This show worked as long as it did because there was clearly fountains of love pouring out of it. Conan's self-deprication is a smokescreen for his connection to his crew, that has persisted through the years. That why he's the best.

Bill's Inside Conan episode was great. Just based on the appearances he made on Conan's TBS show, Bill had the "vibe" of a disapproving dad. Obviously he loved the show, he loved his job, and he must have loved Conan, since he stuck around for so long and made the cross country trip to keep working with him, but there was something about his stage presence that made it seem like he would be reluctant to put together a stupid prop for a writer's silly idea. But on Inside Conan, he showed that he was just as committed to the silliness as everyone else on the show. He said that he still had one of the Jesus figurines on his desk that he had made ages ago for an "Actual Items" sketch, and that he stole the "Walker, Texas Ranger" lever from NBC's storeroom to give to Conan when they went to LA. Something that Bill talked about that I guess even Robert and Conan didn't know, is that when he assembled that sheep skeleton, he didn't just dig up the bones and put them together. He had to dig up several sheep carcasses, boil them, and scrape all the fat and sinew off the bones so that they would be clean enough to be on TV. RIP Bill Tull. So many of our lives and childhoods would not have been the same without his brilliant work.

Those first 2 seasons were awesome, I loved all the goofy sketches, and I'd tell everyone "actually Conan doesn't suck!" all the time back then as a kid. Our home was also a Nielson Household so I'd make sure the show was on to try to help the ratings, and I'd use the VCR to record nearly every sketch for the first few seasons (until I went off to college and didn't have a TV for a while).
Conan's 12:30am show was immediately hilarious, the sketches and bits never needed to find it's footing, they had it from day one. Conan was nervous as an interviewer of course (and he improved exponentially over the years), but the comedy bits were great and Conan handled those well.

This is why conan was and still is true comedic and artistic genius. It takes people who truly believe in what they're doing to make a project no matter what kind, truly beautiful and to make what's trying to be given to people actual art. Beatles needed George Martin among countless others. For certain things, diy things and such this isn't always the case but diy things that become well known there's almost always a cast of believers behind the scenes that sometimes are willing to go above and beyond but usually only if they truly believe what they're doing means something to them as well. Support art if you believe in it and you can! This is a really important aspect of conan that to me always I knew at some level had to have been true for it to continue and evolve. ✌️ and ❤️

Smigel and Downey, were probably the most affective 2 comedic source guys in comedy who didn't show their faces, over decades. At least to me, they along Norm MacDonald were major sources of enjoyment over years. Conan too, I should add. Performing is of course the delivery and what is remembered, but the comedy always starts with the writer and their minds. Kind of like actors get all the fame and praise, when they are just the vessels for the content thought up by writers.

RIP Bill Tull. Conan, keep this going until you die. It won't be as funny after that, but I'd still watch it.

I remember fondly about those fake channels Conan would browse on the TV. To this day I still use the expression “INAPPROPRIATE!”.

Conan in different countries on HBO Max? I hope you went to South Africa 🇿🇦. That’s a country where I could see Conan having a good time.

I was just watching remotes of Conan in Ghana. He’s the man of the people.

Misread the title as "Robert Smigel & Conan Remember Poop Master Bill Tull". That Triumph!
