@@EdwardGutierrez90 In my opinion Space Jam 2 is not a bad movie for what it is. It's just not memorable like the 1st one though. But none of these sequels/remakes these studios are doing are. Space Jam 2 is very much like Coming 2 America (the sequel if theres any confusion). Visually pleasing but missing the soul of the original. Theres no Space Jam theme song and theres no MJ stretch dunk. It's just missing the iconic moments the original had. I will say Space Jam 2s intro is just as good as the original but the movie kinda tails off.
They dont do it with a quality-first anymore, now its all about the money

The reason he says that is because it is so vaguely basketball it may has well have not been. Space jam 2 is basically Warner brothers version of Ralph breaks the internet. Both were sequels to great movies and had a ton of references and cameos from their other properties. Both films also referenced memes.

@@retrofan4963 Had actual good actors ( minus mj of course ), a cohesive story that made sense, easy to follow for both adults and children, some decent humor, and an incredible and iconic soundtrack. The soundtrack makes it from alright to actually a good movie which is why it's still beloved to this day.
This is the 2021 version of The Emoji Movie. It never had a chance of being anything but shit.

Yes it is, but when I was growing up there was lots of inappropriate stuff that was in kids movies I watched, like Shrek for example, and they got away with it. But they won’t get away with it today and they have toned it down. I even think Soul isn’t a movie for kids, same with Up, those have very deep messages that you don’t wanna introduce your kids into, of course I was introduced to it when I was young and I’m fine.

There is a basketball game, but it's just so bleh and boring, it's probably easy to miss.

Biggest thing for me was the fact that, what made space jam so revolutionary was seeing your favorite cartoon characters, interact with one of the most famed and loved basketball player of all time. It honestly wouldve been cool if they did a true sequel, but in 2021 where animation has evolved. Now you throw in western animation, then you got the old timey animation style, then you throw in japanese animation, then maybe you go even farther back to hand drawn animation. The story doesnt even have to be anything super extraordinary either. Its just depressing now to see the movie industry take less and less risks.
These are time where everyone is getting sick of safe.

This movie was absolutely atrocious but for some reason I was smiling all the way through. I don't know why, I think it's because I grew up with the Looney Tunes, and they didn't change their voice actors like they did in Scoob.
Just because it wasn't going to be great, doesn't mean it wasn't entertaining. I expected dumb shit, and we got it. The movie even called itself out in a scene, so it knows it is bad. Even if this is an advertisement of a movie, it still tries to have fun about it, just exactly like the original.
Some ppl hold too much hate in their hearts for movies 😅

In Space Jam, Jordan was pulled into Toon World, and the game, BY THE TOONS, because he was good at basketball. They needed someone good at basketball.
In this movie, Lebron was pulled in by the antagonist, not the protagonists... He's not here because he's good at basketball, he's here because he's famous. The whole point is that when he tried to play 'real basketball',
AKA Lebron's way, they fail big time. Because it's NOT real basketball. Lebron loosening up on the court and just having fun with it is one of the core plot points of the whole movie, rofl.
This review is full of really weird takes where they try to take this movie way too seriously, and with really strict preconceived notions. Why does this have to be a real world basketball movie? Because the original was closer? Because Lebron is in it? I guess I just personally felt it was fine as it's own thing.

Edit: even if it was a playful self-aware joke, that would imply that the makers of this movie are 100% aware that this movie isn’t that great. In making a joke like that (with this context in the movie) you are basically saying to your audience-
“Oh yea we know it’s a garbage movie full of advertisements and quick cash-grabs, but hey, look on the bright side! LeBron James and the Loony Toons are in it.”
This whole movie just feels like ready player one again.
Plus, self-aware jokes like these CAN and HAS worked in movies before. But in doing so they don’t completely undermine the narrative. Here it’s legitimately pointing out that this movie didn’t have to be made and the world would still be perfectly fine with it.
Im not saying you can’t like this movie. If you do, good on you. I can admit that this movie is just dumb fun. If you ignore the acting and ignore the plot, and you just stare at the screen, I can see why you’d like it

This movie is not a "Space Jam" movie. It's just a clone of "Ready Player One" and "Ralph Breaks The Internet" that's only created to try and promote "HBO MAX" since all of Warner's characters are on there now. It's completely soulless and has absolutely none of the elements that made the original 1990s movie with Michael Jordan such a beloved, nostalgic pleasure.
Ready Player One at least touched a real issue in our isolating society. It was way more solid as movie that this trash. Obviously it helped that Spielberg worked on it.

LeBron isn't half the man Michael Jordan is. Michael was competitive on and off the court, but he always carried himself with class. He was humble, respectful, and never made excuses. He was practically everything a role model should be.
