its been a good run for 12 years with ups and downs like any game but had lots of fun on the way. If Planetside 2 dies I hope the community comes together and makes one last Giant Battle on one server before everything shuts down. Go out with a bang together.
Try to keep up with community Discord servers. Two weeks ago they had a community Bastion event - one of the biggest battles I've been in playing the game 10-odd years. You'd think it's not possible anymore with these player counts.
@@sevak5954 Any way to get to those servers so I can coordinate, I haven't played in a year or so but if the games dead, might as well be there for the end.

Thank you very much Cyrious for this video and for your work. Planetside 2 wasnt just my for fun evening game to play, it was my favorite free time activity, my passion. Spent a lot of time, money and nerves in this game and I dont regret it one bit. I have so many epic memories carved in my mind that will probably stay there forever. Memories that I will never be able to experience again in any other game. Been playing the game since its launch when I was only 13 years old lad. Perhaps its time for peace on Auraxis finally. Its been an Honor to serve the Republic o7
Corley! Appreciate your epic service over the years soldier! The rush of dropping onto the point from a Galaxy with your best buddies at your side can never be beaten. We will ride it all the way down and then look for the next game to ride off into the sunset on.
You still making this content while other creators move on leaves a niche that you fill so well. I appreciate your efforts on my favorite game of all time and as long as you talk about it, we are listening. Keep up the good work
I'm really sad to see planetside2 die like this. I plan on enjoying it while it lasts, but man... It's the only game like it and I don't want to see it die
Planetside 2 is simply old, a lingering ( and amazing idea) of a game which needs an update and I can guarantee that a proper planetside 3 ( new engine, more detailed mechanics, bigger scale) would be a bang
No way, mate. Nobody likes shooters with complex mechanics anymore. We are like dinosaurs here :) Another meteor shower coming our way ua-cam.com/video/tOi-vlzRHEw/v-deo.html
Lifetime Membership was the best move i ever made. Was a subscriber every year since 2012. that 300$ payed itself off really fast. I havn't really bought any bundles either since then.
@@CMDRCyrious i should mention that whilst earning back that 300$ for lifetime membership was easy. I figure it might take a decade longer before i earned back the 4000 to 4500 euro's i invested in PS2 since 2012. I definately spend to much money on Implants when they were first introduced. (Before you could earn free implants from alerts,) I had them all maxed out in the first 2 weeks. Yet now years later the only 2 implants i ever use are Counter Intelligence and Ammo printer...
Hello there! A "Veteran" PS4 Version player here... (2000 hours)... I love this game to death, it's been the only FPS i regularly go back to.... I really hope they are not going to let the game die, i am willing to start from fresh on PC and them nuking the PS4 Version if that means for the game to continue on of course... Really hope it will stick around for a long time.
Its the end of an era :( I spent thousands of hours on PlanetSide 2 and originally began playing during the beta.. I still remember very clearly the first time I played and was in awe at the scale and the graphics, so many amazing moments and memories over the years.. it will always be my favourite game, and it will be in my heart until I hit my death bed. I was in my early 20's back then and it was the prime of my life, now I'm 12 years older and got a few grey hairs. You were a substantial influencer to the scene and you did alot good for the game and the community. All good things come to an end unfortunately. Its a damn tragedy that we never will get a PlanetSide 3.. but we'll continue to get these repetitive/ boring battle Royale and arena shooter games.. like we need more of those. What more can you say, it breaks my heart. I played up until about a year ago, connery began dieng off and life got in the way and i dont see myself playing again unless they merge the servers which I think is the case for alot of others. Salute.
I think problem with any W40K game is ballance. You ether distance from lore (which will piss fans) or the game will be ballance nighmare. The only way to ballance it is imperial faction vs its chaos copy (Space marine vs Chaos marines, Guard vs traitor guard, etc...) and not making the most of the IP. I am talking in sence of MMOFPS like PS2.
That was the most comprehensive recap of planetside history that ive seen. I knew the game wasnt dead years ago, I don't understand why people were negative then and positive now. Wrel was a blessing to this game and all anyone did was shit on him.
Some old footage! That point hold bust had lots of old 666 tag names that I knew well and ran with back in the day which hits the nostalgia. Good times. Sad to see it go, but CAI was the start of my outs with the game to preserve my good memories of the armor fights.
Thank you for all the things you did to this community! I think this game need something like the melee documentary! Just showing passion, cool mechanics of the game, drama, skills, etc... That could bring lots of new people
Hope the family are well and the new house is coming along dude! Good to see some content from you as well obviously. I'll give the video a watch when it drops in a couple days 👍
Very insightful video. Amazing to me how thorough your perpective is. I met you in-game once, Commander. Late night gaming session, low player counts, we just visited for a bit. It was impressive to see what you're like in a less official setting, however briefly. You're clearly quite smart. Cheers to you in your streaming future. And cheers to a future where Planetside 4 has crazy high player counts, built on a new engine to last for decades, and wisdom going into product design.
Great video. EG7's boom and bust was definitely the piece of info I was missing to understand what was happening. I couldn't understand why someone other than an established publisher/developer would purchase the IP. From the facts you laid out, it's pretty clear the investor is only interested in collecting royalties, not developing a new game. It's depressing, but you're right in saying that big things are not coming for Planetside, they might never come, and if they do it'll be after PS2 dies and the new owners are out shopping for a new royalty farm. If the IP ends up in the hands of a new team somewhere down the line, there's no reason to expect they'll be the right people with the right skills to pull it off, or that they'll have an ethical mindset instead of a desire to make some hideous cash grab.
As someone coming from the way back before times of Beta testing Planetside 1, this is a sad update but spot on. I have not played much lately but I kept up my subscription in the hopes that something new would come of it. Guess not. In the meantime Commander, you should try Squad. Its not Planetside but I find myself addicted to the team and logistical aspects that other games lack.
In in the same spot you are. I don't know what game I would jump to either. There's no PS2 replacement for me, and that's the environment I want to be in.
not sure if its your type of game but Star Citizen has been the game to scratch my planetside itch, maybe in a few years when that's getting closer to being in one piece it'll be perfect for ps2 players.
sTARCITIZEN blows , Squad is pretty good if you can run it , you can squad leadv platoon lead , and its not as dated as planetside , and it has all the rewarding aspects of seeing your plans come to fruition ( wait again star citizen? theres not even decent FPS how does it help your planetside itch AT ALL?! ) SC is a scam period
@@LanzerYT they're both sold on the idea of scale, sc doesn't have all the combat of planetside yet, but it sells the size. Also I suppose combined arms gameplay is possible in sc.
It is good to hear from you. Me and my friend did pick up and put down Planetside 2 for a lot of times now, maybe 10+ times over the years. Neither of us reached to 100, not even to 80. We both loved the game, had a lot of conversations about the game and came to known some youtubers because of it. You are one of them. HUGE props to you for mentioning other youtubers, such as Yamisk! I have all factions sitting at around 50-55 BR. My buddy was a TR fan, so he got his TR to allmost 70, NC and VS till 40. I love the game. I suck at the game, and I cannot shoot at all nowadays. My buddy loves the game. He suck at the game, and he cannot shoot at all as well. We both having our asses handed to us, but we still laughing, we still having our moments in the game. When I talk about fps games with my friends, or collegues. I usually bring up Planetside 2. But looking at it now, It is indeed a 12 year old game. One gem within my heart that is for sure. Infortunately, despite how much I love the game, I never end up playing it. I allways play other games, instead of it. I keep seeing stuff about it, thinking yea I should pick the game up. Sometimes I log in, play an hour then log off after getting rekted 1k times. Despite it's hardcore state, and how insanely hard this game is. I love the game. Think of it as a Dark Souls, but pvp. The bosses are insane players, you have a similar chance to defeat. I'm proudly say that I got 765 hours in the game! Still love the game. Will love the game. Allways loved the game. JKCaRS! - Just Keep Calm and ReSpawn!
Well that is some real sad News But I would be lying if I said I didn't expect this. I had a good run with the game and the memories I made in it are what I will keep with me. As for video Ideas I would Love to see IRL vlog type videos of your farm and life I personally wanted a Piece of land to farm some chicken! I don't really much care for planetside I just like the energy and Ideas you put into the game as well and I don't think many other creators do that kind of focus.
Numbariaro! I miss chilling with you on streams and premieres. Thanks very much for the love! I will definitely get some IRL stuff out probably in the shorts section, and I hope to find some other games I can do content on in the future as well that hopefully people will enjoy my style with. Thanks again for all the support man!
I have not played planetside 2 in 2 years and that was me playing alone after Oshur came out, I used to play this game with friends which was when it was most enjoyable, but they moved on to other titles. I remember playing TR on Oshur and Cyrious invited me to his platoon and it was really cool seeing the communication and excitement back then of seeing something new in the game. Planetside 2 truly has a unique experience thats hard to replicate. As for game recommendations, I'm going to recommend Hell Let Loose, its an incredibly fun WW2 pseudo-mil-sim shooter with 50v50 game modes and ground vehicle combat, artillery, resource based, and is squad based like planetside with officers and commanders. Its sort of my planetside replacement as it is the closest (for me personally) to scratching the itch that planetside scratches. It is $45 for the base game but all of the DLC are just cosmetics that don't affect gameplay.
Thanks, boss for the very in-depth analysis. I would love to see info on your new projects and property either here or on a second channel with an @everyone notification on this channel, how ever you think it would work, Good to see you, and good luck with the new place!
When you were talking about the fact that this year the devs didn't want to do the "next big update", the reason behind it I think is because the community legit asked for putting priority on fixing bugs and removing hackers.
honestly been playing since 2012 still have fun, havent paid much so still dont have everything on all my characters, recently made the jump to emerald cuz the connery dead servers. Restarting is hell, but still enjoy the game. It could use some love tho, would love to see some content in some way, i actually enjoy Osh, but would love to see more events like the pumpkin/snowman just somehting to do that doesnt involved fights, like singleplayer stuff. But loving game, good to see people still playing.
I will be in the ship with you my man. If this is the end it was great. It's been great learning from you to improve my gameplay and it's been an honor taking out and being taken out BY you periodically. It's also been great playing in your squads a couple times. Anyways...you are probably right about your perception of events...i want to see positives, but who knows. I too have no idea where I will go. I have other games, but there is no game like PlanetSide.
Idk if I'm already a veteran player considering all the guys around, however i've spent 5 years enjoying this game so i deeply thank you for this comprehensive explanation. I personally feel a merge would be beneficial in the short term, but this would have to come with an update that actually engages the new influx of players to stay active and keep spending money in the game.
I think a long form video about how a game so good it lasted 12 years spent its entire time hated by those who played it. How a dream for something better leads you to procrastinate and overlook the good thing you have now, and poetically how some of the ones who hated now cry out for people to see the beauty they could not before its gone forever.
Hey man, you are that kind of streamer, creator that has a voice and an analytical aspect that is both soothing for the soul and easy to follow no matter what you do. So by simply streaming or creating what ever comes to your mind until you found that something, im sure your gonna enjoy it too. You cant please every one, but you can definitely please a smal group of loyal followers. Thats here for you and nothing els. And since you asked for some suggestion, i will add a game i been waiting for since 2020, came out recently in march 2024. Its named Outpost infinity siege, its a fps, TD, RTS solo/coperative game. And if you cant find any big MMOFPS i suggest you take a look at it. Its really interesting and its like only 30$ on steam.
@@CMDRCyrious Yes exactly, but much more advanced. Its really good at trying to be something new and refreshing. Im sure you will enjoy it alot, Altho the story line is not the best, the game clearly is not build around the story line. Its more about the building, defending, searching and all that kind of aspects that makes the game feel like a treasure hunting. The game is overwhelming, but for a player thats good at overwhelming information, this game might be suited for you. Another cool thing about the FPS aspects in this game, is that the weapon you have can be upgraded to multiple different versions and works abit like a wand, with access to spells and abilitys that makes your gun a multi functional tool. Lisent, if you buy it and test it, and you dident like it. I personaly will pass by your stream and drop cash for at least a whole famely pizza as pay back for the game you bought.
I would gladly play a new FPS game with the same concept of massive battles in the open world and multiple factions, even if it had nothing to do with Planetside (my heart still wishes PS3). I first played PS2 in 2014 and back then it blew my mind. I wish I could experience it in the same way in later years, but the game just felt... old.
consider new channel for ur irl stuff, what u described is a pretty nice niche i enjoy myself. im not a sub and frankly never seen u before but was just curious about ps2 new ownership, and im very happy u gave me a full run down of the history it was very insightful!
As one of those "Keep subbed to keep up with PS2" people, seeing other team based shooters like Squad and Arma from your perspective would be cool, especially since it seems you're an old school gamer back when MMOs were the big thing (I've never really been into them outside of PS2).
Planetside 2 is basically the only FPS I'm playing now. The rest doesn't surprise me, maybe I could buy Battlebit in case of closing. For me the only coming game that would substitute it would be EVE Vanguard, where everytime I play his playtests, at the feedback "what's your favourite FPS of all times" i always respond "Planetside 2".
play tarkov to slow your role , and enjoy your individual frags more, then once youve peaked take that salt into squad and yell at people to play the way you do. its awesome
It is so weird to hear the IP of planetside being sold. I do wonder what will happen, I half expected the game to got a shutdown in a nanosecond because the buyer was a random company nobody hear about. But so far, color me surprise, Sunderer rework, a new type of capture gamemode have been announced. With that said. If they do end up shutting down, well.. It was a hell of a run lads.
Thank you for your honest way of view...I can tell one thing...there will be something but not PS4 but it will be called different but it will have all the things we wanted...
First off great video, thank you for overview of the changes and plans that are/were going on behind the scenes. And yes i would love to see irl in videos aswell, don‘t feel pressured about what you post/make content about. And i gotta say, this game has my heart forever, so thank you for being that loyal to the game, the player and follower🫡
i never played planetside 1 but my god i spent so many hours in infantry. Edit: i was a playstation main before i came to pc, planetside def is fun jsut a dif game with low population , where 30 on 30 fights are much more common. you remember names and you know who your fighting, i wish there was another game i wanted to play -.- when one does come along thought ill have to update my pc .... at this point im thinking about buying a ps5 and becoming a console gamer again
Itll get worse before it gets better but the private equity buyer needs a return. They will monetize as much as they can and then sell it for as much as they can. They are probably targeting a 10-15% IRR. They will sell someday and possibly for much less than 5.9m (they are betting they get more from licensing fees before they sell). Whoever buys the IP, at THAT point, will have only one reason to buy the IP that produces no cash flow. To build something new with it. In the long run, it might be a blessing in disguise as this takes the future of planetside out of the hands of DBG/E7
I dropped my PS2 sub last month, it was hard to drop. PS2 is a awesome game and it is unique. It is not that dated, it is smooth and it has the depth. Sad, really sad............
I've been watching Summit1g playing Star Citizen, and watching a space game like that really just made me want to play Planetside 2 (well really DUST 514 but you know). You're right, you're my go-to youtuber to see how the game is doing, and I've never had a PC that can run the game until now. Maybe I should get into it and play it while I can.
If you're still taking new content suggestions, I would definitely like to see reviews on some shooters that could possibly replace planetside. I've been playing this game for 10 years or so and I definitely need help finding anything that comes even close.
During the first three years I was hoping to see PS2 live long and grow. Around '16 I started to realize that PS2 was only going down except a few ok updates every other month. After that I kept wondering why they didnt plan PS3. Even after Arena the devs never realized what the actual problems were. My breaks from the game became longer and longer. Not even the pandemic made me look at it again. Planetside is dead - end of the story. They can change staff, promise ideas, sell it again and again. Doesnt change anything. We needed a fresh, modern PS3 like 6 years ago.
I'm going to state this at least for everyone, if you really don't like where this is going come together and BUILD a new game there isn't any real competition and getting a hold of if V is still around and grab that talent to design the game would be the greatest option available for all of you.
good to hear from ya CMDR. i'm also awaiting the next planetside but in the current AAA sphere, i doubt something so ambitious could be done. At least not without egregious monetization. i can only hope some smaller dev come along and do a "battlebit'ing" of PS2!
Happy to hear things are going your way IRL since that's always what's important! Perhaps something to keep in mind going forward, is that people who follow content creators are introduced to them via content but over time stay for the creator. I think if you wanted to throw up footage of some IRL stuff that would be well received. People like hearing from the creators they follow and as long as there is some form of content, the audience will be there. As far as planetside goes, I haven't played for a couple years already. When I think about what it could have been, it's unfortunate that it never got there. Will always be one of my favorite titles but like a fool, I'm holding on to hope that someone, somewhere will make the game we want from it. Don't stress about the future of planetside/gaming, something will always be there that you can get in to. Enjoy the present and the time you have now, online is just a click away, take it easy and look forward to seeing more vids about anything, really.
Hey Jordan, good to catch up, I miss hanging out with you on stream! And appreciate your encouraging words on branching out on the channel, I hope to feature a few new games on it soon
You might enjoy HellDivers II. It's not the same but, the feeling of completing an objective with thousands of players on your side is still somewhat there. As much as I love Planetside2, I can't help but agree that at this point it really is going to meet its end soon. But I have been playing HellDivers and, while I don't see hundreds of players around me trying to complete the liberation or defense of a planet, it still feels that way since it's a collective community effort. The game really does make you feel that way especially when you see countless spaceships parked in the area your squad is about to drop in.
One game I would compare to Planetside is "Foxhole" which definitely has that massive war in a persistent world which is the main thing that makes Planetside unique. Of course there are some major differences too, it is a top down shooter, it is WW2 inspired rather than Sci-Fi, there is a big focus on logistics, and building bases is actually useful and essential. They advertise that wars can last up to a month in real time, also that every item you use was crafted and transported by other players. Of course the top down view, especially combined with the slower pace, gives it a different feel. Unfortunately, while still successful, the devs have made it clear they will be focusing on their new game "Anvil" which has a medieval inspired setting, and survival mechanics in addition to the war.
I feel like you would fit in Helldivers2. The gruff games with an army community seeing as you put a lot of work into your streams. Godspeed and this has been a good long ride. you added life into ps2 until they called it, and I thank you for the vibe. I'd ask Discord if you like to play with the ps2 community. Who knows, maybe you pick up palworld or modern warfare.
I will miss fighting against you and alongside you. I have already miss Koltyr Just wanted to say that because I had fun memories playing on that map. And I will miss meeting new people. even though they ignored me the whole time. I will miss the explosions, the tracer fire, the battles, the night battles especially and seeing aircrafts exploding mid-air. I salute you. 🫡😥
I feel ya...don't have time to get into other games with 3 kids and family stuff. Gonna be going down with the planetside ship as well. Great informative video as always!
Personally, I am taking the news with a bit of a heavy heart, but I would love to see an overall gaming channel after PS2 last day. If you wanna play it, I wanna watch it.
IDK if its up your alley, and it has horrible monetization, but Crossout is an extremely fun niche PVP game. Once you put in time and get good, its extremely competitive, has very deep mechanics, and needs more content creators. I can't believe how hooked i got on Crossout over time
@@CMDRCyrious Yeah. You build your own vehicles, and battle against others creations. It starts out simple enough, but understanding the building mechanics and creating effective builds gets crazy. A lot of grinding involved to get parts, and investing money is pretty much mandatory
If server merges ever became a thing I would come back. I want to play my old main that level 100+ with millions of certs spent. All that progress I never wanted to restart so making alts on Emerald was just never the same. If not that I just want a true Planetside 3.
"Salt is good but if the salt has lost his saltiness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another." A Text from the Bible... I think it's a fitting phrase when we talk about Veterans in Planetside 2. They are already BR120 +200, they already have unlocked every aspect of the game, they unlocked and auraxed every weapon and every Vehicle. What should be new to come for a Veteran that has tasted everything?... The flavor got lost
In my mind, if you were to transition it would be into the mil-simish games. Something like Squad, DCS, Arma. Something that has group tactics but can also be played solo.
@@CMDRCyrious it may have been mentioned previously but I'll throw my hat in here... I've had a hard time finding any game that captures the feel of Planetside 2, so I understand that struggle. I've tried Battlefield, I've tried battlefront, I've tried Squad, and those aren't a full roster of what's out there right now, but none have felt like Planetside. That said, Helldiver's, for me, has come the closest to the energy that Planetside has. As it stands, it lacks the core massive battles with hundreds of players like those aforementioned games. But it a sense, it somewhat captures the essence that there is always a continuous larger war at hand. From the galactic map of contested planets (akin to different continents) to each planet having different mission types (sort of like the different base facilities). From sitting in space or marching planetside, you see the in real time the ships of other players deploying fresh divers or sending down different artillery. Like Planetside and unlike so many massive battle MMO's, the war never ends. You're contribution, as small as it might be, doesn't just become a statistic at the end of a match - it keeps going. There may not be multiple player factions, now all players are in one side, but we're facing a multi-sided war against well defined and unique enemy factions. (I'll miss playing the alien faction with frickin' purple laser beams but at least there's no more cross faction finger pointing here. We're all here for democracy.) Maybe it's wishful thinking, but this has been the best I can find so far. And for the future, it seems to me this game has a good basis. Plus, with the style the game lore goes, your streaming format may fit nicely. If you haven't seen or played too much of this game, I hope this might be insightful. It's way past midnight for me, so I can't keep writing... but I hope to see you planetside whether it be on Auraxis or in the name of Super Earth! Thank you for the great and informative content. o7
If only an indie dev studio could pick up this IP. It seems like the current devs have so little funding and time to work on PlanetSide 2 that they have no passion for the game.
I haven't heard about this game since 2014 or so. People i knew were excited about fortnite and battle royale since they had 100 players in one match, I always brought up PlanetSide 2 as having achieved that and more nearly a decade prior.
Grats on the move Cyrious, I'm happy to hear you got your dream home. As for content, do it buddy! Show us Cyrious chainsawing etc. I'll share that I have a couple friends who live on a farm a could hours out of town, and I make a point of going there for a few weekends a year to unplug. It is nice to step away from the apartment, the bus schedules, the electronics everywhere and go somewhere where the work is sweaty and dirty, the food is fresh and I go a whole weekend without touching the phone. I think it's likely that many of your gamer followers would love to see a window to that world through your channel. Anyways, glad you're doing well, I had wondered about the silence, cheers!
Planetside 2 is the best shooter MMO ever. It ticks so many boxes. Sandbox, not one battle is the same, grindy, has skills ladder, and you need your own skills, you can run, drive, fly, swim, build.. It has streamers to keep the game going, it runs smoothly on any pc. You can get burned out but never bored. You can play for free. Paying helps with accessing faster more weapons or vehicle. It is not pay to win. It took me several years before i decided to subscribe.
I once made a post in the Reddit asking if maybe Sony should buy back the Planetside franchise on the basis maybe that would help the game tremendously as it would mean a better financial backing and possibly more developers working on it, given that they more or less shot themselves in the foot by doing away with SOE to focus on console games. Just 2 more years really and they could have been better off staying in the PC gaming industry as nowadays PC is crushing the PlayStation, the attempt at copying the concept of Nintendo's Splatoon game series with Foamstars flopped being locked only to Playstation which came as no surprise. Seriously it's like the day Sony sold SOE that's when things started going to sh*t for them and also for Planetside.
The blindness was thinking that battleroyales or zombies would last for decades. If they used the PS2 network servers/ use the H1Z1 assets to do a new MAGS ( modern warfare etc) it would be a better survival to the forgelight engine and even for planetside franchise. NOw its too late.
The fact that this game is doing better than suicide squad whilst its IP has been sold shows how good it is even after 12 years

Keep up the good work
Thank you Soldier
I'm really sad to see planetside2 die like this. I plan on enjoying it while it lasts, but man... It's the only game like it and I don't want to see it die
Same bro its the last true mmofps. The one before that was MAG and it died in 2014
Planetside 2 is simply old, a lingering ( and amazing idea) of a game which needs an update and I can guarantee that a proper planetside 3 ( new engine, more detailed mechanics, bigger scale) would be a bang
I would love a proper Planetside 3.
No way, mate. Nobody likes shooters with complex mechanics anymore. We are like dinosaurs here :)
Another meteor shower coming our way ua-cam.com/video/tOi-vlzRHEw/v-deo.html
I feel like it would slap, big time
Unfortunately owners doesn't have resources for PS3 development and MMOFPS genre is too niche to bet on it.
Lifetime Membership was the best move i ever made.
Was a subscriber every year since 2012. that 300$ payed itself off really fast.
I havn't really bought any bundles either since then.
Haha you lifetimers killed it. So much free boosted game time. Good move, you definitely got your moneys worth
Some of the most fun times were watching your stream while being in your squad. Thanks for all you've done for the game and community!
Thanks for running in the stream squad! Hoping to get the stream back up and running soon
That Eve music was resurrected from my memories. Crazy
I don't think it will be gone within the year at least, but after that, who knows.
Salute.
/SALUTE
I am right there with you man. Got some greys myself as well. man to go back and hit that first epic battle Planetside.
Why has nobody thought about that using the Planetside model/engine with warhammer 40k that game would be epic huge war in the 41st millenium
It’s not just balance it’s cost, you would be making that game and then having to sustain it.
Probably because getting access to that sweet juicy IP means dealing with GW.
W40k Eternal Crusade was going to be this but didn't turn out and instead we got a mediocre third person shooter with a bad f2p model.
@@slowenbrau1859 The Eternal Crusade devs really fucked up, they were not prepared or capable of delivering on the mmo product, which was unfortunate.
That was the most comprehensive recap of planetside history that ive seen. I knew the game wasnt dead years ago, I don't understand why people were negative then and positive now. Wrel was a blessing to this game and all anyone did was shit on him.
Planetside 2 is 12 years old ...
Right? Hard to believe I started in 2013

Best part is connecting with people in game. Thanks for the wonderful words, we will look forward to the future.
You are right man, its in a bit of limbo right now, all we can do is hope a reputable developer picks it up.
The vids I have seen of squad look cool, I would like to try it out soon

Hell let loose does look pretty cool
19:14 Probably because nobody on the forums outside of a select few knew who he was + everyone and their grandmothers was too busy dunking on Wrel
You are right on

Thanks man, I think in shorts I can throw some of the house stuff up
When you were talking about the fact that this year the devs didn't want to do the "next big update", the reason behind it I think is because the community legit asked for putting priority on fixing bugs and removing hackers.
I do think the community is asking for that, but hackers are rampant and there is not much big fixing.
I wanted to play Planetside Arena but was mid-move at the time and by the time my PC was set up it was over and I reinstalled Planetside 2
It was fun for its short time alive.
Appreciate the update. I almost forgot about this game.

honestly been playing since 2012 still have fun, havent paid much so still dont have everything on all my characters, recently made the jump to emerald cuz the connery dead servers.
Right on, thanks for running with me man. It will still be around for awhile so not dead yet
Idk if I'm already a veteran player considering all the guys around, however i've spent 5 years enjoying this game so i deeply thank you for this comprehensive explanation. I personally feel a merge would be beneficial in the short term, but this would have to come with an update that actually engages the new influx of players to stay active and keep spending money in the game.
good video, thanks for the breakdown
You bet
I think a long form video about how a game so good it lasted 12 years spent its entire time hated by those who played it. How a dream for something better leads you to procrastinate and overlook the good thing you have now, and poetically how some of the ones who hated now cry out for people to see the beauty they could not before its gone forever.
That sounds cool DJ i will put that on the video list
Its really interesting and its like only 30$ on steam.
ooo that sounds cool, Sort of like a Command & Conquer Renegade scenario?
Glad that you're back soldier.

I would gladly play a new FPS game with the same concept of massive battles in the open world and multiple factions, even if it had nothing to do with Planetside (my heart still wishes PS3). I first played PS2 in 2014 and back then it blew my mind. I wish I could experience it in the same way in later years, but the game just felt... old.

Good to hear, glad I can expand into other shooters.
Planetside 2 is basically the only FPS I'm playing now. The rest doesn't surprise me, maybe I could buy Battlebit in case of closing. For me the only coming game that would substitute it would be EVE Vanguard, where everytime I play his playtests, at the feedback "what's your favourite FPS of all times" i always respond "Planetside 2".
play tarkov to slow your role , and enjoy your individual frags more, then once youve peaked take that salt into squad and yell at people to play the way you do. its awesome
@@MachinedFace88ttv i tried Tarkov. I like it but I suck. I'd rather die in the middle of big battles than dying alone.
Right on soldier

i never played planetside 1 but my god i spent so many hours in infantry.
Yeah, you nailed it. Have to wait for that next turn over.

Sup Ryan - That sounds like a lot of fun, I have some video ideas for stuff like that.
Good luck with the new place
During the first three years I was hoping to see PS2 live long and grow. Around '16 I started to realize that PS2 was only going down except a few ok updates every other month. After that I kept wondering why they didnt plan PS3. Even after Arena the devs never realized what the actual problems were. My breaks from the game became longer and longer. Not even the pandemic made me look at it again.
Planetside is dead - end of the story. They can change staff, promise ideas, sell it again and again. Doesnt change anything. We needed a fresh, modern PS3 like 6 years ago.
You are right on. The planetside arena was a tough miss, it really needed to be PS3 development
I'm going to state this at least for everyone, if you really don't like where this is going come together and BUILD a new game there isn't any real competition and getting a hold of if V is still around and grab that talent to design the game would be the greatest option available for all of you.
You never know, someone might buy the rights from that company. And make a better planetside game.
That would be cool

good to hear from ya CMDR. i'm also awaiting the next planetside but in the current AAA sphere, i doubt something so ambitious could be done.
I am just starting to dabble but it is a really cool game. Hoping to do some content on it.
I played a bit of foxhole and it was fun, the top down does throw me off a bit. Anvil does sound pretty interesting.
Doing some hell divers streams would be a lot of fun
Yeah I quit a couple weeks after Wrel left too. I think about coming back sometimes
I will miss fighting against you and alongside you. I have already miss Koltyr Just wanted to say that because I had fun memories playing on that map. Im sad about it, i loved planetside. Does anyone know of any games in development that are trying to do something similar?
Nothing that I am aware of yet, but we will keep our eyes out.
IDK if its up your alley, and it has horrible monetization, but Crossout is an extremely fun niche PVP game. Once you put in time and get good, its extremely competitive, has very deep mechanics, and needs more content creators.
I can't believe how hooked i got on Crossout over time
I saw that come out and never got a second to get into it, if I get a second I will check it out. Arena shooter type of thing right?
@@CMDRCyrious Yeah. You build your own vehicles, and battle against others creations. It starts out simple enough, but understanding the building mechanics and creating effective builds gets crazy. A lot of grinding involved to get parts, and investing money is pretty much mandatory

A Text from the Bible...
Oof Well said, applies really well here.
I went and watched some Planetside 1 videos on YT from my old Outfit and man. PS1 was such a great game.
You are right on
In my mind, if you were to transition it would be into the mil-simish games. Something like Squad, DCS, Arma. Something that has group tactics but can also be played solo.
Nice thanks for the ideas!
We're all here for democracy.)
Maybe it's wishful thinking, but this has been the best I can find so far.
Thank you for the great and informative content. o7
Way to be, SOLDIERS!
If PS2 ever shuts down, I'm going to be very sad
If only an indie dev studio could pick up this IP. It seems like the current devs have so little funding and time to work on PlanetSide 2 that they have no passion for the game.
As a good commander you'll go down with the ship. o7
Right on soldier o7
I haven't heard about this game since 2014 or so. People i knew were excited about fortnite and battle royale since they had 100 players in one match, I always brought up PlanetSide 2 as having achieved that and more nearly a decade prior.
I think any other shooters you like would work great, i think Helldivers 2 looks cool.
Yeah I totally bet it but How’s the recoil On that bad boy?….
Excited to see the video.. Been a while.
You mentioned enjoying MechWarrior 2, please come join the MechWarrior and BattleTech community. We would love to have you.
Would love to check it out.
oh shit wheres he been
Planetside 2 is the best shooter MMO ever.
You hit all the points.
It would be cool to get folded back into Sony
The blindness was thinking that battleroyales or zombies would last for decades. If they used the PS2 network servers/ use the H1Z1 assets to do a new MAGS ( modern warfare etc) it would be a better survival to the forgelight engine and even for planetside franchise. NOw its too late.
They should have done MAG 2
Have you thought about giving Helldivers 2 a go?
Just starting to dabble, hoping to do some content on it soon.
