I only care about losing belly fat. I weight train so I don’t mind weighing more, I just want a slim midsection and balanced hormones and easy digestion and the starch solution has helped with this tremendously. It’s mind boggling how I used to be high fat pescatarian and had so many digestive issues, skin and hair issues and candida. Whole plant based foods are really the best natural medicine and most of all it’s sustainable long term and very satiating.

I started following calorie density/as described here (I’ve been vegan for 7years) about 5 months ago and I’ve lost nearly two stone and I’m a pound or two off my ideal weight of 8 and a half stone. Once I had got into a good routine I found I could plan to go off plan once or twice a week (not too drastically mind) and I still kept losing. I haven’t gained on a single week. I know we’re all different, but it’s worth knowing that it can be possible to have ‘treats’ when you’re in a good position and know you can be consistent for the vast majority of the time and are still aware of your calories. Thanks Emmie 🥰

I'll definitely watch Part 2. I've been thinking about ditching my morning smoothie because I believe it would help me to start losing weight once again. I'm 32 pounds down and need to see another 20-30 gone, so yes, changes have to be made. Great video.

So glad I watched this video. I've been wfpb for almost 6 years. A year and a half ago I went down the slippery slope of processed foods....a month and a half ago I cut them out and started my fitness pal. Eating 1200 calories and tracking everything for a month. Just trying to get on track and now I feel like I don't know how to eat when I'm hungry. Today I ate 8 medjool dates with pecans stuffed inside. I needed this video, thanks for making it.

Oh, and yes medjool dates are definitely crack!! I can only eat one and its like a sugar overload. My addiction at the moment is a bliss ball made with oats, nut butter etc. Hmmmmm, yeah, bet that is high in calories! I followed a WFPB diet for 14 years, was a healthy weight the entire time, but then fell into the lazy way of blended fruit each morning, and avo on sour dough bread way of eating. As I was heading towards the big 50 I began to gain weight. I was then encouraged and a little coerced by a well meaning friend to try Keto and although I lost the weight, I felt absolutely awful & exhausted the entire year and a half on Keto. 😩
I’ve gone back to WFPB, but been gaining weight consistently in spite of eating as balanced and clean as possible and am currently 30 pounds over weight. These tips were invaluable will implement them right away.

Can I ask. If we are reducing or eliminating nuts and seeds for weight loss, where can we get our vitamin E from?
    I am quite concerned.
I noted that Plantiful Kiki was deficient of several vitamins and minerals and I wondered if there was a problem with not getting enough BEANS. literally a sprinkle of chickpeas aint gonna cut it.
otherwise i totally believe in the starch solution.
Thirdly, why if starch isn't a weight inducer do we have to limit our carbs for the 50/50 plate?
    Thank you.

I've followed a plant-based diet for a while, but my body fat ratio has increased while my muscle has decreased. The weight itself has dropped but what's lost is the muscle, not the body fat. (I regularly check my body fat ratio at home.) What do you think is the problem? I don't eat processed vegan substitutes. I don't cook with oil. So I started wondering if this low protein + high carb diet has caused this problem. What would you recommend for the cases like mine? Would it be because of too much calorie deficit? :(

Hey I was curious about the fiber content being destroyed in a smoothie and all I could find is that it only is less when removing the peel and seeds. Do you have a reference for this? Just curious because sometimes I make smoothies when in a hurry and have to drive somewhere so it’s out of convenience.

Great video! I was wondering though if you could do a deep dive regarding calorie density for wet starches? I cannot wrap my head around how it works. I suck at math but I can’t find any videos on UA-cam that explains this. Perhaps show dry oats first and the calorie per portion compared by the same amount now cooked? (And maybe the same with overnight oats?)
Also I’d like to see this for rice and other starches as well where the calorie density is lowered when you add water to it.
Also, is it the same for overnight oats? Aka does the calorie density become lower if you add a vegan milk to it and let it soak overnight? I love having overnight oats for breakfast sometimes but if it’s bad regarding calorie density I get why oatmeal is better. Thank you!

    • @gianninal5455
      @gianninal5455 2 роки тому +6

It basically comes down to calorie dilution and/or vol change. Like she explains in the oat cookie example, if you measured out 500 calories of cooked oats vs 500 calories of dry oats, the VOLUME of dry oats, for the SAME quantity of calories would be significantly smaller and hence less filling. So while the VOLUME of the 500 cals of cooked oats could likely fill you, you might need 2-3x times the volume of dry oats to feel the same level of physical/emotional satiety and hence would consume 1000-1500 cals of dry oats vs 500 of cooked oats. What makes that VOLUME of cooked oats so much more filling for far less calories is the water content, which plumps the oats making them take up more space in your stomach and hence activating the "stretch" many of us need to feel satiated. All for less total calories.
As for your overnight oats vs "oatmeal" the only thing that would really distinguish them is that you might be doing overnight oats with a plant based "milk" vs just pure water, and frankly most of those dairy milk alternatives are more water than anything else. Both formats yield oats that are "plump" after having absorbed the liquid. Whether it's by slow soaking/absorbing or a heat based method (microwave, stovetop, IP, etc) it should yield similar volume. Now, if you're using a plant based yogurt or other more calorie dense medium for your overnight oats, THAT might be something to consider changing if u feel it could be hampering your weight loss.

@@gianninal5455 I've been wondering about this too, but I think properly cooked oats take a lot more water than overnight oats do!

Oh wow, what a great question! I hadn't even thought of this but it's true that I use more water to cook half a cup of oats on the stove (1 cup water) than what I use for overnight oats in my fridge (1/2 cup water...actually I use almond milk!). Definitely will be making some changes to my oatmeal and see if that helps anything. Thanks for the insightful question!

Part 2 please - first person to explain wet oats vs dry oats! I never understood why everyone had oats for breakfast when they're so high per pound, now it makes sense! Thanks Emmie

i began transitioning into a vegan diet thinking that dropping meat and dairy would magically make me lose tons of weight. i learned so many recipes with dates and oats and i was confused as to why i wasnt losing weight because it was "vegan". whole food plant based doesn't equal weight loss and I learned that the hard way lol. had to say goodbye to the peanut butter filled dates i would turn to as a healthy snack haha

Part 2 please! Are skinny ramen noodles a dry starch when cooked with veggies?
