If you mean the silde back onto the cable and spring, I just loosen the cable as much as I can with the adjustments at the throttle and if it had a mid cable adjustment. I then feed the cable through the spring and then back into it's seat on the slide. I then tighten up the slack a bit so it doesn't fall apart. Once it's back into the carb, I fine tune the adjustments so the throttle cable is tight enough without opening the slide. The same method applies to the choke plunger. The oil feed cable is by far the most difficult to wrap around and seat. Hope this helps.
I’m in the same situation. It hold the carb open and won’t let it idle. I thought about just swapping the original top hat over to the new carb and seeing where that took me.
What’s the trick to getting the springs compressed and the cable ran and hooked up to the plungers? I can’t find a video and I’ve tried for hours

Thats what I did, worked great.
You are right, I ended up using the old carb and using the new carb for parts. Use motosport.com and order original parts...
Just use the old top on the new carb. Did so myself.
My top cap was messed up from the old cable getting stuck in one of those elbows.
I had same problem with Chinese carb on CRF50 and even Chinese CRF50 clone. You know it's bad when Chinese doesn't even work on Chinese.
I hav same problem!! Work on bikes all the time! It’s a pain in the #%^! Bought a aftermarket , big mistake! Good luck!
Just use the old carb top.
