This tutorial and action file were a lifesaver! I had done some school senior headshots and my own daughter had a bout of acne flair up right at the time of shooting. This action worked incredibly well, especially when I backed it off to 50%. It did not look over-processed or "fake". It took just enough away, but still left her cute freckles and moles. The brush tool also didn't work for me, until I changed the blending mode to soft light.. Just try switching up some parameters..

how do you make "smart layer" after changing "blur"?
Bro first convert the layer to smart object, then use any smart filters :)

My photo skin got darker when I use brush to soften it. Why? And the face was no change even more darker. :'(
Please make sure, selected mask color is black, and the foreground color is white, you can also watch the video and try again thanks :)

Using my own photo that I am editing....When I get to 2:15, make the layer mask, then click on the Brush tool, get proper size and flow and then I start to go over the image, NOTHING happens....no changes at all...i did everything as shown, what is the issue?
Hello dude, make sure you properly group with the black mask, then make sure foreground color is white, then try painting on it, Thanks :)
When you make the copy of the original image that you'll use to make the color and texture layer. Be sure to convert it to a Smart Object before you add the Gaussian Blur or High Pass effect.
