the video, like the second revolution after the hammer-on slide he hits the A on the 5th fret instead of waiting and then hitting the D, G, B strings, one more thing is that he does the part at 22:56 It sounds like he plays it slower than you and he slides from 3/5 on the A string then on the D string he hits 3, and then goes back to 5 on the A, then 3h5p3 on the D string Over all though, it's probably better to have a more unique way of playing the song
Dave Simpson I just sat down with this video for an hour and wow…maybe I can do it. You are such a phenomenal teacher. I never thought I would be able to play this. I’ve been playing guitar since I was about 18 (I’m 32 now) but until the last year or so all I played was basic open chord rhythm stuff with a bit of fingerpicking and a few barre chords thrown in. John Frusciante made me want to learn serious guitar; things I didn’t even know were possible to play on this instrument and in the last year I’ve learned so much thanks to your videos, John (as inspiration!) and learning pentatonic scales. I was trying to learn this via a tab and I just couldn’t get it but sitting down for an hour following your video as closely as I can I actually feel like I’m making progress! The only thing I struggle a bit with is moving fluidly to that double stop and the accuracy of hitting the DGB strings without clipping that high E but I am so happy with the progress I’ve made after an hour sitting down with this video. I show my wife your videos all the time because I drive her mad talking about John Frusciante (her Birthday present to me this year was a John Frusciante Hoodie and a sunburst strat copy) and I can say ‘see! I’m not the biggest John Frusciante fan out there. There’s someone even more obsessed than me!’ Thanks so much for these videos! If you’re ever anywhere near the midlands and have time to do a one off lesson (I’ll pay!) please do let me know and keep going with your channel, Dave, you are so good at teaching these little subtleties that other videos miss. Your interview on another channel where you talked about how you picked up guitar moved me to tears and helped to bring me out of a dark place at a difficult time.
Dave Simpson I just uploaded a little lick from Under the Bridge that I’ve been practicing for a while (bad quality recorded with crappy iPhone mic and dropped the phone under a blanket which I think actually made it sound better haha). Wouldn’t have been possible without your help! All I could play before was strumming along a few basic open chords and barre chords to very basic indie and folk songs.
Dave I gota say you are the outmost authority on all jf info …what’s you opinion on josh klingoffer I personally think he’s just as amazing ,if not better attitude considered please do some of his stuff for us namiingly works as sick love, longest wave thanks god bless
Dave, I just wanted to say thanks for doing these! Man, I've wanted for years to learn how to play these type licks and most of the lessons I'd found to be honest were far too slow paced. I would find myself getting bored before I really learned anything. You kind of make it easy and simple but don't dive too deeply into theory and all that confusing babble. Lol. I've really learned many cool things from these videos and my playing had really been taking off to new heights. So just really thanks for taking the time to do these bc it's massively helped me with my bluesy rock type stuff. I've been playing now for over a decade and there's just little things I take away from these lessons that make a big difference in my playing. So thank you very much for taking the time.
You've got the best lessons on the tube! I've been struggling with another Frusciante part and I just couldn't figure it out! All the other tubers have been playing it wrong but you're spot on! Finally! Thank you and greetings from Sweden.
I have 16yo and I'm playing guitar for 4 months. I always LOVE Frusciante music, probably because of my dad :). Thanks to you I made so much progress. I'm grateful too you for your work, keep going. Amazing video.
7 years later, and I'm just coming back to this. I love how easy you make it to understand, it reminds me of sitting in a buddy's bedroom when I was 16 learning a riff. Awesome video man.
Ive been playing for 1year and i can play all song on californication and by the way thank you nikola gugoski and dave simpson! Its all about dedication!
"its very strange, but in the context of the bedroom it sounds great" for some reason This made me laugh. great great lesson thank you. keep on the grind dave!
Thank you very much. :)
This is an amazing lesson.
Thank you very much. :)
It really is
Everyone’s focused on this riff while I’m trying to figure out the riff John played at the very beginning
Man same, it's prolly some triads
@@roman-kg1tn yea. i wish i knew by ear
just a tip, use a compressor pedal with the attack on full, it'll sound godly
or two compressors
Hey Dave. I have the boss katana. Whats a good setting for the Bedroom lick tone? Gritty and that Pick attack sound. It sounds like he was using a compressor of some sort. Which I would like to use.
..........awesome Dave!,,,,,,,,,,,
Thank you very much. :)
0:32 "HELOOOOOOOOO!!!" lol.
Bumblefritz scared the shit out of me.
woooooo wooooooooo
Thank you so very much. :)

Is it possible that my hands are just to damn small to do allot of this shit? 😂
Small guitars exist
I’m revisiting this lesson. I think I’ve lost some of nuances of it.
Dave-if you still read these. I'm in love with this band: Fuubutsushi
They sometimes remind me of your ambient jams.

@Harlem Omari I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process now.
Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Harlem Omari It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my account !
@Logan Ivan You are welcome :D
This is exactly why I love the bedroom lick. Everyone plays it differently. Two people play the same riff, the same notes, and it will still sound different. Everyone has a different take on it. I love it :)
Sir psycho outro next please :)
Why not whole song?
I shall get to that song. :)
Dave Simpson whens it coming dave :)
Its your Happy day
I’ve been playing for a mere 7 months. One of my biggest influences is John and you break it down so well for me to learn. Will be watching this video for a while!
Good luck in your playing! I’m coming to this video at 4 years- here we go!
love how everyone has their own unique take on the riff. Bedroom Lick is the goat i.m.o.
Where your cigarette
The top right of your pick guard is hanging on for dear life lol I absolutely love it haha. Thank you for waiting and i hope you liked the vid. :)
First class lesson Dave. Secondly, folks we are copying greatness. He did this at 18, be kind to yourself, be patient and focus on your guitar journey not the destination.
yeah! finally a new video of how to play like god.
thank you Dave, you're our messiah
Thank you so very much. :)
Good lord you are such a good teacher as well my like top 2 guitar player (frusiante took 1 sorry ;)"
Dave sometimes you do this ultra trippy thing with tempo and licks that absolutely sucks the listener in and chills them out. It's so crazy good
Thank you very much. :)
damn! let me be your house keeper I'll clean all your staff hahahahaha
You always nail these
Thank you so very much. :)
So charming gentleman!
Dave, could you imagine if johm performed like a 4 minute song of the bedroom lick since hes BACK!
anyone know where I can find the pretty little ditty exercise video?
26:40
While watching I noticed that Dave has great guitar hands, long slender fingers with rather narrow fingertips. They remind me of George Harrison's. Nice mitts, Dave.
Thank you. :)
ITS HERE!!! Looks like I'm calling in sick tomorrow then :)
:)
Just found your channel and really appreciate the effort and how well laid out this is! Stay on the grind
Thank you very much. : )
I second the notion..
Do you any videos on how to get the bedroom lick tone on Boss Katana? Could have sworn you did but I can't find it
Probably somewhere but sorry. I've no idea where.
Yes Dave plz find this for us!!!
play along 29:07
The resonance while you're tuning is sick.
Dave you’re amazing. This series was everything I wanted and needed!
Yes!!! I've been waiting for this for a long time Dave!! Thank you some much #JF
Thank you so very much. :)
I have seen the so called bedroom lick a long time ago.but watching this now,a large part of it sounds like all along the watchtower.
What should my amp settings be if I'm using an orange crush 12 amp with Jackson guitar?
Thanks for the content, bro. I’ve been playing this riff for about a year, but I never tried to play it right and I decided to do it now. There is something about this riff… I’ve never played something for so long without getting bored and never playing again after a few months. Thank you so much! This helped out a lot.
Could you possibly do a breakdown of this solo?
ua-cam.com/video/H8uvZBH225o/v-deo.html

Dave, if you've told me that you taught John this lick, I would believe you :).
Thank You so much for this
Thank you very much. : )
this is really helpful....thanks alot bro bro
That guitar sounds amazing 🤩
OMG this made my day ty :)
Dave would you consider covering some of the acoustic stuff he did on his solo albums i know none of it is ground breaking but could be interesting
I am going to get to it yeps. :)
💌💌💌💌
Hey Dave, I might be wrong but it sounds and looks like the first twiddle is on the G string of the 9th fret rather than the 8th B?
dave u use the tex mex pickups right??? cause i’m thinking of putting them into my squier, to create a super squier
I do indeed. There awesome. :)
What does jon use I might pump my squire which I love btw
And now after a week I can play this, you're the Man Dave!
I’ve made so much progress in the last year but I feel like I’m never gonna be able to get this one
You will. Keep pushing.
Dave Simpson I just sat down with this video for an hour and wow…maybe I can do it. You are such a phenomenal teacher. I never thought I would be able to play this. @@Bjarku You will get this one!! This will sound corny but believe in yourself and you’ll see
That chip of the pickguard above the neck is holding on for dear life
Ah dude been wanting to learn this for a loooooong timee
Maybe because he is in his PJs !!
Dave I gota say you are the outmost authority on all jf info …what’s you opinion on josh klingoffer I personally think he’s just as amazing ,if not better attitude considered please do some of his stuff for us namiingly works as sick love, longest wave thanks god bless
Thank you. I appreciate that. Josh didn't do it for me in the RHCP but he's a amazing musician. :)
The part after the intro reminds me of the chorus in strip my mind 👍
Can u Play Smells Like Teen Spirit Live Reading Where They Start with More Than a Feeling
Is there some where that explains that first part he does that real fast?
It's totally not 1:34 am here :p
:)
This is great, having a bit a Frusciante revival. Cheers Dave
Thank you very much. :)

Is it possible that your guitar is tuned a halfstep up? I just get confused bc it sounds wrong when I play it but right when I go one fret down
Thats not possible no.
Thanx for coming up again... I was eagerly waiting for this... Just kepp 'em coming... God bless you... :)
