I don't know why this was suggested to me, but i can feel an addiction brewing
Exactly what’s happening to me
now you only have to check out custom mechanical keyboards and then you can start living on the street lol
@@PinePizza nah fam I printed my own
same! i honestly wanna pirate so many games but i’m not sure where to start
@@squiddyft.insecurities3549 if you get one of these loaded with a 128gb card, it will usually have full libraries of all 8/16 bit era, along with a lot of main ones from 32 bit era.
Not only is your channel very informative, but your style and presentation is also very mature and pleasant. It's a big reason I finally decided to order a 351m, because you presented it in such a good way.
I got a 351m for the same reasons! This channel does such a great job talking about these devices!
Happy to be of service!

Hey, can anyone help me out pls...? basically One day I was at a store and decided that I needed a retro handheld device but after I spent a couple days researching which one I should buy I stumbled across this thing called "Razer Kishi" and basically that thing just connects to your phone and you can play all the games on your phone like a handheld device, since it costs as much as the retro devices themselves I figured that my phone can run any games I can ever wish. Is there any reason to get a retro handheld?
God I’m so thankful for your channel. It’s like taking a free online course about using these handhelds and it teaches me how to use/understand them in such an informative, straightforward, and practical way. Plus you also have a written guides for most of the handhelds, so someone like me who knew nothing about cfw, or partitions, or mods, could easily just jump right into this community and find the best way to enjoy these handhelds. The videos have such a friendly vibe to them that I recommend to all my friends to watch your videos first when buying a handheld you’ve reviewed. Thanks a million for all your videos!
Happy to be of help! That's exactly what I was hoping to do -- answer all the questions I had when first starting out :)
I'm up to three of these things now, started with an RG-350, then an RG-280v, and now I have an RG-350p and plan to sell the original. I freaking love these things, they're like the stuff I'd dream of as a kid!
Planning to get a RG351MP and a Steamdeck to cover basically all of my portable needs, RG351MP 8s a perfect size to toss in a pocket to take to work or anywhere else, and the Steamdeck anytime I want more power and newer games.
The options these days are awesome
The PowKitty A-19 has a WiFi chip and a retro game market which is TOTALLY ILLEGAL” lmfao the way you said that cracked me up
O_O PowKitty is a way better name than PowKiddy!!! IMO they should call themselves PowKitty in the future!!!
@@Toobielove This cat can only agree.
How is it any more illegal than downloading roms on your computer and manually putting them into your device
@@darkblade3897 tbh it isnt, it was a joke, and if you really wanna be a little angel, then dump your own games off of the carts and discs you have, but noone does that.
@@Darloyman Oh, I didn't get the joke. And you sound dumb with the little angel nonsense. I pirate everything
I’ve watched dozens of your videos over the past weeks and decided to try out the RG300. I think the vertical form factor will tickle my nostalgia and I don’t plan to do anything more than 16 bit. The high praise from your wife helped. Thanks for the work you’ve done!
This channel and this channel alone has been responsible for giving me confidence into investing in retro handhelds. I've always been into Emulation since way back in the late 1990's on PC, but I recently picked up an Anbernic RG351V and am totally in love with the machine.
Whenever I need advice and general information on the modern emulation scene, I instantly come to this channel alone. You've done some amazing and exemplary work not only in informing, but also in making it entertaining to watch - all with succint, clear communication.
Kudos.
Thank you so much, happy to be of service!
Oh look... another great video from Russ that always gets me to watch from start to finish! I knew his fav would be the 351P and it might be mine as well. I really do enjoy the form factor of the V though for things like playing in bed or laying down on the couch, as the screen is a bit higher if you rest it on your chest. Thanks for another high quality guide for all the newcomers to the retro scene, this will help them a lot.
The best retro handheld review I've seen. Thanks for the great work.
Its a culture shock seeing this: im so used to not being able to play these games because I dont have a nes, snes, n64, psp, or gameboy and ive always wanted to have them! The fact that the games are free and some of these are under 100 really excite me. This devices also all look cool! Im so excited to follow this community and channel!
Hi, I know I'm late, but the games are NOT free; you can get them for free, but it is completely illegal. Your ISP can cut out your internet service for downloading these games illegally, and they will force you to pay a fine to have it turned back on. Law enforcement can also get involved, but this does practically never happen as they have better things to be doing.
It is certainly illegal to *share* copies of and copyrighted ROM. However using an emulator definitely is not illegal.
No one’s been sued or arrested for playing or owning ROMs; only for distributing them.
@@conaldeugenepeterson2147 You are correct; using an emulator to play roms that have been obtained in legitimate ways is perfectly fine and legal. However, the OP was saying that ‘all the games are free’, which is was I was talking about in my reply, as that would be piracy. Downloading media, including games, illegitimately is illegal, as well as distributing them.
@@GreenIcing1 yes it is not legal but in the same but I would say..how cares? Nintendo is as an example a company that is always trying to stop people from making emulators and rims for there old systems but at the same time.. there is no legal way to play so many of there old classic GBA and GB games and not gonna lie that kinda pisses me off! And all I wanted to say was yeah your totally right with what you said but I will repeat myself.. how cares that it isn’t legal if there is no other way to play there games on a portable advice?
This is one of my favorite videos in your channel. I hope you can make a new version of it from time to time to accommodate the new devices on the market
Found your channel a couple of months back. Was so helpful to have all the research done and presented in an easily digestible and fun way! Picked up an RG351P over a month ago and LOVE it!! Thanks again!!
All of the PS1 games I've tried have worked without issue. N64 games are hit and miss though.
I was literally just looking for one of these videos going over retro handheld and BOOM, here it is! Thanks RGC!!
Very serendipitous!
these anbernic things are seriously worth it. im done hacking systems just to get half working emulation. i threw out a psvita because the emulation sux no matter what i do.
And once you get your machine, RGC has literally EVERYTHING you need to know about it. He's got a website with written guides and everything. He is THE guy for this stuff, full stop.
@@XANAX-Pilled thanks Tyler!
34k subscribers in 8 months wow, and well deserved!
Just started looking at these today for my son for Christmas. Thank you so your video was very helpful!
I am in love with my RG351M. Thanks for your help to make a clean setup with the better emulec and just all your guidance in general. We appreciate you!!!
What firmware are you using? I love my OGA with Batocera
This is a perfect introduction to what's currently available. Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent video as usual Russ you helped me to decide which one to buy. Going with the 351v for the screen since I plan to use it mostly for PS1 RPG’s and SNES
Thank you, thank you for this video!!!! I wasn't sure if to even consider buying this, because of how many there were to choose and configure. But now I know you listen, and answer my questions. I decided to get the 351p, it just looks easier to navigate, better control's and lighter weight. Also smaller than the 351v. Thanks again!!!!!!!
You got a new sub. I’ve been “looking” into getting a handheld for probably a couple years now, ever since I started watching ETA Prime videos. I don’t know why I’ve never pulled the trigger, but this was a great video that taught me I can just go to Amazon and give one of these things a spin. Looking forward to scrubbing through the rest of your content.
Happy to see the handheld scene is still alive and well.
Love my rg280v . I've been waiting ages for emulator devices to become good and been telling loads of people. Big thanks to you and retro dodo for making my childhood dream come true for all my favourite 16 bit games on one device. Both my son and my wife want one now .
Glad I could help!
Fantastic video! I was thinking about purchasing a retro handheld device recently, but was overwhelmed by the options. I appreciate the succinct explanation on the pros and cons of each device to make it more digestible. Thank you! 😊
Thank you so much for this video. I can't believe I didn't find it sooner. I am glad I found it before I many any purchases.
i really like your channel, your videos are very informative and mature. I ordered a v90 last week, im hyped to play some hidden jams on that badboy
The V90 is a great little piece of tech!
I've found myself wanting to play older titles, but smartphone emulation just wasn't cutting it for me. It just doesn't feel right tapping a flat screen to press buttons haha. And my actual GBA systems felt pretty limiting and each model had tradeoffs that I didn't like. The SP has backlighting and a rechargeable battery, but no headphone jack. And the original model has a headphone jack, but no rechargeable battery and no backlight! So I discovered alot of emulation handhelds and was pretty lost trying to figure out which ones were good quality. Thankfully this video exists! Both detailed and informative. Thank you very much!
Did you ever try a bluetooth controller with a phone clip? I'm about to go that route and it's hopefully gonna be dirt cheap.
@@BloodOfTartaros Yeah I have now that I think about it. It was actually pretty good.
I've been researching these so much I'm so thankful for your channel
Thanks for this. The Anbernic devices just started popping up on my feed and was great to run into your channel and see how these devices stack up.
The 351P is a quality handheld. Good video again Russ.
Thanks Jason!
Very nice video! Thanks bro! 🙂 You have created a very nice general overview, which is great. 👋👍
Thanks for the support!
Thank you! Your video helped me to make a decision. I went with rg351v for the ps1 experience and the 4:3 aspect ratio. Great content!
Thanks for this video, with so many devices that have come out in the past year, its very confusing for a consumer to decide on which to buy. This video is a very good summarization of these devices.
Good stuff, can you include if handhelds have a standby/sleep mode? It really helps when you dont have to shut down the whole system and start over every time you take it out of your pocket
Anbernic devices have standby mode. Just press the off button. Hold off button for longer for a full shut down but you should probably only do that manually from menu.
Also you have Save States on each emulator so you can save at any moment (even if it's not allowed in the game) outside of the game on the emulator and you can resume from there whenever you want even if you turn off the device, it makes everything so much easier....
Nicely done. Just my advice for anyone who wants to start this hobby/obsession, get yourself a good and decent Bluetooth controller and hook it up with your pc. They're tons of emulator that you can download and try for yourself. Your phone is more can capable of running those games and it performs better than most of the dedicated handhelds here. It's a very low entry cost to this hobby and you might be more satisfied with it than purchasing a standalone handheld console.
Thanks. Amazing presentation. Just what I needed. I come from the Odroid SBCs background and knew there were better options out there, but was completely lost on where to start. Perfect video for my needs.
Just ordered my handheld just now thanks mate!!
Russ over here becoming a legend. 👑
Am I going insane? I love the buttons on the retroid pocket 2 lol it feels exactly like my 3ds/switch/psvita.
I also like them. Actually, I had a RG350 before buying the RP2 and, apart from the right analog stick (that sucks), I think every other button and the left analog stick are way better than the RG350 ones
Yep, I like the short travel and positive tactile feedback (clickiness) of the RP2 buttons. The long throw and mushy feedback of the RG351P buttons isn’t as natural for me; feels like they take more effort to activate, and my timing is slightly off. That said, I can adapt to either style after a few minutes, and I haven’t used either long enough to judge comfort during extended play.
Short version: no, you’re not going crazy! 😂
I think it's very subjective. Also, 35+ years of thinking that the NES gamepad is *the* gamepad has probably rewired my brain in certain ways :)
@@RetroGameCorps I'm the same way just with the SNES and gameboy. That mushiness is a way bigger factor than I thought. Started with RP2 and just couldn't fall in love with it then I got a 351P. Been playing it SO much more
Hey Russ, thanks for this. I wanted to get into handheld gaming but couldn't justify pulling the trigger on something like a Switch for the $. Stumbled on the idea of retro handhelds, found your channel, and loved your detailed vids.
Just ordered my RG351P and happy to support you via your affil link :). Looking forward to getting it and setting it up following your guide!
Keep up the awesome work.
I started with a Powkiddy V90 and want to move up so this is such a great help!
“Barkley Shut Up and Jam” lmfao
I have no idea why it was even on my device, but I thought I would roll with it :)
@@RetroGameCorps I got it for my birthday in 1996 haha. It's actually quite fun to play, and the music is catchy. I consider it to be the spiritual father of NBA Street.
@@gvanderlee2703 that is amazing. I’ve never played a minute of it in my life, but now I want to check it out.
@@RetroGameCorps they also have many characters to select from. I always chose the guy with the Mohawk and Sir Charles lol. 2 player mode this game should be a lot of fun, even today. It's quite fast paced.
Sorry, just noticed that there were crazy basketball games before this one, so it cannot be the spiritual father of NBA Street :(
Nintendo bailing out of the dedicated handheld market was really, a blessing. Lol. Room for these to flourish
Excellent video. No BS, very informative, and clearly presented!
I really appreciate this video because I'm in the market for a handheld right now.
I hope you get more subscribers because you're really good at this. I really appreciated how you would put the simple stats to each system that you had up on the screen at the time you were talking about them. Cuz a lot of people will just talk about them and I can't remember what I'm looking at lol
Boughr 351v this really hypes me up. The shipping is sooo long
How do you feel about waiting for systems using new chips? I would love to know if it’s a good idea to wait and also any news on these new rumored systems.
You’ll be waiting a long time because there’s always a better one on the way
@@brettleist7563 YEah, but there's always a peak. The RG351P/V are basically the peak of this era and chip, in terms of form factor and quality, and the community has really pushed the software hard too. So right now this is the best time to jump on this while the next era iterates and finds its groove.
Unless there is a significant jump in production quality or power, there's not much reason to wait. Yes, it will come, but it'll be shaky for a while. The GPD might be good too, but it's always been pretty pricy.
Thank you so much for doing this video. This is a nice walk through to enter the world of portable retro gaming. Keep doing this.
Thank you so much for this video. I can finally decide which one to pick 😄
I just started being interested in this and thanks for posting these since I'm on a budget tried to save for a switch but I think I can get my money's worth on these devices are there also any other budget devices that are decent as well? Either way thank you for the video I subscribed for almost month now
I suggest phone emulation, look into it before you do any of this
Nice video. I'm always looking for the best one to play PSP or PS1 games, with possible android mod, under $100. I may have to run thru these again later.
Why not PS Vita tho?

Great video! Very helpful. This is a gaming world I wasn’t even aware of 2 weeks ago.
I was very focused on the Retroid 2, but it seems the repeated theme I keep hearing is “a lot of potential, crappy buttons, joysticks”. Liking the Anbernic stuff now.

You're the best, Russ. BTW, everybody: the Retroid Pocket 2 D pad DOES hurt...me, at least. I have one, and it's more powerful than an RG351P, but I've barely played my Retroid. I WILL use it for more demanding games, ONE day.
I have to second this big time. I don’t use it much because of that.. i keep telling myself ONE day I’ll use it for something like paper Mario 🤣 it’s been more than half a year. Lol

Awesome video. I've been experimenting with cellphones + gyroscopic controllers and found that the lg g8x thinq paired with the gamesir x2 controller is way too good, you get an amazing library from retro to ps2 and 3ds, but no matter all that goodness, if I leave my home that rg351p customized with my music playlist is always coming with me. It never stays behind. It's one of the best to play on the go.
Same to me,i have rog 5 that comes with wireless retractable controller it can emulate from nes to switch emu but rg351p still come in handy when play gba or ps1 on office or public space, now my phone just for social media and watch youtube
Great review and a huge "thank you" for the simple s30 firmware.
It was informative and I did enjoy it! Thanks bud! Great video!
I've been using PSPGo as my portable retro device for more than 6 yrs now and I can't find a reason to replace it with these devices. Native support of PSP and PS1 games is hard to beat.
The PocketGo 1 is a good cheap handheld.
Great video and I love chicken! After watching a heap of your videos you've convinced me to get the RG351P
Thank you for this.. I know what i'm getting my nephew this Christmas.. something for me too
Nice, you know I was just thinking that all these new emulation handhelds are cool but too expensive, it's awesome to see a video comparing devices under $200 with emphasis on value rather than raw potential with cost not being considered.
We gotta get you a PG1 for completions sake.
I actually had one when they first came out, and gave it to my brother because I didn't like it :)

Great guide! It's great for comparison's sake to have every device shown off in one easy video. I got an S30 on its way in the mail - the SNES controller form factor holds too much power over me haha. Plus I wanted a lower-end device to tide me over til Anbernic finally releases a product that checks all the boxes for me (Retroid Pocket 2-style L2/R2 placement, dual analog sticks and 4:3 in a landscape shell)
I didn’t know anything about this devices before one week then youtube recommended your channel and after watching like 99 videos from your channel I bought retroid pocket 2+ and it will be the first simulator i try it

Thank you SO much for this.
Very to the point, summarized, with highlights of what they are.
Been wanting a device like these for ages and I didn't even know PS1/N64/PSP could be emulated (I’m still stuck thinking GBA is too powerful in my mind and that only android has been able to do it because it has the required specs for it) but seeing that even Android games can be emulated in some of these, it’s mindblowing!
Thank you for this! Seriously!
