have not pulled the trigger but have spent every night looking at RG351 news mostly from your channel..more focused on this than PS5 news 😄😄 great content from a newbie retro fan from Indonesia
What I like about this whole retro thing is that theoretically, the games are the same, and the devices will only just get better and better. I ordered mine (purple) and I’m waiting on it to arrive. And yes! This channel will be my manual! Thank you so much and Keep up the good work!! Greetings from a fellow 80’s child
Thanks for visiting! And yeah, it's awesome to see how much these systems improve over time. Excited to think about how things will look in a couple years!
I really enjoy your vids. I was going to buy an old Gameboy Advance but these emulators are great. I just want to be able to play around with old games from my childhood. Thanks!
Wow, kind of wild to stumble across this comment from you at the beginning of your journey with retro handhelds! I've been watching a bunch of your videos lately.
I like how in depth this review is, so much that even though I've heard from several sources that the best retro handheld for 2020 is Retroid Pocket 2, I choose to believe your review.
I'm watching this video again 3 years later and it amazes me how far Russ has come. It's also funny to me to hear him say this is the best device you can get at the time, and then I compare it to the Odin 2 today. We've come a long way lol
This is the most in-depth review of this console I have seen. Nice work and a fantastic website which will be very helpful when I finally get my hands on this console and properly configure the emulators. Hopefully, we will see a similar review for the smaller RG280V soon. Thanks again!
Thank you for all the guides and for not giving up on the device. You cannot imagine how useful they have been to uncover all the potential of it. So much so that I get back to each guide to validate my onw tweaks and modifications. I learned a lot and found as enjoyable to learn how to configure my unit as playing games with it. Thanks and cheers.
These videos are incredible, I've been binging them for the last 2 days. I wanna tinker with all of the systems you've talked about, but I decided to start with the powkiddy v90 and I'll work my way up the price points, and see what I can squeeze outta the lower end ones. Will make fun gifts for the kids at the very least :D
I love your reviews, they are incredibly detailed and thorough. Unlike folks like ETA Prime and Taki Udon who have agendas in their reviews, always skirting over the weaknesses, you go through all of the good and all of the bad. You should be the gold standard, bravo.
I appreciate that! Their videos tend to be shorter and so I think that they don't get the time to really dive into each device. Especially ETA, that dude puts out a new video like every 12 hours! I started out trying to do quick videos but I soon learned that I shouldn't focus on the length and just cover all the things I would want to know :)
Have owned a RG351m for ab 6 months give or take thanks to your vids. Is def a solid system. Seriously I could beat somebody to death with this thing XD But seriously I am glad your doing what you do here and I look forward to new content from this channel. I have had to modify my Dpad a bit bc I found I was not able to do diagonals at all bc the parts of the Dpad that make contact with the membrane didnt push the membrane down enough. Without pressing really hard at least. Now that I did my mod it works flawless! Thanks for introducing me to these awesome devices!
@@flowfactoryinc07 The rg351 is a bit more powerful but it has a screen with aspect ratio of 3:2 instead of 4:3. It also had problems with its wifi and it was removed.

Russ - Thank you for another great, honest, and comprehensive video. Your detailed and clear guides allow retro gamers to unlock and fully maximize the capability of these devices, and customize them as well, taking the handheld gaming experience from pretty good to truly excellent. I am in complete alignment with your assessment of the RG351P. I'm excited to see the upcoming release of the RG351M from Anbernic, and hope they can squeeze in some updates to address some of the drawbacks of the RG351P (by increasing resolution, restoring internal WiFi, etc). It would be awesome if Anbernic sent you an early model for review. Thanks again for your awesome content.
Thx dude, been enjoying my purple 351 for a couple of days now and used your tweaks and settings. It helps me get a better understanding of Retroarch and how to get the most out of each system, and all that on one of the most convenient handhelds ever
I've really fallen in love with RetroArch over the past month or so. A lot of people like to badmouth it but I'm finding it's very powerful and I love how universal it is!
Important note for those who want to play Nintendo DS games on this device: the functionality in the emulator (Drastic) to save game progress does not work!!! So you have to start a new game every time
I actually use a 2ds xl for an emulation device. Cost £99 brand new 6 months ago. Runs all the 16 bit stuff no problem. Plus natively compatible with ds and game boy advance games. And has all the big n64 games ported to it anyway your ocarina of times and your major as masks. All work perfectly. I'd argue the 2ds xl is the best device at this price point depending on what your after. I have mine hacked so all the 3ds and ds games are cost free too for. Got several thousand games on it currently. Can't go wrong honestly.
Hey amazing content really i love this channel. Used your guide to configure my rg351p firmware and handheld last night and its perfect. Honestly thanks mate amazing. Only one thing I'd like to mention that no reviewer mentions, i predominantly play retro sports games (I know who does?!?!) And every reviewer for these handhelds say that 'ps1 works flawlessly'. I dont see this with some sports games. F1 1999, F1 2000, tiger Woods Pga tour 2 don't work at all. The newer madden games are unplayable due to the draw distance, the controls don't input in ncaa football 2000....there seems to be emulation issues in sports games more than any other genre. Just wanted to mention as the sports genre gets very little love from reviewers really and I love reliving these games on a handheld. Your videos are so clear and informative and entertaining too. My go to channel, thank you!!! 😊😊
Hi Michael, thanks for bringing it to my attention. You're right, I don't play many sports games other than Tecmo Super Bowl, NBA Jam, and Mutant League Football, so I've never experienced that problem!

I'm so glad for your videos. I bought one of these because for me I am getting more entertainment out of this vs the Nintendo switch for only a third of the price
Great video! Ordered my 351P a couple of days ago. It was a toss up between this and the 350M but after seeing your video about how you can tweak the screen to improve it I figured I can live with it.
I've found that nothing can beat a phone with a decent snapdragon soc + a kishi...and yet I cant stop watching these damn handheld videos and getting tempted.
I think this is my 100th time I watched this video. I really want this device because of this in-depth review. I'm saving up money to buy this on my birthday.
Bought saturday from Amazon Italy. It'll arrive wednesday. I already own an RG 350 and i had a little concern regarding change, to pass to the new model, because of the very low psp quality emulation and the difficult screen size adjustment. But now, thank to your video guides, the time is right to buy One and play to another level. I'm sorry that I can't partecipate to the giveaway, but I can understand that could be expensive to ship out of USA. Thank you man!
And once again you shake my purchase decisions with your reviews.. And the Metroid gameplay almost made me give in ngl haha But I still think they could have put a better screen on the device, I'm going to pass this version just because I think the next generation will be perfect. The most dreaded words to overseas viewers "US residents only" ;-;
Haha, I am going to expand future giveaways to international viewers thanks to everyone's feedback. But since international shipping is so expensive from Hawaii, I will likely ask international winners to help pay the shipping cost. That GBA performance is just beautiful, huh?
If this just had a 720x480 screen instead of 480x360, it would be the perfect display for all most systems including GBA. I hope a future revision does.
I just ordered one, really hope to run Dosbox/ Raptor / JazzJackrabbit flawlessly, but Ill try the rest as well :) Im sure i will be visiting your channel and guides frequently :)
I really like you videos and guides for the RG351P! Would it be posible for you to release a image file for the device with all your settings already applied?
Best sub $100 retro console my ass! I was as happy as any of you about this handheld but to be honest I'm not impressed at all. I have had it for a few weeks now and comparing it with my RK2020 I feel like it doesn't really stand up in the power department yet they're the exact same equipment. I don't know what it is, the picture just doesn't look as clean as my RK2020 and I feel the RK2020 runs the games a lot better. With that said, where the RG351P does shine is it's potential. It's the only handheld with perpendicular joysticks which is infinitely better than having them staggered like the Switch and it has the same hardware as the RK2020 so the RG351P should be able to do the exact same things. Right now though I just don't think it's worth it.
I think a lot of the RK2020's performance factors come from the advantage other OGA clones get from being able to natively run supported software, unlike the RG351P. I do think that as new OS images are written, we'll be able to take advantage of its benefits, including better gameplay and the ability to use 64-bit emulators. I'm particularly excited about 351ELEC (a new EmuELEC fork) and ArkOS, which will have a Windows/Mac-friendly file system and full RetroArch support (i.e. online core updates). Overall, I think the hardware on this device will drive more and more people to want to develop and support it.
Great video, I feel more like I've made the right choice now ordering the rg351👍, eventually there will prob be summit better available, but I think I should enjoy it/keep it a good 12 months.
Nitendo ds works perfectly on mine. I didnt have any graphical issues or slowdowns on any game and even can upscale some Games to 2x resolution. Also 80% of N64 are playable too. The System which struggle the Most is Dreamcast and PSP. But even PSP is also improved with a Lot of updates and run much better now. ScummVM, virutal Box, C64 and Amiga also Runs almost every Game without Problems. The only Problems with C64 Games is it's very difficult to play without a Keyboard. So you will Not enjoy C64 Games on this device. Pico8 have some graphical issues with some Games.
anmbernic in 2021 are the brand to watch, if they can get a pocket sized emulator that smoothly runs ps2 games, they will be the champions of emulators
I just bought one of these to play while recovering from shoulder surgery (I’m having surgery next week, shoulder arthroscopy), and to maybe tinker with. I’d love to have an upgrade that can better play N64 games, and maybe even the notoriously difficult to emulate, the PS2. I know this system isn’t going to replace my NN3DS, or N2DS (which I want to install Homebrew on). After seeing your video on it, I would like to install ArkOS, and updated emulators. For future versions, like a 2021 version, I’d like to see a higher resolution screen, better processor, GPU, RAM, and onboard wireless such as WiFi and Bluetooth. Also, would it be possible to do a screen swap between the 350M and 351P?
There is a guide out to solder a WIFI module in that looks pretty simple. Even thought they sell a version with WIFI now. Thanks for the videos, looking forward to checking out some more.
Just got a RG351 the other day and so far your videos have been very useful. I have a couple of things I am not keen on though, the rumble is a joke, it's just a buzzing sound, there is no rumble to speak of. Also the supplied memory card is useless, trying to read and write any large amount of files just causes an error, in the end I just used a Samsung 32GB card I had already and all is fine. It would be nice if they made a RG351M, metal version with the same resolution screen as the RG350M, I would buy the RG351 over again of such a one was released.
I'm just about certain that an RG351M is on the horizon. I agree that the rumble is a bit of a disappointment, it really only works on PS1 and it's very faint. Definitely toss that included SD card, I agree it's junk! At least Retroid sends SanDisks with their devices :)
Mame games can't be benchmarked by "neogeo" or cps-1/2. They play well on almost any system.. Try playing more demanding games. Here's an example: Golden Axe the duel, cotton 2... (There's many more)
Thanks for telling the truth! I think the same as you. RG351P is the best retro console of 2020 !! The Emuelec system is GREAT! and putting roms is very simple! Many are rating the RG351p vs RetroidPocket 2 badly, but all reviews are just "first impressions" (I have both consoles) Retroid Pocket 2 is a host of problems and errors. The "Android 6" interface is horrible, you must buy the emulators to improve the emulation, the Retroid App type "Pandora" is horrible, the buttons unconfigure all games and in fighting games it is a nightmare, the "free" store is a nightmare with changed names and modified Roms. Is slow. And the Jostick are poorly built, the buttons look like toys. etc. By the way.. 4:47 Also works Naomi and Atomiswave!! :D not all games work but I was finally able to get a game that looks like MetalSlug to work: "Dolphin Blue" tip: 13:54 You can quickly get to the letter you are looking for if you press "select" and there is an option to go to the letter you want quickly :D I'm sad with my console because I didn't have a screen protector and because of my shield I ended up ruining it and scratching it horribly. :( But functional :(
Thanks for this nice review ! What do you think about the Odroid Go Advance Black Edition ? Not sure which one of the two I should buy. Is the OGA-BE the better choice if I don´t really need the right analog stick ? How about the hardware/screen comparsion ? Any help in the right direction would be nice :) Great video and you got another subscriber more :)
Really like your channel, very impressed with the depth of your content and the attention to detail you being to your videos. Out of curiosity what core is Gba running on the rg351p? Mgba?
@@RetroGameCorps that's awesome. I always like mgba for gba. This might be a stretch but is runahead or the latency adjustments supported on this build of RA. Obviously it's very cpu intensive but nonetheless I'm still curious.
I own both the Retroid Pocket 2 and the RG351p and vastly prefer the RP2. It all just comes down to the screen, found the resolution/aspect ratio to be way more of an issue than I expected it to be. It looks so much worse in person than it does on video. You see hints of it on a few of the brighter games in this video, it's almost like the "screen door" effect you get from a low end VR headset.
I definitely agree that the RP2 screen is superior (I like the RG350M screen even more than both of these devices). But I think for me the feel of it in the hand and the user interface + my screen configurations made it a nice balance despite the inferior screen.
Thanks for the comments! The intro music is from a very talented chiptunes artist named Bit Shifter. Here is the album the song is sampled from: bit-shifter.bandcamp.com/album/information-chase
I appreciate the honest, detailed opinions on this. It's there any way we can get the best of both worlds with mario64 since the time you posted this video? Any better cores to choose?
Hi, at this time there isn't an ideal N64 solution for this device. I keep starting up an N64 optimization guide but the gains just aren't there yet. SM64 plays decently, but it's still not optimal.

Thanks for your in-depth review, now I'm getting an RG351P!
Greetings from Malaysia =)
Enjoy! Glad I could help!
It's still my favorite handheld in my entire collection
If this just had a 720x480 screen instead of 480x360, it would be the perfect display for all most systems including GBA. I hope a future revision does.
Very helpfull ! Wanted something for my 10y old son and you definitely helped me a lot. Thanks !
Glad I could help!
Another great video 👍 I’ve got the RG280M coming for Christmas and I have a new 3DS so I’m more than happy on the portable side 😁
So glad we now have universal integer scaling so there aren't rectangular pixels anymore on 4:3 games
Great review! I own an original RG350 and love it, but this is very tempting as an upgrade. Anyway, awesome job - subbed :)
I just ordered one, really hope to run Dosbox/ Raptor / JazzJackrabbit flawlessly, but Ill try the rest as well :)
Im sure i will be visiting your channel and guides frequently :)
Well I’m sold. Thanks for the review!
Glad I could help!
Really nice video. Thanks a lot for sharing all this knowledge with us. I allows us to get the most out from our consoles!!
I am really consider to buy my first handheld.
I bought my first handheld xD
I was between this one and the retroid pocket 2, I appriciate this video, now I have no more doubts. The RG351 is the one for me. =)
Happy to have helped steer you in one direction or the other! :)
Really awesome review, just ordered one ;)
Nice! Alpha 3 is one of the games I wanted to run when I get one of these!
I can't find the button to like this video 10 times
I watch your videos all day at work you’re awesome 👾✅👍🏽
Thank you!
WOOHOO! Just in time for Christmas. This will be going to my daughter. Thanks for the giveaway! Email sent
Congrats, man!
Congratulations mate!!! Great present or what!!!!
I really like you videos and guides for the RG351P!
Would it be posible for you to release a image file for the device with all your settings already applied?
Looking forward to the other Dooms Mods Guide :)
Great review. I love it!
I'm specifically talking about PSP and Dreamcast in terms of games running well on RK2020
I think 12 months is an easy bet -- we'll see what the future holds, but for now, this device brings me a large amount of joy for only $95 :)
If you were to compare the RG351V and the RG351P, which one is better, because both play the exact same games. And I really liked your video.
Also, would it be possible to do a screen swap between the 350M and 351P?
added my entry to the givaway. fingers are crossed! :) And good luck to everyone else who added their own entry :D
There is a guide out to solder a WIFI module in that looks pretty simple. Even thought they sell a version with WIFI now. Thanks for the videos, looking forward to checking out some more.
Fabulous and informative video. Thumbs up!
I ended up buying this today due to your review
(There's many more)
That psp sounds when your moving gives me flashback to playing music on the psp
Fantastic review
Thank you! Cheers!
Very great review!
Thanks for telling the truth! I think the same as you.
RG351P is the best retro console of 2020 !!
The Emuelec system is GREAT! and putting roms is very simple!
Many are rating the RG351p vs RetroidPocket 2 badly, but all reviews are just "first impressions" (I have both consoles)
Retroid Pocket 2 is a host of problems and errors.
:D not all games work but I was finally able to get a game that looks like MetalSlug to work: "Dolphin Blue"
tip: 13:54 You can quickly get to the letter you are looking for if you press "select" and there is an option to go to the letter you want quickly :D
I'm sad with my console because I didn't have a screen protector and because of my shield I ended up ruining it and scratching it horribly. :( But functional :(
Love it so far enjoying the ArkOS
another excellent video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for testing KI
I just got this can’t wait for it to come think it’s an upgrade over the retroid pocket 2
Mgba?
Hi Robert, the default RA GBA core is mGBA, but gpSP, VBA Next, and VBA-M are all available cores in the stock firmware as well.
But I think for me the feel of it in the hand and the user interface + my screen configurations made it a nice balance despite the inferior screen.
you have a really nice voice. love your videos. the intro music from your videos, is that from a game or did u make it yourself, it is great!
