      Abdolutely wrong about anomal products. Only partially correct about salt. Normal tablesalt with aluminium is unhealthy. Mineral rich salt. He is absolutely wrong about insulin resistance. Total nonsense that body subcuteneus fat causes insulin resistance. It is fructose in liver which causes fatty liver, which then in turn causes insulin resistance.

    Hello I am 57 and on October 1st I started a vegan life style from October 1st to December 27Th I have lost 39 pounds and I love eating this way all my kids on Christmas we prayed before everyone ate and my son asked me if I was going to cook he told me I know your not eating at all. I ate a nice big plate of greens and black beans and fruit. I feel great and I wake up early and want to run I am going to join a gym. I seen my Doctor this month he asked me mister Morris are you eating and I told him I eat a 100% more food he did not know what to say.

    I'm 62 and vegan for 7 years. Just started my raw food high fruit journey a few months ago. I want to avoid what my parents and grandparents suffered and died from because the ate the Standard American Diet. I was a caregiver to my elderly family members for 17 years. None were overweight and all were good people. I watched the destruction of their diet and the medications they took and the surgeries they underwent. That's why I changed.

    He mentions walking for 15 minutes after eating. I can do that. He says it lowers blood sugar for the next 24 hours.
    Chia seeds and flax seeds will raise iron levels. I couldn't donate blood until I did this.
    Much like alcohol, it's best not to have it around. Switch from coffee to tea and then stop sweetening your green tea.
    I lost 4 pounds over the last few days.
    I've been eating brown rice and butter. And salad and nuts.
    I am starting to feel better.
    As for movie popcorn, I don't remember the last time I ate that crap without a horrific headache. It killed a bunch of Mexican workers who all died of a bizarre and very rare pulmonary problem.
    I saw what he's talking about food addicts who couldn't sit through a lecture without eating! LOTS of very obese people in drug addiction! HTF are they going to help addicts when THEY ARE addicted?
    Obesity is the only addiction you wear.

    These stories really inspire me and mine is very similar. I got super healthy with Furhman diet about 7 years ago. I maintained most of that discipline until few years ago when COVID insanity took away my career Canada, not willing to subject myself to experimental shots. In short, it was quite a struggle for a few years and when i got working again, had to work so hard I got sick. I was off-grid, collecting firewood after finishing late in Canada winter. So a friend suggested i try the keto-diet in meantime, a half a year ago. So i tried it with minimal results. I hated it, never knowing what to eat. Finally few weeks ago, I just started veggie juicing again, since I moved into a nice apartment, doing better. Wow, after less than two weeks of juicing, what a radical health change has occurred. Every night I go to bed and feel my body healing. I was snacking horribly in previous year, but since I'm doing something so positive now, it just has shutdown the desire to snack. I'm sure I was a Buddhist in previous or future lives in my timeline. It feels right!

    i understand his promotion of desiring a slower metabolic rate in relation to the anti-aging effects, but having a slow metabolism? isn't that a result from chronic starvation? and is NOT desired? and is a result from metabolic damage? is that even real? this is a genuine question. I'm just wanting to learn :)

    • @scarlet8078
      @scarlet8078 5 років тому +3

      Yes, both are true. I am a neuro whereas Dr Furman I believe is family doc specializing in nutrition. It is true that in the lab we can increase the life span of a lab mouse by decreasing its food and hence its metabolic rate. There is less metabolic stress, and the mouse has less energy to utilize. I do not advocate this for humans who are working or in school or otherwise living modern lives. As a neuro, we really believe you need sufficient proteins and fats for neuro transmitters and to handle stress of our modern lives. Plus, deep caloric restriction like we use to increase life span in mice would be hard to self administer and would likely lead to binges or other disordered eating. On the other hand, if you are a monk whose existence is simply meditating in a cave in peaceful silence, then maybe you can live longer and still meet the demands of your life with less calories and slower metabolism. I agree with much of Dr Furman's other advice, however.

    • @CameronCajun
      @CameronCajun 3 роки тому +3

      I have a starkly different response, based on years of research. Only the very young need enhanced caloric intake of fats for neurobiological development. In adulthood, yes, starvation response WILL include slowed metabolism, but taking that to the extreme (acute starvation-->6months +- 2 months) is not logical to apply to the subject of healthy aging. Everything he emphasizes is absolutely correct. Again, I (and my spouse) have years of research in nutrition, nutritionally-deficient "created" diseases, and AMA responses to these co-morbidities with emphases on pharmaceuticals. Summary: do what the man says. It's what the research clearly shows.

      Modern technology allows us to do many things better than was an option for people in the past
      And everyone over 50 is being encouraged to take B12 whatever their diet
      See also virmtanin D now that we have so much less sun exposure...which in itself can be hazardous to health.
      B12 is easy to make and most of it is in any case given to farm animals.

He died of a massive heart attack 1 week after turning 79. Unfortunately, people have to change themselves as far as what they choose to eat. I cannot control what my family chooses to eat, but I can control what I eat. I hope that your health continues to be well.

    So.. 1) *Lower Insulin* , 2) *Lower IGF1* , 3) *Eat at a Caloric Deficit* .
    This video actually just confirms to me why a *ketogenic* diet (2,000 calories, 80% fat & omega 3 of 177g, 15% protein of 75g, & 5% complex carbs of 25g) is actually good! Because 75g of *unprocessed meat* protein spread out over 2 - 3 meals isn't enough to seriously affect *IGF1* . And 25g of complex *carbs (starch)* isn't enough to seriously affect *Insulin* .
    Plus being in Ketosis also regulates the appetite so one doesn't over eat either.
    G-BOMBS (with beans being Lupin & Soybeans) is actually very Ketogenic too!!

    • @ArtyAntics
      @ArtyAntics 4 роки тому +4

      The trouble with animal protein is that if you eat more than 5% protein as meat it is carcinogenic. Barbara O’Neill talks about doing Atkins which is pretty much ketogenic on legumes if you want to go that route. Personally I chose not too because like VJ stated, it was designed for epileptics resistant to medication and it is a survival mechanism for the body in glucose famine. I live with PTSD so I know how survival stress wore down my body and it has taken years to reset my nervous system. It was only after 2 yrs plant based I could even get out of bed and now I’m walking a mile a day. The same study tested plant proteins and there was no cancer risk with increased plant protein. I.e it’s not protein itself that is bad, it’s the animal sources that are cancerous. The other issue is all the hormones in dairy and meat, and to poor biosecurity in large agrifarms, especially in America. My chronic heavy periods improved significantly when I went plant based! There is the same issue with plants and pesticides but you can eat organic. I can’t afford 100% organic so I pick the things that are worst foods for chemical pesticides like soy to buy organic. Hope that helps

    Dr. Fuhrman, I have been a plant based, no animal products or processed oils, no processed foods. I literally make all my own food for many years. I weigh 155 and exercise, I have never been able to get off the high blood pressure and arrhythmic medication. I have tried to go off them. Within two weeks my blood pressure shoots way back up, 180/ 130 and will stay there with headaches. Why does my body still respond this way? My cardiologist is no help! What’s the deal ?

      I believe you need more water.
      Divide the amount of pounds you weight in pounds by 16.
      That's the amount of water you need.

    He speaks many "general" truths, a bit over the top. Throws out many concepts, but my issue with much he says, is, where is proof? Where are any studies and trials that back up what he says? There are many documented studies that are in contradiction to what he states. He throws out things as if they are fact which concerns me. The studies he does present are questionable. The nuts and seeds is inconclusive, unless the study only involves a diet of nuts and seeds vs a diet of no nuts and seeds. Otherwise way to many variables mixed in. People who eats alot of nuts, tend to be eating "healthier" any way, and are not generally carbaholics. He tends not to look at the whole picture.

    Research shows that eating a moderate amount of certain seed oils like rapeseed oil and olive oil are useful to help reduce saturated fats, as well as providing other metabolic benefits.

    • @happycook6737

      "Research" funded by companies that make those oils. Unreliable research. Oils aren't natural, whole foods! You wouldn't drink oil by itself because it is disgusting. Please rethink this because oils accelerate the clogging of our blood vessels, so not good.

    I disagree somewhat here. In the United States, Black people (dark skinned in general) have a higher cancer rate due to the color of their skin. Sun light isn't as easy to get here, Lighter skinned peoples have a far easier time getting the needed Vitamin D from the sun light, Black people have a far more difficult time. (this is the only real racial difference I know as far as disease is related).

    •  4 роки тому

      Lol no. Black synthesize vitamin d and it looks different within the body. Dark skin absorbs light, while white reflects everything. Thats why white ppl burn so easily even in snow areas. Black ppls diet and stress and lack of healthcare due to poverty is why they are more likely to die from cancer even though they get the same diagnosis rates as their white counterparts. It has nothing to do with their skin, which is a natural sunscreen. Same reason they are lactose intolerant, if dairy is for vitamin D, why are whites mainly lactose tolerant? Bc thats the only way they get vitamin D. Not from the actual sun.

      @@lf8238 We cook with books by Maria Emmerich. The key was ZERO sugar (less than 3 grams per day) and while 30 Grams of carbs are allowed ---- I went to zero. I also went Bread free. I also walked 5 miles a day (one hour). Another key was making sugar free desserts using cream cheese & sugar substitute called swerve. We ate full plates of fresh salad & protein daily. While lots of red meat not good for you ----- we try and do it only once or twice a week. We backfill with Fish, chicken, pork & shellfish. Our red meat is mostly grass fed. Google Dr. Berg on the you tube search. He has a lot of great info on HOW our systems work & how keto affects us. Bottom line ----- ITS NOT A DIET fad....... for the simple reason that once we reached our ideal weight ----- we have not abandoned our way of eating. The first week is the hardest ---- after that --- it becomes a lifestyle and not just a diet. Good luck --- i wish you the best !!!!!
