Your real world driving experience is more useful to potential customers than the road tests by journalists; thanks for sharing with us. 😎
Agree. 99% of the drivers just leave everything in the default mode and drive normal speed. I find this review more realistic.
Yup! Like trying to click through the menus while on the highway haha
6,1 seconds in wet road is just awesome IMHO
Hope they fix that 1s delay, that's just.... dangerous in real life traffic.
New Ioniq 5n with 585 hp is interesting to buy. Acceleration is better than audi RS3 and BMW M3 who are some snails compared to ioniq 5N.
Very interesting to buy ☝️😁☝️🚀😁
@@caleidoo That 1 second delay is the traction control preventing the tires from spinning like crazy on the wet surface. If that traction control was truly disabled, you would spin longer than 1 second on full throttle. On dry surfaces, the car will go to 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, so no 1 second delay...
This car is phenomenal in many ways and is perfect for a family. Better looking, technologically more advanced, and more unique than ID4, Enyaq or even Tesla model Y. I believe these are it's main competitors. I am surprised a bit with bad consumption (considering it is a Hyundai), but now seeing how you drive it, I understand. :D It had better consumption than Enyaq in a big Norway test (503 km until it died), so I suppose those cars also would also not do well in these conditions combined with your driving. Yeah I know you had cruise control in that range test, but still.... Some comments in the video are really nitpicky, and structure is a bit chaotic, but overall a nice review considering the limited time with a car.
Norway had 19" 235 tyres, though. P45 won't have them afaik.
Great car , the load time is from 10% til 80% in 18 minutes 😀
Where can I find the Norway test?

I think Chris was having fun! Cheers for the review.
I like the layout of your video 🙂. Very nice to see the whole dashboard and main display as well as your driving position while you comment on the car’s behavior and performance. “Amazing” 😀👍
Well done on the scoop
My favourite Ioniq 5 review.
Thank you
Thanks for this amazing video. There were lots of information for me.
I really like this car! I can't wait to see what's available in a few years that could replace our Forester.
Maybe, but they have lane assist and that sort of thing so that will help the driver.
Thanks for an informative and honest (good + bad) review. This seems like a great car. My only worry is the issue with the lack of a rear wiper.
I would not have known there was no weird wipers or noticed until he mentioned it.
Might have to Aquapel the rear window.
Lucky rear camera can be turn on.
So many tidbits of information - and so much fun. What's not to like about Chris's testing 👍
😁
Rear wiper, please.
Well done, Cristiano! 👍🏻😺
There is so many setting possible in this car, you might find what you want. I have seen for exemple that you can have a smart setting that adapt the reaction to how you drive, so you can choose to have limited power in eco, and normal, and full in sport, or choose that the car adapte itself to you, and be more reactive even if you are in eco mod for exemple if you have an energic way to drive. I guess that you don't have to change the drive mod that much then. I think that I would prefer for me to decide because otherwise I will drive always energic even if I wanted to save energy in the first place. 😁
Going for a test drive tomorrow at the local Hyundai dealer. Ireland 🇮🇪
Nice 👍. I ordered an Ioniq 5 and cannot wait to get it!! 🤗
Same here
Same here. And thats why time feels passing soooo slow and test videos focusing somethong irrelevants. Would love to see some night drive test with those lights and honest feeling of general driving in family perspective
@@ariilmasti8530 are you sure it has the matrix lights?
So I'm told
Me too
Good to see more critical reviews coming out.
haha great laughter when u spin the wheels! xD very useful video as well=)
Thank you for the review.
Great video chris
You may want to RainX the rear window to help with visibility.
Nice car! Nice dashboard. ( still against selfdriving and steering cars) I do like the screens. But i think the steering wheel looks very weird. It’s hard to love.. why is there no logo? And it’s also a 2 point wheel .. like we had in cheap cars in the 80s..
Good review. No goofing off.
Really great video! way more actual user feedback than others and I really like your multi angle composition, thanks for this. I'm currently considering ordering one of these and am unsure about some of the Usability factors vs the Tesla model 3 - really interested to know how you feel about that back window situation? I'm in the UK and we have a lot of rain!
Thanks. Back window is not great in the rain. But I have no experience with the Model 3 in those conditions.
in the ev market, the hyundai makes different value of the car. forget about the gasoline cars they make from now on . the new ear just has started for hyundai. they will beat the japanese cars.
Not after Toyota develops their solid state battery.
You can just hold the lane assist button in for 3 sec on the wheel and it turns off.
I know that now as well. 4 months too late ;)
The constant whiteness of the two screens would do my eyes and head in before long. Is there a 'dark mode'?
I think so
There is.
I also wish the bezel would be black instead of white.
Why do reviewers always want sporty, firm suspension? Do they think that all consumers are sports car enthusiasts?
Not true. Model Y and Model 3 have way to hard and sporty Suspension. Ioniq 5 is just a bit too soft. You feel the car jumping a bit and moving too much in the corner. I prefer the mix. Not too soft, not too sporty
Loved the video. It was fun.
6:50 They should design the rear window with water removal by airflow, even at cost of worse coefficient drag. Old Citroen Xantia hatchback (Cx 0.33) shows it's effective - the waterdrops magically disappear over 60 km/h in few minutes; at autobahn speed in less than minute. Even on heavy rain. Tested!
That is supposedly the purpose of the rear spoiler, but sounds like it doesn't work as they intended.
@@damiensullivan2702 just needs to use some water repealant with it I guess.
I really don’t see what the problem is with a rear wiper. What are you supposed to do, for example, first thing in the morning when you are reversing when the car has been out all night? Living in the UK we have a lot of rain or condensation that appears on a car overnight. Unless you have a garage, an unclear rear screen is a daily occurrence in winter and even some summer days. I think Hyundai should think about this or at least offer it as an option. It is a problem I could put up with but I don’t think I could afford an Ionic 5 anytime soon. Good informative video.
@@royagyei1099 maybe reverse camera or (like honda e ) camera (heated) mirror
@@stili774 agreed. I am still a bit old school and looking over my shoulder when reversing is a habit I would find hard to change. No doubt I would get used to using reversing cameras etc. It’s not a problem that I am going to have to deal with anytime soon. 😊
I was wondering, can you have the backup camera on while you drive?
Yes you can
Question: what would you order if you were me, I have an opportunity to order the ID 4 or a EV6 ?
You should drive both and get what is more important to you.
EV6 charges amazing, Id.4 is very comfortable, but EV6 is not far behind.
@@BatteryLife thanks! Yep i have had a chance to sit in a Kia, it wasn’t as comfortable for me as a VW. I like the service VW provide and warranty.
I haven’t had any opportunity to find out what Kia is like for service and warranty. But Saw a EV6 at the dealer just sitting waiting for service, very dirty like it was there for a few weeks.
Thanks. I do enjoy your style of testing... consumer test rather than car journalist or racer review. Would you choose this over your ID3 and why? Is it more or less refined/ quiet on the motorway? Many thanks!
Thanks. For it is too big and I am not a fan of all the beeping for various things.
Thx for sharing. Does it driver better than a Tesla Model Y ? Also, there is no wiper on the rear window because the rear upper spoiler blows it off (at least it’s supposed to). Cheers 👍
Never drove a Model Y. There should be a wiper, but there isn't.
@@BatteryLife Got ya, I thought you had a model 3 (drives the same). According to what I read they did away with the wiper and used a vent. Have a great day!
Love it!! Could U Please try on dry road for next video . ?
I am getting a press car Ioniq 5 rwd in April.
How reliable is the lane-centering tech on freeways for long drives (highway driving assist)? I am looking for an EV for road trips with reliable semi-autonomous tech..!
No my expertise!
@@BatteryLife all good sir-- thanks for review!
what will ioniq5 do if i don't touch the steering wheel even after the call .... stop at the side of the road?
I think, just disengage Self steering
@@BatteryLife So it's a function of no use if it shuts down.
Meant to ask, were the regen modes still equally functional after you had charged it, or is it like a Tesla and you need to run it down a bit before regen braking works well?
At 100% Soc not full regen, but still strong.
Great, practical review. I was planning to purchase this car to replace my Niro EV, but you twice mentioned the lack of rear wiper and that's a deal-breaker for me. It rains and snows here and no aero spoiler is going to properly clear a window at 80km/h.
I agree it perhaps was a bit to brave from Hyundai, but also , it is kind of a design statement with balls. :) You can turn on a rear view camera (i think with press of one button) if needed, but I personally think side mirrors can do most of the "safety job" necessary when changing lanes, and that camera when turning on side signals definitively also additionally helps when you really decide to change lanes and warns you if you cannot..
How many sedans have rear wipers ?
@@danielbob4310 No idea. But the Ioniq 5 looks like a hatchback to me. Pretty certain Hyundai isn’t marketing it as a sedan, though.
3:08 that GTR
I absolutely loved this car as soon as they announced it but i feel like the infotainment screen is to little?!
Too little? I think it is ok. No real update to the Kona though.
@@BatteryLife ok sounds great thanks. Might just look too little through the display screen :)
It would have been helpful to know which model of Ioniq 5 you were testing...
I've ruled out the SE CONNECT model with Rear wheel drive 58KWh battery 170hp...So PREMIUM... or ULTIMATE... REAR WHEEL DRIVE OR ALL WHEEL DRIVE. which is the difference of 217hp 73KWh battery...comparred to 306hp..73KWh battery.
Good review otherwise.
P45. It did 4 videos in 4 hours with the same car.
Would you get an Ioniq 5 long range or an ID.3 Pro S for daily driving? Which is most comfortable and economical/ecological in the long run?
non of the two give me a Dacia spring.
@@paulvanderhaegen761 that car is just trash, even an e up is better, or a used pre face lift ioniq.
I would have hoped you tested the self driving features of this car too. It's fun to drive sporty but 95% of the time you just want to engage self driving on the high way or in traffic jams and relax :).
Good for you. I am not a fan of self steering features. I had it on with the range test, not with the drive review ;)
09:58 Keep your distance!!!
And thanks for a great video.
Thank you for the new video. I just saw in a different video that there is a setting for automatic speed ajustment at speed limits. Did you check it and does it really work like with the ID.3?
There is. I haven't used it. I am not a fan. Turned off in my Id.3 as well.
@@BatteryLife ok, thank you. I drive the car next week and check ist out. I like this feature!
@@BatteryLife automatic speed adjustment while using ACC in our new Id3 is driving me crazy. Are you saying that it can be turned off? If so, PLEASE, where?
I can see that in the future they were gonna be a lot of crashes caused by people tinkering with their touchscreens
Selecting stuff in the screen looks obnoxiously slow! Why is there such a big lag?
Author, what total distance had you cover in the video?
In Kona my21 you can turn the lane assist off from the steering wheel by holding "lane assistant button" for 5 seconds. Have to do it every time the car is started. I assume ioniq 5 should have the same
Kona electric has a button on the left dashboard with the VESS button. Ioniq 5 not.
@@BatteryLife seems to be a bit different in my21 model (facelift) then. I can turn it off from the steering wheel. The point was that maybe it's the same in ioniq 5. Kona my21 facelift does not have the vess button anymore either due EU regulation changes.
Good news, according to the UK Owners manual is has this button.
See page 396.
Big fan of this car but the two big negatives I see from your review….the lack of rear wiper and the consumption seems poor. Any possible fix they can do on these as you see it?
Can't judge efficiency in a short review with climate control, battery conditioning, the rain/slip and some acceleration tests.
Do you turn on heating rear window? That usually helps
He did on a previous video. Hyundai said that the aero is suppose to help but does not seem like it.
Quick question: what kWh version are you driving, because you said Polestar 2, TM3 and XC40 had better acceleration? But the Ioniq 5 with 72,6 kWh dual-motor has 225 kW/306 HP, and 605 Nm, going 0-100 kph in 5,2 sec. So it should feel faster right?
P45, awd, big battery.
It is wet! And...I measure the time from where I floor it. So the power delay is in my measured time.
@@BatteryLife There isnt a delay! It has faster response as taycan! So dunno why this is.
Hold down the lane assist button on the steering wheel to turn it off
Between this car and the Volvo XC40, what would you say are the pro/con of each car compared to each other?
Pros!
Volvo: more power, android os
Ioniq 5: electric platform, more space, better suspension.
How is the headroom? How tall ate you?
Fantastic video Chris! I was hoping that the rear window would clean off at speed guess not!
Maybe a coating of Rain X would help.
Or just have the rear camera display always on 🤔
Are there any larger cars you’ve tested that are completely stable at 140-160kph in the rain? ID4?
Also did you have all the traction control things turned off when you were testing the 0-100 speeds? If not I would imagine the delay at the start is it figuring out how it’s going to launch you without slipping all over the place?
Polestar, iPace, id4...all more stable at 160.
traction control was on.
Don't think it has anything to do with it.
@@BatteryLife On a wet road it could, if you put the max of power suddenly. Try on a dry road to be sure.
@@BatteryLife Fair enough, i only say that because the only other standing start test i've seen of the AWD model doesn't appear to have any lag in the dry - ua-cam.com/video/nG5CsDugnDA/v-deo.html
@@adamtm82 Even in this video gap between pedal click and actual car movement start is quite visible.
What drives better, ID.3/ID.4 or the Ioniq 5?
Id.3 for me. I like it small and agile.
Are you sure there isn't a button on the steering wheel for turning the lane assist OFF? It looks like the same system on my new i30 and you can either turn it off from the menu, or more easily from the wheel.
I did not see anything.
Are the basic Leds any good?
Have maybe night drive video
When you drive in sport mode, then it´s normal that the roads feel more bumpy. Try the normal mode and it will feel better/softer.
I drove 200km in eco mode before. The same. Ioniq 5 does not have dynamic chassis control.
@@BatteryLife But it does have an independent suspension both in the front and rear, right?
I can not agree with your review, I drove the same model yesterday also on the Autobahn in the sport-modus not only up to 150 km/h, I drove up to its maximum speed 185 km/h and my impression was, that this car ist absolut stable at this speed, there was no "feeling of uncertainty" or what so ever (my present car is a BMW 5 and the safety-feeling at high speed is very good), the suspension is by far better than the suspension of my BMW, it is more comfortable, but stable on the road and the acceleration is fantastic in 5,2 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, that are results of supersportscars 25 years ago, if that is too less for you .......
but the most wrong comment of you was the statement, that your VW ID 3 has similar accelaration as the Ionic 5 allweeldrive, that is not true at all.
True, it is faster than my Id.3 and I reclined the statement in the video :)
I live in the prairies where the winter can be brutal, I'll closely watch how they'll improve their EV architecture and software for the next few years. I would really love a small electric pickup.
What a brilliant vehicle and its cousin, the Kia Ev6, look like real players for the EV market & auto market in general. The rear windshield is a problem though for both vehicles. I know you generally don't use the rear wipers often but when you do use them it's because you need them. I live where it snows & if the wind doesn't get rid of the rain it's definitely not getting rid of the snow.
Use rainx instead
Hi there, do you know what kind of roof bars are compatible with the Ioniq 5?

Do you need to use the START / STOP Button to start driving and stop driving or is it like the ID3 where you can chose ?
You have to use it.
Currently one of the best electric cars on the market.
For the coming 5 years you will continue to see better and better EVs, especially in the beginning development will go extremely fast.
@@buddy1155 yes, at the moment, however, the Korean electric vehicles are leading the way.
The battery and the range is not big enough, for the size of the car.
@@haraldschon2485 BMW, Renault, Nissan and Mercedes are all introducing interesting cars this year.
@@jaz4280 That would really depends on the person who uses the car. For 98% of the people the Range is sufficient for their daily commute.
I do wonder if some of your reported range issues (albeit at high speed in poor conditions) might be due to that overzealous battery management - seems rather heavy-handed. Perhaps that can be relaxed in software updates going forwards. For now with my next lease change due late November I'm really hoping the BMW i3 gets that possible battery upgrade, the current one does so much well I've found annoying in others! Especially all the digital noises and interference in the Korean cars which are otherwise great!
do you know if the new ioniq ev line up 5, 6, and 7 are going to replace the plug-in and hybrid models? or will Hyundai continue to create a 2022 plugin and hybrid model?
Sorry. No idea.

It is shown in the video!
@@BatteryLife 2 or 4wd...I can't see where you tell us either... Is it too difficult for you to answer 2 or 4!
I agree with you that screen surround needs to be black.
Why the delay? This is not proper behavior, something must be wrong.
Can you do a test in hot condition? Something like in Southern Cali? This car can do 0-60 in 5.1 sec in sunny conditions.
If Hyundai gives me a press car, Yes!

It's funny to see the retro styling extends to the HUGE bezels around the two screens.
Is a garage door opener offered?
Not that I know of.
Which do you prefer among this, id3, id4, model3, modelYand kona ev?
Id.3, then kona.

Maxbe there will be a Shorrcut or something.
@@BatteryLife lots of cars have kept the shortcut yes. Those with everything on the tab should FOTA the button yes
Changing driving mode while accelerating is not ideal because every mode has a different gas pedal setting response so if you are pressing let's say 30% in eco mode and switch to sport mode , the same amount of pedal pression is corresponding to a different map let's say 40,% , so always better to change mode while decelerating or with a very light pressure ( this on the Kona but i think it's no different on this new Ioniq)
I know. And I don't like it. Other cars do that better.
@@BatteryLife doesn't the ioniq 5 switch to RWD when in eco mode. I'm sure there would be a noticeable switch while moving if that's the case. I'm assuming because that's a feature of the e-gmp platform
Can this rly be a problem? As well as lack of rear wiper. Meaning, I have a wagon which rear wiper I hardly use. I use "glas wax" instead and service station regularly. But...+ and - for every one..

6:52 This is a deal breaker, additionaly to the LKAS-always-on-"features"/bug. What a bummer. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
They say this car doesn't need one due to "Aerodynamics" that blow the water off but obviously put into practice its stupidity and doesn't work have been complaining about it since I first saw this vehicle I genuinely love this car but wtf
Nice
Interesting review! Although I find it funny how often the word power is used for a 2 something tonne electric carriage. I found the power reserve more than adequate and never felt like I need more. And sporty, another pointless characteristic in a sensible car. I wouldn't think of the ioniq5 as a sports car, so I think wanting that is a bit pretentious. I did drive sportier cars, and ended up with crippling back pain.
Power has nothing to do with a sportier car. Volvo xc40 is a comfortable suv, but the 300kW awd feels amazing.
Börn has to wait until end July before he gets the Ionic 5, he was very unhappy about it.

Tesla great job, max speed, range especially. Still prefer, being in Europe, comfort. 99% of my trips are within 200kms one way. I WANT ventilated seats, Android Auto, and HUD. Also like reclining seats with foot rest and reclining console for arms rest, all electronic aids especially against collisions, automated parking (Executive version), blind spot cams on dashboard when turning, V2L, sun shades integrated in back doors, sunroof shade, wide space available inside with good visibility through the back window etc. Also 5 year car warranty illimited kms (Max 80 000 for Tesla... Reliability issues?), and 8 year battery warranty (same as Tesla).
It looked so promising - almost magical. But it's no good for the Autobahn and it falls short by range. But it's scoring in the design department and also charging! 800V rules..

You should drive all the time with both hands, especially in a highway and especially at more than 130 km/h! You can find some debris on the road or hit something and believe me, you would like to have both hands on the steering wheel. I went over a big dog that jumped in front of me at around 110 km/h and I was very glad I had both hands on the steering wheel. I have a friend that had a tyre failure at 130 km/h and because he could react instantaneously he didn't crash... So yes, having both hands all the time on the steering wheel is good for your safety. I understand what you want to say about making the corrections all the time, and that's not nice but not because you have to use both hands... But nice video in general! I think this is the first proper ioniq 5 quick review that I've seen!
That rearview thing is also super annoying in the ioniq
I get the clean design of the interior, but I think the design of the two displays isn’t well executed, they basically look like two android tablets (trying to be iPads) from years ago bolted together; the huge white bezels seem weird. The steering wheel design has a bit of a whiff of some sort of generic aftermarket fit thing as well…
