    Cyd, just wanted to say thank you for your UA-cam videos, really helpful and have just saved me a load of garage costs. I started off doing a key replacement last year, then progressed to a radio replacement and speaker upgrade. Last month I did a full service, and last weekend, I replaced both rear discs and brake pads 👏👏👏. Next project it to replace the air conditioning condenser. Thank you.

      Any suggestions on replacing the gear stick gater, only seen almost impossible to do videos of this.
      Thanks Cyd.

    Another great video Cyd, waiting for a delivery as I write this of a full set of Mtec drilled/grooved disc with mintex pads for my 2006 1.9 tdi estate 9-3 been busy painting my wheels vauxhall star silver metallic 111 from Halfords. Painted calipers in a nice hyundai light metallic blue. Bought some small blue SAAB decals, one on each wheel on one of the three thicker spokes. New centre caps and SAAB chrome dust caps. Keep these very useful vids coming please Cyd. Subscribed to your channel few weeks ago, catching up with lots of older vids, one of which is getting watched due to my Saab suffering charging issues. Gonna go through trouble shooting guide in your vids, already tested battery cells individually as shown in vid. Battery is good. Onwards and upwards. Thanks, vinny :-)

    Very good to know, I had no idea. So far I've been measuring every time😒 So now, with this new information, I happily went out to read the label and what did I find? Saab decided to change these letters to _ _ _ instead. I'm Swedish, still I hate Saab. Also I'm stupid - my current is my 5th Saab👎😖

    Helpful video thanks, also not all calipers have size on them, I think your find!

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  5 років тому +1

      Hi Silky G, thanks for watching and interacting.
      Yes, you are correct, the 285 and 302 calipers are marked with disc size but the 314/345 calipers are not. BTW 314 and 345 use the same calipers. So if your calipers are massive and not marked they'll be 314/345s.
      The rear calipers only have the company moniker ATE cast in, but the rears are easy as there are only two sizes.

    • @silkyg3400
      @silkyg3400 5 років тому

      Thanks for that, BTW the rears you mentioned your correct but I found that it's only the carriers that are different size wise as I've just upgraded my 278mm to 292mm but it's not mentioned anywhere the calipers are all same ate type 😉

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  5 років тому

      @@silkyg3400 thanks. That's properly useful information is that. Here in the UK some of the big aftermarket caliper suppliers list them different. I know I've just had to replace one.

    Any idea why mine doesn't have the caliper codes?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  6 років тому +1

      Hi Tyler, something I've only found out since making this video, is that these codes were not present on early 9-3SS from '03 on. They were only introduced on the car at or during 2005 model year. The exact date / vin of introduction isn't known.
      Luckily you won't need the codes to determine which rear brakes you have (there are only two, vented and non vented). On the front the standard size is 285, with 314s on the Aero 2.0 (to 2006, 302s thereafter) and 345s on the V6. If you have 285s the calipers will be marked as shown in the video.
      The long and short of it though, is that on early cars without the codes, you'll need to get your tape measure out. You'll then need to refer back to the video table to determine the brake size (15. 16, 16+, 17) to be able to choose the right pads.
      Hope this helps.

      Mine are 302/278, but it is a 2008. I just found it odd that it was missing. Thanks for the help though!

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  6 років тому

      That's odd. Is your car just missing the codes or is the whole plate missing off the pillar?

    • @tylerswartz8671
      @tylerswartz8671 6 років тому +1

      Only those last two codes, the sticker is fully intact and everything else is there, there's even dashes for where those letters should be.

    • @RonnieTheFinBear
      @RonnieTheFinBear 4 роки тому

      Tyler, my '08 doesn't either. My assumption is at some point they must've decided the caliper codes were redundant because they tell you the same information as the rotor codes
