It's not the poorly designed hvac/infotainment interface, IT'S YOU! Why wouldn't you opt to use the steering wheel controls to manipulate the infotainment system? they're literally at your fingertips and don't require you to take your eyes off the road at all. I've watched other reviewers attempt to make this feature an "issue". Frankly, it's a well thought out example of forward-thinking, minimalist engineering; a non-issue. Additionally, Kia allows you to program this feature (read the owner's manual). Otherwise, a thorough, comprehensive review. Thanks.

Hvac. Haha. Yeah i think it depends on the driver. I rarely use the media since most of my listening is from carplay and i tend to use the big screen for media selection. Essentially i just pretend that switch feature doesnt exist and i have no need to switch it. But your rant was funny

As an owner, I like the climate control. The option allows you to choose which of the two interfaces you want or have it remain on the last selected mode. Works well, cleans up the interior but still separates out the climate from the infotainment. Of course you can adjust the climate there too.
Also as an owner, you use your app to activate the heated or cooled seats, steering wheel heater, and temperature so it is ready when you get in. Curiously missing the heated windshield but does have defroster.
I don’t use the gauge interfaces like you had, I prefer the dynamic display that shows weather and time of day scenes (sunrise, sunset, etc). Really pleasant.
No wonder you got such terrible mileage, sport mode kills economy as it mostly saves the battery for bursts of speed and keeps the revs up. In Smart or Eco, 40+ is easy in the city. 80 mph is about 34-35. Mixed, 38 is not to hard to achieve.

I'm only getting around 35ish mpg but I keep it on Eco and try to coast the majority of the time so the ev kicks on. Alot are saying they are getting in the 50s mpg. They must be doing all city driving

23:00 The "major" problem you found can be fixed. Hold down the toggle-between-radio-climate button for a few seconds. An option will appear to allow it to default to the radio instead of climate or to stay wherever you last left it.

@@titalx7169 I spent a few days not using the volume knob on my 2016 Tucson to see if I could get used to it. I drive around with the windows open and the music at high volume. When I come to a traffic light I drop the volume, a lot. Then when the light turns green I crank it back up. With a volume knob I can change it in under one second. I have a Sportage in the UK and as others have said the HVAC/Infotainment screen can be programmed to stay on whichever screen you choose and not default back to one or the other 😉 You would probably get nearer the stated MPG by driving in ECO, I average 45mpg around town in ECO, Sport mode does liven things up quite nicely but does clobber the MPG and you didn’t mention the paddle shifts so you can short shift in Sport mode rather than using the full revs. I personally think it is the perfect family crossover, especially in Hybrid form (no range anxiety) Good review and you can be forgiven for not getting to grips with your biggest gripe as you have only had it for a week 👍

I have 27,800 miles on my 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid. In the warmer months I will achieve a consistent 39-42 around town, 35-37 on highway. In the winter it will go down from warming up the car and I believe the hybrid batteries do not perform as well in the cold. The lower mpg on the highway is more than likely due to the six speed automatic transmission. The highway is where a CVT or higher speed transmission shines. ( 8-9 speed )

Personally I think the switch button between HVAC and Audio is a GREAT idea. Instead of cluttering your instrument panel with over two DOZEN touch controls, they limited it to JUST one dozen. In that space, a dozen choices is more than enough. More than that would just add confusion and take your eyes off the road even longer. This way, whichever choice you toggle, you are only dealing with half as many buttons related to just that one particular mode.

@@GTGarageTalk , why did Sony create a glossy computer monitor (the first one ever). I thought it was really stu--d, but other manufacturers followed. It would be interested to know if there were any Americans testing the new controls, or just Koreans who do not constantly interact with both climate and audio controls, or maybe are just more patient. I read a lot of comments (bad habit) and I see a lot of comments from people obsessed with how things look vs. how things work. What I cannot tell, which age groups they represent. When iPhone first came out, most of the reviewers expected a big failure.

The spare tire is essential. The Honda CRV Hybrid doesn't have one. I've had tires blow out on the freeway. No repair kit will fix that and don't always want to wait for roadside service.
The matte color looks cool, but you can't go through a carwash with that. Hand wash only. And if there is a scratch, it can't be fixed. An entire paint job is the only remedy.

He has a Ford Fusion Hybrid (forgot what year) which has a Nickel Cadium Hybrid battery! That's the reason he picked that model. With the major fires that erupted in EVs in Florida following Ian last early Fall (at least 25 total burnded out Homes with The EVs parked in the garage after the EV batteries got wet with Salt Water!!), and the amount of deaths caused by E-Bikes and Scooters in NYC form Lithium batteries catching fire, gives me Major Pause !!

The number of complaints can change so drastically from the time we film vehicles to when you are watching the video, and the consistency from my hand would not be there to actually include that in our video reviews, unfortunately. Also, we usually get into vehicles very early in their lifespan, so that is another reason we could not be consistent in that reporting.

The radio and HVAC controls are programmable, so you can have it as you like. Most of us like using the steering for radio controls and we also have no problem touching an area to control it otherwise.

I was seriously considering the Sportage SX-Prestige until I discovered an issue which is a dealbreaker for me. There are no normal reverse back up lights on each side for other people to see. Back up lights aren’t just for you to see behind the vehicle when it’s dark. It’s also a safety feature that let others know the car is backing up when it’s daylight or dark. The Sportage has a single light in the center down low at bumper level. It shines down on the ground to benefit the back up camera. It’s barely noticeable in the daytime. Regular back up lights can also be seen from the side by other drivers when a car is backing out of a parking space at the store.
