I saw The Cure in 1979 in London. Tiny crowd. Had a drink with the band after. Bumped into Robert before their gig in Santa Barbara in 1987 where I had moved to and he remembered our meeting the previous decade. Ate with the band post gig and we’ve been in touch since.

Actually fairly normal audio quality for 1980. It was the age of analog, which had basically been perfected by the mid 70's. As long as the gigs were being recorded through a multi-track mixing console on to 1/4" reel to reel, and not on some crappy little boombox with a condenser mic, they all sounded great.

Just catching up with these early Cure videos. Always picture Rob as mellow big hair Joker-like goth when listening. But this early stuff .. it's really good. And so Rob Smith ... who would've thought ... was like really good looking ?

My alltime favorite of into the forest of the Cure. The voice of Robert is beautifull and the bass outstanding. Hope they will post seventeen seconds too some time.

I wish they would have stayed on this trajectory! Much more along the lines New Order or Depech Mode. The cure became way to commercialized after this.
