    Was at the point of getting rid of my Saab 93, the condensation was horrendous on occasion, was undriveable without copious amounts of rags to absorb, everything you said in this vlog was absolutely bang on, the scuttle cavity was absolutely full of dirt, blocked the water drain point outlet, cleaned, resealed and a few days later when the car had dried out it's been brilliant! happy days, thank you, saved me a few quid there and fallen back in love with my 93

    Thank you very much! I drive a 2005 convertible. I took my car to a ' Saab specialist" who couldn't find it and told me it had to be the windscreen. I had to go to a specialist to replace the windscreen. I could not believe it and was very happy when I fond your tutorial. The foam gasket was totally gone. I replied it and it is perfect. We had an awful lot of rain the last couple of days but it didn't leak anymore.

    I should have subscribed earlier!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish I had watched this video a few years ago... I have a soft top which has suffered all the issues perfectly described. I spent months putting out a towel to catch the water ingress, bought rubber mats to avoid the carpet mold smell, bought a half car cover - which I now use religiously now, also to prevent sun damage.... Then I see your videos and realise the two issues have also caused the fan to stop working... Thanks again - TOP UA-camr!

    Thank you SO much for this fantastic tutorial. I’ve had my 2005 9-3 from new but last winter was the first time I had a pond in the footwell, having now seen the contents of the drain gulley, I think I’ve been very lucky: 18 years worth of leaves had turned into a lovely compost and completely blocked it. All clear now with a new foam gasket replacing the one that had almost completely perished, my next job is to follow your other tutorial and lift the carpet to dry everything out. Thanks again 😊

    Cyd,
    I experienced, or rather my son did, a large slop of rainwater into the passenger footwell. I watched your video and ordered gasket and sealant. It wasn't an easy job.getting the wiring harness over the top of the pollen fiekter was a bit of a squeeze but not insurmountable.
    There was no foam where the pollen filter sits, nor any evidence if it having being there so I didn't fit any.
    Job done. Many thanks.

    Thank you for this helpful video! My wife's '06 9-3 convertible had water on the passenger side floor and I was afraid the soft top or windshield had a major leak. Once I disassembled things down to the cabin filter box I found both problems, a disintegrated seal and a completely packed rubber drain. Your directions were complete and, incidentally, work well on the US version of this car.
    Since this vehicle is nearing 20 years old, I strongly suggest anyone who has this car should clean the rubber drain and replace the gasket to be on the safe side. Thanks again!

    Thanks for this video. My car was parked up for a few weeks when I was working away, and during which we had a few torrential rain storms. When I got home I found my passenger footwell under an inch of water. My heater fan had stopped working and it all made sense after watching this video. I found the draining plug blocked with dirt which was easy to clear just as you said. Anyway, I was able to save my fan by simply accessing it through the pollen filter and spraying it with lubricant while I turned it with my fingers. After a few minutes the motor started to spin under its own steam. All it cost me was a few squirts of WD40 and a few minutes of my time. I'm a very happy bunny.

    Thanks Cyd. I’m new to Saabs and my 05 9-3 had the exact same problem in heavy rain and when I washed it. Cleaned the drain bung out underneath the cabin filter thinking it was that and it was still doing it. I’ve just done the seat around the filter housing earlier this evening and your tutorial made it Uber easy - took 30 minutes from start to finish and cost about £13 in foam gasket and silicone. Thankyou!

    Hey sid
    I have to say this was the best bit of maintenance I've done, and your video made it so easy.
    Learnt that wipers can be put in service mode... Never knew that.
    On removing lower scuttle...
    Just as you described.. Drain bung full of soil and blocked.....
    Water 4.5 inch deep half way up filter..... Filter soaking.... No foam
    Seat for filter.... On removing housing..... No foam filter anywhere
    Just a dirty outline of where it once lived..... Air intake chute for motor
    Soaking and dirty.... Front passenger footwell 2 inches deep in water
    Windows internally misted...
    Bad smell from sodden carpets
    That act like sponges.
    Did the repair today and motor no longer squeals after the wd40
    Spray as shown.
    All in all a great video that made things so easy....
    Thank you.

    I just want say a huge THANK YOU for your extremely helpful videos on the Saab 9-3! I really appreciate the time you take with the details on the type of torx screw bits you need, and step by step instructions and clear video quality. Truly grateful, as my Saab has been a headache these past few months, with the extreme cold temperatures we've been experiencing in Calgary, Alberta, Canada! My fan officially stopped working and I think it's because of moisture getting in from behind the cabin air filter, and was squealing like mad the day prior lol. I just watched your other video concerning that, so I'll be removing the fan and lubricating the bearings and hopefully I don't have to replace it. Thank you again!!

  • @shawshankkid
    @shawshankkid 4 роки тому +3

    Perfect video and everything needed to know to keep the dreaded water out. Even if it's not leaking I think it's best to do it, because sooner or later with the age of the 9-3 it will leak. And it's the perfect time and weather at the moment.
    I've just finished doing this job, my tips- use a old credit card type scraper to get the worst off, finish the rest off with lighter fluid on a cloth ( easy work) I used double sided glazing foam tape 12mm x 4mm, adhesive on both sides. Must be at least 4mm thick as the filter housing is slightly recessed. (4mm is ideal) With the same fitting procedure as Cyd. ( Good tip - keep the final join at the bottom of the filter housing) Do a few practice fittings before taking the outer tape off to do the final fit. Once that foam tape as touched down it will be for life believe me. No need for any silicone with double sided quality glazing tape. Cheers.

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Shawshank, yes I'd agree that every 9-3 owner should look at this on heir car. The newest 9-3s are 10 years old now and that OE foam is poor.
      I used a sharp wood chisel and some brake cleaner. It comes off easy enough, so whatever is to hand.
      The silicon is belt and braces really, but it's impossible to know what kind of foam people around the world will be able to get, so it helps to be sure of a seal that will last.

      Cyclone Cyd your explanations are very clear and well demonstrated through video. The fact you do these tips means I don’t have to make mistakes or spend unnecessary time because you’ve done the tutorial. As an aside, I noticed the plastic engine cover wasn’t in-situ...is that deliberate?

    What a great video, i've got a damp carpet in the rear passenger footwell, still trying to find the culprit for that, but thought i'd check the cabin filter amongst other things whilst playing around with the car....approx 1 1'2" water sitting in the pan, drain plug totally bunged up, a/c is working still with no water issues in the passenger footwell, but followed your vid anyways so hopefully no issues in the future!!! A big thumbs up!!!!

    Very helpful advice. Thank you for sharing. The 1999 convertible 9-3 automatic I’ve just bought did an average of just 1,300 miles between MoTs since 2003, yet it was fully serviced by a main dealer every year, with everything, including oils and all the filters replaced regardless of necessity - apparently each time!
    Am hoping all these other important checks and maintenance were also carried out.
    71,000 miles in 22 years is not a lot.

      It's worth the effort. A lot of people vent the car to dry the carpet, but forget (or don't realise) about the water under the carpet. If left it'll rot the floor out.

    This happened to my 9-3 during the storms of early 2022 in the UK. It was like driving with bathloads of water being thrown at the car.
    the damage became clear when my fan stayed ON leading to a flat battery. My cabin filter and water outlet must have been blocked as the module behind short-circuited.
    This was fixed by Abbott Racing in Suffolk who I highly recommend. It's so common they diagnosed the problem over the phone.

    I am in the US and have a 2007 model year 9-3. There is an additional black plastic cover that goes between the white filter housing and the long wiper cowl, in which I assume is to reduce the likelihood of water ingress.

    Hello Cyd - good work as always, great to learn from your videos!
    I've just meet some opinions about this kind of fix in Saab's 9-3 and some of the owners recommend not to use a sillicone due to the fact, that it can cause a problem with rust in the follow time. Insted of using silicone, they've recommended to use a butyl sealent or poliuretan sealant.

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  3 роки тому +2

      It'll only cause rust in contact with bare metal. In this location it's got electrostatic primer and a paint layer between it and the metal.

    Si quitas el filtro de habitáculo, por la parte delantera del vehículo bajo el parabrisas, puedes acceder con un w40 al eje del motor en caso de que no gire. Si no funciona, ya toca desmontar como bien explica en el vídeo y ya actuar en consecuencia. Un saludo.
