Missy, I cannot thank you enough for telling your story! You have calmed a lot of the fear I had about getting this surgery. I am looking for a surgeon right now. I am tired of all the pills. I want it fixed. I can now move ahead with confidence! Thank you!
I haven’t had my “partial Nissen fundoplication yet, but your symptoms are so like mine, NOW, preoperatively, I felt the need to support and thank you. I hope you’re steadily improving and will get to a point where you can live a day without thinking about your health. Crazy to know how people don’t understand or even tolerate our pain and fear. At least we have each other. ESPECIALLY during a pandemic!
You’re so strong!! I could hear the fear in your voice in the first video and at the end of this video you sound like you have clarity. You’re so right about finding help when a doctor says there’s not a problem and you know better! Gerd doesn’t have enough attention in the medical field. I can’t believe you could never burp!! That’s wild! Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
Thank You!!!!! I can't tell you how helpful this ONE video has been for me to watch. I think you are really brave and giving us out here the education we seek and need!
Hi Addison! I am so glad that my video has helped you! I realized that going through this doesn't have to be a scary thing & that a TON of us are going through the same thing but don't know where to turn. I wish you luck on your journey!
Thank you for sharing your brave story!
Hi Missy! I hope you are feeling better. You are not alone! Many of us are going through similar situations and understand your pain. Please continue giving us updates. Blessings.
damn when i see got relive it make me really happy, cause i can feel all the pain and anxity u go through, i was wishing i would get my life back to normal after the surger, seeing u get ur life back im so happy thanks for the video!
Glad to see you are well - great story
You look great! Glad you’re better.
Thanks you have giving me hope with my acid reflux
Thanks for the update :) I'm having my fundoplication surgery tomorrow, gained a lot of useful tips from your video, good luck to you :)
How are you now?
Thank you. Seriously thank you
Thanks for posting this. So I had this procedure done 18 years ago in my early 20s (I’m 40 now) and In Jan of this year all of a sudden the it felt like flood gates of acid had just opened, I’ve been on a inhibitor (nexium) for about 3 years now, met with a gastric doc, immediately got referred to a surgeon, and I’ll undergo an endoscopy next Tuesday and bravo, now let me tell you, 18 years ago there was no bravo, it was instead done with a tube down your nose into your esophagus, I never made it 48 hrs because it was awful. So, the surgeon is pretty confident that the Nissan has “slipped”, probably due to the years and having two babies, but I guess the revision for me is going to be super complicated because all the scar tissue, I had many issues with the original surgery, now a reminder it was 18 years ago and it was very new back then but I had to go through like 3 dilations (to stretch it) months after the surgery because the doctor had made it too tight, I know they have safety procedures to avoid this issue now. It all really sucks, I had so many complications with it before and never thought I would be looking at this again, I’m in a small town and I guess only two doctors in the US perform revisions like what I’m looking at so I’ll be flying out to have it done (if that’s the issue). Anyhoo, your the only person so far I’ve found talking about this, thank you for that! Thank you for sharing and here’s to hoping 18 years of advancement works in my favor this time!
Christ, I just finished watching the video….maybe I shouldn’t have watched it 😂
how are u now?
Haven’t seen to any replies from Missy!
How are you feeling. I was diagnosed a year ago I feel your pain
Hope it works for good this time
I just had the same surgery one week ago today. Last night was the worst, dry heaving and OMG! Now I hurt. I’m glad that you made this video, let’s me know there is hope, thank you
Hope you're doing better
How are you feeling now?
@APRILSTEPHENS2691 Any tips to help with the dry heaving and any other awful side effect? Going to have it done & trying to prepare. Thank you!
Thank you for doing this video!!
Absolutely! I am so glad it helped you. :)
Thank you so much for this great video. I've been sitting here, hanging onto your every word because it's the first time I've heard someone with this problem really describe how things feel at various stages. So, THANK YOU so much! I suffer from Achalasia and had my Heller's Myotomy years ago but now I'm having problems swallowing again and the GERD is terrible. I don't want to stay on Prilosec forever. Too many side-effects. I wonder why my surgeon didn't do a fundoplication with my Hellers. I'm going to ask my gastro. doc. about this. You've got me getting up and going back, to ask questions and get off the PPIs. Thank you very much!
Thank you for the video. I had colon resection surgery for diverticulosis in September 2021 and then just had my hiatal hernia repair on Nov 23 2021. I'm still recovering. In July, my daughter had a stroke and I spent 45 days with her. I'm exhausted and depressed but looking forward to getting this behind me. On pureed food for two weeks. Only taking Tylenol for pain. 3 months down the road can't get here soon enough.
How are you and your daughter doing now? Blessings
Praying for you!
God bless you! You went through really, really tough times! And being so young. Thanks so much for sharing. How are you doing now?
Thanks for sharing I just had my bravo endoscopy hopefully I will get my surgery date soon
Thank you for sharing it really helped me I had the same sugery 6 days ago and you testimony has helped me greatly
Thanks for making these videos! Please keep making videos!!! I am 15 and have been dealing with GERD since I was 12. It’s been worse lately and is causing respiratory problems. I keep getting prescribed medications but with no relief. I really love your videos and how in depth they go. Thanks for sharing your story with us!!
Surgery is the best solution. Respiratory problems can make disaster in our life.
@@toms5050 surgery hardly ever fixes the problem. It usually just creates more. Diet/lifestyle change seems to be more effective.
@@kyrenrowe461
Unless it is mechanical abstraction... than diet and lifestyle may not work. if your stomach is herniated up to your throat, lifestyle and diet are not going to do much my friend:)
@@stnln2180 herniated up to your throat? What is that supposed to mean? Into your esophagus? Have you heard testimonies from people post surgery? I’ve watched a lot, and most say that they still have the same symptoms, or their initial symptoms go away, and instead new one’s come up.
Lifestyle and diet change might have an impact but most of the times people never find out because they’re under the impression that if they take ppis, antacids, or get surgery, that they can continue eating the same way they’ve eaten throughout their lives.
Thanks for your experience . helpful. You were very brave.
I can certainly understand what you had been gone throughout I also have to undergo Nissan fundoplication at the age of 22 as I have Barrett’s esophagus. God bless you
How are you doing now?
So how are you now?
Thanks for the great update. Hope you get to 100 percent soon.
Thank you, Doyle! I have been feeling great 1 year post-op!
I suffered from heartburn for over 20 years and finally spoke with the right doctors who agreed I was a candidate for the surgery. I had surgery 5.weeks ago. So far is going well and had zero pain with surgery. Still taking pantoprazole so not sure yet if heartburn stopped. Excited about not taking meds again soon since they have affected my memory and suffered chronic fatigues for a while. When I asked specialists about my deteriorated memory they always said it had nothing to do with omeprazole and fatigue either but I am the one that know my health history. Found some great info and documentary on 44% association with memory loss and long term use of omeprazole. I hope this surgery can help avoid the meds
You are so sweet. I have Achalasia a bit different than what you have. I had POEM procedure 3 months ago they cut my LES muscles so food can go down easly. But it created another problem : reflux. Now I will see a doctor for TIFF or surgeon for fandoplication. Thank you for sharing. I will share my experience once I start feel better.
Just had my surgery, Thanks for the share.
How do you feel what’s the side affect
Thanks for updating
Thank you for sharing all of your experiences. Curious how you’re doing now. I’ve been on at least one PPI since the age of 12. I am 37 now and finally at the point that my throat hurts every day from the silent reflux. I am going for a consult with a surgeon next month. Your experiences with TIF and Fundoplication are going to help me go in more prepared.
I’m so sorry you experienced it so early and hope you feel better
You are so brave and awesome for posting this for all of us suffering with Gerd. Thank You!!
Also where did you have your surgery and surgeon's name ? 🌸💕💕💕🌻🌻
Thank you, Sabrina! My surgeon is based out of Plantation, FL and his name is Dr. Abel Bello
I will be having my Hital Hernia and N.F. Redo. The last one was 8 years ago. I know the steps. I have all my meals planned already only thing I have to worry about is if they have to open me up all the way up this time. I live alone so I’m planning on going back to work at least 7 days post op. And everyone is different but I liked your video and hearing the difference on how doctors who do the surgery are different
Thank you for your video!! How are you feeling now??? What was your symptoms before surgery?
Hello, hope you don’t well , “Thank you “for sharing all this info , that’s very important for me , I hope I find a doctor that agree with me to go and get my surgery because the pills and not working.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
Hi! How are you feeling now? Thanks for making these!
Hi! It's been a little more than a year since my surgery and I am still going strong! I feel like I am able to focus more on my career and life goals without having to worry about feeling sick every day. I am truly blessed!
Thank you for sharing your story. I’m sure it’s helping so many people that are going through this because hiatal hernia is very painful to go through. I’ve been suffering with it for 12 yrs & recently it’s worse. I have to push it down & now it feels like it’s twisting. I’m on Pantoprazole & eating healthy. I can feel it fluttering like it’s going to happen, living in fear knowing that moment may happen when it it’s going to push up into my chest again. Been scared thinking of what the results may be when I have the endoscopy, if the Dr tells me to have the hernia surgery. So, I been looking it up on UA-cam & I found you. I’m so sorry that you have gone through so much pain, Especially at such a young age. I pray you continue to heal & get better. May you have a good quality life, God protect you & keep you healthy.
Please get it checked. It's solvable 👍
Hi, your video is very educative and I thank you for that. I had my hiatal hernia repair in June 22nd, 2022 that's also after suffering for more than 20yrs. Everything went well post surgery but of late I have started experiencing very bad reflux, bloating, chest pain and throat irritation that doesn't go away and severe mid-back pain. I've been back to my doctor and he prescribed sabezole for 2 weeks, but had also said something like having a repeat endoscopy to confirm if the surgery was successful. This is very stressful. Maybe any idea from your end I will appreciate. This issue is widespread not in America alone. For me I am a Kenyan.
How are you now ? it is really nice to hear your journey 🙂
Pure thing, sorry about your complicates
Would love a new update!
Thank you! I am in between TIF and golden standard myself. I want TIF to avoid holes (5?) on my chest, but at the end efficiency is what I'm after and the most important factor.
Hi Sam! Yes, if you get the normal fundoplication you will get a laparoscopic surgery with 5 small incisions... I would hardly call them "holes" haha I've gotten this surgery twice and you can hardly tell I have scars, and they are more in your belly area - my highest scar is just below my sternum and lowest scar is directly in my belly button so you can't see that one at all. I would work with your doctor to see which surgery is right for you & your lifestyle as well as the symptoms you are experiencing. If you are highly active and maybe on your belly a lot (I am a surfer and constantly on my stomach) just know that for me the TIF did not hold because of surfing. If you are nervous that the surgery won't work or will cause issues post-op, the TIF might be a better options as it is less permanent. Good luck!
@@MissyTurco there are a few new procedures now. The one that interests me is the RAP procedure. Ofc it's only for people who are good candidates, but more R&D is welcome with these upper GI problems

The Resection and Plication (RAP) procedure is a novel endoscopic option for the treatment of medication-refractory GERD.
You can't have a hiatal hernia for this operation. Have to be suited.
Thanks for this post (I felt your pain). I have had the hiatus hernia for about 3 years now and oddly enough, it started whilst I was on holiday and couldn’t eat my greasy spoon breakfast! 3 years on and I’ve had enough of being sick. How many times have you tried to eat something that you think you may get away with, burgers and fries and 2 mouthfuls in and you throw up! I’m fortunate enough to work in a private hospital and getting it done under my private health cover. The in house doctor recommended that I don’t have the surgery as it’s forcing me to keep to a healthy diet. True , but I want to lead a normal life and go on holiday! (There is also an ethical question regarding his advice). I have an exploratory endoscopy tomorrow and from that, I will get a date for my main surgery. If you are interested, I will keep you and your viewers updated on my progress. Many thanks, Chris.
Hiatus hernia which surgery good plz tell me tft or nissan
It’s 3 weeks since my last surgery. 3/13/24
My first surgery was in 2019 and it came back. This time another surgeon did it and put a mesh in. I’m still on a liquid diet. I try food and it gets stuck. They told me I could feel better but @ week 3-4 food wouldn’t go down and I’d have to go back to liquids. Water affected me too. I have an appt tomorrow and I still need pain pills. Thank you for sharing your story ♥️
Hi Missy, I am 67 and have had digestive issues since I was 10 yrs old. I am finally getting the procedure done on Dec 15th
How are you feeling?
I'm having Nissan fundoplication surgery tomorrow. Luckily, I live in the UK 🇬🇧 so I don't have to pay for it but after watching your journey I'm hoping it will be easier for me than you experienced.
How are you doing now?
Thank you for telling your story. The same thing happened to me. It took an endoscopy for them to finally find out what was wrong. I went through two pregnancies with it and at the third trimester it was absolutely unbearable. I just got the surgery though and I hope it helps. I didn’t get to stay in the hospital at all (which absolutely sucked). I was in SO MUCH PAIN (still am) and the norcos aren’t cutting it. I have trapped air too. It feels like it keeps going from my chest to my shoulders.
After the laparoscopy you would feel the effect of the CO2 gas in your stomach to your shoulders....I was recommended to have some walking so as to release the gas from the body. Hope this may help you.
@@patriciaalbiter2607 It took 3 days for the pain to get better but that gas stays for quite awhile.

Hello, 1st of all thank you very much for sharing your experiance. i hope you are still doing good after your 2nd surgery. Please could you share your current condition? Every thing is still going fine? Plz let me know. Coz i m also thinking for surgery. Thanks
Hi Missy, hope you are doing okay. What sort of foods canyon eat now and what sets you off reflux wise.
Hi Missy!I'm from South Africa my Dr told me I have hietal hernia and acid reflux my tummy is constantly in pain I'm scheduled for bioscope next week ,all the food I used to eat can't eat ,so what I would like to know is after the surgery and the recovery will I be able to eat some of the food I'm restricted from now?
Why not update after year and half? Many of us want to hear about it because we are going trough same hell as you did? Hope you are feeling great! Best wishes!
Did you ever try a low acid diet? Im trying to decide if it’s science based or not. It kinda helped me but still have symptoms.
please post an uptade!!!
So over all how do you feel now are your symptoms of gerd gone now are you able to eat and have a normal life ? I've been dealing with gerd for over 6 years im considering surgery as well
Can I ask if this was a revision or first Nissen surgery? I had my Nissen surgery 16 years ago and have been having lots and lots of nausea/acid daily and nightly, so had an endescopy test recently and it showed my surgery had unraveled..SO, more than likely I'll need a revision surgery to correct and help ease the acid/nausea issue
I am most likely having the TIF. I cannot live this way anymore. All of us that use Proton pump inhibitors or protonics etc... these meds do affect how are supplements or thyroid meds are absorbed and or any life and daily medications that are dire to us lose the effect. One thing to think about everyone. If you are taking PPI, please don't take them along with your other meds. Maybe take at night before bed as long as it isn't too late. Then take your life sustaining meds, BP, Heart, thyroid and even supplements 8 hours or more later. I pray you are doing well hun, you sure are young for this type of issue. God Bless You Too!!!
Thank you beautiful
Hi, hope you’re doing well. How are you feeling two years out now? Are you able to surf and workout without issues? Like your surfing situation my core is also a big concern for me since I need to wake to do core workouts for back pain.
I’m having surgery tomorrow.
I have struggled for years with an uncomfortable stomach, but recently I have suffered with water brash where I keep swallowing saliva and have acid reflux in spasms. Sometimes I feel ok then I have a week of feeling awful. Had lots of tests and was told I had nothing wrong. They did say I have a hiatus hernia and they now reckon it’s that and was offered surgery.
So the second surgery was a more painful experience? The surgery im possibly getting is suppose to be non invasive and a common surgery. My Esophageal Hiatel hernia is very small. Surgeon did not say name of surgery just it was non invasive. And he wants me to do bravo test next and we go from there. Wondering if the metal in the Bravo capsule has possibility to cause allergic reaction?
I am sorry for your complications! I am 3 days post OP myself was curious on how everyone else's journey is going. I will put up some videos myself as i have more energy!
Yes please do that
Hi josh how r u now
Hi Missy…I hope you get a moment to respond but before your surgery did you feel short of breath, nauseated all the time? I had a gastroscopy last week and I was told I have a ‘moderately large’ HH. I can’t walk far because of the nausea. It’s debilitating to say the least. I had all sorts of tests done but I’m sure the HH is what the problem is. The Gastoenterologist will call in about 2 weeks with samples he took. Thank you very much! 🇨🇦
Can yo please reply Missy.I have a sliding hiatial hernia and ca hardly eat and when I do my lpr flares I also have incisional hernia.I couldn't do the mammotery when they tried or the endoscopy so what could the doctor do
Thank you for sharing your experience. I have a great doctor but it’s great to hear experiences from people who have had the surgery. I’m deciding between TIF & partial fundoplication. I pray you are well.
Thank you so much! I am feeling tremendously better now. I wish you well on your journey to health and I will pray for your healing.
Hi! I'm interested in what you decide. I was supposed to get the partial fundoplication but my surgery appt had to be rescheduled ....twice! I'm just so worried about life AFTER the procedure. From what I've read, even with the partial, one can still be left with dysphagia, constant bloating, inability to vomit or belch. I'm so frustrated, trying to figure this out. Hope you are well:)
If your symptoms are bad, day and night, in all circumstances... Either go a full of 75% wrap.
Thank you! Great vid! I'm concerned that you still have to take a ppi? You still get acid? 🤔
That's the point, you shouldn't be taking them anyway because it defeats the object, and hides the real underlying cause.
I was wondering can you do a update now?
Hi, hope you are doing well. I am also struggling with this horrible condition 😞 i have a chest pain, my throat is irritated and the worst symptom is that each time I swallow it’s painful. My lower esophagus is inflamed. I am on my medication but I still experience symptoms:(( now i am under examination and considering fundoplication. I was concerned about the surgery but you experienced encourages me. Hope you see this comment because i have some questions. Did all your symptoms go away after surgery? Are you able to eat whatever you want? Your answer will be so helpful me. Thanks in advance
I had the Nissen fundoplacation and hernia repair..I had done every test possible and everything was normal which upset me because I couldn’t keep anything down and major heartburn (which I’ve had since I was young, 50 now) I was told I had chronic GERD, finally surgery..I was having a hard time with it, major complications, but then I was ok for a year or so, endoscopy was done and said everything was fine..I continue to throw up and major dry heave and food getting stuck and heartburn again..they put me on PPI right after surgery as well…I’m back to all tests again…very frustrating and so upsetting..very discouraged 😢 I said in hospital for 4 days, they nicked my zphifoid and collapsed a lung (which hurts and hard to recover from)
How r u feeling now?
Very surprised your surgery had come undone after only a year..I've read thats extremely rare..Mine might have come undone a year ago or maybe longer..No idea
Thank you so much we are one day out and scared cuz of hard to swallow and chest pain
I have a hiatal hernia and was wondering if the cause of your gastric paresis was caused by the hernia? I also have gastric paresis andam wondering if it’s being caused by my hiatal hernia possibly.
Your right my gi doc did the same he said their nothing i can do for you anymore . I changed gi specialist and re took a indoscopy said i had a hiatel hurnia and i need surgery . So shes so right change doctors if your not getting any answers.

Hey Missy. Thanks for your video. I suffer from the same problems. Could you tell me how your body is responding after surgery regarding physical activities.? I mean Can you work out, train swim or sth like that normally??
Did you have bloating side effect of nissen? I'm trying to decide between nissen or tif.
I just got my Fundolopcation surgery and my hernia removed. July 5th, 2021, so its only been 1 day and the pain is actually terrible on my behalf. Ill be in the hospital for 5 days
I'm sorry you are going through a lot of pain. Just remember that it gets better and better every day. Praise the Lord that you have 5 days in the hospital, I was sent home the day after and wasn't able to swallow water once the swelling got worse & was hoping every day that they would admit me back in the hospital so I didn't have to keep going back for fluids. Stay strong, you got this!!
How are things going now? Any issues three and a half years out?
The operation sounds pretty awful. I am on a waiting list to have this op here in Tenerife. I have been taking “stomach protection pills” for twenty years and since a bad few months when I was consistently with burning acid reflux and nothing working, I am now able to get relief using one or two Nexium a day. The doctor days that if I can cope with Nexium and now having less reflux and problems with my hernia it is better not to have the operation. However I am still on the list to go ahead with it. I’ve had this problem for getting on for 20 years and don’t really want to have to take two pills of Nexium every day for the rest of my life! Some days it doesn’t prevent burping and acid pain. I don’t know whether to cancel the operation or not. What advice would you give? Should I go ahead with the surgery?
