One thing I love about the EV revolution is how brave the designers are becoming. I'm used to seeing incredible concept cars only for the real thing to end up just another disappointing update of the previous model... now it's like the designers have been told to go wild and when they come up with an idea, they just build it.
Except affordability of course. They'd have more people driving electric vehicles if they didn't expect things such as fenders to cost consumers a 1000 dollars for a 10 dollar amount of injection molded plastic. The thing with EVs is there are so few technica restrictions. want the drive in the back, technically irrelvant so costs the same. you put the "corners" in the actual corners if you want. you want the motors on the wheels in the corners, no problem. That first sentence you wrote is $pot on. They want money to make the world go around remaining their obvious incentive far moreso than the claim that they care about protecting the planet. @@MG_Steve idk? The top spec ioniq 5 already is around 4.9s 0-60. I know the hyundai sheet says 5.2s 0-62mph, but Johnny from the late brake show already got 5.1s on his test drive. So since that time currently matches up very well against the mach e4x er and the tesla model y lr awd. Maybe hyundai doesn't care so much about going after the under 4s 0-60 crowd? Otherwise the model y performance, Kia ev6gt and the about to be released mach e gt. All have it beat quite handily for acceleration anyway. 🤔 It's interesting that the Korean twins have the v2l feature. Which even as an option is something Ford, tesla&vw can't match. Although vw claims all id series bevs by next year will offer v2l capabilities. And elon hinted at tesla enabling something like that in the near future. Which was interesting because he also claimed the original roadster offered v2l. And the upcoming cybertruck will offer a 240v outlet in the bed to run tools etc with. Then hyundai has the solar roof option for the ioniq 5, which I haven't seen anyone since fisker with the og karma offer as an option. This is something more manufacturer's should offer imo. As it might actually help some with range anxiety in sunnier climates where people don't often have access to a garage. Supposedly it can ad 100 or more miles of range monthly.
Discovering FULLY CHARGED today. What a fantastic car and what an amazing report, hilarious at some point (the charging flap bug), very well filmed and full of enthusiasm. Great ! Thumbs up for you Robert.
Good point, my ebike does 70 miles easily and a lot more if I take it easy do I usually ride to my destination but if I could afford this car I could ho further and charge up without going home.

@@Tim_Small :D Maybe the magnetic field of the globe reacts with the magnets in the motor and makes a DC current, that charges the battery? :D Sounds solit to me
It sounds like they are using coil in the motor as an inductor for the buck/boost converter. This also means batteries are probably 800V as well wich goes in line with their claim of faster charging than equivalent 400V installation.
I cannot wait!!! I’ve been told that my car is now in the country!!! This video and my test drive a month or so back really sold me! The only issues I have is that they have been cheeky and added a tech pack on top of the rather pricey Ultimate trim, which still doesn’t include a vision roof, which I was really excited to be using in the Scottish Highlands on our family trip next year…
That is a pretty good price. Here in Malta we can get up to €9,000 in government incentives which would put this at €36,000. If it is priced anywhere near that it will very probably be my next car. Well, either the IONIQ 5 or the KIA EV6. I really like both.
Hyundais cars are more of the calmer side, while the sister car from Kia, the EV6, is more performance oriented. Like with the palisade and the telluride.
@@JohnLee-db9zt say what you want about Tesla but if it wasn’t for the original Model S, then all these electric cars wouldn’t exist and goverments wouldn’t even be planning to ban ICE cars as soon.
Love this car. I’ve been trying to order one since it’s launch in Feb, after missing out on a Project 45. However, the UK Hyundai dealers have been given no information at all yet on this car, while in Germany you can already order one online. Love the review, and your obvious enthusiasm for what is looking like a really modern looking and practical EV. Can’t wait to get my hands on one.

Here in backwater Australia, it'll be ridiculously expensive & rumours are swirling about an EV tax nationally. Victoria has approved a per KM & EV tax applied to registration. Having said all that this car looks stunning, although cameras completely replacing mirrors spooks me. Both a mirror & camera is preferable.
It’s a shame as it’s a brilliant little car and not too expensive. Can get one for £199/month (about AUS $350/month) and has a 245 mile real world range.
$2.26 a litre in Germany for fuel. When everyone has an EV they will have to get the money from somewhere. I would suggest in Australia owning a second EV car should be tax free as long as you only drive one. You really need the unlimited km in Australia sometimes. I paid 4WD costs fuel and tyres because it was needed. Happy to have an EV for city driving and the 4WD for towing the boat.
Just love how this looks and the specs that are available, really going to shake the EV world up! I know for me this car and the EV6 really have blown the choices I was looking at for my next EV wide open.
The adventures of Robert and the charging flap, a new comedy show coming near you very soon. In all seriousness though, this is a gorgeous car, it's very unlikely to be one I can afford but one can certainly dream
Well done (Sir) Robert! (I'm still working on the Queen to get you "EV" Knighted - have not forgot!). Great first look and impressions. I too am super stoked with the Koreans on these new EVs built from the ground up as all-electrics - the IONIQ 5 and the Kia EV6! They've been doing things right so far, with the exception of building enough EVs, so I expect the IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 to sell very well! Add a hitch so you can put on bikes or a storage box and off to camping one can go! I'm looking forward to seeing one here in Canada hopefully later this year! All the best and continue to stay safe!
Lovely car, one of the first EVs I've been genuinely interested in! By the way, my 2002 Honda CRV had adjustable rear seats like that, you could slide them fore and aft to get more luggage space. It's something I'm surprised more cars don't offer!
Not sure about those screens having white backgrounds. If there's no night mode where it darkens, that would really hurt your eyes late at night. Other than that, it looks great.
Bit disappointed the screens are surrounded by about 8 miles of plastic. We have been thinning the bevels on screens for so long and they seem to be the largest I've ever seen.
What a nice looking fresh design! And 800 volts too. I haven't been this excited to see a new EV since Porsche's Mission E. I hope they produce these in large quantities and price it competitively in both North America and Europe.
Now that is an awesome car, let alone an EV! Love the design, size, tech, the whole shebang! I do believe we have a winner! Definitely interested in buying this car instead of a Tesla, never thought I'd say that...
Awesome look @ the Ionic 5, Robert! It looks like the truly next-gen (almost like stepping into a new decade) of vehicles, it's cool that Hyundai's been dipping their toes into the EV market more and more & this looks like it's their first real bottom-up build with the front trunk & the extra features that really tap into the potential of what an EV can do
I love this car, I saw the launch event and wanted this car even more than I wanted it the first time I saw it. I can imagine Hyundai will sell out really quickly when this car goes on sale, so I'm eager not to miss any opportunity of owning one. Great video Robert, I loved your fun with the EV charge flap!👍🏻
I'd like it to be a bit smaller tbh, with enough room for passengers. I've got a courtesy car atm and it's so jerky but also, there's next to zero leg room for any passengers that aren't in front. Other than that, it is everything I'd want, assuming it has a built in reversing camera. Mainly you want the ride to be smooth imo
I'm so glad we didn't pull the trigger on getting an ev for our family yet. This really gets me excited and is also very practical. The boot is almost as big as my C4 Grand Picasso so we can still handle all the crap we have to carry for the kids when we go out.
The design is brilliant. I am utterly puzzled why so many have gone down the faux spaceship rabbit hole. Great practical shape with excellent outward visibility and quality that can be seen at half a mile. I love the clarity of your presentations and the lovely landscapes don't hurt either. I do think the tourism board should give you a stipend for making the region look so desirable to visit.
have been excited about this for what feels liek ages - a real progressive and ground up design that marries style and real functionality..i3, ipace, e honda and now Ioniq 5....game changer
@@rogerstarkey5390They are really. They can trickle charge the car, but in the UK climate, you'd never make the money back on them (nor any climate I'd expect).
I'll be in the market at the end of the year, and I tell you it's going to be a tough choice between the Ioniq 5 and the EV6. The Ioniq 5 may just win solely because of the digital teal green pearl color option.
Def the one for me... love it; even the little gap-tooth front. Solar panels on the roof, brill. Like the plain interior design. Thought the elec outlet was going to be inside the car...
The outside reminds me of a more refined Audi 1 or a curvier and longer Proton Savvy. The info screen looks awesome, and the charger flap was the star.

Everyone else watched Johnny's video first too then?
Kinda has a little countach in it to with those funky slats along the sides and back. 🤔
Definitely some Delta vibes! Love it.
The Ioniq5 is an homage to the old Hyundai Pony which was designed by Giugiaro. You probably now the Delta and Golf was designed by him as well so yeah, there actually is some lineage between the three cars
This show is so high quality it actually blows my mind. Those tracking shots through the curves are *chefs kiss*.
I've been following the progression of electric cars for over 20 years now, and this one appeals to me more than any before it.
Previously I have never ever ever been even slightly interested in purchasing an Hyundai.
That has now changed as this is an epic car.
Confession time, I was once an EV naysayer. I'm now a complete convert and absolutely can't wait to buy myself an EV in the future.
It looks like the future and I'm okay with that.
It looks like the future we want and like.
It looks like a futuristic Golf 2 GTI, and I like that.

love how it looks and doubly love the use of interior space. perfect family hauler for me
What a fab car. Looks like a 1970s concept for the future Austin Maestro, but on today's roads looks refreshingly different to all the SUVs. Wonderful! Even the Lego brick lights look cool.
You can tell people are really curious and in demand of info about this car and it's Kia cousin. Ngl, this video has the PERFECT timing!
Agreed! I watched Petrolhead do it the other day and was hoping one of the normal channels I follow would get a shot soon and here it is!
Can't wait to get mine, I was lucky enough to get one of the special launch editions (Project 45) - limited to 3000 for Europe - Hopeful June/July delivery 😊
Lucky you! Enjoy the car 😊
That's really cool...I am happy for you.
What was the cost.?

The government also lowered the price cap for cars eligible for the subsidy from £50,000 to £35,000.

Nice car.
The display is finally large enough for navigation.
Looks like something out of an 80s sci fi anime, and I love it!
Like the Honda crz in the background of Akira!
Amazing car, I really like the design, the cockpit, and all the extras. I didn't tought they can compete. Now they can. I really hope this is going to be a very successful car, because it is cool.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.....Robert, I was critical of your last review but credit where due, this was just sublime...the master at work, well done....the car’s not bad either! Thank you.
It looked so good, more like a CGI representation, as it stood in the driveway, love the pastel blue.
Ioniq 5 vs. EV6
That should be a great comparison test that many are looking forward to.
Both look incredible, while the ev6 is more of a wagon, and is more performance oriented.
I hope they release an n line version of the ioniq 5, in order to actually be able to compete with the ev6 gt. 🤔
An N-line Ioniq 5 estate and I'd be all over it! :)
@@4literv6 I can see that happening. I suspect they're letting Kia have that market to themselves for a bit so it doesn't rob the EV6 of sales.
It's interesting that the Korean twins have the v2l feature.

I am sure that one car has a 3 pin plug at the dashboard, I am not sure, but I believe it's the Honda-e.
"I am not gonna pretent I understand that" :D Lovely!
I don't think I'd trust the person that talked to Robert about its magic inverter motor to change the batteries on a remote control.
The only issues I have is that they have been cheeky and added a tech pack on top of the rather pricey Ultimate trim, which still doesn’t include a vision roof, which I was really excited to be using in the Scottish Highlands on our family trip next year…
Prices were announced in Denmark. 339.000 dkkr/45.000 euro. With 72,6 kwh , heat pump and quite a nice package of equipment.
That is a pretty good price. Here in Malta we can get up to €9,000 in government incentives which would put this at €36,000. If it is priced anywhere near that it will very probably be my next car. Well, either the IONIQ 5 or the KIA EV6. I really like both.
@@ewadge true. It is surprisingly cheap compared to Id4 and enyaq. Hopefully ev6 will follow that trend :)

Hyundais cars are more of the calmer side, while the sister car from Kia, the EV6, is more performance oriented. Like with the palisade and the telluride.
True but Hyundai ioniq 6 will be a ev performance coupe
Have been looking forward to this!
That IS Nice. (Looked like a pretty stunning barn conversion too in the "secret" location). Definitely on my "next car" list.
WTF is going on at Hyundai Genesis & Kia Group. It seems like they are doing magic creating insanely wonderful cars. This is the boldest example.
IKR? It's hard to explain the level of progress Hyundai Motor Company is making these days..

And you can order one with the solar roof in Germany.
Solar roof not terribly beneficial in UK. Vision roof much more useful here.
I was just watching your earlier video about this car only to receive a notification that you’ve uploaded this video. How surreal

But where does one put their coffee, phone, keys, etc?
@@painfulorwhat8872 On the floor? You can get some small boxes and organise everything, it's flat and you can do anything you want.
Yup. Cars here in Oz used to have flat floors when they were column shift. Roomy, and great for late night 'parking'
Yep, Renault have now decided to not bother exporting the Zoe to Aust... Just appalling.
Wing mirrors are standard. Video mirrors are an extra cost option, not available in all countries.
The future of motoring is becoming more clear now. Fantastic car, just fantastic. Great video as always!
It certainly is looking very nice and well thought out. I like the fact the charging port has a bit of character lol
Just love how this looks and the specs that are available, really going to shake the EV world up! I know for me this car and the EV6 really have blown the choices I was looking at for my next EV wide open.
Those side cameras are definitely intended for blind spot checking rather than seeing the curb

I’ll be very interested in a proper, lengthy, test drive/review. I’ll be even more interested in the Kia EV6 as I prefer its look.
Also the EV 6 has more range.
Lovely car, one of the first EVs I've been genuinely interested in! By the way, my 2002 Honda CRV had adjustable rear seats like that, you could slide them fore and aft to get more luggage space. It's something I'm surprised more cars don't offer!
Oh, I'd actually consider getting that
Your technical explanations often violate laws of thermodynamics but we love you anyway.
Not sure about those screens having white backgrounds. If there's no night mode where it darkens, that would really hurt your eyes late at night. Other than that, it looks great.
it does indeed have a night mode although black screens would be favorable
Just seen a German review and their version had black screens even though it was a daytime video. Expect this will be an option in the settings.
You can choose from the settings or put it in auto.
Bit disappointed the screens are surrounded by about 8 miles of plastic. We have been thinning the bevels on screens for so long and they seem to be the largest I've ever seen.
