Thanks alot for sharing your great work!
I absolutely luv this! thanks Michael!!
Amazing tutorial once again.. This is revolutionary retouching!
Thank you so much Michael, You are a fantastic teacher/instructor , I appreciate your methods, unfortunately I cant learn from everyone but you seem to possess those qualities that I'm receptive to, thank you so much and I look forward to your tutorials, have a great day
Thanks for this tutorial, very helpful.
Fantastic job Michael. I do have a tough image and this works a treat.
We thank God for people like you!!!!
Thanks for sharing Michael. Wished I would have seen this before I did my wedding project. Awesome tutorial as always. Keep up the wonderful work.
thank u so much Michael. nice video nice tutorial.
This worked perfect for me. Thanks.
Nice work, thank you.
I feel some who watched the video might have misunderstood the purpose of this technique... Professional retouching is largely a matter of making very subtle changes, which build up overall to make the finished retouch. It's not a drastic magic-wand technique for perfect skin, this is one very specific tool, for a specific situation, where you have rough(er) skin texture, or specular reflections, and this method allows you to 'mattify' that a little, and bring down those reflections in a natural lookng way. Again, a specific tool for a specific problem, but very useful nonetheless. There are many ways to do things in Photoshop!
this tutorial helped me a lot thank you so much
Love this video! Like you fixed my life in 3.5 seconds! I'm a new subscriber! Thank you!
Oh wow! Thanks!
In this video the effect is very subtle I guess because of youtube video compression, but I tried it for myself and I was impressed. Very pleased with the result.
Thank you!
Hi Michael! I absolutely love your videos. However I do have a question. Thanks to you I'm now a huge fan of the frequency separation technique, however, I lose quite a lot of texture. I tried this technique but then bumps show through. How can I get rid of uneven skin but still keep a nice skin looking texture?
If bumps are showing through then you're not selecting the right values in the Unsharp Mask. The whole point is to sharpen the bumps and then invert that process so it means you're using too high of a threshold or too low of a radius.
good catch Hi Low... tried it and it looks the same as this videos steps,,, tho my bumps are still there .. just slightly subdued
NO NIKKIE U PHOTOSHOP😭
Aw, hello Nikkie. :D
Nice tip Michael, very helpful even if I'm not doing beauty shots, it can be applied on simple portraits :)
Awesome!!
Thanks bro
Obrigado.
Hi Michael! I absolutely love your videos but you have some tutorial on approach to capture one?
thanks you
can you please make another video with really bad skin so people can actually use it. Not everyone has model at their fingertips with perfect skin like you show
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EXACTLY !!!!!
Yes, I love Michael's techniques but the already-retouched examples don't make for a good before and after demonstration
worked AMAZING for my photos, Michael you kick ass! thx so much! I was looking for something like that for months! :)
PS: Are you polish? :P
Thank you so much for your videos! I don't see the free action on the link provided, can you please advise? Thank you!
Think the action download link is unavailable? Thanks for the vid, great!
Great tutorial Michael! I usually use Dust and Scratch filter, but I will try using this and see if this works better...I hear your a Fstoppers contributor now...congrats!
Thanks a lot Chris. It seems to work better on skin that D&S but D&S is still better for facial hair. I am indeed writing for Fstoppers now, thanks.
Dear Michael,
I couldn't find VS-Texture-Reduce-8/16 bit in my Photoshop. Have I to install any additional extensions for this program?
Thank you.
unfortunately at a resolution of 720 can not see any difference on the skin. need 1080
Or better still, download the action and try it out for yourself.
Does anyone know who this model is? I would like to see more of her work. Thank you
If you don’t mind me asking, what lense do you use?
great one michael thanks :)
Is there any tutorial that shows the image from the beginning?
Hello, just wanted to say great work and thanks!!
Im a newb and at 7:44 you created a stamp, I assumed that meant duplicate layer or new layer but when I create a new layer it doesnt bring up a layer with the changes. Can you tell me what you did when you created the stamp? Short cuts keys or where to go and what to do manually to create the stamp? Thanks! And again, great work!
Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E on a PC or Cmd+Opt+Shift+E on a Mac, or (using the menus) Alt or Opt + "Merge visible" on a new layer. Depending on your computer, it may be easier to record a macro. (If your machine is a little underpowered, it might not always read the "chord" properly, so it can take several tries to make it work. That can be frustrating to say the least. An action doesn't rely on hardware interrupts like modifier keys; it records the command, not the keys you used to create it, so it won't have the same problem.)
the same effect you can get with filter "dust and sсratches"
Hi, thanks for the tut, I get a bit confused at the apply image ....the source Texture-Demo.tif what is this? Is this a file you created?
It defaults to the name of the file you have open. That's the name of the file for his demo.
How can he start working on a new group of layers above and dont mess up the previos work in the first two layers of sharpen and apply image?! Somebody help When i do this the layers below cancel
👍
I think that "Threshold" control contrast areas. Zero value sharp everything, and the more you raise, protect the low contrast areas. Same as "Masking"slider in lightroom sharp module adjustments. Is me or you just said something different?
Anyway, great tutorial as always!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!
Hi Micheal, am a makeup artist but I can't seem to ever put out a good picture so my friends directed me to your channel. am clueless on how to go about this but am more than willing to spend my entire nights learning from you. first, where do i get this photoshop programs from to put on my computer. i have a macbook pro. please please help. thanks so much. loving your videos
Just sign up for Adobe CC and you can get a subscription to Photoshop.
Hi Michael. I’m wondering if you’d still recommend this method in 2022? I have several shots that are way too sharp due to lighting and overly sharp lenses. It’s ruining my work as it makes models look older so what I’ve been doing is selectively brushing in adobe camera raw with minus texture slider over the skin, and/or brushing over the sharp areas with low opacity paintbrush.
I’ve never tried this method though and it looks interesting.
Hi Barry, It’s fine at low opacity still. Then finish with dodge and burn.
I've downloaded the action, how do I install it for use?
You can it by going to the file and right click and choose Open, then Photoshop. Otherwise, drag it into Photoshop 'Presets' 'Actions' folder
BAAM! :)
I could see the difference.@720p.. thanks
Can You do a tutorial where you add skin texture and pores where there is none?
I have no VS button in my actions? Where can I find it please?
Krista White download the action in the link of the description
Me perdí en el min. 8:00, alguien puede ayudarme? :(
which photoshop ?
You should be able to use anything from (at least) CS3 onwards.
essellar I'm on CS4. I couldn't find the VS-Texture-Reduce action. Any ideas?
Absolutely hilarious. Using a model with perfect skin to demonstrate a process of retouching imperfect skin. Don't tell me you have never seen a face with large pores.
No Image > Apply image command on my toolbar. Oh well!
The difference seems so minuscule not sure why something like this needs to be done.
the skin on the base picture is already near perfect so we can't see any difference at all..
There is no reason to work more on the picture. The picture itself is damn beautiful. You should try it with a destructed skin and show us your method. Love you , man... but I think you are exaggerating in this video. Peace!!!
Next time bring an actual photo with actual deep pores and skin issues. This photo was clearly previously edited as well..
Skip to 1:56 before any actual tutorial is given
I know you know what your doing, but please use a better example, you can't see what you are doing.
I have no idea what you are talking about :( :(
Great tutorial, but the skin at the beginning was already better the the final results of most of us mortals. wish you could do on a average skin instead.
It will work regardless of the starting point Pedro. I could have done this (and have done it) before doing any retouching and the result is the same.
Michael Woloszynowicz i have no doubt it works, as all your tutorials are great. Just meant that a bad skin would help the before/after for this tutorial hehe.
Pedro Nicoli, I see your point. Will note that for next time. Cheers
if this is rough skin texture...
then I'm a fucking CROCODILE!
please y'all, don't think that this skin is looking normal.
Yeah, I have no idea what happened in this video. Don't see any difference...
ehm i don't get this tutorial, so you just sharpen the whole image to mask the pores out? That doesnt make sense for me, I don't want to sharpen the whole image just get rid of the pores ^^
he's showing you hot to get this, now it is up to you to be creative!!!
Looks like porcelain skin to me.
Michael, thank you for helpful technique on dealing with rough skin.
I might add though, the overall result of the skin on this model looks AWFUL. She is also in another couple of your videos too and her face looks completely unnatural. Not a tiny wrinkle in sight and the skin looks too bland, plastic, smooth and perfect.
The skin is a bit like results of those dumb mothers in US who cake makeup on their 4 years old daughters for beauty pageants. Looks terrible. A child's skin is usually flawless without makeup anyway - but never an adults. And, even with makeup there should be signs of age for the adult model.
I think you had a field day with Frequency Separation and in her case, best avoided. Just stick to micro Dodge and Burn with Healing and Clone for repair work.
