That's why LEDs suck. The old hps lights were way better and never had this issue
Bring back the orange/amber street lights.
HPS rocks!!!
LED street lights are garbage. Old fixtures works better and last longer
Bring back Thomas & Betts (McGraw Edison) and Cooper (old Westinghouse), but forget the General Electric street light fixtures back in the city of Detroit. The residents will be happy about it.
sodium streetlight head fixtures are better than the new L.E.D. streetlight head fixtures because the yellow glow from the sodium streetlight head fixtures are bright but they are easy on the eyes and they should have energy saving sodium streetlight bulbs they already have energy saving house light bulbs so why not make energy saving streetlight sodium bulbs?
You can reduce the wattage for high-pressure sodium bulbs from 150w to 100w or from a 100w to 70w to save energy. I agree that they are much better than LEDs!
Typical LED's. Horrible things.
Bring back Sodium vapor lights back in Detroit, and keep the metal light poles that are 30 years and newer, but not the light poles that comes from the Greenfield Village because it is falling apart, rusted out, and/or being disrepair, therefore cannot last too long for more than 100 years. Bring McGraw-Edison, Crouse Hinds, Cooper, and even a few General Electric M400 single door units, dated from the 1986 to 1996.
That's not going to happen L.E.D. LIGHTS HAVE VIRTUALLY OUTDONE LPS AND HPS LIGHTS
@@stephensnell5707 LEDs are junk. High-Pressure Sodium bulbs don't ever have this problem.
@@John-bs5ugexactly
Dude you’re speaking my language. Love the old lamps
This is MY kinda news
The Bay Area has tons of these LED streetlights right now and I'm hoping I don't go blind from how bright they are..
There was even an accident from the new lights doing that.
When the LED streetlights are flashing like strobe lights, it can really make me nervous, even scared at night because of my seizure disorder. e. g, if these lights were like that by my apartment at night, I would close my blinds, or curtains, and keep the lights on all night when I'm sleeping.
Look up 5g
@@janetteduncan4164 look up failing LED driver (ballast), 5G is a completely different can of worms.
Oh yeah, the whole US is interested in those flickering lights, that's some really informative news.
LED lights are crap.
Jack Mustang yes the mercury street lights were nicer
@Porsche Man
Hardly, for streetlighting. For indoor lighting, yes.
It makes me blind
I’ve seen these just outside of Baltimore Maryland
"New" is just an excuse for things being cheaply made.
FoxMechanic I just noticed they replaced a GE M400 that doesn't have the fin on it, but was cycling (It was a HPS) with a shitty Cree LED.
It has been there ever since I moved into the area 11 years ago, even older. What a disappointment
Yes LEDs are the worst pieces of junk ever, I don't know why they were ever made. In my town be replacing LEDs with high pressure sodium. So funny!
@@perryraybuck1239
NO WAY! I really hope you're telling the truth. I've been waiting to read something like this forever. Please take pictures or a video of the new HPS lamps. Please??
@@Lunar_Capital just kidding.
They are not taking the old HPS street lights down. Neither are they upgraded to LED. The comment was just a joke because I really hate on LED.
+Mike Walter my point is that the 35 watt LPS bulbs are lasting longer than the LED bulbs
Actually L.E.D. LIGHTS WILL LAST UP TO 100,000 HOURS BEFORE THEY START TO FAIL
@@stephensnell5707shut your gullible ass up, they don’t last
@@stephensnell5707 yeah, like these ones lasted a good amount of time, and worst of all, there is no lamp socket, so the bulbs can't (easily) be replaced in the field. (although this appears to be a ballast related issue and has nothing to do with the bulbs )
See, LED is trash
Happening in Chicago now too with the new LEDs they installed, they just don't hold up to the weather imho.
If they would actually install REAL lights (HPS or PSMH) they wouldn't have this problem.
Yeah led are always cheaply made would rather have hps or mv or psmh
These replaced the HPS.
@@majortom4300 L.E.D. ARE REAL LIGHTS AS WELL AND LAST 20+ YEARS
That is a reason why LED sucks
@@stephensnell5707no they don’t, you’re just gullible
And the old street lights in Patchogue, NY still work and those are like 70 years old and the new street lights in Central Islip, NY only lasted 5 days how embarrassing
+John Holz Old lights do not last more than 5-6 years and they are mass replaced every 5 years to avoid outages.
HA! If you are talking about the fixtures, In my town, we still have older fixtures that are from the 70's AND 80's, still working to this day. If you are talking about the bulbs, yes, they tend to last 5-6 years straight. But I have a street light that hasn't been serviced since before 2009. still working today, I am impressed with these lights.
Adam Correia you know in Greenport, NY, there is even an old incandescent streetlight.
John Holz WOW! really now? There is a town (forgot the name :( ) near Newport RI that also has incandescent street lighting (literally more than 50% is incandescent.) I thought it was the only town, guess not! that's awesome!
Update, I believe it is Portsmouth, RI.
I’ve always liked the look of the orange street lights. A lot less harsh on the eyes.
That’s happened to me several times at a parking lot with a super markets and several businesses. I wasn’t frightened. It was just interesting. Clearly an electrical issue.
LED bulbs are extremely sensitive to voltage dropouts and wiring faults. It's just like Detroit to upgrade all the lights but not re-run entirely new wiring through the entire network.
It is optics they already set up to monitor you and everyone, stop being nieve. Google optogenetics I dare you
I hope those HID lights are back
Its 5g!!!!!@@
Now all of Long Island in New York has LED lights
My bedroom light does the same but dims after awhile.
,track and trace ...
Since they are out of sync, I think some of the light is getting reflected back into the sensors and causing a feedback loop.
Yeah, that can be possible...
Probably what they meant but mechanical mixup then, I was thinking maybe a massive inverter or something that poweres them or a mini sub station like box somewhere with a short. Idk how street lights are set up.
@@nathanlester9985 street lights usually are connected to the main circuit unless they are running on 24O V, then they would need a step up transformer witch could fail. but it looks like, in this case, the LED drivers (ballasts) in the light fixtures themselves appear to be defective. as for the photocell theory, this could be true as well UNLESS, the lights are group controlled (the whole street is contro1led by one photocell and/or time control and/or ripple control)
Either something wrong with the wiring or the LED is just straight garbage, 6 years living with LED street light never found this much of a problem
Annoying flashing lights? More like hilarious lol
The light is shining in the photo cell
i hope that all of the led streetlights and led streetlight head fixtures all over the world and in the bronx brooklyn manhattan queens and staten island and new jersey would all start flickering on and off and blinking on and off like christmas lights and start flashing and half of the led streetlight head fixtures would go off and stop working and then they would have to change the led streetlight head fixtures back to plastic shielded sodium streetlight head fixtures from years past and those were the best streetlight head fixtures that the world and different countries and the five boroughs the bronx brooklyn manhattan queens and staten island and new jersey has ever had and they need to change the streetlight bulbs and put energy saving sodium streetlight bulbs.
The south half of nj is about 85% hps still
Aliens are makin some sort of communication
Unless they replace those leds back to the hps lights, people are just going to keep on having trouble sleeping at night because even when their blinds are closed, they don,t keep oujt the light, therefore I think that the hps lamps are extremely better then those crappy leds streetlights.
Security lights they flash like that on purpose. Deterent to keep drivers off the street at night.
Is Dec 2021 and more blue lights appearing. New Haven CT
That happened in Central Islip, NY
An update with the lights all of the LED streetlights are broken
leds junk
Still better lighting than we've had for the past decade lol
😶what? The city can no longer afford its street lights or electricity supply?
Energy saving blinking led
forget Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, put on some shades and play sunglasses at night on full blast while dancing!
There is street light where I live that does the same thing
You can only play double dutch if he can match the Rhythm the lights have to be in sync matching the rhythm.
Look up LIFI technology.
The new street lights broke in 2012
People : that light head me : there's no such thing as head light
They just installed these on highway 101
Those damn aliens.
I have LED security lights. They started strobing, the very night the power company installed new, digital meters. Go figure. LOL
7 years ago...... Today is January 22nd 2023..... Now we know exactly what this pulsating light does...... It affects the nervous system of the body there are scientific papers about this.
They just put one of these on my street, what is this?
To much wattage on the lamp circuit
Loose neutral on supply side
The bulbs are probably made to not run off of a ballast and they installed them with a ballast and it's causing them to Flicker after a few weeks
highly unlikely, since the ballasts are in the fixtures themselves and the LED lights have there own ballasts, they are called "drivers"
"You don't think it's aliens making them blink like that?" WTF, is this even news? Isn't it some funny show? :-D
Its just the falty wireing or the lights don’t have anought power to keep it running
Streetlights are annoying
cheap components
Here on manchester to Hamilton its been happening
The brizrettifier got damage
Why can the Alexandria City fix those issue.
Say cheese
HPS could never
Failed / failing LED drivers or low voltage.
I bet the photocontrols (cylinder box that turns the lamp off during daytime) are broken
+realimbored668 Looks like the LED drivers. Overheated in the summer, now cold, now broken.
@realimbores668 that’s not the reason but good take
ET call home check honda odyssey
The Demogorgon is very close!! 😱
Maybe the wired
Looks like it would have been caused by a issue with the photocell on top. There may be some way of light getting into the photocell's sensor.
I wouldn’t say it’s the photocell that’s causing it since it’s almost every light on the street doing the same thing it’s probably a wiring issue, or something wrong with the ballast. who knows?
*Y’all live in the USA yet yall Complain about light*
Morse code listen to the message
its those cheap crees
the XSP's SUCK!!!!, every Woolworths is installing them now, so is new world, and some are even in the parking lot of the hospital where i currently reside. imagine if they go on the fritz too?
