Andy died just a few days after his 30th birthday of a myocarditis, an enlarged heart, due to his previous use of cocaine. It was sad because he was so popular and talented.
It was very sad.

Myocarditis is a virus but the cocaine had weakened his heart making him more susceptible to getting the virus. Sadly he was clean and kicked the cocaine when he got sick and died in 3 days. On the way to the hospital in the ambulance he asked his mother "Can I die from this?"
I remember when it happened, it was one of those 'moments' you never forget. I had his poster up for a long long time....

Yeah Amber you go girl, you have great taste!! I was a HUGE fan of the Bee Gees & Andy Gibb. I also had a crust on Barry GIbb (swoon) and my older sister loved Andy Gibb but hey I had posters of Bee Gees and Andy on my wall, he was so adorable & everyone was so heartbroken over the news of Andy's passing. Barry Gibb is the only brother who is alive, I can't imagine how hard this was on Barry.

Andy Gibb was my first crush!!!!! He’s Barry’s little twin , 12 years younger. His brothers, especially Barry, wrote and produced his songs. He was a huge thing among teenage girls and had 3 straight number one hits. The plan was for him to join The Bee Gees when he got older. The backing vocals are The Bee Gees.
He was so gorgeous and he looked so much like his brother Barry. He had so much talent and swagger. He only 30 when he died. The other brothers in the BeeGees were fraternal twins. Love your channel. So glad to see the younger generations finding the diverse music styles.

Yes Amber gets it! Andy was too fine and had all the girls nearly fainting! He was my crush out of the Bee Gee's, the brothers were were too old for me! This was very late 70's I was only 9 or 10! It was totally a heartbreak when he died!
The plan with Andy Gibb was that he was suppose to have a Solo Carrer for awhile and sing Part time with the Bee Gees. The Bee Gees wrote and performed backing Vocals for Andy. Andy appeared with the Bee Gees on the song You Should Be Dancing. Please react to the Live Version of You Should be Dancing to see all 4 Gibb Brothers together. Andy was announced as joining the Bee Gees full time but passed away before that could happen. Andy Gibb was 30 Years old when he passed away.

Andy was a complete heartthrob, his looks, his voice, and knowing he was the baby brother of our idols it was as if all of us fans adopted him as a teen idol, he was terrific. You should try 'An everlasting love' next, the studio version please.
I watched an interview with Barry who said his brother Andy was incredibly shy and reserved, until he hit the stage, and then he shined. I remember Andy being on the tv show Solid Gold in the early 80's, as a performer and co-host. Barry was right, that was his time to shine with confidence and swagger.

He had some good songs and performed with his brothers. He was not right up with brothers though. Bee Gees backed him up on songs and without them probably would have been a blip. Sad he died so young.

I remember watching on UA-cam the tribute the Gibb brothers did for Andy in their concert . They sang first with home movies on the big screen then it broke into him on screen performing. I saw they were all emotional. The song was 'Don't Throw it all Away'. A must see. Brings you to tears.

The brothers did a lot of the back up vocals etc. for Andy, and he most certainly was definitely a heartthrob. My sister had more pictures and posters of Andy than I could count, (I was probably 4 or 5 at the time), and not a day went by that she wasn't playing her 8-track tape of his ... oh wait, you're too young to know what 8-track tapes were. (Giggle!) Love you guys!

I've been trying for months to get J to listen to Robin sing. No disrespect to Barry, who does have an incredible voice, but there would be no Bee Gees without Barry and Robin's voices mixed together. They just need to get to the songs from the 60's, they're so much better than the songs from the 70's.

Arguably Andy had the best voice of all the Gibbs. He was one of the biggest "teen idols" of the 70's! And with those Bee's Gee's backing him (and writing and producing his music too!) his music was definitely magical and a staple of the "Disco Era". The Bee Gee's (which actually stands for "The Brothers Gibb") along with their younger brother Andy DOMINATED the Disco Era along with many other artists like CHIC, The Brothers Johnson, Earth , Wind, and Fire, Heatwave, K.C. and the Sunshine Band (Harry Casey a.k.a. K.C. also wrote many other songs for a lot of artists during the Disco era as well as the Bee Gee's themselves writing and producing A LOT of music for other artists, more than most people even know). The Bee Gee's and Andy though will always be the KINGS of Disco!
