For me there are no longer big battles there are some good size but thats usually just 2 balconys spamming grenades at each other or a sniper battle but when you get to like a bridge best fun I've ever had it's like a real war but my squad never has a mic channel so its aimless chaos still fun tho

I have to admit the battlefront beta looks great, im going to play it tonight in fact but i would still be cautious, don't underestimate the darkside. EA could fuck this up by riddling the game with micro transactions or through a multitude of other ways, I just hope they wont...

***** I roam as light assault, as soon as a battle nears me I grab medic or max and follow a group of infantry as if I were one of them. Once the battle is over or has shifted away I go back behind my lines and upgrade.
Planetside 2 had a event, there was a funeral for a person who died while playing the game. A group of people attacked the funeral building and that led to them getting banned :I
rogue498 True. I was in a game today where my faction had no less than an 80% XP bonus for nearly the whole time. I earned more than 300 certs in about 2 hours.
TheMrTeeMan Here's a good loadout that I use if you want it: Be a heavy assault and look at your abilities. When you start off as heavy assault, you'll have a shield ability, but it kinda sucks. Swap it out with the other shield ability (can't remember the name, nanite armor maybe?) that will create a light green/red/blue (faction specific) shield around you. That's the key to winning lots of firefights. Next, you'll want a better gun. The pistol isn't too important, but your primary should be either the NS-7 PDW or the NS LMG (can't remember the exact name, but it's hard to miss. Looks like an assault rifle with a huge ass magazine.) You'll probably want a grip (you can alternatively get extended mags for the PDW if that's your thing), compensator, and a sight of your choosing on these guns. You'll also need a rocket launcher that can lock onto vehicles, as vehicle kills/assists will net you some huge experience. Also, some single-use health kits are very beneficial since a lot of medics do fuck all to help their team in this game, but you don't have to buy them if you choose not to. This setup will cost you a *lot* of initial certs, but the payout is incredible once you adapt to the playstyle that goes along with it. I use this loadout all the time and I love it.

Might be time for a rereview, and play around with some of the newer guns and the newest vehicle, the Valkyrie, or the fact that you get 100 certifications every time you level up, until level 15. Or even the newbie continent, Koltyr, where new players have a much more controlled area to learn the ups and downs of the game.
yeah I noticed that you can get rid of your high damage/low accuracy gun for a low damage/high accuracy gun and shit. Really no reason to spend any of these points unless you start off with a weapon that has no damage
+Der Kaiser agreed I was going to buy weapons till I watched a vid on UA-cam telling me to work on my characters and I quickly upped my engineer and my medic now I am earning enough certs to upgrade my other classes as well.
I don't just look up planet side 2 how toos and a guy would give the best tips, he said to just work on your characters and not waste anything on guns or stuff like that.
I get on average 80 certs an hour, you really need to pick your battles as there are some battles that can easily get 110 certs or so every 40 minutes or sometime go for an hour and barely get over 30 certs.
i revise my comment to be this: star wars skyrim style. open galaxy. it would need to have a large budget, and be a collaborative effort between Bioware and Dice respectively.

+Tail Fox Yes, and it's come a long way from when this review was done. There's a resource gathering and construction system, more weapon model variety, increased certification point game (which is still a little grindy for free players, but a lot better since having members/boosted players in your squad benefits everyone) and a better commander interface.
This is sooo outdated now, there is a strong community around it now and a fair few UA-camrs who people might get a better idea of the game in its current state from. :)
As a seasoned MAG veteran, clan leader, and a Raven captain, I am very excited to get my hands on this game. If you never played MAG, it is basically the same thing with smaller scale maps. 256 people in Domination was crazy, and some of the most epic and insane things happened there. It was the best FPS i have ever played. Planetside takes the concept to a whole new level. And when it releases on PS4 this year, a new Raven will emerge from the shadows, and DTA Dark Firebird will rise once again into the new console era.
I remember MAG back when they really pushed the limits of how many people can be in one map at a time with 256people. Good times, although i have a feeling i'll be raining down hell fire on your party as i tbag what remains of your dead corpse. lol

Game is fun, but it is really confusing in the beginning. It doesn't help either that the minimap is a clusterfuck of tiny icons that you can barely see what they are suppose to resemble, especially when there is a huge assault on a base and enemy red dots and friendlies are all over it. One thing it does have over other war games of this type is that the battlements are swarming with players, which create choke points all over the place. It's not like Battlefield where players run around on their own and its 1 one 1 half the time. It's also nice that you can climb basically any terrain or hill to get off the beaten path. No invisible walls in this game. It's also pretty impressive how well this game runs, considering the amount of shit going on at once. It really boggles my mind how this game can run so well with literally several hundred players fighting over the same outpost/base, and runs buttersmooth with no lag (actual latency issues, not your PC being shit), and other games struggle with less than half that.
Use check what keys you've bound to the minimap zoom buttons, and use those. Zoomed out is great when you're outside of bases, and zoomed in is sweet when you're inside them.
You can zoom out and in the map with the [ and ] keys. It is very useful for when you go from infantry to vehicles. I do agree though the tutorial didn't explain enough. But there IS a shit ton of things in the game it would be a very long tutorial lol
YOU EARN CERTS MUCH FASTER NOW. And they literally flow to you if you are playing PS4. Pay no attention to the part of this review that talks about the certs, its out of date.
DarkNation Play as a support class (Engineer or Medic) and help your team. Medic always revives and Engineer always repair and get rid of heavy armor. Stay with a group and capture objectives. Don't stay in a zerg because you would die over and over. People participate in zergs only to farm newbs.
+DarkNation Also you might consider joining a good squad/outfit. By good I mean one which have a plan and good tactics. Follow the waypoint, support your team, and also watch videos about which weapon you should buy first. Not all are good for you, even those which cost 1000 CP. You should check Vrel's channel for more info about weapons.
Looking back now, it's interesting how on point he is in this review. All of his criticisms were very valid at launch and many of his suggestions like locking continents, cross-faction weapons and increased cert gain for free players were addressed in later updates.

Yeah, not gonna lie, if you join an outfit or a clan and play this, it is a badass game, especially when you get into the massive assaults on large bases or the absolute madness that is trying to storm biolab facilities. Probably the only reason I don't play it anymore is that I have trouble getting it to run well on my PC :P Angry Joe ain't kidding, you need a pretty high-end machine to handle this game. Not super high end, but certainly above average.
This needs a re-do. They've introduced better tutorials and more features as well as better optimization. In addition, the cert system has been updated and its faster to get certs.
You say it's boring to play alone and yet I had the most fun you can have while playing the Infiltrator class. Sitting in a corner while watching the enemies preparing their tactics is just priceless xD

Daybreak took a lot of your advice to heart. Really adding vehicles. Weapon types. Increasing cert gain. Player built bases that can then operate artillery and pump out free certs to all players on its team.
Your points on the station cash and cert points are valid. However, one can play the game just fine without unlocking anything at all. Yes, the guns are expensive, but take a look at the other things one can unlock using certs: suit upgrades, vehicle modifications, and weapon attachments are just a few examples. If one could unlock items and weapons any faster than one can currently, the average player would be able to unlock everything and be left with little progression if they wished to keep playing. Luckily, Planetside 2 is not a game about progression, as Planetside 1 showcased so well. No, it is a game about tactics and teamwork. No gun upgrade can beat that immensely satisfying feeling of storming a base as a large group in a gigantic firefight and holding down the capture point, fending off the hordes of enemy as your reinforcements arrive and you take the base.
+Rhoss Ingan True, you get 1000 certs in 4 hours, thats not kind of a great deal really, also most of the things you buy with DB-cash are unlocked on every Character of yours, if the thins isnt faction-specific.
I didn't pay anything and I enjoy this game so much. You can easily play with starting weapons and slowly earn other stuff. I can honestly say it isn't pay to win game, tho it is much faster if you put some money in. And for that game developers deserve some credit to balance very well that free to play and pay stuff. Also all 3 factions and classes are well balanced. It's very good, epic game, first shooter MMO, with infantry, aircrafts, tanks all at the same time on the battlefield with hundreds of people fighting.
I grinded a 100 certs - enough for a good attachment or vehicle turret - within an hour xD It's painfully easy if you actively try. 2 enemies for a Cert point, isn't THAT bad for a f2p.
I kinda wish there were a game JUST like this, but with star wars. Imagine hoards of AT-STs running into a battlefield, then being taken out by rebel rocket launchers while stormtroopers bring up the rear and take out the launchers to make way for the AT-ATs to solidify the battle line, acting like a sunderer. Or something equivalent from the clone wars. Plus....Pretty lazers

I kind of switch between VS and NC. I personally think that both are pretty good, but you know, my friends say that VS is cool cuz lazers. So when i play with them i play VS, when alone i play NC. (Still, i like NC a little bit more :D )
Everytime you see an NC tank convoy, you should pull off your glasses, say "mother of god", and pull up on YT the episode of The Office where he starts yelling "god please no". That describes an NC tank column.

The thing I love most about this game is the fact that when you play by yourself, you can feel as insignificant as an ant among giants, or when leading the charge, supporting your team, or just being in a squad, you can feel like the driving force of the front lines! And that is such a cool feeling!
I actually find teaming up with random players (not squad, just start to follow them and attack together.) Really fun. I like playing alone because of that reason, and because most squads consist of low level players.
sometimes playing alone can change things. you may ghost cap bases. or attract attention of enemies to you. sometimes when i played alone enemies overpop 10 to 1. So it's 9 less people fighting somewhere else.
Wow. I had never seen this review. It hits the nail on the head with what was wrong with the game upon release. I am impressed with how many of the issues Joe raises have been addressed by SOE, and how many have yet to be dealt with. Knowing that this is over a year old, I find the insight Joe has to be impressive. I would love to see a re-review now that the game has been through many changes.
It is worth noting that in the nearly two years since this video went up, a lot of the concerns have been addressed. Fourth continent. Additional benefits for membership which is all-access. So 15$ a month is for all SoE games now. At least a but more worth it in that aspect. Continent locking is a thing. In-game voice is greatly improved and graphical issues and crashing are far less frequent, I don't even really get them anymore. Just the occasional framerate hit because my computer needs an upgrade about this time.(I get the same thing in other games) Though when he made this video. Joe here was totally right, the game did have issues they've since managed to MOSTLY smooth out. No game's perfect, but Planetside 2 actually has me coming back every so often and picking it up for weeks at a time.
In-game voice is shit. Most of the time, it doesn't even work. I'm constantly hearing people in prox asking if squad voice is broken. That is, on the days that prox is working itself. Sony has been caught dropping the kbps on the in-game voice several times, and they only raise the quality again when people start bitching about it. Half the time the service doesn't even seem to be working. It's clear from their actions they wish they hadn't included it at all.
yes, i watched this video and didn't even understand whats wrong with voice. some outfits prefer external software for voice chats but i don't see any need to install it.
I would like to point out that some of the things in this review are obsolete. There are guns that carry over to all characters (Nanite system weaponry), certs are much easier to earn than in 2012, and there is a reason to capture the continents (HUGE EXP bonus and half price for ground vehicles, MAXes, air vehicles, or infantry stuff (grenades etc). For those of you who haven't tried PS2 and are using this to consider it.
I really enjoyed this game when I first started playing it...but after a few hours, I realized that nothing me or my team was doing really mattered. Someone would just come in and take some sector we took earlier, then we'd go to defend it, rinse and repeat. There's no goal, there's no end game. It ultimately drove me to lose interest, unfortunately.

I don't want to sound like a naive fanboy, but what this game does on a global scale in the video game industry is amazing. Think about the message this sends to EA and IW. A massive game, free to play, innovating new game mechanics and extremely well done game with high production value. This is what we should expect to see in games, but no not even on full priced or subscription games do we see this level of value.
can you please re-review planetside 2, many updates have changed the game completely for the better and truly makes it a unique one of a kind game but we fear the game is dying with the population being much lower than it originally was in 2012.

Some time later a wormhole, one which scientists fail to explain, appears and then disappears without a trace. Ex-President of the Terran Republic, Tom Connery, believes that the wormhole is a sign of existing extraterrestrial life and launches several space expeditions. The first expedition to Moon Belt gives a lead-a figurine of alien nature-giving Connery a reason to start a second expedition further into space. Several Terran Republic ships travel through the wormhole and are stranded for a very long period of time; their situation grows dire. Just over 9 years old and we got a new continent with water fights, beach landings, and soon a new aquatic vehicle. Seriou. We can fly our fighters into the water and become a submerssible to get our subnautica vibe going. The game is still going strong. Angry Joe, do a new review please.
I played this game for 30 minutes-I was addicted. Here I am, 159 hours into the game, and I've upgraded my main class so he is so OP that I can fend off even the strongest of opponents. Each class has been played, and I've enjoyed all of them. The controls are standard, which is a great thing, and the graphics are very beautiful. That being said, it is one of the most resource demanding games I have ever played. It heated up my PSU, and hit a 100% GPU load with a 60-degree celcius temperature. And even after I closed out of the game, my computer was sluggish for another 15 minutes afterwards.
With games like this I always feel like it should start you out with a solid amount of points or whatever at the start. For instance each character would start with 3000 certs which would give you enough to specialise or at least enough to play around with.
Almost every issue that he's highlighted has been changed and improved or outright re-made. Continents are now locked and more balanced (mostly, sometimes there's still a 5% difference). There's now tutorials, joining outfits/squads is extremely easy with an easy chain of command (*Alert* Easy chain of command In the TEXT CHAT, The Voice is still horrible) and all the gun aesthetics are incredibly changed, now you can see what type of gun you're being shot by by one look. And they have new bases from 2012 that require an entire changeup in tactics and sometimes if defended by even a quarter of the attack population are almost impossible to take. and the bugs and issues are almost all fixed, none of them are as bad anymore at all

Since this review, the game has been Greatly improved, there's an extensive tutorial before you actually fight! prices for weapons have been lower. kills give alot more exp etc. the game has been optimized and its just 2x better since last year!
Somebody needs to explain to me how we're in 2019 and no video game company has decided to make a massive, big scale FPS game like PlanetSide 2. I can't be the only one who thinks that a well brought game like this would work really well. It could also break the Battle royale genre. And anyway... It's not like we've had any good games lately.

You can play 4 hours now, and have 1000 Certs. And a few medals....wich gives you bonus weapons. Also every Weapon you buy with real money, you get on every of your acc`s. If you choose ns weapons of course. And if you spend 20 Euro (yes im europe) thats like ca. 25 Dollars, like you spend for a game of that quality. Spend one time 20 Euro, and buy yourself a camo. You only need one, wich you like, they are available on every faction. Than buy a helmet. Done.
I hit level 100 in less than half a year w/o spending a dollar on the game. That's faster leveling than other MMOs. In return I reported a ton of bugs and cheaters :P This game has a problem with aimbotters and such, especially because it's pvp
well perhaps I hit level 100 in over half a year, can't remember. truth is you are slow in the beginning because you don't have the experience and the certs, but afterwards you improve and leveling is not a grind even in the end
Love the game but the tutorial should not end with clicking that useless instant action button, level 1s raining from the sky into the middle of enemies.. pointless.
the tut sucks anyway. It doesnt even tell you how to melee. or how to fly a plane. and a bunch of other usefull stuff you need to know. they at least could have putted in extra optional training, like a sniper training that would also tell you about bullet drop
Gage Cook Isnt VR basicly just testing weapons without instruction (dunno, never tried). i would have liked some sniper training to make me aware of bullet drop earlier, or a instructed course on how to fly, or perhaps a note that other than nearly every god-damned other game with cloaking, that you do not uncloak when trying to shoot. but just dont shoot at all. or the turret. in the beginning, i thought it was a automated turret. and how about telling us " Hey, if you wanna make your sunderer a respawn point, buy that 50 cert thing first". oh yea, that is another, MAJOR problem of the game: the amazing lack of starter stuff. i can understand most, but they should make a start shotgun, start smg/scout rifle, make the AA rocket launcher starter, make a starter rocket pod for aerial superiority fighters so they arent useless for beginners, and ofc much of the necessary cheaper stuff to be made free like the sundy deploy. add with this c4, prox mines, and weapon attachments and scoped, and you basicly need to spend near 4000 certs just to play the game as it is meant to be played. complete BS if you ask me
Joe, you should re review this in a couple months, almost everything like bugs have been fixed, and the tutorial is far better. The only issues that remain are the price gougings and a tad bit too slow cert acquisition. As for the background lore, it still needs improvement.
As of 2019 Game still has enough players to be fun, although the population decayed a lot: only one continent wil be open most of the time, sometimes 2. Certs are still slow to obtain, though at least guns look very different between eachother now. There is events, although they don't affect gameplay much, outside of those allowing players to purchase MAX suits or aircraft (that event being centered around an airborn anomaly, which encourager full-on air battles with little to no ground interference) for free instead of spending a special currency that reloads slowly over time to get them (and which is basically in place only to limit the number of vehicles, MAX suits and high explosives that a given player can use in a limited time). Conquering the map at least leads to the map getting nuked by orbital strikes the color of your team, although this is almost entirely cosmetic. They added a base-building system, where players can mine nodes around the map and use that special ressource to build a base. They can contain respawn points and automated turrets, as well as an artillery system and even an orbital gun, which can prove to be a gamechanger in a fight and is a rzeason enough to try and destroy said bases. Overall, daybreak gets a lot of criticism for how they handle the game, and are reputed to be completely deaf to suggestions, however the game is stable, and it's mainly how they handle balance that is heavily criticized. Still a game worth playing by any means though, and clearly got improved since its beginnings

TheMrTeeMan Here's a good loadout that I use if you want it:
Be a heavy assault and look at your abilities. When you start off as heavy assault, you'll have a shield ability, but it kinda sucks. Swap it out with the other shield ability (can't remember the name, nanite armor maybe?) that will create a light green/red/blue (faction specific) shield around you. That's the key to winning lots of firefights.
Next, you'll want a better gun. The pistol isn't too important, but your primary should be either the NS-7 PDW or the NS LMG (can't remember the exact name, but it's hard to miss. Looks like an assault rifle with a huge ass magazine.) You'll probably want a grip (you can alternatively get extended mags for the PDW if that's your thing), compensator, and a sight of your choosing on these guns.
You'll also need a rocket launcher that can lock onto vehicles, as vehicle kills/assists will net you some huge experience.
Also, some single-use health kits are very beneficial since a lot of medics do fuck all to help their team in this game, but you don't have to buy them if you choose not to.
This setup will cost you a *lot* of initial certs, but the payout is incredible once you adapt to the playstyle that goes along with it. I use this loadout all the time and I love it.

Quite a bit has changed since this review. Might be time for a rereview, and play around with some of the newer guns and the newest vehicle, the Valkyrie, or the fact that you get 100 certifications every time you level up, until level 15. Or even the newbie continent, Koltyr, where new players have a much more controlled area to learn the ups and downs of the game.

yeah I noticed that you can get rid of your high damage/low accuracy gun for a low damage/high accuracy gun and shit. Really no reason to spend any of these points unless you start off with a weapon that has no damage

I get on average 80 certs an hour, you really need to pick your battles as there are some battles that can easily get 110 certs or so every 40 minutes or sometime go for an hour and barely get over 30 certs.

As a seasoned MAG veteran, clan leader, and a Raven captain, I am very excited to get my hands on this game. If you never played MAG, it is basically the same thing with smaller scale maps. 256 people in Domination was crazy, and some of the most epic and insane things happened there. It was the best FPS i have ever played. Planetside takes the concept to a whole new level. And when it releases on PS4 this year, a new Raven will emerge from the shadows, and DTA Dark Firebird will rise once again into the new console era.
I remember MAG back when they really pushed the limits of how many people can be in one map at a time with 256people. Good times, although i have a feeling i'll be raining down hell fire on your party as i tbag what remains of your dead corpse. lol

one thing for sure, the reward for certification points IS WAY TOO LESS and the WEAPONS IS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE , they seriously need to change it .
Game is fun, but it is really confusing in the beginning. It doesn't help either that the minimap is a clusterfuck of tiny icons that you can barely see what they are suppose to resemble, especially when there is a huge assault on a base and enemy red dots and friendlies are all over it.
One thing it does have over other war games of this type is that the battlements are swarming with players, which create choke points all over the place. It's not like Battlefield where players run around on their own and its 1 one 1 half the time. It's also nice that you can climb basically any terrain or hill to get off the beaten path. No invisible walls in this game.
It's also pretty impressive how well this game runs, considering the amount of shit going on at once. It really boggles my mind how this game can run so well with literally several hundred players fighting over the same outpost/base, and runs buttersmooth with no lag (actual latency issues, not your PC being shit), and other games struggle with less than half that.
this game confuses everybody in the beginning. Enable the rotating minimap and assign minimap-zoom to the mousewheel helped me a lot.
Use check what keys you've bound to the minimap zoom buttons, and use those. Zoomed out is great when you're outside of bases, and zoomed in is sweet when you're inside them.

DarkNation Play as a support class (Engineer or Medic) and help your team. Medic always revives and Engineer always repair and get rid of heavy armor. Stay with a group and capture objectives. Don't stay in a zerg because you would die over and over. People participate in zergs only to farm newbs.
+DarkNation Also you might consider joining a good squad/outfit. By good I mean one which have a plan and good tactics. Follow the waypoint, support your team, and also watch videos about which weapon you should buy first. Not all are good for you, even those which cost 1000 CP. You should check Vrel's channel for more info about weapons.

Looking back now, it's interesting how on point he is in this review. All of his criticisms were very valid at launch and many of his suggestions like locking continents, cross-faction weapons and increased cert gain for free players were addressed in later updates.
AngryJoeShow I think a "1 year later review" is called for. The game has been optimized and polished a lot now. Some problems still persist, but they are a lot fewer now.

Well, for the instant drop. It depends. If you hit the box that says "Skip Tutorial" then no, there isn't an instant drop. Otherwise you MUST instant drop. After the tutorial of course.

Yeah, not gonna lie, if you join an outfit or a clan and play this, it is a badass game, especially when you get into the massive assaults on large bases or the absolute madness that is trying to storm biolab facilities. Probably the only reason I don't play it anymore is that I have trouble getting it to run well on my PC :P Angry Joe ain't kidding, you need a pretty high-end machine to handle this game. Not super high end, but certainly above average.

Your points on the station cash and cert points are valid. However, one can play the game just fine without unlocking anything at all. Yes, the guns are expensive, but take a look at the other things one can unlock using certs: suit upgrades, vehicle modifications, and weapon attachments are just a few examples. If one could unlock items and weapons any faster than one can currently, the average player would be able to unlock everything and be left with little progression if they wished to keep playing. Luckily, Planetside 2 is not a game about progression, as Planetside 1 showcased so well. No, it is a game about tactics and teamwork. No gun upgrade can beat that immensely satisfying feeling of storming a base as a large group in a gigantic firefight and holding down the capture point, fending off the hordes of enemy as your reinforcements arrive and you take the base.

I didn't pay anything and I enjoy this game so much. You can easily play with starting weapons and slowly earn other stuff. I can honestly say it isn't pay to win game, tho it is much faster if you put some money in. And for that game developers deserve some credit to balance very well that free to play and pay stuff. Also all 3 factions and classes are well balanced. It's very good, epic game, first shooter MMO, with infantry, aircrafts, tanks all at the same time on the battlefield with hundreds of people fighting.
I grinded a 100 certs - enough for a good attachment or vehicle turret - within an hour xD It's painfully easy if you actively try. 2 enemies for a Cert point, isn't THAT bad for a f2p.

Imagine hoards of AT-STs running into a battlefield, then being taken out by rebel rocket launchers while stormtroopers bring up the rear and take out the launchers to make way for the AT-ATs to solidify the battle line, acting like a sunderer. Or something equivalent from the clone wars. Plus....Pretty lazers

The thing I love most about this game is the fact that when you play by yourself, you can feel as insignificant as an ant among giants, or when leading the charge, supporting your team, or just being in a squad, you can feel like the driving force of the front lines! And that is such a cool feeling!
I actually find teaming up with random players (not squad, just start to follow them and attack together.) Really fun. I like playing alone because of that reason, and because most squads consist of low level players.

sometimes playing alone can change things. you may ghost cap bases. or attract attention of enemies to you. sometimes when i played alone enemies overpop 10 to 1. So it's 9 less people fighting somewhere else.
Wow. I had never seen this review. It hits the nail on the head with what was wrong with the game upon release. I am impressed with how many of the issues Joe raises have been addressed by SOE, and how many have yet to be dealt with.
Knowing that this is over a year old, I find the insight Joe has to be impressive. I would love to see a re-review now that the game has been through many changes.

It is worth noting that in the nearly two years since this video went up, a lot of the concerns have been addressed. Fourth continent. Additional benefits for membership which is all-access. So 15$ a month is for all SoE games now. At least a but more worth it in that aspect. Continent locking is a thing. In-game voice is greatly improved and graphical issues and crashing are far less frequent, I don't even really get them anymore. Just the occasional framerate hit because my computer needs an upgrade about this time.(I get the same thing in other games) Though when he made this video. Joe here was totally right, the game did have issues they've since managed to MOSTLY smooth out. No game's perfect, but Planetside 2 actually has me coming back every so often and picking it up for weeks at a time.
In-game voice is shit. Most of the time, it doesn't even work. I'm constantly hearing people in prox asking if squad voice is broken. That is, on the days that prox is working itself.
Sony has been caught dropping the kbps on the in-game voice several times, and they only raise the quality again when people start bitching about it. Half the time the service doesn't even seem to be working. It's clear from their actions they wish they hadn't included it at all.
yes, i watched this video and didn't even understand whats wrong with voice. some outfits prefer external software for voice chats but i don't see any need to install it.

I would like to point out that some of the things in this review are obsolete. There are guns that carry over to all characters (Nanite system weaponry), certs are much easier to earn than in 2012, and there is a reason to capture the continents (HUGE EXP bonus and half price for ground vehicles, MAXes, air vehicles, or infantry stuff (grenades etc). For those of you who haven't tried PS2 and are using this to consider it.
Wow, game has gotten a lot better than when Joe reviewed it. The only thing that's really nagging is the monetization model.

I really enjoyed this game when I first started playing it...but after a few hours, I realized that nothing me or my team was doing really mattered. Someone would just come in and take some sector we took earlier, then we'd go to defend it, rinse and repeat. There's no goal, there's no end game. It ultimately drove me to lose interest, unfortunately.
Nah,your team lacks coordination,I play with a friend and we love it,you have much more freedom than in a normal FPS,because of the big map

Csanad121 Right, with coordination it's good, but my point is, there's no point in capturing half the continent. There's no way to win the war. It's just constant fighting forever. I need a goal to fight for, so I lost interest.

I don't want to sound like a naive fanboy, but what this game does on a global scale in the video game industry is amazing. Think about the message this sends to EA and IW. A massive game, free to play, innovating new game mechanics and extremely well done game with high production value. This is what we should expect to see in games, but no not even on full priced or subscription games do we see this level of value.
This is definitely one of the best experiences I've had in a video game and I haven't even spent any money yet.

can you please re-review planetside 2, many updates have changed the game completely for the better and truly makes it a unique one of a kind game but we fear the game is dying with the population being much lower than it originally was in 2012.

Here is the story of Planetside 2
PlanetSide 2 is a science fiction massively multiplayer online first-person shooter set approximately 300 years after the discovery of Auraxis, although the chronology of the game universe starts a few years before. After the Earth has nearly come to ruin following a devastating war, the world's governments came to a consensus and united under one banner: the world-wide Terran Republic (TR). Some time later a wormhole, one which scientists fail to explain, appears and then disappears without a trace. Ex-President of the Terran Republic, Tom Connery, believes that the wormhole is a sign of existing extraterrestrial life and launches several space expeditions. The first expedition to Moon Belt gives a lead-a figurine of alien nature-giving Connery a reason to start a second expedition further into space. Several Terran Republic ships travel through the wormhole and are stranded for a very long period of time; their situation grows dire. Due to the crew's mental exhaustion and provision limit, strict curfews are applied. Later, a vote is held about the necessity of the measures. The positive vote wins, but only barely. There are nearly as many negative votes. A second vote is called. However, a terrorist bomb destroys the ship on which the vote is to occur, killing everyone aboard, including Connery. Curfews pass. Later, the expedition discovers the planet Auraxis, and as a result, Vanu, or "ancient", technology. Among this vast array of technology is "Rebirthing Chambers", capable of reviving any person from any kind of injury with even the smallest amount of genetic code. This removed the main tool of the Terran Republic on Auraxis, fear. As a result the Republic banned the use of this technology, but some scientists continued, forming the Vanu Sovereignty, as the Terran started to militarize to control this, a collection of separatists broke off, forming the New Conglomerate, who stole weapons and equipment from the militarization process. So exactly 175 years after Tom Connery and the other leaders of the Terran Republic were killed, the war between the Terran Republic and the New Conglomerate breaks out. Following this, the New Conglomerate attacks the scientists who were still working on the alien technology, the Vanu Sovereignty, and they are as a result drawn into the conflict with the Terran Republic and the New Conglomerate. This prevented any work towards finding a way to regain contact with Earth, and the war for Auraxis has been raging ever since.

Just over 9 years old and we got a new continent with water fights, beach landings, and soon a new aquatic vehicle. Seriou. We can fly our fighters into the water and become a submerssible to get our subnautica vibe going. The game is still going strong. Angry Joe, do a new review please.
I played this game for 30 minutes-I was addicted.
Here I am, 159 hours into the game, and I've upgraded my main class so he is so OP that I can fend off even the strongest of opponents. Each class has been played, and I've enjoyed all of them. The controls are standard, which is a great thing, and the graphics are very beautiful. That being said, it is one of the most resource demanding games I have ever played. It heated up my PSU, and hit a 100% GPU load with a 60-degree celcius temperature. And even after I closed out of the game, my computer was sluggish for another 15 minutes afterwards.
I know exactley what ya mean my computer runs it at around 15 FPS but so much fun :D

Beware: outdated information about the game.
With games like this I always feel like it should start you out with a solid amount of points or whatever at the start. For instance each character would start with 3000 certs which would give you enough to specialise or at least enough to play around with.
Now with more patches I would rate this game about 8.5 because the game is much less buggy now, and everyday computers can actually run the game.

Almost every issue that he's highlighted has been changed and improved or outright re-made. Continents are now locked and more balanced (mostly, sometimes there's still a 5% difference). There's now tutorials, joining outfits/squads is extremely easy with an easy chain of command (*Alert* Easy chain of command In the TEXT CHAT, The Voice is still horrible) and all the gun aesthetics are incredibly changed, now you can see what type of gun you're being shot by by one look. And they have new bases from 2012 that require an entire changeup in tactics and sometimes if defended by even a quarter of the attack population are almost impossible to take. and the bugs and issues are almost all fixed, none of them are as bad anymore at all
Now is time for an update for sure. The resurgence of players is huge.

Since this review, the game has been Greatly improved, there's an extensive tutorial before you actually fight! prices for weapons have been lower. kills give alot more exp etc. the game has been optimized and its just 2x better since last year!

Somebody needs to explain to me how we're in 2019 and no video game company has decided to make a massive, big scale FPS game like PlanetSide 2. I can't be the only one who thinks that a well brought game like this would work really well. It could also break the Battle royale genre. And anyway... It's not like we've had any good games lately.
because most devs make their game with consoles in mind, and consoles can not handle that many players. planetside is truly one of a kind.

You can play 4 hours now, and have 1000 Certs. And a few medals....wich gives you bonus weapons.
Also every Weapon you buy with real money, you get on every of your acc`s. If you choose ns weapons of course.
And if you spend 20 Euro (yes im europe) thats like ca. 25 Dollars, like you spend for a game of that quality. Spend one time 20 Euro, and buy yourself a camo. You only need one, wich you like, they are available on every faction. Than buy a helmet. Done.

I hit level 100 in less than half a year w/o spending a dollar on the game. That's faster leveling than other MMOs. In return I reported a ton of bugs and cheaters :P This game has a problem with aimbotters and such, especially because it's pvp

well perhaps I hit level 100 in over half a year, can't remember. truth is you are slow in the beginning because you don't have the experience and the certs, but afterwards you improve and leveling is not a grind even in the end

the tut sucks anyway. It doesnt even tell you how to melee. or how to fly a plane. and a bunch of other usefull stuff you need to know. they at least could have putted in extra optional training, like a sniper training that would also tell you about bullet drop

Gage Cook Isnt VR basicly just testing weapons without instruction (dunno, never tried). i would have liked some sniper training to make me aware of bullet drop earlier, or a instructed course on how to fly, or perhaps a note that other than nearly every god-damned other game with cloaking, that you do not uncloak when trying to shoot. but just dont shoot at all. or the turret. in the beginning, i thought it was a automated turret. and how about telling us " Hey, if you wanna make your sunderer a respawn point, buy that 50 cert thing first". oh yea, that is another, MAJOR problem of the game: the amazing lack of starter stuff. i can understand most, but they should make a start shotgun, start smg/scout rifle, make the AA rocket launcher starter, make a starter rocket pod for aerial superiority fighters so they arent useless for beginners, and ofc much of the necessary cheaper stuff to be made free like the sundy deploy. add with this c4, prox mines, and weapon attachments and scoped, and you basicly need to spend near 4000 certs just to play the game as it is meant to be played. complete BS if you ask me

Joe, you should re review this in a couple months, almost everything like bugs have been fixed, and the tutorial is far better. The only issues that remain are the price gougings and a tad bit too slow cert acquisition. As for the background lore, it still needs improvement.
This game is still being played today and compared to other online ftp games it's not this bad compared to today's market unfortunately

As of 2019
Game still has enough players to be fun, although the population decayed a lot: only one continent wil be open most of the time, sometimes 2.
Certs are still slow to obtain, though at least guns look very different between eachother now.
There is events, although they don't affect gameplay much, outside of those allowing players to purchase MAX suits or aircraft (that event being centered around an airborn anomaly, which encourager full-on air battles with little to no ground interference) for free instead of spending a special currency that reloads slowly over time to get them (and which is basically in place only to limit the number of vehicles, MAX suits and high explosives that a given player can use in a limited time). Conquering the map at least leads to the map getting nuked by orbital strikes the color of your team, although this is almost entirely cosmetic.
They added a base-building system, where players can mine nodes around the map and use that special ressource to build a base. They can contain respawn points and automated turrets, as well as an artillery system and even an orbital gun, which can prove to be a gamechanger in a fight and is a rzeason enough to try and destroy said bases.
Overall, daybreak gets a lot of criticism for how they handle the game, and are reputed to be completely deaf to suggestions, however the game is stable, and it's mainly how they handle balance that is heavily criticized.
Still a game worth playing by any means though, and clearly got improved since its beginnings
