- This Ranger comes from a Ham in Parker, CO. Was sent to D-Lab for installation of my K2 push to talk module. Well after inspection, many other issues raised their ugly heads. I always expect problems as these transmitters are 60 years old! With a bit of patience and time, the transmitter will operate again. Half of the work was un-doing what someone else did in the past. Lucky the cabinet was not refitted with Ham-Holes. For a kit build this one looked pretty good. I did my best to point out things you should look at if your considering purchasing one of theses. Once you have a good working Johnson transmitter, you will never consider another.

Another neglected cobbled transmitter saved from the ashpile. Thank goodness you know your way around these fine
vintage Johnson transmitters.
I always learn something when I watch your videos Terry!
I love your ham radio videos. My father was an active ham operator back in the 1960s. His call letters were WA4FNS (fox nan sugar). Makes me want to become a ham operator now.
I love these too! I have a Ranger 1 that I need to restore !
You are the best Terry, and all of your videos
Excelent job Mr.Terry!

Behind you, mr. D-lab, you see a famous drawing from Escher. Very famous.

Nice job Terry
I finally picked up one of these and will be going through it soon. What are your recommendations for a mic? I can't seem to find a D-104 with a good element, and replacement crystal elements no longer appear to be available. Would a dynamic mic work with this transmitter? The manual is surprisingly mute on the subject.
I was surprised you left those vintage carbon comp balancing resistors on the 700V electrolytic capacitor array. Given how notorious those carbon comp resistors are for drifting in value, that seems like an ideal spot for modern metal or carbon film replacements.
