  • Many people would rather break up with their spouse than give up Doritos, pizza, or a pint of ice cream after a long day.
The food you crave doesn't talk back, question your decisions, or tell you that you're wrong. It only makes you feel better in the moment.
The problem is these foods become addictive with each meal. And soon life can revolve around getting the next fix. While it sounds extreme that is the reality facing millions of people every day.
And once you've hit that point breaking up with food will be infinitely harder than ending any relationship you've ever been in.
So, it is time to reset your relationship with food.
Discover how to conquer cravings and crush unhealthy habits with seven-time New York Times bestselling author, Dr. Joel Fuhrman.
He joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll for an insightful conversation about food addiction and filling the body, mind, and belly with nourishing foods that can help to reclaim your health. In time your relationship will food will do more than reset. It will become stronger and healthier than ever.
    It's not a breakup. It's an evolution.

I'm glad that Dr Fuhrman talks about feeling crappy when swapping to this style of eating. I've been doing a whole food vegan diet now for about 3-4 weeks and feel yuck. I wake up every morning feeling drained and drag myself through the day. I know I'm eating enough calories so I suspect that it is that physiological change that is happening. I look forward to coming out the other side!

I also felt same on some plant diets - certain foods make me feel terrible - ie rice, corn ... I feel much better with Dr Fuhrman's way, my cells seem to respond to salads, seeds, walnuts, berries, greens, etc. It's just about minor changes and you'll find the one that works !!

I once had success by going on a 3-days water fast that broke my addiction to oil, salt and sugar. But I had one cheat day and it was over, I was addicted again. Learning how these foods cause not only heart problems, but causes depression, a loss of neuroplasticity, and so on, is a wakeup call. I must stop eating these addictive foods now. Thank you, Dr. Fuhrman and Chuck!

@@jamesigo6324 Fasting for health is a lifestyle, a lifelong journey of being mindful about food consumption. The 3-day water only fast has shown me what toxic VS true hunger felt like.
Sitting w my results, from weight loss to no longer liking junky processed foods, I’d say the 3 day fast has been miraculous for my health & eating habits. Eating whole plants with legumes now tastes incredible and all the fiber is so filling. Luckily, I don’t have chronic health concerns atm, so there’s no need to see Dr. Fuhrman.

It was good to hear you speak about a deep subject…about how we (as a person) can reach fulfillment in a positive and healthy way with internal self esteem. Our hope and mindset on our daily life affects not just us but those around us. Change does take time. The process through the change that has the ability to grow and build our character.

attended Dr. Fuhrman in Houston, TX Nov23 at Dr. Montgomery's summit.
Dr. Fuhrman's were the first books on wfpb I purchased decades ago. It's been a long road to get more committed to his Nutritarian wfpb eating after tacking back on forth, off the wagon and back from SAD; listening to a lot of holistic doctors who he's influenced. Each has their unique orb that benefits health. Dr. Fuhrman's has been consistent and steadfast to follow. His understanding psychology of our poor eating choices is comforting to focus on a new mindset and future. THANK YOU DR. FUHRMAN!!!

Dr Fuhrman is so right about "you can be healthy at any weight" being a fallacy. It's just that so many people are obese or overweight that they feel a little better being in a group. As they say, "Misery loves company". I would never shame an overweight person, but at the same time I don't believe them when they claim they're happy and healthy the way they are, I take the body positivity at any weight movement with a big pinch of salt.

I like the plant based food, enjoy making itand see benefits when I eat wholly plant based. But on the other side of that coin is the relationship with my comfort foods since childhood. His primary motivation is to help people. Would you rather he kept information to himself? You don't have to buy any books, I haven't, and am super grateful about the free information I get from this and other trustworthy WFPB channels. We're lucky to have these wonderful people. I happen to be writing a children's book about healthy eating, it is not to make money, but to spread a little seed of health hopefully. And we all need to have a roof over our heads, so if on top of helping people we make a living, that's even more positive. But I agree about excessive pushy marketing being a turn-off.

When someone criticises you about healthy eating and says they're happy to stay fat and unhealthy, you can simply say, "It's your choice". This gets them thinking that they are free to choose what to eat but then they shouldn't complain they're unfit or are borderline diabetic or any item of clothing looks terrible on them.

Most of my friends are now in their late 60s or 70s so they blame it on their age even though when they were my current age of 66, they weren't anywhere close to my condition or even when they were 60 they weren't close to my age 66 condition.

The underlying rage and anger is close to the surface and it's very clear, especially when eating those foods that they villianize around them. It's pretty shocking.

I wish he did speak this way all of the time. Judging from some comments, it seems there are quite a few people who have not see him berating people who don’t subscribe to his opinion of what healthy eating is.

I have a food addiction and am coming back to a vegan diet. Mostly Whole Foods but I am now aware of the salt and wheat. Food addiction means I am looking for happiness out there in food, but it was just an illusion which is why the ego gets addicted when it finds some sense pleasure and it never lasts hence the addiction. I am now looking for true happiness within myself and not in the outside world. I am going through withdrawal symptoms and the ego swaps one addiction for another (such as internet instead of food) but that is to be expected. Many people are “no longer vegan” because of the psychological withdrawal symptoms from food addiction and they “feel a lot better” the instant they eat animal foods again- that’s a clear indication they are battling an addiction

I was once vegan for 8 years in my 30s. Read books first. Iron down to borderline, very skinny. I do much better with fish and chicken, rest of diet along vegan lines. Now feeling stronger and fitter in my late 60s than I ever did. Overall I think Dr Fuhrman is great but there seems to be no leeway here for our individuality. I have never been remotely overweight. I follow the Mediterranean plan and lost weight I didn't need to lose even with this. Always been sporty. There's more to life than just what we eat.

      Quit sugar/salt/oils/simple carbs.
      Eat G-BOMBS daily.
      Greens (raw and cooked)
      Beans (overcooked)
      Onions (raw)
      Mushrooms (cooked)
      Berries
      Seeds (and nuts)
The above are nutrient-dense foods to preserve health!

No need to go to a retreat, start by cleaning your environment, i.e. get rid of all processed food/junky treats in the house and stop buying them. Follow a whole food plant based diet. Keep it simple and sustainable, so no complex recipes. Dr Barnard and Chef AJ also give great advice as does the Slim Vegan Ryan Adams.

The USA is not the only country where by culture, we depend on other people liking us. I live in Europe. It's difficult at times to figure out those who who hide that they want meat no matter what. They know all too well why I don't want to eat meat or cheese, but they go great lengths to make me or what I say appear ridicule and no fun. There are people out there who are on a whole different level of hypocrisy.
This had unfortunately impacted in me getting a job or getting kicked out of it because of what I believe in.

How to lose fat but not lose muscles? I'm being measured at a UK gym. Recent weight loss. 0.5 kg wasn't fat just muscle. Overall my weight is down which I'm happy about but I'm not gaining muscles but losing. Not enough heavy weights? Not enough protein? Dr. Greger recommends protein restriction for longevity.

I suggest you check out the wonderful Simon Hill. His You Tube channel is called The Proof with Simon Hill. He has some very interesting interviews regarding adequate protein on a plant based diet. He also has a free recipe ebook on his website with higher protein vegan recipes. I rate him highly (just like I do Dr Fuhrman!).

Keep exercising, I am very slim and have muscles where I want them (arms, etc.) I am 57 years old and a petite woman! Get your protein (but no need for excessive quantities) from beans and other legumes, broccoli too.

Animal protein doesn't build muscle or we would all look like Arnold Swarztenegger.
Why is everybody so obsessed with losing muscle with weight loss? I've seen bodybuilders get fat after they started working out. Just use your muscles in everyday life & workout @ the gym & swim but don't obsess over it.
