I bet the boy enjoyed every second of that. AND for those commenting about no gloves, of course the boy has gloves he just didn't see a need for them, some people are hard enough that a minute or two without gloves doesn't kill them.

It's nice seeing a young man learning these type of things he Will be able to do anything as he grows older. I learned to drive our dune buggy at age 9 it was a stick shift at age 12 I was hooking up to truck and towing our trailers, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, dune buggies 3 hours north to our cottage. I'm almost 50 now and very little I can't do thanks to my Dad.

I agree, that's one reason I decided not to use the backhoe to pull me out. The kids need experience. Plus they are who I have to depend on most time. No one else is coming up the road, might as well teach the young ones

When my tug strap isn't long enough, I put an old pickup tire in between two chains. Takes a lot of shock out when you have to snatched it.

That's awesome that your son doesnt just floor it. In snow most people even adults don't think to take it easy. What made you all want to move to a place so opposite of Arizona? I used to think it would be great to move to Kentucky and be in the mountains. Where I live is awesome because if we get a snow warning schools and work shuts down, like the whole city. We don't have the equipment here for the city or country to get the snow off the roads. But we rarely ever get snow and when we do it is still okay to drive on, they just shut everything down because nobody knows how to drive on icy roads lol. The heat here can be bad but if you get a pool just throw some ice in it jump in for a few and get back to work. I love my super long summer days.

As a young girl, I learned from my dad to always carry gloves in your vehicle. Even in the summer. You never know what task you may have to do, and gloves can protect your hands from a lot of different things. And even at my age now, I still do. Same goes for jackets. Even in the hottest of summers, I've had to use one in a very cold grocery store or movie theater. Never hurts to be prepared. And yes, kudos to the young man. He did a fine job!

Never reeve between two tow points like that. Reeving doubles the side load on the connecting point a halves the sling angle, in addition to the fact that you've already increased the load just from the sling angle.
In this example, a typical tractor about that size weighs 2,000 pounds(probably more, but we'll stick with a round number). Say you didn't reeve it and you instead connected correctly at each tow point. The smallest allowable sling angle is 30 degrees, which doubles the load on each leg, and it looks like you hit much less than 30 degrees at times. So, to avoid 2,000 # on 1 tow hook inline, you put 2,000 # (probably more) on *each* tow hook as a *side load*.
And reeving it doubles it again, so now it's 4,000# of side load.
If that sling angle gets down to 10 degrees, and it might have there, and you include the reeving, you could have as much as, or more than, 10,000 # of side load on each tow point.

A real locker in the rear end of the truck would work wonders in that situation, then hook the chain short, like 5 feet between the truck and tractor. Hook low on the tractor, high as possible on the truck, then you'll be putting downward pressure on the truck suspension for more weight on the tires resulting in more traction while picking up on the rear of the tractor at the same time. Also telling your son to "punch it" with slack in the chain could have turned out really bad for you (as in a funeral) if the chain would have broken. Glad it didn't break and you're OK. My son's truck has a caved in tailgate from hitting the end of a slack chain trying to pull a truck stuck in the mud, it could very easily have been the back window if the tailgate hadn't been closed. Just be safe and teach your son to work safe and maybe you won't be attending HIS funeral for something he did that was really stupid while working. Your comment about the strap was what you should have done, even if it meant stopping to go back to the barn or house to get it..

Use to use a back blade on my grandparents 1953 Ford jubilee. Used it a lot in the 78 blizzard in Indiana . Also 1964 case front end loader . Easier to turn blade backwards and push going in reverse. Still have and both run well and still use today. I learnt the sameway as this young man.

I've found a winch works best. When a truck or tractor can't pull you out even with chains and ballast. I have an 8500 pound winch on a 2 inch receiver. I can plug it into to front bumper or the rear bumper. Attach to the battery with big jumper cables. It has pulled twice its weight. If you use a snatch block pulley, you can get better angles. Something about the slow, controlled pull off the winch. It works so much better than the sudden jerk of a chain or the pull of a strap.
I guess that's why all the tow trucks use winches.
Good video. It's hard to keep up with the snow.

Hook your chain on the further side of the tractor down in the ditch and hook so your pulling from the passengers side of the truck and make your chain between the two as short as possible . You won't believe how easy it will come out . Keep on having fun in the snow.

You need a snow shovel or grain scoop to dig out first. A strap would also be good. You got a strong kid that can shovel you free. We used to have to dig out with a folding army shovel. A grain scoop would make easy work of that snow.

    • @idadho
      @idadho 5 років тому

@Abe E Been there. Done that, many times. You shovel smaller amounts with each load. A grain scoop works great for shoveling heavy snow. I learned to dig out of snow banks in 1963. We always had a shovel handy during snow season. I even carry one on my ATV and snowmobile.
Watch George Hill of Hill Autobody and Towing. He always shovels a path, even when the sand is not deep.

Your angles were all wrong. You had it correct when backing up the Ford. (Engine weight + backing up = placing weight down to increase traction to pull backwards). You needed to run pull chain closer to passenger side of Ford to increase angle. As well a fulcrum lever (6x6 with a notch cut in top, standing up, cable over top, when pulling it would act like a pivoting hoist and "lift" tractor up and out). A "low line" pull like you tried will always result in stuck vehicle just sliding along ditch edge.

I was already up the driveway in the blue tractor, my truck k was already started up and I had not plugged in my backhoe to the generator to be started. It takes roughly 40 minutes to get the backhoe warmed after plugging it in then letting it idle for awhile. So the idea was this was going to be faster, it wasnt.

You will continue to spend a lot of time repairing your mess up. Everyone has problems but try too stop some of them. Your Ford is to small
and light for the amount of snow you are trying to move. Put a blade on your loader, so you don't push it all the time, plow it to the side, 8 feet going down and 8feet coming up, now you have a wide road. You are smart enough to
convert a blade like they put on the front of trucks to plow snow, or maybe one off of a state truck. I've seen people picked up an old truck in the junkyard with the entire system on it cheaper than the blade cost. I'm watching all of your videos so i know we're a lot alike, and you can modify
one to work. Listen carefully, if you keep jerking your stuff with a log chain, sooner or later it will snap. You will get hit with the chain and seriously injured or worse, dead. I have seen the chain snap and bust the rear window out of 3 trucks, 2 brand new when playing in the mud and got stuck. I bought a snatch rope, it's like a tow rope except you hook it up and go like hell. When it gets tight and stretches the truck will stop period, you better wear your seatbelt. It will stretch 6-8 feet so the tractor is coming out. Please do not use a chain to pull out a stuck vehicle.
We had them at the beach on sand and they work mine cost $50. Good luck in the future, be safe. I am enjoying your videos. Next I'm going to sub to your neighbor and watch him.

Pulling in reverse like that is a good way to blow up a diff. Next time leave that Ford with the back blade in the shop when it snows more than 1/2 an inch. Look up useless in the dictionary and there will be a picture of that POS.

think you 13 ear should ground you for damaging the fence lol you would have done it to him for sure you could not wait to punish him lol great videos still can not understand why you left a track to sit outside for all of ours and inside a heated shop and we move snow with a skid steers on the farms and have grader to blow the snow here as well have 10 graders we own and lease to the county for plowing the roads and trucks to sand the roads to we always keep all of our machinery under a roof keeps it looking new too we will be out at 12 am tonight plowing they said we got a good bump of the white snow I am looking forward have a bump of snow to pack the root cellar with snow and freeze it with water it is our freezer working very well for use my place is off grid winds and solar panels if the creek does not freeze have a water wheel making power here as for heat we have a 4 bale burner to heat my home and 4 shops as well the other house is on and other burners and 5 more building are heated with
have bad bales again it only good to burn then to get rid of them to get to use for bedding for animals too we have a backup system in place too if we need to use it
one of the buildings we have emergency vehicles inside of one 2 fire trucks and fully equipment ambulance as well and 2 smaller rescue trunks and 2 water trucks if need water someplace amazing how often they are calling out got cells 3 hours away for a fire truck if need one and we did the yard burn down before the truck came and was so windy that day just spread for one build to and other building lost a 100 head of milk cows that got caught in the fire as well they reexit the barn and was too stupid to leave the fire they just wanted to be milked at the time when it happens the fence fell over from the fire and let the cow go back in to the burn
after that, we buy a used fire truck to have here and had the farmhands trains as well the country has the truck for use now we house them here too my place is the main emergency place in the area if we need to be counted for have room for 300 people here washrooms and to feed them all
that is the area we cover as for the meat have a place to butcher an animal when the need to us due to hanging meat each month for the stuff we have employees to we all had meat here plus have big gardens as well on the farms we have been growing food in greenhouse as well not on my yard but 3 roads over they do we are learning this, having tomato all year around too
