Theaters are very dumb for not offering a Wonka Ticket deal where you can get a Wonka ticket/candy/drink combo for a good movie theatre price and give some kind of souvenir cup or popcorn bucket
Thats why your not a businessman
it will be even better after you bought the ticket, you have to open and see if that is a golden ticket, if not that ticket is useless. They can make lots money from this lol.
@roywilson4514 That's actually a really good idea. What are you talking about?
Movie theaters make most their money off food and drink so there's almost never deals.
AMC has a Wonka top hat 🎩 not sure if it’s a popcorn box or just a hat lol
I really liked how Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka portrayed a mad genius that is on the verge of going completely psycho. It makes sense that an older Wonka would be a bit more pessimistic about the world and the people in it. Charlie was his last hope in humanity essentially.
Yup that’s why it should not have been remade. The only obvious way to continue it would be to go forward in time or backwards. That’s why I love the snowpiercer theory that it is a continuation into the vast future of the wonka story.
@@blankname6629 They did go backwards. This is not a remake. It's an origin story for the character. There is also debate on whether it's meant only as an origin to the 1971 film, or if they'll continue this Wonkaverse and leave the 1971 film to be its own thing.
The great thing is that regardless of what they do, the 1971 film remains its own thing. So for me, at least, that means an opportunity to see if I enjoy both.
How would it be in the vast future if it explains how he meets the oompa loompas and builds a factory??
Thanks for a honest review was hesitant because I booked this movie as a second choice after kung fu panda 4 was fully booked to take my partner and son to. But your positive review makes me feel like we will have a good time as my son and partner are not looking foward to watching this. 🤦♂️ lol I'm 49 and remember the gene wilder classic but avoided the Johnny Depp version through common sense lol
Nicely said.
The scene in the zoo and the "You've never had chocolate like this" was fantastic!
To bad the movie was terrible first time I went to the cinema after 21years and was really disappointed thanks wonka. Have a collection of over 300 better movies I watched on my own cinema thank fcuk lol. Only went to show the kids a big screen movie and one of them started falling asleep the other one was enjoying all the snacks we had bought for the movie lol
as a child, i actually loved the Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka
I loved eating bugs.
Me too, I thought it was pretty good. Didn't realize people hated it. Maybe it's because I never saw the original.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Roald Dahl wrote a sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where they launch his flying elevator into space and battle aliens.
Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator is real people. Its real.
Gene was king, always was, always will be.
Yeah talk about a movie that never needed a second or remake
70's wonka was carried by gene but I actually liked how unhinged depp was at his portrayal
I know it won't ever happen, but having a sequel to this film where indeed tragedy hits him and turns him into a semi-cynical man would be a great addition to the character arc that is Willy Wonka.
I’d say it’s a great possibility, at least in terms of a sequel coming at some point. The creator had been waiting for Gene to pass, out of respect for him not wanting a prequel/sequel. (Apparently a week or so after Gene did pass, it was announced that this prequel would start being worked on)
That’s what made the original so great! Gene wilder character had a dark underbelly and you never knew what he was going to do like the scene at the end where he breaks down screaming at Charlie and he just become so unhinged that moment really stuck with me as a kid and it was just a very real poignant an interesting moment in a movie for kids
it has a potential for a sequel I love this movie so I would love it to have a sequel
I love the idea that ten or so years later from this films timeline. Wonka is still super trusting but not paying attention and Noodles mom passes. And he doesnt notice and so she gets bitter and is the one who steals from him along with her uncle. It would explain him isolating himself
@@jonporter7709 or maybe even earlier like 3 years later willy is a little older
The 2nd movie came out when I was 15 and still the 1971 movie is my childhood Wonka movie. It's so good
You and my older brother are in the same boat 😂

i was 2 months old when johnny depp version came out
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a masterpiece and the musical score
still holds up to this day.
Facts love that one with Wilder and Depp version I love now too after rewatch
Was it great or were you 8?
@@vidmasterK1 Yes it was great. Keep in mind hes not talking about the johnny depp one
What musical score ? The movie was awesome tho .
If they didn't adres the fact that Wonka factory was in Poland, this movie is automatic failure.
(yes, original story was based on actual company, what "disappear" after WW2)
Got dragged to the premiere by my gf. Not at all into fantasy, let alone musicals but I actually quite enjoyed this film. I thought the songs were cleverly written and never felt forced into the scene. There were some slower parts but it was never really boring. I’d rate it somewhere between a 7 and 8 out of 10.
the marvels bettwr
Exactly what I would rate it
One thing I'll say is everytime they make a Wonka Film it leaves a whole generation with a Cinematic Memory for Life the first 2 films are gems
Yep, I can definitely see kids watching this as their first Willy Wonka movie and have fond memories as they get older about it
You say that like Wonka films are a regular occurrence!
@@ghost_badger75373rd consecutive generation of Wonka films
The Depp version should not have happened
@@vdoggydogg3922 Dahl, himself disliked the original and the Depp version was more in line with Dahl's story.
Wow just wow. I literally just saw it with my girls (4 daughters) and my wife....dang I'm not a musical guy...but this one....that changed that. Amazing movie. It brought memories when I saw willy wonka the chocolate factory as kid with my parents in 2000 on vhs ( all we could afford). And now I have a new memory with my girls with this movie because it shows family, friends, and dreams can become real if you truly believe
I grew up on the Gene Wilder Wonka and Depp Wonka heavily, and I didn’t really expect a whole lot from Wonka. I was excited when I saw it opening night but didn’t know how it would be but my family and I were thrilled to enjoy it as much as we did. I had so much fun watching it and even got chills and teary eyed by the end. I personally enjoyed it a lot. One of my favorite films this year I’ve seen.
Capturing Wilder's magic is impossible as the age of terrifying children's movies ended in the late 80s
Yep. Willy Wonka or Return to Oz would possibly break a lot of modern kids and make them need a therapist. Too fragile.
People seriously underestimated this movie at first when it's clear that the tagline says "From The Director of Paddington". Like bruh, never doubted Paul King at this point. The man knows how to make a solid family entertainment and he was absolutely perfect for this material. After seeing it, I'm glad to say that this is another win for King. Can't wait to see what he does next 🙌
Still haven't seen Paddington 1 or 2
@@maskedman5657Well if you haven't, go watch it ASAP
The trailer looked awful imo
You know, my thoughts exactly, the Paddington movies are solid family movies. You can't really fault them.
Looks boring. The original all the way.
1970 is superior and the 2005 one is my nostalgia!
Funny. My eldest son did Willy wonka play in the broadway jrs program this year. He got the mike teavee role and when rehearsing and such they took his prop toy gun from him and told him finger blast instead, when asked why since it’s just a toy prop for fun they just shrugged saying it was universal decision so all mike roles in the various programs can’t use it….. idk we thought it was dumb, has to be some dumb reason of todays things but thought funny thing to share.
Alex holding up the wallet as they are about to transition to spoilers has me giggling 🤣
the tim burton remake had the stamp of approval from road dahl's direct family. And it was far more authentic to the novel than the original movie. Its not terrible, its worth a watch.
Yeah i really love that version with Depp did an amazing job i think its quite good
i remembered not liking it when i saw it the first time, rewatched it last year and was pleasantly surprised i liked it a lot more. is a good time
Nah the movie is terrible lol.
@@VirtuaSavageNo it wasn’t
It getting The Dahl estate approval doesn't make it a great film, it's very flawed in a lot of ways, but it is more authentic.
Grandpa Joe is the true villain.
Grandpa Joe is like reality grabbing at magic or whimsy's heel, desperately trying not to let it slip out like a firefly from a jar. He is a man who was trapped in a bed for twenty years and who, in his moment of weakness, gives in to his dream to fly. He also highlights part of the reason for his family's poverty: shortsightedness. He is so eager to try and steal a moment of joy for himself that not only does he nearly get himself killed in that scene (along with Charlie), he also encourages Charlie to betray Wonka at the end of the movie.
However, it's also important to recognize that without that dark moment, where Charlie is facing ultimate despair and does the right thing without any guarantee of reward or payment--which was only possible because of grandpa Joe's actions--Wonka may not have been able to truly tell whether Charlie was worthy to be his successor.
Hey Joe! I also don't like musicals. However! I'm here to recommend must-watches even for people like us:
West Side Story (1961)
Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)
Hair (1979)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
These are incredible movies with also incredible music. You probably have seen them already, but hey worth a shot.
Honorable mention to The Blues Brothers (1980) even though I'm not sure it can be classified as a full-on musical.
Great idea for a stocking stuckers! Thanks Alex!!! big ups from the east coast bros, love your videos and try to watch them as soon as they come out! Keep crushin it amigos!
This is Wonka before he became dark and creepy.
he’s not dark and creepy in Gene Wilders version. He’s borderline terrifying and physcotic in Charlie and CF
@@themanstan0785he is dark and creepy, you just gotta actually watch him
Chalamet just straight up does not have the right charisma and eccentricities for the part, period. I don't care if Gene's Wonka was supposed to be a toddler and Chalermat was 4, he just doesn't have that sort of persona. Acting can only take you so far. Some gifts have to be natural.
I usually agree with Joe on a lot of things, but I hate that he's saying the Charlie and the chocolate factory movie was bad.
I absolutely disagree, i still enjoy that movie
To be fair, Joe is kinda trashed in this video. Like, legit wasted.
I took my nieces and we all loved it. Definitely not a standout film but a very enjoyable film that made me smile throughout.
damn, really liked the Jhonny Depp's ver. cause it closer to the books compared to the 1970's, im surprised AJ didn't like it

You HAVE to see the new Studio Ghibli film, it’s a fucking masterpiece.
It was gorgeous, but a tad bit tedious tho.
I saw wouldn't say a masterpiece me and my friend group did double feature of Wonka and that and we all preferred Wonka
9:25 Johnny Depp was trying to act like Carol Burnett.
So funny how a little bit of Joe dies inside when Alex is giving a good point
How did you people didn't like Charlie and the Chocolate factory? It is much close to the book for same reason you trashed Witcher season 3 because it was not close to the books.
I’ve seen many people being very skeptical about this movie, and so that kinda led me to prepare the movie to be bad. But honestly, I felt myself smiling throughout the movie, and although some jokes didn’t exactly make me laugh, other jokes made me chuckle and breathe through my nostrils. The movie greatly explained Wonka’s backstory and showed foreshadowing that regards to the first movie. This was a charming movie. People should definitely watch it with their families, and all and all I rate it a 7.5/10 :)
I've actually never heard anyone say that they hated the Tim Burton Wonka film before
Nobody mentioned how it mirrored 'Scarface'. Immigrant comes in starts running a business with superior product. He refuses to hurt children. He gets in trouble with a cartel. Just substitute cocaine with chocolate and 80's music for showtunes and they're practically the same movie.
Wild to me that there’s still so much hate for Depp’s Wonka
Johnny Depp is good at many things but a convincing chocolatier is not one of them
Because the original is way better in everyway. And holds uo very well for an early 70s movie
@@lalotimethe author (Roald Dehl) would disagree
Johnny’s Wonka is goated
Having Johnny Depp do a MJ impression was maybe a fun idea for a SNL skit, but I can't handle a feature length film of it.
The original is the best
I love how people forget the ending and the whole point of the original WIlly Wonka. Wonka was testing kids and acting like an evil angry sociopath to try and find the one pure and kind kid who wouldn't betray anyone and in the end he literally asked for forgivness for putting Charlie through everything. Wonka showed his true self only after Charlie gave him the Gobstopper, when he smiled and hugged Charlie and was happy caring and loving, why else would Wonka want a nice kid who's pure in heart if not because he's like that himself.
I can definitely see this movie setting up the three chocolatiers he won against getting back at him by sending in spies to steal recipes down the line. That Wonka started out like this, but over the years of having his stuff stolen and being unable to trust anyone eventually he turned into the more sarcastic darker man we see in the original. I can definitely see that being what ultimately happens. Wonka legit just became tired of having his kindness thrown back in his face. He ended up reclusive and more distrustful in what others say or do.
The old one was a great movie
Wonka was great, feels destined to be a yearly classic. Enjoyed every minute. The only reason the new songs don’t feel like the old ones is they’re brand new. Let them work their way into culture the way songs from Sound of Music or Lion King did. That’s how songs become classics - time
I mean and theyre good 😊
Well, there's a wild difference in quality to these songs. I loved 'A hatful of dreams' but songs like 'Scrub Scrub' were kind of cringe.
@@Adultguj fair. But then Oompa Loompa doopedie doo has got to be the cringiest cringe of all cringe but we’ve all embraced it anyway

I actually thought Charlie and the chocolate factory was a pretty good movie, I don’t really understand the hate for it.
Kids generally like it, but the original is still better in a lot of respects. The music in the original is iconic, for example. The remake ones are mostly forgettable.
There does seem to be more of an appreciation for the remake judging from these comments saying they preferred it, though.
The original is way better. As a movie and atmosphere. Everything about that film was done perfectly

I enjoy it as well. I still love the Gene Wilder one a lot more. But the Johnny one is still something I'll go back and watch. Just not as much as the Gene Wilder version.
There's a rotten tomatoes review that said "There's some weird choices like fat suits" .... What the heck kind of criticism is that LOL

Different generation, every older generation hates the new version of the thing they grew up with
This Wonka movie is. Between a 7 or an 8 for me because when he says hold up reverse it, was the same line jean wilder Wonka said and when I saw slugworth I'm reminded of Charlie's grandpa mentioning slugworth, pure imagination made me tear up and what Wonka did for noodle and the others made me happy also when Wonka opened open his mother's chocolate and sees a golden ticket I said to myself so that's how he came up with that idea. What I didn't like was the fact that there's only one oompa loompa seriously I thought at the end when Wonka was making his factory there would be one last montage where Wonka with lofty will go back to loompaland apologize and hire all of them and pay them back for taking their cocoa beans leading up to seeing Charlie.
It's close. The line from the original was "Strike that, reverse it." But I liked how it was nodding to the original but speaking in a more modern language at the same time.
Also Lofty says “Good day sir…. I said good day” two different times in this movie, which is what Wonka says in the original during the scene towards the end where he yells at Charlie
for me it's 10/10
this movie should of just had one villian in it known as slugworth however still good a movie

Damn i didint know about this movie, what next? Timothée as edward scisor hands
Just witnessed Wonka 2023, a cinematic gem! Timothée Chalamet's Willy Wonka not only pays homage to Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder's iconic portrayals but brings a fresh perspective. The film masterfully balances dialogue and musical elements.
Original songs from OG films were thoughtfully integrated, avoiding overuse. Standout moments include the well-placed Oompa Loompa and World of Imagination songs, featuring an unforgettable orchestral rendition. Chalamet's portrayal showcases remarkable character development and connection with other characters.
The trio of villains, portrayed by Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, and Mathew Baynton, adds richness to the narrative. Paterson's Slugworth steals scenes with a charismatic and comical performance.
Wonka 2023 has secured its place in my top three for 2023. A must-watch for surprises, great characters, and Chalamet's outstanding performance paying homage to the classics! I give it an 8.5 out of 10
Also what made me laugh was when the police chef got out of the car and was so fat he reminded me of the mayor from cloudy with a chance of meatballs when he ate all that food and you hear one citizen say man that one big mayor.

Why are we shitting all over "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory"? It's a better film.
"Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory" is an iconic cult classic (one that I also enjoy) but it was a financial flop that everyone, including the original writer, hated. He hated it so much that adaptations to any of his works were banned until his death. After he died the 2nd film was made and his family said that he would've loved it.
Both films were products of their times, but only one disappointed not only audiences but it's own writer. Everyone only knows about the first film because they ran it for free on TV because it was always meant to be nothing more than a giant advertisement that steered so far from the source material it could be considered its own thing.
fun fact: The Gene Wilder film was just an advertisement and didnt follow the source material at all. The creator of the book hated it so much he never let anyone make another film with his work. When he died his family let another studio have a shot at it. It was really accurate to the book and his family said he would have loved charlie and the chocolate factory as it was faithful to his work.
I like the Burton version more than the Gene Wilder one, it's much more faithful to the books...

We need more villians that are like Judge Claude Frollo. The best villian to ever exist.
They barely got him in the movie because conservatives cried about him portraying religion and the church as evil.
@@vidmasterK1 I don't believe that's just a conservatie only thing. Honestly, you just look at the past history of churches they've done worse things than what Frollo has done. Anyway, I still wish there were more Frollo's. Makes the story more interesting.
I grew up with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and though it isn't as good as the original film, it's also trying to do something completely different than the Gene Wilder film. It goes out of its way to adapt more stuff from the original book, most notably the Oompa Loompa songs which are awesome imo. Johnny Depp was a little freaky in his potrayal but I guess that was just some bad direction of Tim Burton's part.
What Alex missed is this: from the FIRST song, we see the movie is literally showing that Wonka is daydreaming the fantastical Broadway show aspects and scenes we see throughout the film. Its to show that whether its zany or too out there, we're left with the notion that he might be daydreaming again, but as the audience we are just being entertained and only seeing this side of Wonka. It was a genius move by the director to di this and im seeing many negative reviews missing out on that. This was a great film, better than Depps (although its great in its own genre as wacky and unique), but not better than Wilder's. This is easily an 8 or 9
Why do u “movie fans” have to dissect every little thing about a movie. Maybe you just didnt get it…
Movie was good.
I’m also at a 7 out of 10.
It falls into the must watch area.
I'm genuinely surprised it is reviewing well. I was expecting a dumpster fire, I'll check it out on streaming some day,
As someones whos never seen the original(fully, ofc i knew some songs) and nostalgia not playing any role in my judgement, I loved Wonka.
The original Willy wonka is timeless classic, the Johnny depp version is a horror fever dream, and this version looks like corporate content.
Tim Burton's Wonka movie was actually more accurate to the book and even got approved by the Dahl Estate as the story they greatly prefer. Personally, I only liked the 70s movie because of Gene Wilder's charm; the rest really wasn't that great and the Oompa Loompa music was the same song played over and over again. In contrast, the Burton movie's Oompa Loompa music dared to make memorable & distinct songs for each kid's demise, and had far better set design to represent the different whimsical factory rooms. And Sir Christopher Lee was an absolute treasure.
Don't tell them that. To them Witcher is bad because it didn't follow books or Rings of Power but Willy Wonka is best. It is called hypocrisy.
The thing is though that the same Umpa Lumpa song is far more memorable than any of the umpa lumpa songs in the sequel in my opinion. The other songs throughout the Gene Wilder original are also all distinct and a lot better than the Depp remake which are forgettable for the most part. I remember those original songs including Gene wilder singing. I think I remember 1 from the remake. They are very poor.
Yes Gene Wilder was fantastic and much better than Depp - he steals the scenes in a way Wonka should. The set designs are naturally better and should be for a more modern show. I still found the demise of the kids better in the original and far more creative. I also didn’t need the Wonka origin story.
Having said all that, my kids loved the Depp version and that’s who it’s made for, I guess. I think the original could be enjoyed more by both adults and kids.
@@artimuos903 I'm telling them that anyway. And no, it's not hypocritical for everyone who hates those adaptations. You oversimplify it. You're neglecting writing quality and internal consistency that Netflix Witcher & Rings of Power both lack. I find that Burton's Wonka has both high quality and high faithfulness, with a pretty compelling narrative of a sad child who wanted to live out his dreams in spite of his strict dentist father... who actually loved him all along at the end. Change in itself is not bad; the thing that is different must be good or better than the original.
@@makasete30 I remember all the songs from 2005 and the 1971 tune! Both can be good !

Paddington 2 is Incredible
Any Roald Dahl adaptation should be a little dark, his stories aren’t all sunshine and rainbows.
they made ANOTHER Wonka movie?
Hollywood is creativly bankrupt......
Just like the AAA game industry.
I don’t care what anybody says, Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was hilarious.
Do y’all only do movies now? I feel like it’s be a fat minute since y’all have done came reviews
If I wanted to watch a Willy Wonka film, I’d still go back and watch the original 1971 film.
This is one of the times where i disagree with joe, I really loved the jhonny deep willy wonka!!!
Johnny's version is my fav hands down, Prefer the dark tone
Angry Joe, the movie channel, because gaming reviews is like 5 years a part 🫳🏻🎤
I fudging loved it, deff a strong 8/10 from me!
I loved the Johnny Depp movie. I think his Willy Wonka had great character and the story of the movie was very fitting.
I’ve watched the original probably 30 times in my life. I never knew it was a musical.
Yea, I wouldnt even call it a musical. I feel like it’s just a weird amusement park where they sing. Its not like charlie sings at his house (i think)
@pearlsoprano287 no his family do tho 😊 i would say it most definitely is a musical tho
