Snokes over confidence was his weakness. Too busy bragging on himself in those last moments rather than focusing on what was going on around him, or in Kylo.
Are we sure this wasn't planned tho? I mean I chalked it up to overconfidence but it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that he meant for all this to happen and he comes back in 9 but who really knows(I mean if he is Darth Plageius he survived death once already). I liked this movie a lot but the failed continuation of story from episode 7 stopped it from being my favorite movie of the year.(Aside form Rey having 0 important parents thank god that cliche wasnt used)
Travis Bellant it makes no sense. Jakku happened to be were the sixth artifacts were and where it was so important to the empire it was the last stand before they fell. She has the staff which by now I hope everyone realizes SHOULD belong to plageuis. That can’t be a accident. She’s not just a average force user she’s very strong with no training. She should be more important than that. Lucas had plageuis plans. J.J. started it but changes some details. Laid out a great film and a good launching off point to made a great trilogy. And .... rian just didn’t give us anything after it. He really didn’t.

Another thing... They should have NOT introduced Admiral Holdo, and instead used Admiral ACKBAR. He would have had more authority from the perspective of the audience, making Poe's mutiny more questionable, AND when he piloted the ship into the Imperial fleet, it would have been a badass death for a well known character, and it would have had more impact on the fans because he's a character we all KNOW.
I can't imagine how epic would it have been when the First Order finally realized that the "abandoned ship", piloted by Admiral Ackbar, is going to ram their ship and the last words of the First Order's admiral: IT'S A TRAP!
The thing with Han... Luke is in his hut ignoring Rey and there's a knock on the door. He says, "Go away," and the door blows off the hinges and Chewie bursts in and gives Luke a furious roar... I mean Chewie was ANGRY! Luke recoils in shock and tries to talk to Chewie, and then asks, "Where's Han?"... and the scene ends. We needed to see Luke's reaction to the news that Han is dead... especially since it was at Kylo Ren's hands (another layers to Luke's failure). Since the death of Han, the only original character we saw react to it was Chewie. Leia's reaction in The Force Awakens was ambiguous. Was she reacting to Han's death or Kylo Ren's fall into darkness? Now we get Luke, and they skip right past the moment. Very disappointing.
Well we don't know. He said "Where's Han," and they cut to another scene without him being told. We didn't see his reaction. Seeing emotion in our characters is what makes them relatable. That's the DRAMA in the scene. This movie missed that and just skipped on to the next scene. Gotta get back to the ACTION, right?
Adrian Castro empire strikes back had the same type of reaction and was divisive. Give it a few years. We'll see whether it'll last in a good or bad way.

It's heavily implied that Darth Plageis and Palpatine forced life into Anakin's mom to force her to give birth to a highly force sensitive boy. The force shouldn't "balance itself out", it is a flowing living force that flows through all things but it doesn't take a direct action in the universe. It is simply utilized and manipulated by force sensitives.
Maybe not, but these new movies ruin the original Skywalker saga. Anakin was born of and created by the living force, his children were his heir to carry on his destiny. Rey's story implies that anybody can be an ultimate jedi no matter who they are born from, the force doesn't even have to be in the mix. Kylo doesn't even care about his Vader background anymore.

Timothy-John Luke was about to kill his own nefew because he had the potential to turn to the dark side. When In return of the Jedi Luke refused to kill Darth Vader who was 20times more evil than kylo could ever be. They made Luke look like a giant sore loser in the last jedi.
The fundamental issues have never been resolved: who started the First Order? How do they have 100x more resources, ships and technology than the Republic or even the Empire ever had? How did Snoke know the dark side? How do people know how to use the Force without training, when every other movie says you need extensive training, even for Anakin who had a midichlorian level higher than Charlie Sheen's blood alcohol level?

Not true, what I think he is asking is how is someone trained in the force beaten by someone NOT trained? It goes against established lore. To use the Force to the degree seen in TFA between Rey & Kylo is bullshit - that is against established Lore regardless of how powerful one is in the Force. Now with Leia, they may be unknowingly using the force, it was the same with Anakin when he was a kid. He was using it without knowing. Same with Leia. Anything beyond that, like Rey vs Kylo in TFA? What he said was that when he FIRST read the script for Luke with the line "It's time for the Jedi to end" was something he didn't agree with at first and was surprised to see how the most hopeful and optimistic character turned this way but as he went on, he understood and liked it and saw what Rian was going for. Here is a list of ALL the things wrong: Leia flying through space. Ackbar not being the one to lightspeed into the Dreadnought. Leia not being the one to lightspeed into the Dreadnought. Rey not demanding her THIRD lesson. The Porgs are now starving on the Falcon, because they were removed from their ecosystem. Chewy eating them is a mercy. Ben Swolo's pants were pulled up to high. Poe used lightspeed to close the distance, entering the Dreadnought shield to fast for it to repel it. (They forgot to mention it, or I'm filling their plot holes for them idk) Slow Chase: Destroyers didn't lightspeed to positions to cut them off. Rey being a Jedi Master without training and little knowledge of the Force. DJ's stutter was terribly unrealisitic. The Casino Arc. The ENTIRE thing. Rose catching up to Finn and almost KILLING him. Then stupidly talking about "we should save what we love" despite Finn having been trying exactly that while the Door is busted open. Luke just giving up on life and dying. The Lightspeed-Crash destroyed ALL escort ships, despite not hitting them. Luke throwing away the Lightsabre. Luke milking that weird tit monster. Luke using the blue lightsabre. Luke projecting the golden dice he gives to Leia throughout the fight and even posthumously. Somehow. Chewy not eating that yummy Porg after its friend begs to eat some of it. Phasma not being used better. That weird opera singer on Casino Bait. Rey's parents being junkers. Nobody is that fucking powerful without training to NOT be Skywalker or Medichlorian lovechild or both. Snoke being killed (his moments were otherwise decent). The Pretorian Guard sucking hard. Rey being utterly naive. Maybe I just don't connect with her and that's why I perceive her that way. We're not even seen what she sees in Kylo's future, but it was somehow life-changing for her. General hux being a joke that is mocked and thrown around all the time. Yoda looked weird at first, no Idea why. (Lightning strike was cool though. but still raises eye-brows) Luke not having married Mara Jade and mourning her loss. (Sure that Jedi Academy Scene might have turned Ben, but Hamill's backstory was clearly more effective) That was supposed to be the ENTIRE fleet of the First Order? How is the Galaxy terrified of that? Those were less than 10 Destroyers and a Dreadnought, the Endor DS escort was greater by dozens and that was considered a "small fleet" in comparison to the entirity. that girl who stayed on the rebel ship..she just waited for several of the rebel's escapees to be blown up before taking action. at the moment that she saw some of the rebel ship being blown up she could acted right away by using that big ass ship as a body shield for the escapees or did what she did right away(lightspeed jump to the enemy)
Erik Münso in reply to your first one. She is not flying she is using the force. There has to be new things to explore and discover within the force otherwise it will end being not as intriguing for later sequels. I think it was quite a good choice.
The Finn and Rose bit was a thinly veiled waste of time. If the purple haired lady just told everybody about the plan (you know, about going to the fucking salt planet) then: they wouldn’t need a code breaker, Finn and Rose never would have been ambushed, and the rebel transport ships wouldn’t have been detected while fleeing to the salt planet. Clearly the writers missed marks, although I would love to see a pepper planet in episode 9.
Dastardly Debonair - you are right. The whole Finn/Rose/Poe story arc may have shown more of character development but the story themselves are pretty stupid. Apparently all the leaders knew about the old rebel base but they witheld it from their subordinates. Poe's mutiny would have never happened and he would not agreed to Finn's plan to go to find the code breaker.

Just how big is their military and why didn’t the republic deal with them sooner. And luke dies... leía lost both Luke and Han in the same week...
That's not really true considering hyperspace travel takes days and weeks, even if it's not shown in the movies. There's nothing that suggest it didn't take much much longer than 5-7 days. Even the OT takes something like 4 years, but it looks much faster, because the plot doesn't make it obvious.

If it did then Wouldn’t the x wings take days to reach star killer base which by that point the base would’ve destroyed the leía, the resistance and the planet they were on? In Rogue one darth Vader’s fleet immediately showed up to deal with the rebels so does that mean they can predict the future since it would have taken days to get there and if they can they why didn’t they see the attach coming? I could go on but never in the canon has it states that hyperspace takes days.
KnightHawk Films I thought the thing with Rey was great. It pretty much said you don’t need to have some amazing family lineage to be somebody. Rey is a nobody, but she doesn’t need to be the daughter of Luke or Obi Wan to become somebody. Everybody was trying to have some stupid fan theories and I’m glad they were all wrong. If Rey was luke’s daughter... would it really be good? Everyone would have been expecting it.
Rey's parents were junkies, so they are not the reason why she is so powerful...that doesn't mean there is no explanation for it, it's probably a big secret and are saving it for the end

Im saying that in the sense that Luke didn't do much, he never left the island even, a bunch of stuff didn't get answered or come up. He killed off people who were surrounded in so much mystery and importance making them useless from TFA. We got a long one sided space chase, super Leia, and a half assed also one sided love thing where they sneak on a ship for the millionth time in Star Wars history.

Are you listening Disney? 1 - Remove canto bite casino scene. 2- when Leia is ejected into space, she dies, let her float away in peace. 3 - Snoke is not killed but, he runs away when ray and kylo team up and start fighting his guards. 4 - after luke finishes his astral projection fight with kylo, he looks at the twin suns from his island but, doesn't die. 5 - admiral akbar is the one who sacrifices himself and flys the rebellion ship at light speed into first order ships, Not a random woman character that nobody cares about.

TentaclePentacle well in Star Wars history they did use WW2 props for the movies. It doesn’t make sense for the bomber to be used in space but it does explain the link with Star Wars history.

Maybe the bombs are propelled by microscopic thrusters we can't see, essentially making them like slow missiles but just acting like bombs. Its sci fi, use your imagination
I was actually disappointed that Rey didn't join the dark side. I was really expecting it to go that way. This movie had a lot of potential for some very interesting twists and it really dropped the ball for me.
Then you don't understand the politics of Hollywood. They would never have the first female lead become evil. They couldn't even make the dark side tempting to her. She's perfect and incorruptible.

One thing I didn’t like in the film was Rose’s hypocrisy. At the beginning of the film she calls out Finn for being selfish in wanting to abandon the Resistance for his own reasons, but later she jeopardize the lives of the last survivors by saving Finn because she’s starstruck.
NJ Peterson Finn was LITERALLY “protecting the one he loves.” At the start of the film and she tazed him for cheap laughs and then accused him of desertion from an army he never even joined!
His actions aren't because he's star struck, it's more out of concern. In Force Awaken's he does offer Rey to run away with him but after she declines he accepts it and leaves then returns and lies to to get on Starkiller base to save her and destroy the base (Rose, save Finn kill the Resistance). Last Jedi, Finn tries to runaway because he is concerned for Rey then says fuck it lets go destroy the dreadnought, after he finds out about her whereabouts
This movie did not feel like star wars at all to. There were so many face palm moments. All the animal bull, Massive plot holes, bad jokes, and a marry poppins Leia. Production was good, but it kind of had to be. In my humble opinion, it was a steaming pile.
Animals in the star wars universe actually have a big connection to the force. They don't cover it in the movies but in Star Wars the Clone Wars and Star Wars rebels you see that aspect of it

Same reason they don't use force choke (with some exceptions) as the Jedi didn't believe in killing their enemies. Supposedly, the lightning could cause serious harm to the user as well as the opponent.
Mac Campbell No problem. A lot of the powers the Sith used were banned by Jedi for being too inhuman, or too dangerous to be used. That's including some lightsaber techniques. For example, in a Star Wars book I read, there was a joke were a Jedi attempted a technique he read about in the Jedi archives, and ended up breaking his arm.
Mac Campbell Thats why the Force in this movie makes no sense. The force wasn't Dark or Light, it was defined by the person who used it. The Jedi and Sith were extremists seeing the force as dark and light. But, there was a faction of Jedi called "Gray Jedi" who saw it as their mission to keep the force in balance utilizing both light and dark powers. They believed that the force was not black or white, thus the name. For example, Qui Gon Jin was considered a gray Jedi because of his radical views on the force, but he didn't use dark side powers. Now, in thus new movie, the force is Dark rises to meet Light. So the stronger Kylo gets, Rey will get the same power for free, rather than have to actually train and hone her force ability.

Rian Johnson made Luke, the guy who was so against killing his father (despite both his masters telling him to do so) cause he was family and had a conflict within him, had no problem considering murdering his own nephew in his sleep caused he sensed a "dark" future....what the fuck. It pisses me off cause The Last Jedi even steals a scene from ROTJ with Rey in cuffs, telling Kylo that she feels a conflict within him and to let go of his hate. The same way Luke told vader when he was in cuffs. Disney is just trying too hard to make Rey the new Luke Skywalker, having her become so powerful with no training what so ever and having her tell Luke not to give up on Ben when he should know better. Even Snoke was confused telling Kylo "You were beaten by a girl who never held a lightsaber". Like c'mon Lucasfilm, I know you want a strong female protagonist but have her make sense and feel relatable.

From the trailers I expected this film to be about Rey initially being trained by Luke to fight The First Order and eventually turning over to the Dark Side because Luke's own insecurities and depression about his failures, and her being manipulated by Snoke. Then Kylo Ren killing his mother and expecting to be rewarded by Snoke but is instead discarded once Snoke turns Rey into his new apprentice so turns back to the Light Side... I would have also had Snoke's guards turn out to be The Knights of Ren but also the remaining living ex-students of Luke Skywalker and also Rey would find out she's the younger sister of Kylo Ren. And during all this, I would have had The First Order destroying the rest of the Resistance... That is what I would have done. This film is bad storytelling, end of... I had that thought, it most likely would be because of fan outrage, not because they've written it in advance, but who knows? It just seems like a very bold move to make. I know it couldn't have been this projection bs because Snoke was physically cut in half, rather I thought it may have been a clone, or Snoke using his amazing force power to control this clone from elsewhere in the galaxy. Joe, when it shows the temple burning, Luke says how Ren took a few of his students with him when he left. Those are most definitely going to be the Knights of Ren? It is something mentioned but never followed up on in the movie.

I'm a big fan of the EU Luke. However movies have to face a different reality. Mark hamil is not gonna be around forever. So I like how they handled this version as a troubled hero. It gives Mark a chance to explore the character and give him actual growth in the time given. As far as the final scene where he became on with the force I'm torne. I was amazed at the power he displayed tricking the first order. I honestly didn't want to see Luke get the treatment Yoda got in the prequels. The movie had a lot of problems but Luke was the strongest part of this movie.
if you payed attention in the scene where rey and kylo force bonded, rey was in the rain and kylo got wet, not to mention when they had physical contact. so it was obvious that there is physical elements to it too. he got sliced and blown up in his illusion so it would have taken its toll...
Joshua Howell - because the force users became super heroes. No hard work, no honing of their abilities, learning new tricks. Just like superheroes have them from the start. On top of that, everything about the force is changed and how force skills work. Lightsabers will be gone too eventually. Star Wars is about story telling most and for all. About exploration and excitement. Ep VII and VIII reuse Tatooine, Endor and Hoth. The prequels had Coruscant, Naboo, Mustafar... The OT and PT introduced numerous new aliens that also actually did something in the film. There is no issue with losing some of the elements as long as it isn't the majority. It feels like the diversity has been diminished to only human diveristy. No planets with impact have been introduced (same scene on hoth like planet). Too much fanservice and repeating old formulas are actually counter productive for Star Wars because Star Wars is about new locations, new races, new challenges, story telling, ... A movie isn't a Star Wars movie just because R2-D2 is in it.
I loved that kylo "took the throne" so to speak. And he actually had a point when he said, forget the sith forget the jedi forget the resistance, let the past die as he said, lets work together and make a better galaxy, without any of that. So i kinda agree with him a bit here.

My biggest problem with Rey being basically nobody is that it makes the force awakens ending even worse. if she is nobody how the hell can she take on Kylo Ren who has all this training from Luke and Snoke. If she was part of the skywalker family tree or literally anybody who was force sensitive I would be fine with it but she's not so it's pure bullshit

The same with Phasma, after Snoke's death and Kylo becoming the new Supreme Leader they could have made her his new henchman, but no, they had to kill her off, wasting some really great potential for a story line. The way this movie/trilogy completely makes all the events of the past movies seem pointless offends me as a Star Wars fan. Like what was the point of the Skywalker family arc if the Emperor is supposedly still around and Anakin’s son Luke was gonna die in an anticlimactic manner fighting a war that is just the original repeated. The fact these movies occur in the same rehashed conflict just cheapens the original trilogy and everything the Skywalkers went through. It’s very clear Disney wanted to make a new trilogy with the old actors and plot line purely because it draws tons of money but didn’t have the consideration to respectfully handle this continuity.
I felt conflicted right after Disney bought it. Then they cancelled they effectively erased canon and therefore the EU and I wasn't conflicted anymore. It's shite. Then they fucking cancelled TCW. Not only was I not conflicted, I had joined the Dark Side at that point. Fucking furious. Then they replaced it with what was basically a war crime and a violation of basic human rights - "Rebels". The amount of conflict I felt within me was so minute it was comparable to a tardigrade (as in very small and yet very sturdy) because I knew exactly what I felt - dissatisfactionand disappointment ). Then TFA came out, and it was utter plagiarized garbage. Now at this point the amount of conflict in my system was so incredibly small it could've formed a blackhole and ripped apart and swallows the entire solar system (which is a scenario far preferable to real life where all this crap happened). Now with TLJ, I am conflicted again - but not in the way you think. TLJ is a terrible Star Wars movie, once again we're let down as they crush, destroy, and milk the franchise we love for all it's got. So no I'm conflicted between hatred and apathy. It's like a parabola, first love for Star Wars, then hate for what the the Mouse did to it, and now I'm on the other side basically not going to give a shit about any new Star Wars media anymore. I'm done, I don't know if I even care anymore, like I obviously do but holy shit this crap is terrible... Edit: let me clarify, I still love Star Wars and yes the Prequels were also bad - but surprisingly not as bad as this world-destroying horseshit of a trilogy and everything - Prequels instead were world-building and as such awesome. At the VERY least the Prequels had that going for them. World-building and originality - and most of the characters in the Prequels were then redeemed in the show. The sequels have nothing, nada going for them. It's fanfiction trash. But I still love Star Wars, just not new canon stuff.

With this in mind, one way they could have killed off Snoke was if these Praetorians betray him in the end. Then its revealed they are the Knights of Ren, loyal ultmately to Kylo Ren and securing his ascension as the new Supreme Leader. But apparently Disney thinks that ancient Roman history is too boring for kids.

Bryce Williams I actually think they did mention the Knights of Ren, however it was extremely brief. The scene where Luke's temple was burning I believe Luke said that after Ben turned he killed the force users who resisted him in the temple and those who joined Ben became the Knights of Ren. Again it is extremely brief, it almost seems like Disney/Johnson want you to forget about it this group entirely.

Wow lets totally forget about all the established Star Wars universe rules. The movie is full of plot holes, is sloppy, slow, and tiresome film making. They choose to conveniently forget about tractor beams, have force ghosts able to influence the physical realm, portray Luke as a bitter "old man", ruin Rey, make her a pointless passive protagonist, relegate Chewy to basically function as a glorified Uber driver for Rey, introduce a character like Rose that has less charisma than my big toe. I mean come on calling a guy DJ? Also the Harry Potter-esque Canto Bight scene with CGI small aliens and human faced dog horses that serve no purpose but to try prove a point about animal cruelty? Spend time developing the Star Wars saga mate. Oh and the not so funny jokes that ruin the flow. Good job Rian.

Isn't there. Snoke knew Kylo was going to kill him. The final test of a dark side apprentice is to kill their master and take their place, that is how the dark side continues to grow stronger, every generation must find a way to surpass the previous. That is exactly what Kylo does, it's what Snoke wants him to do. By killing Snoke, Kylo becomes a master of the dark side, that is something that Anakin/Vader could never do. Notice how Snoke scolds Kylo in the beginning of the film, but just when Kylo is going to kill Snoke, Snoke starts to compliment Kylo, stating "I can not be beaten, I can not be betrayed". And his words ring true, When Kylo kills Snoke, Snoke wins. His legacy is cemented, his apprentice takes his place.

He was suppose to kill Rey, even a jedi kills for the greater good, plus if Snoke ever wanted his apprentice to kill him then he intended to, he seemed shocked when he killed him during his monologuing. Snokes character completely surpassed palpatine, even palpatine has his own spinoffs and sequels. Snoke just poofed, Gone. Lack of interesting feats and backstory of how he found Kylo(Ben Solo) or trained kylo like he mentioned at the end of Ep.7. But either way your theory seemed understanding and meaningful because that is how the Dark side seeds back into every series...If only they extended Snokes character development. then it would sound promising. plus many other channels made theories that builds up before Episode 7. So your theory might fall flat because directors change midway through a trilogy...Its motivation for the ninth film is pretty much screwed...hopefully that's not the case.

Another thing... They should have NOT introduced Admiral Holdo, and instead used Admiral ACKBAR. He would have had more authority from the perspective of the audience, making Poe's mutiny more questionable, AND when he piloted the ship into the Imperial fleet, it would have been a badass death for a well known character, and it would have had more impact on the fans because he's a character we all KNOW.

The thing with Han... Luke is in his hut ignoring Rey and there's a knock on the door. He says, "Go away," and the door blows off the hinges and Chewie bursts in and gives Luke a furious roar... I mean Chewie was ANGRY! Luke recoils in shock and tries to talk to Chewie, and then asks, "Where's Han?"... and the scene ends. We needed to see Luke's reaction to the news that Han is dead... especially since it was at Kylo Ren's hands (another layers to Luke's failure). Since the death of Han, the only original character we saw react to it was Chewie. Leia's reaction in The Force Awakens was ambiguous. Was she reacting to Han's death or Kylo Ren's fall into darkness? Now we get Luke, and they skip right past the moment.

That's the DRAMA in the scene. This movie missed that and just skipped on to the next scene. Gotta get back to the ACTION, right?

It's heavily implied that Darth Plageis and Palpatine forced life into Anakin's mom to force her to give birth to a highly force sensitive boy. The force shouldn't "balance itself out", it is a flowing living force that flows through all things but it doesn't take a direct action in the universe. It is simply utilized and manipulated by force sensitives.

Maybe not, but these new movies ruin the original Skywalker saga. Anakin was born of and created by the living force, his children were his heir to carry on his destiny. Rey's story implies that anybody can be an ultimate jedi no matter who they are born from, the force doesn't even have to be in the mix. Kylo doesn't even care about his Vader background anymore.

The fundamental issues have never been resolved: who started the First Order? How do they have 100x more resources, ships and technology than the Republic or even the Empire ever had? The Finn and Rose bit was a thinly veiled waste of time. If the purple haired lady just told everybody about the plan (you know, about going to the fucking salt planet) then: they wouldn’t need a code breaker, Finn and Rose never would have been ambushed, and the rebel transport ships wouldn’t have been detected while fleeing to the salt planet. Clearly the writers missed marks, although I would love to see a pepper planet in episode 9.
All of the purple lady's scenes should have been given to Admiral Ackbar instead.
Dastardly Debonair - you are right. The whole Finn/Rose/Poe story arc may have shown more of character development but the story themselves are pretty stupid. Apparently all the leaders knew about the old rebel base but they witheld it from their subordinates. Poe's mutiny would have never happened and he would not agreed to Finn's plan to go to find the code breaker.

That's not really true considering hyperspace travel takes days and weeks, even if it's not shown in the movies. There's nothing that suggest it didn't take much much longer than 5-7 days. Even the OT takes something like 4 years, but it looks much faster, because the plot doesn't make it obvious.

In Rogue one darth Vader’s fleet immediately showed up to deal with the rebels so does that mean they can predict the future since it would have taken days to get there and if they can they why didn’t they see the attach coming? I could go on but never in the canon has it states that hyperspace takes days.

Rey is a nobody, but she doesn’t need to be the daughter of Luke or Obi Wan to become somebody. Everybody was trying to have some stupid fan theories and I’m glad they were all wrong. If Rey was luke’s daughter... would it really be good? Everyone would have been expecting it.

We got a long one sided space chase, super Leia, and a half assed also one sided love thing where they sneak on a ship for the millionth time in Star Wars history.

I was actually disappointed that Rey didn't join the dark side. I was really expecting it to go that way. This movie had a lot of potential for some very interesting twists and it really dropped the ball for me.

One thing I didn’t like in the film was Rose’s hypocrisy. At the beginning of the film she calls out Finn for being selfish in wanting to abandon the Resistance for his own reasons, but later she jeopardize the lives of the last survivors by saving Finn because she’s starstruck.

His actions aren't because he's star struck, it's more out of concern. In Force Awaken's he does offer Rey to run away with him but after she declines he accepts it and leaves then returns and lies to to get on Starkiller base to save her and destroy the base (Rose, save Finn kill the Resistance). Last Jedi, Finn tries to runaway because he is concerned for Rey then says fuck it lets go destroy the dreadnought, after he finds out about her whereabouts

This movie did not feel like star wars at all to. There were so many face palm moments. All the animal bull, Massive plot holes, bad jokes, and a marry poppins Leia. Production was good, but it kind of had to be. In my humble opinion, it was a steaming pile.
Animals in the star wars universe actually have a big connection to the force. They don't cover it in the movies but in Star Wars the Clone Wars and Star Wars rebels you see that aspect of it

Mac Campbell It wasn't exclusive to Sith, Jedi never used it because it was a really dangerous and destructive force power. Same reason they don't use force choke (with some exceptions) as the Jedi didn't believe in killing their enemies. Supposedly, the lightning could cause serious harm to the user as well as the opponent.

Mac Campbell No problem. A lot of the powers the Sith used were banned by Jedi for being too inhuman, or too dangerous to be used. That's including some lightsaber techniques. For example, in a Star Wars book I read, there was a joke were a Jedi attempted a technique he read about in the Jedi archives, and ended up breaking his arm.
Mac Campbell Thats why the Force in this movie makes no sense. The force wasn't Dark or Light, it was defined by the person who used it. The Jedi and Sith were extremists seeing the force as dark and light. But, there was a faction of Jedi called "Gray Jedi" who saw it as their mission to keep the force in balance utilizing both light and dark powers. They believed that the force was not black or white, thus the name. For example, Qui Gon Jin was considered a gray Jedi because of his radical views on the force, but he didn't use dark side powers. Now, in thus new movie, the force is Dark rises to meet Light. So the stronger Kylo gets, Rey will get the same power for free, rather than have to actually train and hone her force ability.

Rian Johnson made Luke, the guy who was so against killing his father (despite both his masters telling him to do so) cause he was family and had a conflict within him, had no problem considering murdering his own nephew in his sleep caused he sensed a "dark" future....what the fuck.
It pisses me off cause The Last Jedi even steals a scene from ROTJ with Rey in cuffs, telling Kylo that she feels a conflict within him and to let go of his hate. The same way Luke told vader when he was in cuffs.
Disney is just trying too hard to make Rey the new Luke Skywalker, having her become so powerful with no training what so ever and having her tell Luke not to give up on Ben when he should know better.
Even Snoke was confused telling Kylo "You were beaten by a girl who never held a lightsaber". Like c'mon Lucasfilm, I know you want a strong female protagonist but have her make sense and feel relatable.

From the trailers I expected this film to be about Rey initially being trained by Luke to fight The First Order and eventually turning over to the Dark Side because Luke's own insecurities and depression about his failures, and her being manipulated by Snoke. Then Kylo Ren killing his mother and expecting to be rewarded by Snoke but is instead discarded once Snoke turns Rey into his new apprentice so turns back to the Light Side...
I would have also had Snoke's guards turn out to be The Knights of Ren but also the remaining living ex-students of Luke Skywalker and also Rey would find out she's the younger sister of Kylo Ren.
And during all this, I would have had The First Order destroying the rest of the Resistance... That is what I would have done.

I had that thought, it most likely would be because of fan outrage, not because they've written it in advance, but who knows? It just seems like a very bold move to make. I know it couldn't have been this projection bs because Snoke was physically cut in half, rather I thought it may have been a clone, or Snoke using his amazing force power to control this clone from elsewhere in the galaxy. I would hope you are right and they took us all for fools, or salvage this wasted opportunity for an excellent antagonist that could rival Vader. Leaving it as is would be a shame indeed.

I'm a big fan of the EU Luke. However movies have to face a different reality. Mark hamil is not gonna be around forever. So I like how they handled this version as a troubled hero. It gives Mark a chance to explore the character and give him actual growth in the time given. As far as the final scene where he became on with the force I'm torne. I was amazed at the power he displayed tricking the first order. I honestly didn't want to see Luke get the treatment Yoda got in the prequels. The movie had a lot of problems but Luke was the strongest part of this movie.
if you payed attention in the scene where rey and kylo force bonded, rey was in the rain and kylo got wet, not to mention when they had physical contact. so it was obvious that there is physical elements to it too. he got sliced and blown up in his illusion so it would have taken its toll...

Joshua Howell - because the force users became super heroes. No hard work, no honing of their abilities, learning new tricks. Just like superheroes have them from the start. On top of that, everything about the force is changed and how force skills work. Lightsabers will be gone too eventually.
Star Wars is about story telling most and for all. About exploration and excitement. Ep VII and VIII reuse Tatooine, Endor and Hoth. The prequels had Coruscant, Naboo, Mustafar... The OT and PT introduced numerous new aliens that also actually did something in the film. There is no issue with losing some of the elements as long as it isn't the majority. It feels like the diversity has been diminished to only human diveristy. No planets with impact have been introduced (same scene on hoth like planet).
Too much fanservice and repeating old formulas are actually counter productive for Star Wars because Star Wars is about new locations, new races, new challenges, story telling, ... A movie isn't a Star Wars movie just because R2-D2 is in it.
Especially the damn casino planet. All those scenes felt so out-of-place.

My biggest problem with Rey being basically nobody is that it makes the force awakens ending even worse. if she is nobody how the hell can she take on Kylo Ren who has all this training from Luke and Snoke. The way this movie/trilogy completely makes all the events of the past movies seem pointless offends me as a Star Wars fan. Like what was the point of the Skywalker family arc if the Emperor is supposedly still around and Anakin’s son Luke was gonna die in an anticlimactic manner fighting a war that is just the original repeated. The fact these movies occur in the same rehashed conflict just cheapens the original trilogy and everything the Skywalkers went through. It’s very clear Disney wanted to make a new trilogy with the old actors and plot line purely because it draws tons of money but didn’t have the consideration to respectfully handle this continuity.

I was too young for the prequels to be disappointed, didn’t become disappointed until 2015
I felt conflicted right after Disney bought it. Then they cancelled they effectively erased canon and therefore the EU and I wasn't conflicted anymore. It's shite. Then they fucking cancelled TCW. Not only was I not conflicted, I had joined the Dark Side at that point. Fucking furious. Then they replaced it with what was basically a war crime and a violation of basic human rights - "Rebels". The amount of conflict I felt within me was so minute it was comparable to a tardigrade (as in very small and yet very sturdy) because I knew exactly what I felt - dissatisfactionand disappointment ). Then TFA came out, and it was utter plagiarized garbage. Now at this point the amount of conflict in my system was so incredibly small it could've formed a blackhole and ripped apart and swallows the entire solar system (which is a scenario far preferable to real life where all this crap happened).
Now with TLJ, I am conflicted again - but not in the way you think. TLJ is a terrible Star Wars movie, once again we're let down as they crush, destroy, and milk the franchise we love for all it's got. So no I'm conflicted between hatred and apathy. It's like a parabola, first love for Star Wars, then hate for what the the Mouse did to it, and now I'm on the other side basically not going to give a shit about any new Star Wars media anymore. I'm done, I don't know if I even care anymore, like I obviously do but holy shit this crap is terrible...
Edit: let me clarify, I still love Star Wars and yes the Prequels were also bad - but surprisingly not as bad as this world-destroying horseshit of a trilogy and everything - Prequels instead were world-building and as such awesome. At the VERY least the Prequels had that going for them. World-building and originality - and most of the characters in the Prequels were then redeemed in the show. The sequels have nothing, nada going for them. It's fanfiction trash. But I still love Star Wars, just not new canon stuff.

Historically, the Roman Praetorian Guard, the namesake of Snoke's bodyguards, "became notable for its intrigue and interference in Roman politics, to the point of overthrowing emperors and proclaiming their successors."
With this in mind, one way they could have killed off Snoke was if these Praetorians betray him in the end. Then its revealed they are the Knights of Ren, loyal ultmately to Kylo Ren and securing his ascension as the new Supreme Leader.
But apparently Disney thinks that ancient Roman history is too boring for kids.
Latinkon they didn't even mention the knights of ren in this movie which is infuriating because that means jj has to give the whole back story for the knights and introduce them in 9. Too much for one movie

Bryce Williams I actually think they did mention the Knights of Ren, however it was extremely brief. The scene where Luke's temple was burning I believe Luke said that after Ben turned he killed the force users who resisted him in the temple and those who joined Ben became the Knights of Ren. Again it is extremely brief, it almost seems like Disney/Johnson want you to forget about it this group entirely.

Wow lets totally forget about all the established Star Wars universe rules. The movie is full of plot holes, is sloppy, slow, and tiresome film making. They choose to conveniently forget about tractor beams, have force ghosts able to influence the physical realm, portray Luke as a bitter "old man", ruin Rey, make her a pointless passive protagonist, relegate Chewy to basically function as a glorified Uber driver for Rey, introduce a character like Rose that has less charisma than my big toe. I mean come on calling a guy DJ? Also the Harry Potter-esque Canto Bight scene with CGI small aliens and human faced dog horses that serve no purpose but to try prove a point about animal cruelty? Spend time developing the Star Wars saga mate. Oh and the not so funny jokes that ruin the flow. Good job Rian.

Isn't there. Snoke knew Kylo was going to kill him. The final test of a dark side apprentice is to kill their master and take their place, that is how the dark side continues to grow stronger, every generation must find a way to surpass the previous. That is exactly what Kylo does, it's what Snoke wants him to do. By killing Snoke, Kylo becomes a master of the dark side, that is something that Anakin/Vader could never do. Notice how Snoke scolds Kylo in the beginning of the film, but just when Kylo is going to kill Snoke, Snoke starts to compliment Kylo, stating "I can not be beaten, I can not be betrayed". And his words ring true, When Kylo kills Snoke, Snoke wins. His legacy is cemented, his apprentice takes his place.
even if that's the case, I still doubt it. He was suppose to kill Rey, even a jedi kills for the greater good, plus if Snoke ever wanted his apprentice to kill him then he intended to, he seemed shocked when he killed him during his monologuing. Snokes character completely surpassed palpatine, even palpatine has his own spinoffs and sequels. Snoke just poofed, Gone. Lack of interesting feats and backstory of how he found Kylo(Ben Solo) or trained kylo like he mentioned at the end of Ep.7. But either way your theory seemed understanding and meaningful because that is how the Dark side seeds back into every series...If only they extended Snokes character development. then it would sound promising. plus many other channels made theories that builds up before Episode 7. So your theory might fall flat because directors change midway through a trilogy...Its motivation for the ninth film is pretty much screwed...hopefully that's not the case.
