@@CAMIKAZE78 If i got it right, what you basically said is that planetside franchise will probably resign from the planetside idea, making actual community leave for sake of modern audience - in other words, throwing out all the community loving this game for is original idea and style in order to make money on another bland dumb arcadeish battle royale like fortnite... "planetside" arena was razed to the ground because it has no more >Planetside< in it, hence if any sequel will raise it's hand on planetside original idea again it shouldn't be called planetside anymore. Planetetside is Planetside, it's originality is it's core and it's not a battle royale or any other kind of repetitive gamestyle among all known games around. If they decide to erase any even smallest element from original Planetside's idea of biggest ever territorial strategic fights in FPS genre with 2000 people on one map without loading screens, if they will raise their hands against this godlike idea, i will frickin sue them for killing my favorite franchise. Better for them to not even try.
the game is being sold again? yeah ok the game is cooked. since last time they made a whooooole bunch of promises and nothing, the issues isnt who buy it but who run it.
This can only mean 1 of 2 things to me 1: Another company wants to reboot, or continue developing he Planetside IP 2: Another company wants to squeeze $ out of a dying game over it's last couple years (5.9 million is VERY CHEAP, with a couple fancy patches, a bit of resurgence hype, and a more expensive cash shop, they could make that back in a year or two while destroying the game)
@@Nuclearburrit0 that slow deaths might of outlasted this purposed resurgence that (most likely) last as long as a muzzle flash. hard to say now, but god damn i hope you're right...but my gut says no.
All I'll say is this: when the game does die, I really hope it has a direct or spiritual successor because I have yet to see a good game out there that offers the kind of open world combined arms play that planetside does.
I remember downloading this game in 2012. It was my first fps ever and it set my expectations for any other game. 11 years and a couple of months later, still nothing comes close to the experience that planetside 2 gives
for the ssme experince irl, you could get a camping backpack and see hopw many things you can pout in it, then dump it all out and see if u can fit more things in it. every once in a while shoot a quarter with a bb gun to decide wether you get to put something else in the bacg or if u have to take something out@@derqatarzan4207
It would barely be noteworthy. PlanetSide's current mechanics, as presented in the current iteration, is just the worst of both worlds. You can't be as powerful by yourself as you can in say Battlefield, but it refuses to commit to anything more strategy demanding than just dog-piling more people on one capture zone than the other team. I would say Squad has straight up the better system. Meaningful construction and logistics, over huge maps with plenty of tactical opportunities and pitfalls. Fights can still be very intense without needing literally hundreds of players shoved into narrow spaces. And of course, actually talking to nearby people to coordinate and asking for information is basically mandatory.
Man, like, I know Planetside and the broader mmofps format hasn't been the kind of commercial success we've seen in recent years from games like Apex, Fortnite, League, GTA Online, and CSGO; however, it'd break my heart to see the IP go the way of modern BRs, looter shooters, etc for the sake of "Profit". There's something so incredibly distinctive to Planetside that just doesn't exist anywhere else on the market I'm gonna hold out hope (even if it's fueled by hopium) that the new IP holders made the purchase because they see Planetside as being a unique asset and a gateway into a market that hasn't been hit yet. Seeing the opportunity to take their own swing at a massive shooter, maybe tapping into the popularity of Battlefield and BattleBit. Ultimately, I'm gonna lean on the side of "you buy an IP for the name recognition and brand". And Planetside has a very specific brand
I actually don't think it'd be a Battle Royale, that subgenre seems to be losing steam. The Finals, for instance, is an absolutely fantastic game that nails the fundementals, yet its playerbase while good isn't a smash hit because it launched into an overcroweded genre. No, I think Helldivers (along w/ earlier titles like Deep Rock & Vermintide/Darktide) show us that the new trend in FPS games is non-zombie horde coop shooters, and I think that you could actually more easily convert the Planetside flavoring to _that_ subgenre, sacrilegious as it is. Think of a reskin of Helldivers with Planetside lore & aesthetics, where you play as any of the three factions and go against NPC enemies of the other two.
@@Black_Ace14 Call me in 5 years. I'm sure you think the CS formula still rates as popular in game design just because people play GO & Vallorant. Even at a high tide you can say it's going out. The tide is going out for BR. That's not the same as "dying", which I didn't claim, but it's not where the industry trend is anymore. I _will_ go on the record to say the biggest FPS hits of 2024, 2025, & 2026 each will _not_ be a BR.
It’s a shame this game has struggled so much and isn’t doing so well. I’ve drifted away from gaming as a whole quite a bit over the past year or so (idk if it’s permanent or just a dip) and I’ve felt a lil bad I haven’t been playing Planetside 2 haha. It’s a brilliant concept, tbh it’s a marvel of game engineering, and I’ve had a lot of love for it since I was a kid. If it is coming to an end soon hopefully one day another game comes along to carry on its legacy, directly or spiritually.
I think one of the biggest problems with PS2 vs PS1 is the resources/fuel of battle are way too abstracted. In PS1, bases lost power if they weren't resupplied by the nanite fuel truck known as the ANT. I suspect that they didn't add this system in because they were worried people would be bored by it, when it was one of the most exhilarating things you could do. convoys protected by air support and an attacking team doing everything they could to stop the resupply. It was great. And I guess that dovetails into the overall lack of diversity in PS2. You can play CoD, or World of Tanks, or Flight Simulator. There isn't really dedicated resupply drivers, or base engineers, or spies. People built roles with the tools they were given. But the class system really pigeonholes you. What if I want to be a medic sniper? Or an engineer hacker? Or a lightweight pilot with a rocket launcher? You don't really get those choices in PS2, because everything is class based and not inventory based. I get having to keep up with modern game sensibilities. PS1 is a game from 2003 and I'm an old man. I just think they gave up on way too many little things that could have done just fine in today that made it special.
The Planetside IP lost its magic when it went to PS2 in a lot of ways. No effective base defenses, instead opting for non defensive bases with multiple entrances on every level. You can't effective chokepoint or defend. It became a generic FPS shooter arcade with a larger lobby.
PS2 was relatively good at launch but only for a short while. And yes, the battles we had in PS1 were beyond legendary in scope and strategy IMO compared to any of PS2. You had to constantly adapt to the situation at hand (yay loadouts) and actually think hard about where you were going to contribute. Remember, we came from games that were NOT made for the wider audience aka "casual gamer". Games back then had more specific mechanics that allowed extra layers and complexity lending to absolute wonderful chaos (where PS players thrive let's be honest). Some younger players may be of the mind that newer is better but even veteran PS2 players know better. But I think they forget that #2 in the name. It came from a predecessor from a more raw time of gaming where games were at least more led by developers vs. publishers (games weren't at 'Big Business' level yet). But as with all things they change and the past melts away. I'm thankful to have played PS1 at launch in '03 - those memories are irreplaceable. No current game as marked even half the checkboxes while also matching anything near the scope of the original. PS1 was and may be for decades, the best attempt at blending group command based strategy with FPS. That level of cooperation just isn't seen with a wide audience game. I mean we were at Deep Rock Galactic levels of fervent team play let's be honest. And DRG is now seen as one of the 'first' (which is fine - it's a great game which makes a fine point on the importance of cooperation and being a core gameplay mechanic). We can still feed parts of our soul that were satiated on the whole with PS1, with current games. Again, DRG I highly suggest as well as Helldivers 2. They won't scratch the itch of thousands of autonomous players in the same field, but the feeling of hard core coop IS there and it's breathed new life into many of us veterans IMO. Remember that in all things, current generations always forget where things came from and that 'It's already been done but better' in many cases. But they also have different needs being 3rd and 4th generation video game players. That's a whole 'nother story but just understand that newer gamers on the whole just want/need different experiences. Although there will always be that fringe element that enjoys games based on older development values. Anyway, be thankful we had PS1 and had some of the best gaming experiences others will likely never have. And I know PS2 players feel the same way. I like to reminisce about PS1 and do place it over PS2 but #2's community are still our community and have the same concerns and desires that PS1 players do, just in a more modern gamespace. Maybe one day we'll all end up with something that scratches most of the itch. But you WILL have to dig for it amongst the endless waves of empty games constantly being released.
with the new release of Helldivers 2 I really see the potential for a successor of PlanetSide 2. Imagine a game that feels like helldivers and its 3 player factions waging war. *goosebumps*
I love the fact that shell companies are a thing. Shit can just move, money changes hands, and what actually happened or who owns what are both a total fucking mystery hidden behind an onion of legal bullshit.
let me clear up IPs a little bit for you. the ownership of a IP = the legal right to the branding, naming and associated assets. I.e the IP owner of Planetside makes a Royalty for all purchases made in the planetside IP, be that game sales, in app purchases, memberships, plushies, books etc etc. it is NOT a ownership of the game itself, and it is NOT a ownership of the studio behind the game. its a ownership of the BRAND. for example you could (if they wanted to sell it) buy the APPLE logo and name from APPLE, from then on you would be paid a royalty commision on every product sold in the APPLE name and LOGO branding. however, you would NOT be able to decide How apple is going to develop its next products, and IF they will. but apple would now have to get YOUR permission to make a new apple product. so in short IF Planetside 3 is to be made OR a planetside spinoff BAYTREE needs to approve it. as they are the only ones with a right to it. however for planetside 2 the only difference is, who gets a cut of the revenue, not how the game is developed or if its developed. overall this should have next to no impact on the game. HOWEVER this could mean they are looking to make a Planetside 3, or a spinoff game within the planetside IP and lore. be that with daybreak or a different studio. but they get no rights or ownership over planetside 2, (except for being able to cancel any contract for the IP license etc so daybreak could lose the IP at which point they wouldn't be able to make any new sales with the game, killing it)
Planetside 2 is one of my favorite games ever, and I felled in love with it met some very good ppl, but when the game started to … slowly die they left and I only stopped playing it in 2022 as it had hardly and players on it on console and we never got the construction update on console. I hope the new company brings the game back to life.
Man Cami, your take just made me think of the Command & Conquer IP, which has been abused and butchered ever since 4 and the idea of Planetside getting that treatment would be heartbreaking. But then maybe it would allow the old devs to get one crack again like they did with C&C remastered
I would play the hell out of planetside 2 remastered. Update the graphics and leave the mechanics (mostly) alone. Take my money lol. Also I whole heartedly agree with you. Fingers are crossed.
if it is what most suspect then its a question if they can squeeze any money out of it, if its run entirely nonprofit with the only money going in is severcost and securtiy then its probably safe
They're the US, Colorado based subsidiary of Bay Tree Private Equity- a UK firm. We are looking at a Heroes and Generals situation here most likely. They're going to attempt to monetize and squeeze whatever penny is left out of the game to recoup their purchase and then probably sell off the IP down the line. It is very easy to trace back companies like this with a bit of effort, don't know why all these places and UA-camrs are reporting on this without putting in the effort.
@I_Love_My_Little_Willy They don't have the money to license IP like that, nor would it get returns. They take community submissions for helmets, can stick one artist on reskins for events and it could maybe be sustainable. No promises though.
Haven't played this regularly in 10 years, but still one of the best online gaming experiences I've ever had. Such a layered experience between outfits, platoons and squads. I hope the Planetside franchise has a bright future.
I just hope the game or series can at least keep going. Because there's not many games like Planetside 2. I also love the lore and Empires, and i don't think you can replace those 3 Empires. Seeing fans and loyalty to the various factions is always a great thing to see.
I've been unable to play games due to personal things happening since 2022, leading to depression. As a HMRD member, I still love the general ideals of HMRD, which in my opinion, is to be a bit silly, avoid drama, try and fail and maybe succeed at tactical tic-tacs, and get hammered. Things have just been hard for me.
I don't want a sequel, I just want to continue playing Planetside 2, because it is and has always been an excellent and fun game. I hope their new owner dosen't enshittify the game to squeeze out cash.
I've always kept my eye on Planetside 2. I've played since beta and even dabbled in PS1 when I was little. I always hope PS2 does well but it has been difficult to get back into it after a couple years away. A persistent world is a huge selling point. I don't even play other shooters, just look to PS2 when I want to play FPS.
Interesting. I would hope that they take a third crack at the MMO FPS. As I think the concept is interesting, but I also think PS2 missed the mark in a number of ways. Free to Play is probably the only way it could work in the current age, but the problems it introduced to the system were there from day one. Especially with the way they reworked certs from being levels which allowed you to specialize in operating different pieces of kit, to unlocking upgrades for those pieces of kit and "working around" the need to purchase the guns with real world money. To cutting off the basic armor for each class to sell it back to the players as a cosmetic and the various camo paint-schemes causing just enough delay in recognition to unbalance fights against people with it. The big misstep I see was in launching with one big continent. In this, I think they fell for the marketing hype of the original during development, and didn't think through the mess it would make. The original promised 3-way fights of up to around 150 odd plays on each side. In practice, this never happened, because the individual islands made for battle corridors that segmented the fight into multiple fronts, each of which had their own front lines thanks to the lattice system forcing a small number of bases to be fought over on each continent. The Devs for PS2 further missed the mark here in base design... which is a long diatribe in its own right... but they took multiple ways to weaken and dislodge defenders while the defenders still had a strong advantage and turned everything into a King of the Hill frag-fest. I don't think PS2 is actually salvagable. But, I don't think someone would buy Planetside simply to shut it down as is. I am curious as to what they will do, but any news on that front is a long, long way off.
As a player that plays this game for 12 years I have no problem paying like 50 euro annually, for content that I think is great, if the content is outstanding I could even drop more, let's say a few hundred in the upcoming years. But that means this game need upgrades, like new textures, more voice packs and maybe a continent or two. Aside from that the game needs to stay the same to keep me playing this game, if for some reason they would change the core mechanics, then I will leave in a heartbeat. That said I will even want to pay some money to keep planeside 2 around! I know that when you like something very much you could help the developers keep this game running. Simular, if this game should get a succesor, then Planetside 3 needs to have all the core mechanics of planetside 2, if it does not, and it feels clunky and shitty like other first person shooters, then it is doomed.........I would litterly cry over it... ;)
It's happened twice. SOE was sold to Columbus Nova, and rebranded as Daybreak Games Company, which was sold to Enad Global 7. Even counting three with the current sale, it's hardly a 'crazy' number of times.
@@kaizokuAUTO Technically correct but Enad Global were just Columbus Nova using a different shell company. Which may well be the case this time as well, since they are still under investigation by the Feds for money laundering.
When is somebody gonna make a World War 2 or Modern Warfare "Planetside" ?? Hell, even a Medieval or Napoleonic Wars era Planetside-type game would be an instant hit.
THis game is so dope. strange how i search this game again as soon as this news came out. Now im hyped for the potential. Probably wont see if for a long time though
Before Christmas last year I didn't think I'd ever play the game again. Haven't stopped since I started again, damn it. Other games are vacations, games like this are home.
With the success of Helldivers 2 I could see a potential for revamping planetside and the global conquest warfare model of Planetside being popular again. although it will probably involve some sort of extract component because thats the new hotness.
@@CAMIKAZE78definitely like I said earlier on one of your streams one of the issues I have with the game is the population everything feels to spread out on big unstable continents
If planetside does get another sequal it needs to either return full send to what the original planetside had, or completely separate itself from what it is/was, what it had was a unique you needed a hacker to get in the base you had to capture the outposts first then plant bugs and viruses etc and then over run the facility with each faction having multiple planes, multiple ground vehicles weapons skillz etc. It was unique and what it turned into was...CTF with extra steps super dumbed down and even when it was released...behind the times as far as game mechanics go. So if it does get a squeal it will need to again return to form or be a massive departure maybe even story driven give the endless war and end or multiple endings who knows, only thing that makes me sad is if this gets shut down im going to be out thousands of dollars on cosmetics X3
5 Million for this game is dirt cheap in the Gaming Industry. This is getting gutted and sold off. They will squeeze this game for every penny of the initial Investment.
The current leading conspiracies are: 1) A salty vet bought the franchise. 2) Andy Sites convinced Amazon Game Studios to buy PlanetSide. Both are hilarious.
10:03 how the hell did he even see that infil there, i'm playing back multiple times and not seeing anything that gave the infil away before he started blasting
The last time I played this game was on pc and it was on the new water map they added. It was very sad and frustrating because there were very few people playing and the people me and my friend were encountering were like 4 or 5 people in a clan dropping in. So we couldn't really do anything to stop them capturing our stuff. The game is enjoyable though when you have someone to be your dedicated gunner in any vehicle and I do want either a sequel or another game like it.
so here's a few things, all this means is that from now on, royalties will have to be paid on the profits made to baytree, AND the exclusive right to create new planetside games, be that planetside 3 or other spinoff games will now be in baytrees hands, be that made by them or licensed to a studio. in theory it will not affect planetside 2 in any other way. they could take a active role in planetside 2 but ultimately they dont own the game. they own the branding. its as if someone was to buy the apple logo, or name from apple. they would still be able to use the logo, for a price, but apples products wouldnt be designed, or decided by the person that bought the logo. overall its a way to make money, you sell off a IP you dont intend to expand on. I.E they didnt have plans for a planetside 3 or other spinoff games in the future, so they no longer needed the IP rights to planetside. this is not a change of dev, change of director, or as you said company. and it should therefore not impact planetside 2 as a game whatsoever. unless daybreak decides to want to include the new IP owners in the development of planetside. in my opinion what we are seeing is someone wanting to invest into making a planetside sequel or spinoff.
I loved planetside 1 and 2, I played the hell out of Planetside 1, I stopped playing planetside two 7 years ago because my pc died and didnt have money to buy a new one, I really miss playing it, too bad it never got the amount of players it deserves, it's such a fun game at least by the time I didn't get to play it anymore.
i think that a plentside 3 announcement with tons of progress checkpoints/communication with a big STEAM release with MARKETTING would be enough. dont even have to change the game. im new to this game. its honestly a bit confusing at first. and even now its taken a friend to explain a ton of things to me. but, with that all said, its been phenominal. it really is a shooter than outshines most other shooters.
If you look at MetalCore, it has a similar story, when I played it had similar classes, as well as being considered a "MMOFPS" even though from what I've read and heard so far, they want to make it 50v50v50, and quite a bit of their focus is on using mech/BFRs? ImmutableX funds it, so they might have been working on Planetside 3 under an alias and plan on moving it in that direction.
I do think this is a sign of a positive future for the game. The recent changes and removal of the Conduit CTF system from some bases have had a noticeable impact on bringing combat to the many bases it was first implemented. These planned Sunderer changes i am not sure about yet however.
Its actually riskier to develop a arena, br, casual fps because the market is so saturated. Large scale fps is basically vacant and the only game that can compete with the planet side concept is battle bit. Of course its much cheaper and easier to ship out small scale fps. I've seen a lot of devs attempt to chase trends and fail miserably like planet side. Battlefield 2042 only had a years worth of dev time because they attempted to transform it into a br/tarkov clone. I want a planet side 3 and so do 1000s of other people. A game does not need to have 100k concurrent players to be a financial success and only a small percentage of games even approach that number anyway.
PS2 was my after-school obsession for years - I remember when it first started to decline. It makes me sad to see it in this state - kind of like watching your father, strong man that he is, wither away and become brittle, weak. Much like watching my father die slowly in mind-erasing agony part of me wishes Planetside would go out suddenly with a bang, just an announcement, maybe a cinematic, and then done. It would be better than watching something that meant so much (even parasocially) go like this. Maybe when it's good and dead we'll see something new - I don't expect it though. As I've aged I've come to view the future with suspicion and hatred.
I mean its a good game but the mechanics need an overhall, a new game would be an instant hint in my eyes, i feel like they would have a reslly good playerbase, but theres very few games people play that are 12 years old, the game is good, but outdated
I must of missed a bit, last time I checked in and played PS2 they just added in the boats and more water content, figured they were still going strong. Sad to see. As a vet of C&C Renegade it sucks to see the shooter genre gravitate towards the COD shooters and the sad state Battlefield is in now. We need these niche types of shooters to keep the fresh ideas and innovation coming in.
WOW never saw that coming, I havent played for a while due to not having the time but i loved the game due to the size of the wars which at times got insane with all the combined combat. fingers crossed it picks up again.
Planetside might be a niche game, but its my niche. The gaming community would lose something unique if it were to be pimped out as a generic shooter in future iterations.
Planetside 2 is still a great title, what id give to see it properly rebooted and rebuilt similar to the recent release of Helldivers 2. Add in some orbital ship to ship activities (i.e boarding, surface to orbit craft, ect..) and you might have a cool modern title on your hands...
What worries me the most is that it's a shell company. And,I wonder how far the copyright laws/IP protection laws go, to allow the new owners to potential shut down fan projects/competitors. I also wonder if the dev team are going to stay or being let go for another team/live support mode. At the same time,I dont blame RPG to sell it. The IP isnt really that successful, let alone profitable, for what it offers and cost to produce.
My conspiracy is something i thought about all week... Helldivers 2. Helldivers might have only had a handful of people in the world expecting its success, but someone was watching. And its kinda suspicious that this move happened within the timeline of release, and within the hype window. Someone may have been looking for a vulnerable IP that is Helldivers Adjacent to make a competitor, OR to set up a sale knowing that the IP has potential to go in that direction. Making it clear i know they are very different games with different goals, but sci-fi is making a huge comeback and the game industry is vulnerable right now, Investors make stupid decisions based on imaginary trends. I dont 100% think this is gonna happen but it is an interesting idea.
it would also be insane to not look at the figures from the first few years of planetside 2 that dropped and got pretty much no updates of worth and had no real monetization and to think that making PS3 and pumping it full of the current style of monetization would not make you a huge amount of money, The first few years of this game were dead from a development point of view but still had a playerbase so large it had more servers that were pretty much always packed out 24/7 there is no competition in the market of planetside 2 sure we have other first person shooters but the largest we have serve wise is battlebit and after that we have BF2042 and they dont even compete on a map and player count level of PS2 the market for this style of game has shown it has no competition and a long lasting playerbase.
I am hoping that this IP will not get the Blacklight Retribution treatment. Both these games came out the same year but BLR died because the dedicated dev team couldn't be dedicated enough. And I love both these games as they are the standard I hold most games up to.
I at least hope that I can finish my araxiom light machine guns to get the butcher. I've only made progress on TR and mainly with heavy assault, I would like to do just that one thing before the game goes six feet under.
Perhaps I was playing the game wrong but the last time I played planetside 2 I was fighting some high leveled guy that did not die no matter how much I shot him. I think the concept of this game is amazing but it will only ever reach its potential if there are drastic changes to the game. I think this acquisition sounds exciting. I don't know what the player-base thinks. perhaps they think I am completely wrong and if so I would love to know why because this was a game I regretted not being able to get into
If you hold the fire button, your bloom increases, making you extremely inaccurate. Besides that, he could've stimmed, overshield if he was playing Heavy, maybe you were shooting at a MAX mech, those take a ton of damage
I thought this game died when they whiped absolutely everything people had bought since release a few years back. Me and a few friends lost over 5000 dollars of micro transactions combined cause Daybreak Games basically felt like doing so. The answer we got? Swipe that card once more, no refunds.
I had some fun times on PS2 and I do hope that either the game or the franchise gets a resurgence at some point. But until then, I've got BattleBit to satisfy my large-scale multiplayer FPS itch. Plus, I just received my new calling as a defender of DEMOCRACY in HellDivers 2.
Nobody spend that much money just shot something down if they bought that game for the IP it’s because there’s some kind of development plan and the game can drag itself out the way it has been for years now but I don’t see that coming when I see, is that consumer monetization creeping in, somebody that wants to milk it for another 20 30 million before they shut it down
well. its 2024, aka 12 years after release... at this point a new game "Planetside 3" should be in the works, with better looking modern engine, taking the good things from 2 and working on the issue, that you cant fix with patches, cos they are so deep.
I think the problem with this game is performance. To run it at reasonable graphics and FPS you need a really good PC, especially for those huge battles. IF they could fix that the game could be saved
A half decent PC can run PS2 pretty well, except for some situations. The fact is that the graphically the game was already gimped, to placate those on crappy systems. It just made things worse. Now the game looks bad, as well as performing poorly in some contexts. Getting rid of the bloat - things such as construction for example, would go some way to ensuring better performance in more contexts. Then actually doing something about the abysmal tick rate and the awful server performance would improve things considerably.
I'm womdering tho, is the purchase really about the game? I mean, the company now owns all the IP rights tied to it, yes. But does that mean they just gonna squeeze some license fees put of DayBreak and hope it will be enough? Or are there other plans for it? Because, to be honest: a lot of people heard from PlanetSide as a game, yes. But the value of the IP lies in the universe and, probably even more, the designs of the characters! There's so much stuff you could make out of this. The most easiers being, well, some cheap mobile games with predatory monetization. Considering that Mobile publishers are ALWAYS on the hunt for new fuel for the blazing furnace that is the mobile games market, I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this: "Planetside: Battle for Auraxis", a "strategy game" like those you see so many ads on UA-cam. With all the screenshots and models from PS2, you could make some good marketing and milk the game dry. Release one of those titles every 2-3 years, and you got your investment back. On a less dark note: with the decline of BR and now extraction shooters on the rise, maybe they plan to sell out licenses for this universe to companies or publishers willing to make games in that genre (or whatever else is the next hype). PlanetSide is to this day somewhat recognized as a Shooter-IP, and I bet somebody will eventually be interested to develop a "trend chasing game" with it. The benefit would obviously be, that they don't have to make up a new IP with all the design concepts and such from scratch. And also, you already have a bunch of players and content creators, on which attention you can capitalize on. And the IP holders? They can just sit there, collect the license fees, give them out. If they're some private equity fund, that would make even more sense. Those people look for stable, profitable incomes. Not risky investments.
Love Planetside 2, it's an awesome enigma, such a compelling FPS with a formula that's genuinely unique among the entire gaming industry! Any night I hop on I know there're absolutely epic battles I can join my outfit in! Hope the new hands honor it and carry it forward! - The Wild Cards, Vanu Sovereignty, Connery
Me with my friends who are plain the game. We want only the best for it...Lets hope Amazon can carry it to better stages. More players need to know about planetside fr.
Honestly im sad disney didnt buy it, slap a star wars skin (with updated game engine and graphics on it) and literally print money out of thin air. The concept is the next step from the OG battlefront games (the ones they sre re releasing not that EA swill)
I see a good chance in a reenvisioned Planetside Arena like game. A new attempt trying to bring more structure and simplicity into the franchise to make it more accessible to a wider audience while still keeping the key elements of Planetside.
Honestly, I want PS1 back (minus the chicken walkers) but with updated graphics. PS2 was good and all. But I really miss the Thumper and spamming plasma grenades down the hallway during a backdoor defense.
The smartest thing they could do is targe t the mobile LATAM, MENA, Thailand, China, and India market. It is the biggest and loves FPS games (Freefire, PUBGM)

I tried to get into the game 2 times, and really liked it but quit after a a bit because i couldnt distinguish friend or foe. But the gameplay was good
Do Columbus Nova think this will keep working, to throw the Feds off? That's the question here. Though obviously PS2 is now such a mess and so unpopular that it can't even serve purpose for money laundering, which is why Columbus Nova bought it in the first place.

Rebrand incoming?? 👀 JK love you
THE MADLAD DID IT
@@mr.cookey Of course ;)
This can only mean 1 of 2 things to me
1: Another company wants to reboot, or continue developing he Planetside IP
2: Another company wants to squeeze $ out of a dying game over it's last couple years (5.9 million is VERY CHEAP, with a couple fancy patches, a bit of resurgence hype, and a more expensive cash shop, they could make that back in a year or two while destroying the game)
option 2 AKA heroes and generals
#2
that company could just launder money, imagine how ez it would be to just sell virtual goods for real cash
Thing is, even option 2 would be an improvement over the slow death PS2 is currently suffering.
True, this game is still so unique and not even niche in my opinion
Have the devs leak the code like the SWG devs did for private servers.
Exactly. I’d hoped the recent release of Helldivers 2 would be PVP for this reason
(Sadly it’s PVE, still a fun game though)
Foxhole is like the only game similar, but it’s waaay more complex
Planetside 2 only dies when Planetside 3 comes out and that's a fact.

Planetside 3 would be wild in the modern videogame ecosystem
It would not do well.
@@CharliMorganMusic It would do great. IF they made it right. Not only for eu us.
@@CharliMorganMusic it would have practically zero competition
@@Darkstar198 thats the point of planetside tho it's starship troopers but human vs human instead of human vs bug
There's something so incredibly distinctive to Planetside that just doesn't exist anywhere else on the market
I'm gonna hold out hope (even if it's fueled by hopium) that the new IP holders made the purchase because they see Planetside as being a unique asset and a gateway into a market that hasn't been hit yet. Seeing the opportunity to take their own swing at a massive shooter, maybe tapping into the popularity of Battlefield and BattleBit. Ultimately, I'm gonna lean on the side of "you buy an IP for the name recognition and brand". And Planetside has a very specific brand
Acknowledging the hopium is the first step my friend. We'll see what happens in the long run I guess.
Think of a reskin of Helldivers with Planetside lore & aesthetics, where you play as any of the three factions and go against NPC enemies of the other two.
if they turn it into a looter shooter you will witness a sea of vomit. fuck that.
Bro seriously said the battle royale genre is dying while apex and fortnite are played by thousands and thousands of pkayers daily 💀💀💀@@Low_commotion
Check out foxhole. It might not be something you like, but it at the very least has the logistical mechanics of which you are speaking.
The Planetside IP lost its magic when it went to PS2 in a lot of ways. No effective base defenses, instead opting for non defensive bases with multiple entrances on every level. You can't effective chokepoint or defend. It became a generic FPS shooter arcade with a larger lobby.
Agreed, PS1 was the better game. I just could not get into PS2.
@@bedlam1314probably a generational issue
with the new release of Helldivers 2 I really see the potential for a successor of PlanetSide 2.
I.e the IP owner of Planetside makes a Royalty for all purchases made in the planetside IP, be that game sales, in app purchases, memberships, plushies, books etc etc. it is NOT a ownership of the game itself, and it is NOT a ownership of the studio behind the game. its a ownership of the BRAND.
for example you could (if they wanted to sell it) buy the APPLE logo and name from APPLE, from then on you would be paid a royalty commision on every product sold in the APPLE name and LOGO branding. however, you would NOT be able to decide How apple is going to develop its next products, and IF they will. but apple would now have to get YOUR permission to make a new apple product. so in short
IF Planetside 3 is to be made OR a planetside spinoff BAYTREE needs to approve it. as they are the only ones with a right to it. however for planetside 2 the only difference is, who gets a cut of the revenue, not how the game is developed or if its developed. overall this should have next to no impact on the game.
It's because it is. You search for it,and basically nothing comes up
that’s how most acquisitions take place…
Shell companies are used for acquisitions like this all the time. On it's own, it's nothing to be concerned about.
@@Tabako-san It's not owned by the same people. Bay Tree Tower Limited is a Tencent shell company
This sounds like a move to enter maintenance mode. The PS IP just doesn't have the chops to make money.
@I_Love_My_Little_Willy They don't have the money to license IP like that, nor would it get returns. They take community submissions for helmets, can stick one artist on reskins for events and it could maybe be sustainable. No promises though.
It would be interesting if arrowhead bought it so they can make an even bigger helldivers game.

If I success in life, I will buy PS2 IP and I will save this game, it is my favorite game of all time and it hurts to see it die slowly
Planetside 2 PLEASE, this is such a unique genre of FPS I'd hate to see it die
As a vehicular support player. The sundi update was a blow to my fun. It is an absolute nightmare the way repairs and ammo sunderers work now.
Simular, if this game should get a succesor, then Planetside 3 needs to have all the core mechanics of planetside 2, if it does not, and it feels clunky and shitty like other first person shooters, then it is doomed.........I would litterly cry over it... ;)
Its crazy to me how many times this game has switched owners in its lifespan
It's happened twice. SOE was sold to Columbus Nova, and rebranded as Daybreak Games Company, which was sold to Enad Global 7.
Even counting three with the current sale, it's hardly a 'crazy' number of times.

With the success of Helldivers 2 I could see a potential for revamping planetside and the global conquest warfare model of Planetside being popular again. although it will probably involve some sort of extract component because thats the new hotness.
my biggest fear with planetside 2 is that we need more in game content. new vehicles, new guns, new aircraft. everything.
Hard disagree personally. The focus should be on addressing core gameplay problems at this point.
@@CAMIKAZE78definitely like I said earlier on one of your streams one of the issues I have with the game is the population everything feels to spread out on big unstable continents
Appreciate the video. Hoping for a better Planetside2 experience soon (or any game developed from the acquired IP).

I loved planetside 1 and 2, I played the hell out of Planetside 1, I stopped playing planetside two 7 years ago because my pc died and didnt have money to buy a new one, I really miss playing it, too bad it never got the amount of players it deserves, it's such a fun game at least by the time I didn't get to play it anymore.
i think that a plentside 3 announcement with tons of progress checkpoints/communication with a big STEAM release with MARKETTING
would be enough. dont even have to change the game. im new to this game. its honestly a bit confusing at first.
and even now its taken a friend to explain a ton of things to me.
but, with that all said, its been phenominal. it really is a shooter than outshines most other shooters.
Ah - good ol' Planetside 2 - I remember that. Cheers for the memories. Was good before Arena and space carriers.

Should've asked the community to raise that money, then make our own changes.
Currently nothing seems to have changed nor has any official announcement been made on the game platform... It's not looking good.
@@famulanrevengeance3044 I see. I was definitely hitting him I just dont know about the damage but maybe it was the mech thing
this game as of now could be on the top of sales charts if they released a planet side 3 within the next few years.
I thought this game died when they whiped absolutely everything people had bought since release a few years back. Me and a few friends lost over 5000 dollars of micro transactions combined cause Daybreak Games basically felt like doing so. The answer we got? Swipe that card once more, no refunds.
Mandela effect moments, I thought your name was always KAMIKAZE76 but looking through old videos it was always 78.
wait what. I always thought it was 76 as well
Just gaslighting the community since 2012.
Nobody spend that much money just shot something down if they bought that game for the IP it’s because there’s some kind of development plan and the game can drag itself out the way it has been for years now but I don’t see that coming when I see, is that consumer monetization creeping in, somebody that wants to milk it for another 20 30 million before they shut it down
Inb4 PS2 being turned into a mobile game with insane mtx.
It might be copium but somebody buying the copyrights specifically makes me hopeful for a proper sequel. A MAN CAN DREAM!
No existe otro juego que te de la experiencia de juego que nos da planetside2, es incomparable, mas de 10 años jugandolo
well. its 2024, aka 12 years after release... at this point a new game "Planetside 3" should be in the works, with better looking modern engine, taking the good things from 2 and working on the issue, that you cant fix with patches, cos they are so deep.
Damn I used to love this game, peaked at number 7 in the world, got to meet people like totalbiscuit was a wild time a decade ago
This man has been my one stop shop for game info when it comes to PS2, love the info and content. you're wonderful
There are 812 pople playing now. If they TOTALLY revamp the maps it could be AWSOME. They could be simply shutting it down.
I spent as much money as I could to support planetside since it was in alpha lol. It’s sad to see it go, but I stopped playing 2 years ago
the teams message noise at 9:23 gave me a panic
Love Planetside 2, it's an awesome enigma, such a compelling FPS with a formula that's genuinely unique among the entire gaming industry! Any night I hop on I know there're absolutely epic battles I can join my outfit in! Hope the new hands honor it and carry it forward!
- The Wild Cards, Vanu Sovereignty, Connery
Understood the Camikaze76 reference and had a good laugh :D
Why do I get the suspicion that they want to recreate their own Helldivers 2 but with Planetside?
Me with my friends who are plain the game. We want only the best for it...Lets hope Amazon can carry it to better stages. More players need to know about planetside fr.
Honestly im sad disney didnt buy it, slap a star wars skin (with updated game engine and graphics on it) and literally print money out of thin air. The concept is the next step from the OG battlefront games (the ones they sre re releasing not that EA swill)
Take your Disney crap somewhere else. There is a reason battlefront died so fast years.
Hell is other people. Game is a great structure and good in general, the frustration is generally community driven.
Dude whenever I watch a video from you. I watch that damn intro over and over again. Such a beautiful entrance....
Cheers mate, glad you like it! :D
I used to be the owner of the TR clan LUXE. Anyone remember that? I used to lead huge air battles. Think there's some footage around if you look up my clan. [LUXE]Murk
Upcomming Camikaze return to ps2 ?...
Negative my friend. The game would need to improve and change significantly for me to make a return.
