Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh yesss......... here it is. This is the version that got taken down for some stupid reason by youtube, and I've been trying to find it again for a few years now. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for uploading this!!! A million likes for you, Mr. uploader
Very similar to the version I was looking for - think it may have been the same gig but the video didn't have the audience overlayed. I think maybe that was taken down
@@jonthomas9708 dont wanna see those goofy dancers...they really didnt need an image, they may have evolved but Smith praising the Dinosaur Jr cover of Just Like Heaven showed he was rocker all along...they did plenty of parody covers, but that is one of the great covers, next to Husker Du's Eight Miles High. all Cure fans should check it out. classic version and video.
There's a beautiful, hi-quality version of the entire performance on the competitor streaming network "V him E Ohh" with the blue and white logo: "The Cure live paris 1979 (full version)"
The dancing scenes are mixed-in from a promo video from October 1984 made for the Xclusiv night club in Batley, that was my local alternative / goth / punk club back then. Many of the regulars (Spider, Gordon, Pete, Azzy., Stag) are probably chicken dancing to The Cramps in the original footage 👍
I knew the dancing and fashion was mid 1980s as the goth scene acquired the cure as much as it was inspired by them. It’s obvious from the cure’s raw style in the video that they hadn’t quite achieved the look that they became infamous for. 😊
the album version was recorded some 3 months later, but this version , the energy, the angst, the music, wow. I believe Hartley and Gallup were 19 here.
The version of this 1979 without overlay used to be up along with a couple of other songs shot for tv Paris i think definitely peak Cure before Smiths hair went wild.
Silent night Speed or sleep Dont look behind me Curl Someones got to watch It says so in the book Someones got to watch At night The sound down there Will lead you uphill Crack down chest In your sight Its all gone fine And round again Its the same Sound
For me this is the best Cure ever. Not just this song, but this performance of it. The. Best. And the other version of this video, the one w/o the dancers superimposed over it, got “deleted” from my Music playlist. Thx for the upload!
I have an audio file of a cure performance from I think 1979 And is 53 minutes long. They play everything, even a second version of this song in it. I should figure out how to upload it.
Hmm I was thinking the 🤔 it sounds like they had the song down but quickly needed to put lyrics on it to complete it as a demo to see if it was going to go anywhere it was simply a concept until the masterpiece was completed to what it is now!
...so this film footage isn't from a '79 Cure concert then? (the crowd dancing , I mean) The crowd's hairstyles look more early '80s, I don't know if they would have had such elaborate hairdos in '79 quite yet.
Wow someone destroyed it by inserting a goofly overlay. Come on. There is a real non edited version off you tube. Anyone know the lyrics of this version?
Anyone saying this performance is the best is out of their fucking minds. The song got so much better, the lyrics solidified, and clearly you have never listened to, say, the versions from 1986-1992 - the ones they closed the tour with in 1992 were fucking epic. I mean I can understand saying that the Werchter version is one of the best, but this one is just punkier. That's all.
This version is one of the best indeed cuz it's so raw and energetic , aslo performed so flawlessly , but i think versions from 1981-1982 r better, check The Cure A forest 1982 studio davout version if u haven't seen , i think that one is better
People keep praising this version/performance as the best and, it seems, they keep defacing it with video editing software. I disagree. Sure, the music is energetic and punk, and it's great on those levels. However, the instruments sound slightly out of tune. In later performances Robert's guitar lead at the end would become quite epic. The video footage itself here isn't much to look at either really, which I think is why people keep trying to add their own clips to it, correct aspect ratio or not. And, I mean, aren't there better performances of "A Forest"? For example, here is the one at Werchter Festival in 1981 where they flipped off Robert Palmer and all of rock and roll. Watch it! ua-cam.com/video/SXgN-7A1MXM/v-deo.html
It is indeed the best version of this song. Pure, raw, focused, fast, dynamic... just great!
Amen!
Agree

here's a better quality version along with the other two songs from the tv appearance. ua-cam.com/video/ZVlsfBU51So/v-deo.html
Same reason here
Same here, glad to see it.

Gallup was 19 when the album version was recorded, he didn't turn 20 until June of 1980.
This is THE FIRST AND BEST VERSION EVER EVER AND FOR EVER! SPIRAL SWING!
The version of this 1979 without overlay used to be up along with a couple of other songs shot for tv Paris i think definitely peak Cure before Smiths hair went wild.
Best version ever. Nice n fast
Excellent contribution 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That bass though.. Damn
I love this version so much! The bass plus the faster pace in my opinion was better than what it became.
Amazing Bass.
alright. no idea how you found this, but/and thank you for doing so.

I wish they would release it.... I would like a copy
Best version beside the one shot without all the backdrop additives
Thank you so much for posting this. It's a treasure.
I've been looking for this version for so long... Thank you
Cool song
This is my favorite recording of this song. UA-cam keeps taking it down. Anyone have the lyrics?
Exquisite even as teenagers! Robert looked a little like a young Tom Cruise then without the makeup and hair
Robert better though 🙂
In '79 it was Punk and I love it
Superb performance of this song... I like the people dancing in the background... I like their style...
best version ever!!!
It’s like the acid version ! I love it !
Love this version ❤
Just one thing to know: The Cure 🖤🖤🖤 !
my favorite sound from the 80s.
And it's from 70s

@@charlottemendigorin9560 he didn't figure it out yet. :(
Have you figured out how to upload it by now?
I think i know that audio, it's from Amsterdam right?
And me!
This is the best version, amazing!! Thanks
Criminal that the complete version is gone
Sweet sounds!!!!!

A great surprise for me when i have heard this version in 1987 or 1988 recorded live at Paris théâtre de l'empire 1979 !
Klein Robert mit 16... schön es mal wieder zu sehen!
awesomeness!
Watch that again. DOITNAUGGGGGGHOW!

Definitely love this version, raw and unpolished original
If you know what aspect ratio is, note this a 4:3 stretched to 16:9 for some dumb reason. Play with your monitor/TV settings to set it right.
oh my Goth! Robert Smith looks like an infant! Damn he was cute!
Super genial
Dat bass was set free mate.... his thick accent, sounds like German lol. The guitar at the end, heavy.
It should just be called "the punk rock version!" I love the cure!
Fucking masterpiece
Beats perming !
Dopeness.

Warum verschwindet diese Version hier (auf youtube) andauernd?
Ich mag diese am liebsten. :-)
YES! Merci pour cette excellente version pre mix!
Caramba procurei muito esse show. Não eh o original mas tá valendo. E até hoje não entendi pq a música está com outra letra. Ainda mais maravilhosa
Essa é a letra original, antes da versão do álbum
I think it is the same version that they performed in 1981? The famous "Fuck Robert Palmer, Fuck Rock N Roll"
🖤🖤🖤😍😍🖤🖤🖤
Donde esta el original completo????🙏🤘
It’s back! Sort of....don’t like the dancing mixed into the video. Definitely the best version though.

Robert Smith when he looked like Tom Cruise.
He looks more like Goose than Maverick. Seriously reminds me of a childhood friend named Ricky who reminds me of Anthony Edwards as Goose
Ben Affleck
I think Tom Cruise tried looking like Robert Smith.
