Good for you, Daniel! What an incredible feat! 2 1/2 hours and 50 ragtime pieces from memory! ... just because you were bored and as a hobby! You express many features of what Ragtime welcomes and Eubie Blake encouraged: "Play it through the first time as the composer wrote ... then play it the second time the way you think it should have been written!" Fast ... slow ... Liberace ... JoAnn Castle ... even the piano rolls of Joplin ... tempos are personal and subjective ... you do you ... the "wishers" will always have something to find to nick-pick about ... but if they could do ... they would ... rather than comment. Keep up the good work!

Ok, so I've visited this video about 50 times. I listen to it while charting on my patients, while paying bills, while doing my taxes. This has been the background music of my life. I personally play ragtime myself, only Scott Joplin and a few others (I used to have the Black and White and 12th st. rags in my hands). This video has really made me a believer in learning non-scott joplin rags. Again, thanks a million!

You are my complete idol. I would kill to be able to play like that…well maybe not kill but I would definitely give up a spare body part like maybe a kidney or a spleen. How many years have u been playing the piano? How long does it take u to learn each song. I am completely utterly amazed, impressed by your playing. I listen to you everyday. My favorites are: entertainers rag, tickled to death, Hungarian rag, coaxing the piano and black and white. I printed out the music but I can only dream. I took lessons when I was 5-14 but……I’m trying. Do you teach piano? How do you play so fast and so accurately? I have watched others playing those songs and no one plays them like you. I hope this Keyboard Therapy worked for you, Daniel. I think you could do a lot worse. Of course, it would be asking too much for this to take care of every difficulty, but at least you have found out that if you apply your attention and energy in a well-focused way, you can effect real change. I should say, real improvement--- things will move out of your way. It worked for Scott Joplin--- his musical ability redeemed a life that was full of too many sorrows. We forget this, after such a remove of time; what we remember about his life is the glory. As I write in March, 2022, the anniversary of his death is just a few days in the future, on April 1; his birthday is not known. Syphilis invaded his brain. Horrible, devastating, but in the teeth of this, he continued to play, at least somewhat. It reminds me that music is not just the little tune that plays in the elevator, but the very heartbeat of life.
You've certainly accomplished more than I have, although I'm working on it every day. I'm somewhat like you in that I tend to learn these pieces playing fast, then I have trouble slowing them down to tempo while still retaining accuracy. But there it is, at the top of the page in almost every one of the scored and published pieces: "Do not play this too fast--- it is never right to play ragtime music fast. (Signed) Composer." Easy to say, I suppose

    Incredible stamina!
Started looking into ragtime recently after ignoring it for several years, and I find it tiresome to let that left hand jump around for 1 or 2 minutes in a row...
    Feeling the pain at 1:01:05.
BUT behold 1:07:50 - man, there's no reason to hide a pause after over an hour of playing =)

You should never play for so long, human beings need to move, create and be active... Here you create, but too much, unperfectly, you should take rest... Too much is never good... Enjoy better, live better...

I really like and prefer your renditions of ragtime pieces. You’ve got a real feeling for them. You don’t just plow through them. I love the sound of your piano! I wonder: did you learn all these pieces from the sheet music or from listening to recordings?

I don't agree with his tempos, but he's certainly a fine pianist. Joplin said to play his stuff slowly, but as a wild guess, i'd say this was fine in Missouri, but the Harlem Stride pianist may have jazzed the stuff up quite a bit. That's purely a guess on my part.

I loved all of these, but I'd never heard the slower rag pieces before and I really liked them. My favourite was the Hungarian Rag, though. I feel sorry for your hands, though! Ouch.
I wish I wasn't tone deaf, it would be nice to be able to play an instrument.

He managed to turn Original Rags into a silly sprinting exercise, with tasteless additions, and to mangle The Entertainer into the shape of a bad joke. Unbearable both (and I am by no means a purist!!!), so I simply bailed out.

Not only do i stand absolutely stunned at your memory and piano playing skills, i also admire your hands' stamina. My forearms usually start aching a few minutes after i try playing anything fast and i have to rest them a bit. But I guess it gets better the more you play. Anyway, this is absolutely epic and i like to listen to this often, whether it is playing videogames or studying. It's so long that its replayability is almost infinite.

It's a wonderful concert, i.e. performance but no sense of this hurry, this is not a racing against stopwatch. Slower would be more entertaining with less mistakes and more according to the original ragtime classic mode of play. Nevertheless I admire your endeavour,!

Not to take away from this guy's skill, but less frenetic tempi allowing for a little more expression would have sounded much better.
Many Ragtime compositions, especially those of Joseph Lamb needed a lot of expression.
