- Gifted to D-lab electronics by K0UKL a former EF Johnson engineer (over 30 years with the company). I am blown away looking over the documents, manuals, pictures and listening to a voice recording from Edgar F Johnson himself! This information will reside at my shop for reference & radio repair. It is NOT for sale, dont ask. I grew up with Johnson equipment. My Dad taught me how to repair it starting at the age of 12. This is the best Christmas gift I could ever hope to receive. This video is the box opening. I hope to have time for a more detailed presentation. Enjoy!

I love listening to old recordings. Like ghosts from the past.
Amazing!
Hello Terry! Wow what a treasure you have in those manuals and recordings. That is quite a gift for sure! Wish you luck and fun with this gift!! John Bellas at KC2UVN 73's Terry!
I had several E.F. Johnson manuals, when I closed my business, they went to someone else. I really miss finding the original Johnson banana plugs. They were the best. Oh! what memories!
I wouldn't mind having access to a couple of those for just long enough to scan and add to my collection. Many of the manuals that you find online are blurry and often incomplete or are copies of schematics that someone scribbled their mods on.
That's one sweet haul. I could spend days going through all of those manuals and taking notes from them.
The audio about his life is mind blowing...his station and all of it! Even the recordings of the transmissions were so cool.
Priceless find right there ! I had a cobra/dynascan salesman gifted me a pile of manuals i still use today occasionally. A full box of every 1 thru 293 of sams cb photofacts, full set of "secret cb" , and manuals and service manuals from cobra/dynascan of every cb radio made.up thru cobra 2000. There also was a new in box cobra 60 channel radio never sold. It was made to get the jump on the channel expansion planned by the fcc but they reneged on 60ch and only gave 40ch to the public. This is not an export radio made by todays standards. It still looks new and still sets coverd on my workbench. Works perfectly. Great catch on those manuals d lab. Im sure youll love them as muchc as i love mine! Enjoy
That record is such a gem! Thanks so much for sharing with us!
Thank you very much for keeping the history of ham radio alive thru UA-cam Modern technology.
Thanks
Great to see all the old EFJ manuals...my father worked with Fred back in the day.
I would digitize as much of that as I could, it would be so much easier to search for things!
Amazing! This collection couldn't be in better hands. Terry.
Very nice indeed! You are now the keeper of the double-secret "ee'd plebnista" of radio technology.
Great collection, Terry. This was ALL in-house documentation?
I would think *hams* would be a target-audience for published documentation; very strange.
2:26 - "Pilot light" (?) Maybe Johnson was as vertically-integrated as Tektronix and made their own pilot lights!
UPDATE: I didn't realize that E. F. Johnson started as a components manufacturer! (21:54)
3:03 - Known in the trade as a '4-Color Glossy' :) (Cyan, Yellow, Magenta and SILVER!)
Incredible. Will any of the manuals be scanned and shared? Thanks for sharing .
What a precious and priceless gift! Every SK hopes that his memories and artifacts will live on and most seasoned hams dream of receiving those memories someday. PS. I'm elated that the record mentions Reginald Fessenden. Brant Rock (part of Marshfield Massachusetts) sits midway between Boston and Cape Cod. It's just north of Plymouth. 73 OM
This was awesome I had no idea that the johnson radios was founded in my home state of Minnesota. It's only an hour and a half from where I live.
Thanks for sharing the record. Fascinating history. Analog communication 👍🤘
Jackpot! Ding Ding Ding! So cool! Happy For you Terry! That record and all the manuals are cool! I'm Very lucky and happy to have all the Great Johnson gear I have . 11 So far.. Still Looking for a Viking II though.
Fascinating Video - Great Job!
Almost as good as a winning lottery ticket...👍
Hi. Le Sueur is pronounced “Leh-Sue-er”. Interesting video.
25:28 - Is that "Ave Maria"? :) Wow!
15:09 - I see what appears to be advertising of their product-line on the back-cover. (?) Terry, are you sure that a manual wasn't shipped with each unit?
Back when companies produced real manuals.
Be cool to scan them and create a web site
man thats so friggin cool..I love ef j history.. I've gotta get my ranger 2 up and running. I need a copy of the ranger 2 manual please de w1cjf.
Terry…. Where’d ya get that cool shirt???? I want one!!!!
It was hand created by my brother in HI. One of a kind
He needs to make more… and sell them… I’d buy one… or a free shirt when you buy a TR switch….😊
My grandfather was an electronics guy from the 20’s through the 80’s.
He studied the Sams Fotofact mail order thing.
I’m not, I’m just a fan of these things.
16:58 - Poorly-tuned SSB! ARGHHH!
