As an optometrist, Dr. Mike did his research. I repeat this stuff over and over every day. I would say that his sponsor's bluelight filtering glasses are not as effective as using the programs that change the color of your screen. The reason why the glasses he put on were clear and also do not effect the wearer's color vision perception is because they don't block that much blue light. Glasses companies and optometrists want to make money off you by selling glasses when these programs and settings on your devices already do this stuff for free.

I bought Blue light glasses a few years ago. I was having SEVERE eye pain, and couldn't figure it out. The eye doctors said everything was fine, but I knew better. It was so bad that my eyes were starting to get blurred. I finally did my own research and knew it had to be from the phone/computer, because I was on it ALL the time. 12 hours at work, and then go home and on it before bed. I found out about Blue light and ordered a pair off amazon. My eyes were better the first night. The pain was gone, and I'm going 2 years with no eye pain at all, and I'm still on the electronics as much as before. It seriously saved my eyes. Also, just in case anyone was wondering I ordered 2 pairs. 50% and 100%. The half off was good at first, because you can see everything naturally, but I eventually started liking the 100% more. It makes colors change on the computer, but I know I'm getting max protection. Good luck!

Too many blue light blocking glasses companies are making money off consumer ignorance. Finally someone got it right. Like always, I appreciate the objective truth Dr. Mike
My phone has a blue light filter in the settings, so I didn't have to download anything. I always turn it on at night _and_ lower the phone brightness. It helps a lot. 😊
I do have eye strain issues though, and I'm always forgetting to blink. 😩 Gonna start setting my timer when I'm online/writing so I can do the 20/20/20 thing. I knew about it before this vid, but I always forget to do it, so this was a nice reminder!
Dr Mike: "Step two feet away from your screen".
Me: "I can't, your face is on it".

Doctors: "Blue Light keeps you up at night."
Dell: "Cool. Let's give all of our laptop chargers blue LEDs, so our customers can find their chargers in the dark and use them while they sleep."
Doctors: "No, wait, what?"
Doctors: “staring at a screen for long periods of time causes eye strain”

@@twineberry Software dev here - This is why you need to take regular breaks. regular breaks are found to boost concentration, learning and they'll prevent eyestrain.
I'm a software dev with an eye condition. I am able to do my job without horrible migraines because I don't "stare" at the screen for 8 hours straight
Funnyn i sleep like a baby after watching 3 movies
I use Apple's night mode, which changes my screen to warmer tones. Maybe glasses would help, too. Nixing all screen time in the hours before bed is a no-go. I have to unwind somehow, and reading books can often engage my mind and keep me up all night.
'Sunshine' doesn't exist when you wake up at 5 :(
But it does when you go to sleep at 2pm...and yes PM 😑😑 or at any daytime....i am a wreckXD
@@MusicFreakgirl666 my sleep yesterday literally where from 11 pm until 3 am and from 8 until 11 am.... And today I am supposed to wake up at 6.30am what is in 5 hours so....
I got one of those sunrise alarm clocks and it helped me wake up better. It starts lighting up 30 min before your alarm goes off.
I had to recheck if I’m on YT or Netflix watching a movie.
The way the guy at the start called you "Mike" without the "Dr."
I--- O.O
Like... Who is he talking about? 😁😁
“Be atleast 2 feet away from your computer screen”
Me watching this part of the video 2 inches away from my phone screen
2 inches away, under a blanket in bed at 1 am on max brightness and light mode on.
I only ever is that close to a screen when I am reading on my phone in bed just before falling asleep.
But the screen is, of course, white on black, so there is not that much light overall.
"you want to be at least two feet away"
*slowly moves my phone away from my face*
Dr. Mike: no screen two- three hours before bed.
Online school: I’m gonna pretend I didn’t see that.
School finishes at about 3pm in my country, are your schools really running that late?
Stettafire Or it’s because everything is always due at 11:59PM
@@hunter_hiebert that normally means the end of the submission time tho not the start. That said I do submit last minute too xD
@@Stettafire I had university classes finishing at 9 pm :(
I love how mike can go from a regular funny guy to a frickin teacher in seconds
So much!!
And an annoying teacher at that! (said in the most endearing tone as possible, I like the annoyance)
Dr. Mike: Avoid screens at least 2 hrs before bedtime.
Me, a stubborn writer who works late to write her novels: I'm afraid I can't do that. My protagonist is in the middle of a chase and I can't just leave it there.
Mind telling me what you write? Links?
Good luck!
I have 2 pairs of blue blocking glasses. I wear them all the time.
I’ve had both prescription & non-prescription blue light blocking glasses for about a year and I love them! I used to get 3-4 migraines/week due to lack of sleep but now I sleep much better and rarely ever get migraines. 10/10 would definitely recommend!!
The 20/20/20 rule and blue-light-blocking glasses are the solutions for me. Thank you, Dr. Mike.
@zunaira zubair just watch this before you buy blue light glasses ua-cam.com/video/NkJY9bgLyBE/v-deo.html
@@philcoulson03 Thank you for sharing this. I'll do more research. I think Dr. Mike did raise all of the other points in the video about factors affecting our sleep and eyes along with precautions we can take. These glasses are like an add-on to the process. But, definitely, we shouldn't waste money if something isn't worth it.
@@zunairazubair5719 that's exactly what i was trying to convey. ☺

Thanks for this Dr. Mike. Three years following your YT channel it's really informative and helpful.

Fun fact, blue light is also the most effective wavelength for driving photosynthesis. By comparison, green light is almost useless, which is why most plants reflect it.
Dr Mike: 2 feet away from your screen
My myopia and astigmatism: yeah I dont think so
🤣
Nystagmus and strabismous. Same.
The heck is that
Eye fatigues are the worst, thank you for the tips. My job requires lots screen staring and when I get too concentrated I really forget about blinking. I will definitely try these tips out ! Hope it helps 🤞
