The orange low pressure sodium (SOX) lights we used to have in the UK (before they started replacing them all with LEDs) were best. Minimum glare and a tone of light very similar to the glow that our eyes got used to from using camp fires to see at night for thousands of years. And now all I get is headaches if I drive around too much at night.

Yes unfortunately my local council recently replaced the LPS light with those horrid LED lights and they are nowhere near as good. Neighbors have also complained about difficulty sleeping as a result. Wildlife experts are also concerned that they are harming nocturnal animals. I call LED streetlights the new asbestos. In the 50s we thought asbestos was wonderful so versatile and fireproof, we now know better. Just now councils think LED street lights are wonderful so energy efficient and low maintenance. I predict when all the nocturnal animals are dead/ill and people are getting health problems from chronic sleep disruption we will realize LED streetlights were a really bad idea.
The city i live in here in Norway replaced all the good old ones with bright intensive white LED's, they're fucking awful, you can just imagine how bad it is when you got snow on the ground that reflects all that light and scatters it all over the place, we never see the beautiful night skies anymore, it's like a white dome covering the sky, it makes transitions from a lit place to a none lit place when you're driving a pain, because your eyes need to adjust, this makes driving somewhat more risky since you can't see properly, we had to install double layer of fold down curtains to block the street lights so we can actually sleep at night, and as someone has mentioned these actually pulse at a high frequency making you feel ill if you surround yourself with them for a longer period of time, i'm sensitive to these things, i hate these lights so much, get rid of them
We have the same problem in Jeddah, KSA. They replaced those good old yellow street lights with white LED lights. Headaches apart, I don't even enjoy going out. Feels like I have phobia of. LED lights.
What did you do? I broke one, neighbors called and got it fixed, so I broke it again. But they have an even brighter one in their driveway. My only solution is to move I feel.

I have an HPS bucket light thats is the same kind used for city streetlights in alleyways. I paid $10 for it at the thrift store. hey also had bulbs for it for $1/pc. so I go a few. My electric bill only went up $1.25 after installing it. The bullshit about LED "Saving energy" is absolute crap. It just ensures they can keep getting paid more and more money from loans and grants to replace this garbage every 2-3 years when the LED's burn out and ensure their workers collect their pension funds.
These stupid lights DESTROYED my neighborhood, i fell like i am under a 24/7 police spotlight. My quiet suburb had such a warm charming glow at night, now it feels like a prison
Way back in the late 1800s, they used Carbon Arc Lamps. But since the light was too intense to use on street level or in a house, they made Moon Towers which were 3 times higher than regular street lamps. Perhaps they should bring back Moon Towers and put LEDs in them.
the L.E.D. streetlights the new led streetlight head fixtures are very very very small and you can't see it from 10 feet away and you can't tell that it is on or off but with the sodium streetlight head fixtures give off a old orange and a bright yellow urine glow that you could see from many blocks away and it has a focusing glow for people to see.
I wish all LED lights were obsolete. They ruin the night sky (you cannot even see stars in a city anymore), they blind you when driving from oncoming cars and they even change the colour of items, so you're unsure of the correct colour (for people who rely on colour design). I curse whoever invented LEDs. They are just awful.
I think many places do it on purpose now. Buildings, airports, streets, schools, etc. leds are bright even when they are yellow but white is even worse. Its all about the money game at this point even if its at everyone else’s expense.
Actually i have a solution to make any white led street light go orange. You just take some orange clear paint and paint the whole plastic covering the diodes. And from then you have no problem about leds anymore! Its still using low electricity and its shining light with the orange plastic on! Who thinks this is a good idea? 👇
Unless you are looking directly into the street light for a prolonged period of time you will be OK (Actually you might be a bit blind so don't do it!), just tell the homeless guy to move down a bit if he wants to get some kip. You are looking directly at the screen of a phone / tablet / computer for a long period of time, so of course it will affect you, duh!
I look at my blue phone screen every night and it never has affected my sleep. I don’t ever use the Night Shift mode anymore even though it helps even more.
@@anthonywilliams8956 I just don’t get why they use the brightest street lights though. It shines through people’s windows and just causes restless nights. The construction works really install the brightest blue LED unshielded street lights. The ones in my area are shielded, but still 4,000K and above. They should probably changed them to amber LED lights that would resemble high pressure sodium lamps. I miss the old sodium lights because they weren’t terribly bright. Some LED street lights look like a stadium.
How exactly is it "gross colored"? They looked very nice at night and much more beautiful then boring white ugly ass LED's. Even mercury vapor is better than LED, and I like them. They were never meant for street lighting.
First, THIS isn’t a conspiracy theory. I haven’t seen this in my state. The LED street lights have the colors of red, blue, and green filters. Problem: When the green filter fails (this is a defect), the red and blue lights emit the purple light. Duke Energy is working on correcting the problem. The reason for the changes in streetlights is due to the fact that they are looking to provide more energy efficient solutions as LED lights are more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. This problem started back in 2019 where manufacturing facilities who produced these LED lights had filters that failed on 1 to 2 percent of the lights. The company behind producing these LED lights is called ACUITY who sold their lights to Duke Energy who provided coverage of more efficient street lights in many states. So, the conspiracy theory has been solved and has nothing to do with the end times and now we can inhale and exhale 😮💨 with a sigh of relief 😅.

They are full of lead, PCB's, plastic, and oher componens in the motherboards that are NOT recyclable and have to be shipped on a freighter to Africa so kids making 20 cents an hour can burn them over an open pit to extract the materials from the circuit boards. The green filter defects began only recently, and even that defect may have been an intentional design.
Every bulb in our house is led and has been for about 6 years and we’re all fine, we have lower energy bills and way longer lasting bulbs as we use mostly Philips bulbs, coupled with solar panels and lighting is basically free in the sunnier months.

You can point a steady laser beam to the sensor just above the street light for 1 min and it will turn off for a while then repeat it.

We should be using Amber LEDs. PC Amber ( Phospher Converted Amber) or NBA ( Narrow Band Amber.) For are streetlights. Not white LEDs.
