Planetside 3 would be awesome for sure. No other game like that exists currently on the market. Every new year we just get more of the same shit we already have enough of (Battle Royal or Arena/Hero Shooter). If someone would kickstart a game like Planetside, I would fund it simply out of desperation.
it would be, it'd need to be the exact same game but with balance perfection, graphics overhaul and new maps, weapons, assets in general etc.. no big change in gameplay
@@cloter2079 If the IP has been sold, it also has to be more profitable - this would mean making the game somewhat rewarding to whales and draw in as much of a curious playerbase as possible in the hope of them sticking
Toadman was already on the list of Planetside 2 developers, because they had already worked on the game a few years ago, they were transferring the game to the new DirectX. Now they joined as the main developers only in DECEMBER 2023.
Man the corporate structure seems complicated. It is hard to tell who is responsible for what. What is worrisome with Astrapto owning the ip is that they can just milk it with no concern for development. They can sit on it for a decade just waiting for their windfall if they so chose.
I still wonder how Planetside 2 would do in terms of future development and performance if Sony reacquired the IP and handled developing the game, I am starting to agree with some people saying that back in 2015-2016 when all this started and Higby left that's when Planetside 2 began going downhill.
The true tragedy is that there is no demand for games like this. Twenty years ago we just assumed it would be a thing. Instead we have Fortnight and COD. A bunch of garbage with aim-assist, no friendly fire, and no first-person. We're in such a gaming dark-age. The nubs don't even know.
In the near future, for sure. But I'm sure even after PS2 is long dead someone will realize how lucrative Planetside could be and make something of it, or at least something similar.
Space marine 2 was the same for a while, it was passed to a new developer and given life. The possibility is still there, but it lies far in the future.
You have no idea what you're talking about, and neither do the people that upvoted you. When ArenaNet announced Guild Wars 2 barely anyone remembered the original game. Most MMO fans hadn't even played it at all. And not only did that game happen, it was a huge commercial success. As was already mentioned, Space Marine 2 is another example of that. The original was an excellent game that only a relatively small audience knew about. And yet, over a decade later, it got its well deserved sequel. So no, it's not "a pipe dream for people living in a different reality". It's a very real possibility. And you'd do well to stop being so smug when you clearly don't know shit.
I miss the potential of what this game could have been, but those pesky greedy shareholders have no idea what they could have built with this franchise. I didn't want to, but I quit this game because of the negativity from both current and past players. My final active years, I was nearly always playing solo or with small groups just to avoid hearing people talk awfully about the devs.
As long as this game is still alive I'm happy. I never want to see my beloved game die
It's on life support brother
Planetside 2 has a number of ongoing issues, including a declining population and in-game hackers.
Well, bad news bud. Time to prepare the sad party hat
there’s 717 average players with peak players being 1.3k. That’s barely enough to fill one server. the game has no way of surviving in the long term.
is dead
I really wish the EG7 CEO wasn't an idiot
2 decades of fun, I’ll miss Planetside

Thank you so much for explaining this, about one of my favourite games of all times.
Love your dedication to researching for your PS2 community!
I feel like PS3 would be successful.
I’d be super hyped for it.
When ? People always mention it as a joke, kinda like half-life 3

Always helpful Commander, thanks.
Thanks for your continued videos, really appreciate it
Thanks for being there to watch them
Thank you for the updates as always. You always make good sense of things.
I have a feeling that the devs in Serbia are the ones who develop PS2, cause I remember a while back the added the Serbian flag to PS2

Nah it started before Higby left and much of it was likely his fault. When it comes to Planetside, he's a moron.

if you think about it, in a different time line, PS3 is a thing and successful

Maybe one day when the aliens they will give us a third PlanetSide and a third Half-Life.
Can we get like 2 or 3 people to work on consoleside for a bit
*Thanks for explaining. Henry Zhou won't reply about Planetside 1 IP rights. Who off linkedin would be good to try next?*
Hey Cyrius, are you going to make that talk with Wrel?

Pour a little out for the ol’ gal.
I play on PS if anyone wanna go Planetside together!
Hello it's me john planetside I own 100% of planetside.
Why it must be so complicated ? XD
How did you make your game look so sharpened?
Game is dying, this is a sad time to me.
I was here
What's your next game if planetside dies?
Gardening and home renovations.
Nothing - since there is nothing remotely similar to it.
I'm just getting out of fps games, gonna probably retire into factorio, gladius and supreme commander
If/when the game dies, I hope that kind people can make an unofficial server, like many MMO projects have.
