I lost almost 40 poubds in 3 months and still going strong. Funny thing is, I thought it was just gonna be losing weight. So I also didn;t expect : happiness; personality change; pain free; reduced stress; increased alertness. I can't thank Dr. Fuhrman enough. Imagine if the whole world knew about this.

"No such thing as a healthy overweight person" Amen. I dropped from 235lbs (6'2") to 175 in 2 years and at 61 years old...NEVER felt better. Tons of energy..NO drugs..I hardly sweat even when active. No more beef..no more dairy..no chicken. I am SO tired of being told I am "skinny"...the real problem is everyone else is FAT!! Joel has hit the nail on the head. Fruits..veggies..and MOVE!! I will never ever be a FAT animal again. Never!! Live long and prosper..there are NO old fat people..they are all dead..:)

Your books don't sale very well in New Orleans you said? No kidding.I live near there and I feel like a pariah in public because at 55, I have the body of a 20 year old, 6 foot running back. Currently, I am approaching day 500 without skipping one day of working out and eating a whole food vegan diet. Everybody I see around me every day is OBESE.
I was that fat cajun 2 years ago, smoking, drinking, fast food, fried food, junk food. I quit it all cold turkey, don't even drink coffee anymore, just water. I was physically at deaths door and now strangers ask me "are you a runner?", "are you a triathlete?". Crazy thing is, they don't want to hear a word about giving up their terrible dietary habits.......

I am 70 years old. I do water aerobics 3x per week and love going for walks. I love good “homemade food” that I make myself.
I know there are no additives in my food. I like all foods and change up my meals often, with all the food choices it’s easy to do.
I love trying new recipes . I eat only baked food I have made. Yesterday I had rhubarb cake yum! I do not hate any food but eat from smaller plates. When I am hungry I eat. Sometimes I do not eat when I am hungry. I enjoy my daily food life. I am not overweight but I am not skinny just right! I stress less because I am not making drastic changes. If you have food issues just start with baby steps, like when you were a baby. I wish everyone well!

So, my 16 & 11 y/I heard this talk. We had a very involved discussion about many of his key points. They both ha a very good understanding- strong foundation as we have been plant based for a few years. After hearing this they understand so much more. My 11 y/I began crying and when I asked her why she said "because I like those foods and now I can't eat them." So, I reassured her and reminded her that whole food taste good.

Look at the audience response. I was thinking they're thinking about lunch, maybe the guys moving around are leaving. And they give him a standing ovation. Maybe they're ready to change. I feel so lucky to have heard from Joel Fuhrman shortly after he his Eat to Live book came out. 32 years too late but I'm 50 now and that had to make a huge difference in how whatever cancer I was cooking up has progressed (or regressed!) since then and heart disease. I can still run around and work out. I'm stronger possibly from doing calisthenics. I'm refining my diet and trying to not overeat. I focused just on what I ate for a long time. And would love to go to bed with pecans and dates. Now they're a small part of a giant salad with blueberries and apples and lemon and a head of romaine (which I ate early on as well, but now I only eat them that way - and almost never as a stand alone dish - maybe I'll have a date and a handful of pecans, but I try to avoid it.) Think I'm going to get better, get a little leaner, get rid of some asthma like stuff I have, make my joints feel better and enjoy running more - I had that happen recently and want to maintain / reattain that state. I fasted for 6 days to recover from some breathing problems and it was amazing how positive it made me feel. I think anytime I feel sick or negative or gain too much weight I'll do it again. Of course you need to know how to eat healthfully first. But I find it recharges me. And thinking about healthy recipes. Forget about it. Just wait till you're hungry and I can just see and taste the combinations. And I get real creative.

Sadly I've watched this man for years and haven't changed my diet much. I still eat fried foods and sweets. I am hooked. But i keep watching listening and reading. I will keep on working until i make permanent change. Hopefully before its too late. Im ready to put Forks over Knives, Fed Up, Vegucated, tired of being Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead, Hungry for Change, can no longer live Overfed and Undernourished, and done with Diet Fiction; all vegan-based documentaries ive watched over the years.

I believe most of this information is sound, but I would love it if studies were cited and shown to support these statements. I keep a BMI of 20.5, take no medication and have excellent results on all tests that test health, but I don't follow a nutritarian diet, just eat whole food plant based, not religiously. I tried the GBOMBS thing and I couldn't do it. I'm sure it works for some people though and it's certainly better that SAD diets or keto or Paleo or any other low carb renditon of how to lose weight and die early diet is popular at the time. If all people are focused on is weight, then the cocaine diet, I understand, is awesome.

No snacking. Eat regular meals. Then enjoy your movie. Break your bad habit of mindless eating. When you eat, focus on the food. No distractions.

True, but the fat should be bound to fiber, such as avocados or nuts.

"if I had to eat this way for the rest of my life, jus shoot me now"
I said this regarding the keto diet that a dietician tried to put me on.. I tried it out for two weeks... The lack of fruit and increased fat made me feel horrible. I was trying to follow the keto diet at a plant based individual. It was so restrictive and horrible.
Now I'm here. Really figuring it out.

I was in the same boat, doing paleo and then Keto and then I got terribly ill. Give Dr. Fuhrman's Nutritarian way of eating a try - it helped me soooo much. I recommend his book Eat for Life and his cookbook too. The recipes make it a lot easier to transition to his diet.

So the 1.5 grams per kg of body weight for protein is bonkers?
I practically gave up on vegetables due to looking pregnant, gut very distended not a good look for a male.
Do Bodybuilders DIE younger by eating too much protein?
It takes 5 hours for the stomach to empty after a decent meal. So not eating 5 hours before bed is a very sensible approach to take.
I lost 35 lbs by eating OMAD and nothing was off the menu, nothing tracked or weighed. Suffice to say, vegetables only played a very small part, mostly concentrated on fats, moderate protein and lastly carbs.
    Generally good advice.

Can someone please explain how alcohol actually works on weight??
Don't understand why, alcohol should be so higher in calories when there isn't any fat in it. Also... If I'm not eating, fat for a period, to lose weight. How could alcohol/insulin-spikes push more fat in to, a fat storage. If their basicly isn't any fat present in the diet ??

    • @dj.h7424

alcohol has many calories, also it's basically toxic. I managed to stop 10 years ago it took 1 year to stop cravings; nutritarian gave me self esteem.

Hurting your children by not eating healthfully: Let's not forget the obvious: You're children are gonna eat what you do. If you don't buy junk food and stock your house with it, but instead have beans, vegetable bean soups, veggies, fruit, etc - they'll eat that. But it's very hard not to eat chips, ice cream, etc, if that shit is in the house.
