Please dont do another merge the OCE community is already struggleing with 100-200 Ping we already lost all our servers, connery isnt our home but its the only place we fit in. Yea we could live in soltech for better ping, but no one speaks english there kinda kills it if you cannot communicate with others.
@@CMDRCyrious Planetside Arena was an attempt to save the franchise. Planetside's "BIG BATTLES WOW" was it's attraction but its biggest flaw. New and old players alike do not want to sit in either side of an overpop infantry or vehicle zerg and no dev wants to attempt the resource expenditure or balance nightmare on something like this again. Going BR was the wrong direction but Zerg Battles wasn't it either.
What? Go try Foxhole. It's the same but with more down to earth mechanics. It's a fictional universe but not based on a mythical future. Also, there is this game called Anvil Empires thats the same as Foxhole but medievalish. Highly recommend both
I had to back out of Planetside due to rig issues during a rough part of life. I was never around for the glory days, and when I was finally able to run the game, my friends had moved on. But I still got some very unique fun out of the game, and I think the healthiest way to look at it is to be grateful for the time I got out of it. The battle stories are completely unique. I still get a smile thinking of that one time I hopped on during a pitched battle and this one empty Galaxy pilot gathered a crew of total randoms to join the Crown battle. We didn't know each other. I usually don't do voice chat, but I figured something that spontaneous merited it. This group of randoms didn't just join the battle. We arrived to find allies driven back, and took the Crown ourselves through friendly cooperation and the experienced people in the group teaching on the go. Then there were crazy stunts like managing to get a C4-loaded Flash between tanks that were packed too tightly, or the thrill of crazy solo missions to bust entrenched Sunderers. And having a tree hopping LA duel for a swamp base with a much more advanced player, reaching out to congratulate them for the sheer fancy moves they pulled, and getting a friendly conversation out of it. And one time everyone went "Fuck it, long march MAX charge across the desert for no good reason at all" and it freakin' worked. Thanks for the frags, Emerald.
Emerald, that name alone brings so many memories. I remember joining an absolutely random party of sunderers and going deep into enemy territory with them, killing random tanks and planes on the way. We had a dozen sundies and every pilot had to switch to the gunner seat when there was an enemy around. We reached their warp (or w/e the huge force field ball is called) and ended up getting all slaughtered there lol It felt so adventurous and reckless, and it was one of the best things ever. There was that one friend who kept pushing me to try his weird ideas. One of them was to get a magrider on top of a galaxy, and it worked! it freaking worked. I remember a random NC player saw us and started chatting with us in the global chat lmao We've got the mag on top of one of the bio stations and people kept asking wtf xD I remember back in the way I wanted to start a YT channel about PS2. I ended up not doing that and starting a channel for a totally different game years later. Who would have known how things would have shaped up for me if my internet was fast enough back then. One can only guess
*sigh* I’ve had that “this game is gonne die soon” vibe for a long while. But its held on for years. This last year or so that feeling has intensified a lot though. And i’m expecting it to keel over any time now. But to hear it be acknowledged from mr Cyrious here. Whom i’ve been watching for quite a while really makes it hit hard. This game I loved will be gone soon. No more harasser driving, no more max phalanxes, no more fucky flight physics, no more fairies, no more mountain battles. Its making me sad
It's dead since Daybreak and the end of SOE. The PS2 of today is nowhere near what it was. It's just a zombie who survive on the subsides of the cheater teams (they pay cash, so they will NEVER be banned or blocked). I stopped playing since 2022 after almost having maxed out all my purple fairies, but the fun is not there anymore, cheaters everywhere, absurd nerfing, deathcam with auto-spot etc... 8 years of PS1, 10 of PS2, i wished to a PS3 and instead we had a shitbag of PSA. Yes it's a dead game.
@CMDRCyrious yeah, and it's not a mystery what. Everyone is telling them, and video like yours clearly articulate the why. They just need to listen and do it!
@@CMDRCyrious they are already abandoning this ship. They sold the IP, got their money and now they are enjoying free salary as the game dies with no direction. They have 0 motivation to deliver a better game since they dont even own the game anymore 😅
Every now and then it's interesting to see the PC player's opinion. Having not had anything for PS5 in 2 years, I don't even think about this game anymore
The outfits I play with saw a lot of old players come back for Sundypocalypse. Some hated the changes, but had fun hunting Brrt Busses and dispatching their own brand of justice. Others loved it and had a blast (literally and figuratively). Either way, I have to say, this game continues to be what you make of it; game breaking shenanigans included.
I was talking about that in chat. If was an special event, tha would've been AMAZING. It was REALLY fun to try ESF. I hope they fix it and make it an event. I dont want this game to die. I wish they'd fix performance and do something new to bring new people, but I'm affraid they just do not care enough. But then why hunt cheaters? Maybe they do...IDK. I love this game. I dont want to think I'll never play ESF again. Flight with a Maggie...
Wrel? The guy that released a continent while Hossin was unfinished? The guy that couldn't get construction right at all for almost a decade? The guy that didn't listen to community feedback, ignored all critisisms and concerns provided from the PTS. The same Wrel that gave the VS hitbox modifying ammunition. The same dude that nerfed the Dalton, gave us CAI which the last 6 years of updates has essientally been slowly rolled back. The same wrel that ruined the Prowler, destroyed the NC's arsenal and couldn't get ARX rewards right for the life of him? The moron that gave us a completely pay-to-win Implant system. Who destroyed Biolabs on Esamir and then replaced them with worse Containment Sites? The same twit that thought SMG infiltrator was too OP but did nothing about HA for his entire tenure? That oversaw the bugged failure of 'upgrading' the game from DX9, to D11? At what point was the game worth playing in the last 8 years, because I can't for the life of me remember when PS2 was anything better than mediocre garbage while under his 'care'.
Though I quit PS2 many years ago now, I still enjoy seeing your videos and learning what's going on with the game. I hope you cover more large scale shooters on your channel, you make really good content for this game and I know more communities out there would love to have you as a voice for their game.
I spawned a Valk at the warp gate and flew toward the crown where it got insta-deleted immediately. I figured that we probably got hit by a mbt and the sundy that showed up on the kill cam just did damage right at the end and got credit, but I soon realized that was not the case.
I decided to play planetside after not playing for a year or more and just happened to do so during this sunderer thing. It never changes lol. At least it didn't go unfixed for weeks or even months as I remember many patch bugs doing. After having played Planetside 2 for its entire lifetime, it really is time to let it go. I might hop on every now and then, but it's a decade old. If they ever make a 3, I'm on board, but even despite nothing else that does what it does, it's just getting too old. Hopefully we will see another mmofps some day that will give it a shot and learn from PS2's mistakes. I'm hearing some interesting things about the Dune mmo along those lines, however unlikely. For now I'm playing Helldivers, and despite being 4 player pve, it still gives me that feeling of total insanity like ps2, with explosions and stuff flying around everywhere.
We have eve online, its not planeside but is a mmo espacial sandbox 99% pvp focus and economy by players and is fucking crazy... the pvp can be 1vs1 or 1000000002312312489 VS 234893248923840328490 you know, fucking crazy, everyone on the goble is on the same server! And my maan the pvp is fucking intense! Is Awesome, massive and epic, Also Strategy and tatics is not a option it is a need and is inteeeeeeeense baby! There is also games like foxhole that is like eve but on WW1 War, project Reality that is like a planetside but more small and on modern tecnology, it still very sandbox and you and teamates have a lot of options of tatics and stuff, tanks and planes are very fun to use and the game is very tatical and "Realistic" and when the bullets start to fly my maan, is good, but is fucking good the exchange of bullets are awesome.
I think they put this game on life support when they lowered the max player count per continent from 2000 to, what was it? 600? around 2016, I don´t even remember. I only remember how AWESOME the huge battles were and how dead the maps felt after the popcap reduction, which made me quit playing. It baffles me to this day, how they managed to completely ignore the only thing which made their game unique: the scale. If they would have mashed servers, dialed up popcap to 2000 again, and most importantly invested into a ton of PR!!! (their biggest mistake by far!), they would have been able to exceed the initial player count from the first month.
I made a similar video on PS2 about 2 weeks ago but I appreciate that you went more in depth into what's going on with the game as someone who seemingly actively plays the game through all of the updates and transitions.
The PS3 ship sailed a long time ago, but I’m just shocked the gaming industry hasn’t replaced this game yet. Why is there still nothing like it?? Closest thing we might get in the near future is Star Citizen if server meshing finally happens this year.
PS2 did it with honestly quite aggressive adaptive render distances where in the truly massive battles you had players and vehicles pop into existence like 15-50m away from you but there is just no way the devs or players of SC would accept that in their perfect game so SC battles will never come anywhere close to PS2 and sadly people thinking this will be the case are hopelessly deluded. Even if they get their magical netcode/servers functional there is not a single PC on the planet that would run the game if you threw in 200+ players/vehicles into the same area. Star Citizens "high fidelity" is not without drawbacks, being incompatible with large scale battles is one of them.
I think I remember a long time ago, when I first got a PS4, I heard a youtuber recording their intro in the hub. I think it was you. Honestly I don't know if it was, but I wanted to say it was an honor to serve with all my TR brothers on PS4 and PC. Shades18 Terran Republic Special Forces on PS4. Forgot my name on PC. But yeah. I remember having base battles last hours in real life, fighting on the walls, seeing the enemy in the day and then only seeing tracers and rockets at night, hearing the spine chilling noise of an infiltrator decloaking behind you. There is nothing like this game.
You know, it is kinda liberating that someone else confirms your suspicions about the state of the game and you yourself then do not feel bad about letting it go.
It's actually the opposite. Connery is literally dead and Emerald is the most populated server of all Planetside. All the Connery refugees switched to Emerald.
I'm a 10 year veteran of PS2. After Wrel left I said its over. The reddit blackout happened and after the traitor mods took over I left the subreddit. I was never so sure that PS2 is now ACTUALLY dying. I stopped playing. For all his faults, Wrel was the dude doing CPR in the game for years and years.
I am convinced if they just straight up asked some of the community or people who like the game but are not heavily involved to help develop the game for a salary a sizeable bunch would actually do it they just don't care and don't have any vision for the future to actually make any progress on the game. If the game was better it would be a massive hit globaly since there is nothing quite like it right now
i still want to play this game, but when i get the urge i tend to just log in for 30-40 mins now and just all of a sudden im done and i quit the game.... sometimes its a log in and an immediate nope.
I feel like I got my play time at what I consider the best part of the game's life. Pre-release beta. I remember massive battles over unrestricted objectives with organized vehicle hordes. Infantry crawling over everything.
I've been playing PS2 during its entire lifetime starting as a kid, I'm a grown adult now and every few months or so I think about getting back on, but the spark just isn't there anymore. Love this game, but there has been this feeling of the game dying any minute for years.
At this point I think it boils down to an amazing idea that was fumbled at pretty much every pass. The sad thing is the state of the gaming industry means we're unlikely to see anything like this again and I doubt any indie developers have the teams or resources to step in and fill the gap. Maybe the best we can hope for is some determined fans getting ahold of the code and setting up a server after the shutdown. I don't know if they'd be able to fix the core issues, but maybe we can get a bit of the old magic back.
I was born in 1995, played games on consoles and PC, still play games a lot, never have I felt so sad watching a game die. I've looked everywhere yet there is simply no other game like this one, I don't know what it is in particular but I love the aesthetics, I miss being able to choose a battle from two full continents, the madness/chaos of big battles. It really felt like a big active world that had something to offer for everyone, whether I wanted to goof around solo or join an organized outfit squad for more serious gameplay... I'm so passionate about this game I'd throw my money (if I was rich af lol) at it if it means we get to see it revived, I'm just sad.
Uninstalled earlier this year. You’re right about Connery players not feeling it anymore. I created new characters a few years ago, but I never made connections like I did on Connery and therefore i never felt excitement to grow my character anywhere else. The game has always been about connecting with and working with other players I even was avid enough that I bought a Lifetime subscription when those were offered. Rip
I was part of the camp where I didn't want to start over, but I could see the writing on the wall with Connery. I made an Emerald alt waiting for the inevitable transfer right? Well that was over a year ago and it's now BR 81.
I love Planetside 2, I have hope that one day some big company decides to grab the franchise and release something huge. Imagine Planetside 3 in Unreal Engine 5.. in its current state, I don't think we'll get much more out of the game with whoever is running it now (so many switches lol).
Trying to make a game like this in unreal 5 would be hell, singleplayer games already struggle with so it a mmofps will 200+ players would be virtually impossible to play on anything other than a maxed out rig running minimum specs.
You know...the tutorial map is really fun. Simple, needs less people to work and honestly setting it up like a normal 64 player multiplayer shooter would take a lot of the guesswork and rallying out of finding a "good fight." Open like 3 lobbies tutorial sized maps and let it roll.
Logged in a few days ago, and the same thing that happened to him in the intro was exactly what happened to my ESF. I had no idea Sunderers received a buff, I thought a cheater was logged on. I logged off. Now that I see it's a game feature, I'm likely not going to log in any time soon.
The most ironic part is, this whole thing about sunderer ROF just increasing to a ridicoulous level, would be funny as a mini alert/short time event type of thing
At least i got to auraxium my assault, heavy and infil classes. Infinite fun, but it had to go away and it seems like that's moment is now. Reallt greatful for the good moments this game has brought me ever since i was 14 years old
I first got into Planetside 2 after The Spiffingn Brit’s videos. Ran with RBRN on Cobalt occasionally since then, I wish I spent more time with the game. Cobalt Clash may 22 was one of my best gaming experiences. Rest in peace Planetside 2
I don't think this game will ever truly die. There will always be a dedicated community around it, and even if the servers go offline, I know there will be efforts to bring it back, in some form. People still play Battlefield 2142 even today, using community-made tools. At the end of the day, we're well-overdue for a new game to take Planetside's place. Someone from the community needs to try and take a stab at an indie approach. I only wish I was further along in my study of game design to be able to start it, myself
I agree. After official server support for PS1 ended, almost immediately players created their own server they can still play on. I imagine something similar will happen with planetside 2. I'm gonna keep playing until every server is as bad as Connery. Then I may finally, respectfully, bury it.
Hey Cyrious, I hate to see you like this. However, when even the eternally optimistic commander sees the end approaching, then the PS2 might finally be done with circling the drain and be ready to take the plunge. I personally ripped the band aid off a year ago when construction got mutilated, and as much as I love PlanetSide enough to wish that was a mistake, I don't think it was. I realized at that time that I wasn't playing PlanetSide for what it was, I was playing it for what it had been and that the joy of 5-10 years prior was never coming back. That said, we had some good times, and I really enjoyed your platoons, thanks for PLing. I was always happy to drop in and smash the "Invite outfit" button to get the drunkards of HMRD cracking beers on your comms! At this point I honestly think it's better if PS2 dies sooner rather than later so that development on PS3 can seriously start. Until then, if you like MMO combined arms warfare then I can give a personal recommendation to Foxhole. I personally find the overhead cam off-putting, which is also part of why I stuck with PS2 for so long, but it really scratches that itch. Get HMRD Cyrious! Rabid.
@@CMDRCyrious I personally adore foxhole, the only issue I have with it is it's hard to feel like you're doing anything as infantry. It's definitely a game for the clans, more than the casual player.
Awe I'm late to the party. I was never very good at this game. I loved it though. The idea of large scale war should be a whole genre of shooters, but Planetside carried the torch alone for ages. Thanks for all the tips Commander.
They spent a LOT of money and resources on the last big Fortification update. Constructions were nerfed to almost zero. Who told them that construction is a problem? Who? People started flooding the servers immediately after that update. But when they saw that this update was complete crap, everything returned to the previous negative trends.
What's the longterm plan to get new players? Right now anyone who boots up and sees how the game looks vs. how it performs won't stay. If the game doesn't get new players it will just slowly whither.
@@CMDRCyrious yeah, ideally they’d be worse than players but decent enough to scare a light assault a bit more than 2 spitfires do. Also would need to be restricted to machine-gun turrets or else people will make walls of automated bulldog sunderers lol
Although I haven't played the game long, I can attest that Planetside 2 has a player population problem, albeit only at peak hours when a lot of people are online. The game is essentially a gradual death because of the noticeable decline in player numbers.
I revisit PS2 every couple years, felt an urge to play it again recently but thought I'd check on the state of the game since I played in 2022. Have to say it's pretty heartbreaking to see the state of the game. It was pretty bad then, but 50% player drop off and wrel stepping down hit hard.
Despite the broad gameplay differences, I've completely stopped playing PS2 since Helldivers 2 came out. It just scratches the itch better than PS2 does anymore, in terms of a sci-fi multiplayer shooter, and I don't have to deal with cheaters impacting my experience since it's PVE. I love PS2 and I played it for over a decade of my life, but some things don't last forever and it's okay. A server merge would make me seriously consider coming back though. My BR 100 main is on Connery, while I only have a BR 70 on emerald. If I could use my main, which has all the special things I've unlocked on it, on a server that's actually populated, I would play casually again.
I think the sunderer update isn't a bad thing. I like, that they try to rework things instead of tweaking stats. But it comes to slow to prevent the player drop. And a sundy rework is not the first thing I would do. Delete Oshur and bring old Esamir back would be the first. Then merge the servers as far as possible. Then nerf a2g. Then give the players something exciting.
I've had a knot in my stomach about the state of the game for the past few years now. But I think I've come to a point where I can accept it's time has come. Had over a decade of fun memories. At this point, I'd rather the game have a quick death to not taint those memories and then be replaced with Planetside 3. With how many hours I've logged (I really don't want to look, 10,000 easy) there isn't much else to draw me in.
Man I miss 2014-2016 PS2 gameplay. I just remember getting into a fight and 3 hours later realizing it’s 1am, lol. This game consumed my life for many years but sadly I gave up on it three years ago. I hope it’s able to make a comeback or at least maintain its current player count.
Long gone are the days of shelling the shit out of ti alloys from the crown with a locked down prowler and stopping sunderers from ceres. But i will forever hold those memories in my heart. The first time i opened this game in nov 2014 a huge convoy was moving and i couldn't believe my eyes, at the time i had never heard of the game and i certainly didn't imagine it was that huge and immersive. Rip to one of the greatest shooters of all time. Hopefully someday another will trace its steps.
It's always depressing, seeing the slow decline of a game. They always 'go down fighting', but it's never quite as glorious as the term makes it sound. This game got me my start in being the de-facto leader of player groups across all sorts of games. Due to computer issues, I couldn't do much in large battles, and even in smaller skirmishes, my aim was awful. I was, however, one hell of a front line commander. I only have 100ish hours, and in that time, I went from grunt to leader, organized defenses against forces two or three times larger than my own, and more often than not, we held out and pushed back. Even after moving on from Planetside, this has remained true throughout my experience in gaming. As a player, I'm average, sometimes a little above average. When I take charge of a team, however, their effectiveness improves pretty drastically. I'll always remember Planetside 2, though. I have some great stories from my relatively short time in this game. Epic pitched battles, intense sabotage operations, and legendary comebacks, a few of which involving me in a command role.
yeah I have basically quit the game until Connery gets merged with Emerald cause its unfair to start over and basically having a high BR character held hostage (however the likelihood I will even return at all drops by the month)
Some people just enjoy pissing other people off. They aren't trying to win, they don't care about their unlocks or KDR, they just get off to the rage tells and complaints in chat, and the knowledge that they're ruining a bunch of other peoples' evenings.
I love planetside but for some reason it started just randomly lagging to the point of unplayability. Really small fights would be ok for a little while but large fights were instantly getting me booted due to the random ping spikes. I was very sad. Hope they make a turnaround.
This game needs a better gameplay loop. i thought the sundee update would fix this. it hasn't the sund update doesn't synergize with the assault mode, the past balance fixes haven't been changed ( infil sniping ) The game can survive through discord events, bi-monthly outfit operations , maybe. But it needs to be MORE FUN and modern.
@@xaechireon NODES, base resources tied to ammo kills and cap points, multiple layers to facilities , door chokepoints , payload escort, different ways to capture a base not just point hold gal drop
It really is a shame finding other games for our outfit has been... interesting lack of population and the abundance of hackers has really took a hit to our want to play this game which really is a shame on top of the mix most games that are in the fps genre cant handle all of our guys getting on as even most pvp and pve games have a rather limiting number of friends that can join you everything feels so small compared to planetside 2 scale wise from the 48 pop platoons to 5-6 teams most pvp games give you or the 4 players in most coop games.
One of the biggest issues with playerbases of games in general, not just planetside, is that they wear themselves out by hyperfocusing on a singular playstyle. You can see this in a lot of competitive games like apex or cod or stuff like that. Players will stick to one thing until it gets boring, and then they will complain that the game has no content and leave. Planetside is not like those games. There is so much, honestly kind of TOO much, variety in playstyle, so hyperfocusing on one playstyle burns people out so fast. The main reason ive been able to consistently play every week is because i switch playstyles and seek out a fun play session, which this game is very full of possibilities for. I got bored of lmg heavy, so i switched to a helios primary and had fun. I got bored of the slow poke tank meta so i switched to turbo ram ant and had fun. I got bored of using revive nades all the time, so i switched to frags and underbarrel grenades and i had fun. TL;DR Dont hyperfixate on a single playstyle, switch it up when you feel it start to become a slog and youll find fun in this game and keep the playerbase alive
I can't get back into ps2, every time i try there's no public voip platoons anymore as everyone is using ts instead and needs to apply or some sht just to play with others.
I played PS1 right up till the end and i go through phases for PS2 when but its always kinda been for past decade i have my Cobalt main and i started an Emerald alt cos im in UK to play during the day in UK as Cobalt peak time is between 6pm-11pm GMT. Its gonna be weird if it slips in to the ether. How you been keep anyways Cyrious what you been playing other than this?
@@CMDRCyrious glad everything is ok though...honestly when you disappeared for few months i thought some bad had happened to you. I've lost that interest in gaming lately, but HD, Xcom2, Aliens Dark Decent, Aliens Fireteam Nd SWTOR....just jumping between all of them trying to get that feeling back.
It's rough to hear the disappointment in your voice. I haven't touched Planetside for over half a year and I doubt I will come back after these news. Thanks for covering them, tho.
I don't play anymore but it's still sad to say goodbye to a game that I put over 4500 hours in. But all good things must come to an end o7 - DrunkenGooseTR
I love this game, i never got to experience anything that pc players have because im console, but having to hear that this game is dying is sad and pisses me off
This makes me so sad as a console auraxian because i never got to experience planetside at its peak and i wish more attention was given to console, maybe one day.....
I played a bit just yesterday (Cobalt). The server population looked okay, but since a while ago (not sure how long, I'd taken a very long break beforehand) there would only be one active continent, and usually with a lot of inactive areas. I remember times when I couldn't get into alerts because there was a queue on two continents simultaneously... Really unfortunate, but since the studio that made the game no longer exists it's not surprising. It's possible there's only a handful of people working on PS2 now, some not even full time, who're just waiting to be transferred to another project. In my opinion the game is fun enough that it can survive without updates, but that's just me and I understand more active players get bored if nothing changes.
Well, it has been a good run. Started around 2014 myself. Pretty much my first FPS game on steam. I am sad to see it go but that's good, means it meant something to me.
Merge!!!!
Please dont do another merge the OCE community is already struggleing with 100-200 Ping we already lost all our servers, connery isnt our home but its the only place we fit in. Yea we could live in soltech for better ping, but no one speaks english there kinda kills it if you cannot communicate with others.
I held on hope for years, but I'm past that now. I am now at the acceptance stage and realize that planetside as a franchise is a thing of the past.
which is sad since there is literally 0 other game in the genre
It hurts! so much hours over the last what 12 years? I dont think theres any saving it either.

don't think we'll ever get a game like this again. a shame
yeah I worry that Planetside Arena swing ended the franchise.
Yes we will
@@CMDRCyrious Planetside Arena was an attempt to save the franchise.

So many epic adventures Planetside!
I remember a random NC player saw us and started chatting with us in the global chat lmao
We've got the mag on top of one of the bio stations and people kept asking wtf xD
I remember back in the way I wanted to start a YT channel about PS2.
Thanks for continuing coverage of PS2. Right now is when it needs it most. Hoping the devs listen to your ideas.
Someone up high needs to step in and do some emergency measures.
Amen
retired, but still come back in to see a game ii genially respect is fairing.
...this scenario rn? saddens me.
Time to build Definitely-not-Planetside-for-Legal-Reasons 4.
Haha you are right on
Every now and then it's interesting to see the PC player's opinion. Having not had anything for PS5 in 2 years, I don't even think about this game anymore
Yeah, development is definitely fully halted there. Would you hope for a PS3 on PS5?
@CMDRCyrious Hope is a fickle thing, commander. Titanfall taught me that. Best to forget and break even with the memories.
I had fun. Came back after 3.5 years. I didn't get to use the sunny though
Tried logging in the other day, and i just didnt feel it anymore.
Its over for me.
I feel ya brother, it hurts
All good things must end. I just wish that end have some honor in it.
Planetside 3 is what we need, with doors this time, please, thank you ToT
Agreed on PS3
Love him or hate him, Wrel was the only thing keeping planetside going. Now its just limping along till the inevitable.
I would love to do a tour of some of the other shooters out there, its on my list!
I heard it was bad but i didn't think the guns actually fired that fast holy moly
Haha it was WILD!
I spawned a Valk at the warp gate and flew toward the crown where it got insta-deleted immediately. I figured that we probably got hit by a mbt and the sundy that showed up on the kill cam just did damage right at the end and got credit, but I soon realized that was not the case.
@@CMDRCyrious Was fun. If I knew it was an event I'd have loved it.
Cant even build a base without being swarmed by 5 battle busses
this game was so much fun. the ultimate casual experience. nothing compares
Anyway, ill play it till the end 🫡
Down with the ship good on ya!
"Nanite Armor is probably just some variant of Nanite Auto-Repair"
Yeah... about that... *165/s constant reps and 3000hp burst heal*
careful cyrious, you dont want to be called a "doomsayer" for telling it like it is
F in chat for ps2. Man, I hope things come back together. I have been waiting to hop back in here when my new pc is finally finished.
It will still be there, just with less population. But if they merge servers for sometime population will actually be higher than its been in awhile.
It is a bummer they had to drop it. It sits at 900 max player count right now. You are right the days of 2000 was amazing
I made a similar video on PS2 about 2 weeks ago but I appreciate that you went more in depth into what's going on with the game as someone who seemingly actively plays the game through all of the updates and transitions.
Your video was great!
The PS3 ship sailed a long time ago, but I’m just shocked the gaming industry hasn’t replaced this game yet. Why is there still nothing like it??
Closest thing we might get in the near future is Star Citizen if server meshing finally happens this year.
It would be great if someone would pickup and run with the MMOFPS baton
Closest thing I can think of is Foxhole, but that's an overhead shooter that takes a more logistics approach rather than Planetside's FPS MMO thing.
Because these sorts of games are extremely difficult to make and extremely expensive to make AND maintain.
Eve online, fox hole, Project Reality are games that if you enjoy planetside so you wil enjoys these one but of course is not the same game.
just got to become a multimillionaire to reboot the franchise and balance from a player perspective, then we can have fun again
We all are hoping that deep down
I think I remember a long time ago, when I first got a PS4, I heard a youtuber recording their intro in the hub.
Have you got PTSD too?
@@csh5414 Only on how much I hated the vanu
You know, it is kinda liberating that someone else confirms your suspicions about the state of the game and you yourself then do not feel bad about letting it go.
Thanks for covering the game consistenly. I am slowly accepting that ps2 is fading away, and I am grateful for all the memories I've made.
It's been an honor and a privilege, down with the ship!
this sucks, i had so much fun playing this game.
It's time for Planetside 3, PS2 has run its course.
Agreed
Emerald is so dead it hurts. Even Connery doesn't have 2 continents on prime anymore.
It's actually the opposite. Connery is literally dead and Emerald is the most populated server of all Planetside. All the Connery refugees switched to Emerald.
I've never played till today. THIS DOESNT DESERVE DEATH. A solid sequel would immediately have me on board. I'm impressed with what I've seen so far.
Totally agreed, unfortunately this one has been to neglected at this point. We need the next one!
I'm a 10 year veteran of PS2. After Wrel left I said its over. The reddit blackout happened and after the traitor mods took over I left the subreddit. I was never so sure that PS2 is now ACTUALLY dying. I stopped playing. For all his faults, Wrel was the dude doing CPR in the game for years and years.
haha that is such a good way to put it. Wrel kept the CPR going for a long time
I am convinced if they just straight up asked some of the community or people who like the game but are not heavily involved to help develop the game for a salary a sizeable bunch would actually do it they just don't care and don't have any vision for the future to actually make any progress on the game. If the game was better it would be a massive hit globaly since there is nothing quite like it right now
The only thing that will bring me back for one last oorah is server merges.
Agreed merges would do wonders for it.
Sad to see this game die. I miss the old days
i still want to play this game, but when i get the urge i tend to just log in for 30-40 mins now and just all of a sudden im done and i quit the game.... sometimes its a log in and an immediate nope.
Yeah, happens to me too
I feel like I got my play time at what I consider the best part of the game's life. Pre-release beta.
I remember massive battles over unrestricted objectives with organized vehicle hordes. Infantry crawling over everything.
I agree, what a feeling
Really sucks seeing yet another game I really loved for over a decade just kind of die in really stupid ways :/
Yeah man, its a tough decline, hopefully EG7 makes some hard decisions to throw some real resources behind it. What are you playing lately?
I'm still watching the Doom 2 online community slooowly die
I've been playing PS2 during its entire lifetime starting as a kid, I'm a grown adult now and every few months or so I think about getting back on, but the spark just isn't there anymore. Love this game, but there has been this feeling of the game dying any minute for years.
Just hearing that BRRRRRRT from the sundy made me laugh every time
At this point I think it boils down to an amazing idea that was fumbled at pretty much every pass.
Planetside 3 when
I took a break from Planetside for about 5 years. Came back Last week tho. I really miss the old Esamir map
The game has always been about connecting with and working with other players
I even was avid enough that I bought a Lifetime subscription when those were offered.
Rip
connery guy here. the INSTANT if any, they merge connery and emerald, I'm back online. Probably playing every night.
As a long time player, don’t save it. Remember the good times and we all as a community must move on.
Often in the past months the servers have been offline for days without anyone taking care of it and not even a note to us about it.
This game wont die
That would be cool!
Damn i was about to get back into planetside after 10ish years? I guess not
_That vanguard kill_
Ho lee fuq.
At least i got to auraxium my assault, heavy and infil classes. Infinite fun, but it had to go away and it seems like that's moment is now. Reallt greatful for the good moments this game has brought me ever since i was 14 years old
No death......LIVE!!
I first got into Planetside 2 after The Spiffingn Brit’s videos. Ran with RBRN on Cobalt occasionally since then, I wish I spent more time with the game. Cobalt Clash may 22 was one of my best gaming experiences. Rest in peace Planetside 2
I'm going to take a whiff hopium and keep believing the game will keep thriving.
Rabid.
Whats up Rabid! I really love the flow of foxhole, I have struggled to get into the top down mechanic but maybe ill try again.
@@CMDRCyrious I personally adore foxhole, the only issue I have with it is it's hard to feel like you're doing anything as infantry. It's definitely a game for the clans, more than the casual player.
Hey Rabid. StockPrices here. Get HMRD.
I agree, so many people check it out, but they don't retain them.
Point Defense would be awesome if it basically turned the sunderer into a spitfire turret
Ahh an automated defense system, that could be cool. Although we tried that with bases a bit and it was a pain to move around them.
I havnt played in years but Im glad people still enjoy this game
I revisit PS2 every couple years, felt an urge to play it again recently but thought I'd check on the state of the game since I played in 2022. Have to say it's pretty heartbreaking to see the state of the game. It was pretty bad then, but 50% player drop off and wrel stepping down hit hard.
These weapons are done so stupidly, sometimes you think they do it on purpose so that no one plays it anymore.😢
I Don't feel like the game will ever truly die, if the plug gets pulled, bring out the private servers.
When I get rich in a couple years ima buy planetsife and make planetside 3 and save the series. Don’t worry boys I got us.
yeah I have basically quit the game until Connery gets merged with Emerald cause its unfair to start over and basically having a high BR character held hostage (however the likelihood I will even return at all drops by the month)
Why anyone would want to cheat on a dying game is simply beyond me.
Some people just enjoy pissing other people off. They aren't trying to win, they don't care about their unlocks or KDR, they just get off to the rage tells and complaints in chat, and the knowledge that they're ruining a bunch of other peoples' evenings.
Bro, look at tf2. Cheaters made it die in the first place.
"dead gaem"

Circling the drain more like.
the drain has been reached a few months ago, with 0 significant development
True
I love planetside but for some reason it started just randomly lagging to the point of unplayability. Really small fights would be ok for a little while but large fights were instantly getting me booted due to the random ping spikes. I was very sad. Hope they make a turnaround.
This game needs a better gameplay loop. i thought the sundee update would fix this. it hasn't the sund update doesn't synergize with the assault mode, the past balance fixes haven't been changed ( infil sniping ) The game can survive through discord events, bi-monthly outfit operations , maybe. But it needs to be MORE FUN and modern.
I agree, EG7 needs to step in and really up their game on this title.
When I learned of how PS1's gameplay loop worked, I wondered why they ever ditched it for PS2's loop.
Darn now I wish Connery got merged with emerald. I just got br100
TL;DR
Dont hyperfixate on a single playstyle, switch it up when you feel it start to become a slog and youll find fun in this game and keep the playerbase alive
My playtime has gone way down, a little bit of hell divers, mostly working on my property.
Man it looked so good a few years back. How did they manage to mess it up?
Yeah Wrel got it stabilized for a bit, but he did have some bad patches and when he left there was nothing holding it together.
Still the best game there is for online gaming and hoping to see a PS3 one day or some developer that uses the formula.
Miss it, and miss planetside 1.
good stuff
i tried planet side 2, but too many hackerz.
