    Home free is 100% a cappella. The beat boxer is Adam Rupp, and there are several videos of him performing a "Drum Solo" with his mouth. The one making the Jaw Harp sound is Adam Chance. He was the one with the vest standing in the back of the group.

    • @wendischambach6181

      The videos of Adam Rupp's beatboxing solo work is often taken from their concerts and he has won several beatboxing competitions. He usually does about a 5 minute solo for the audience, for all of us who couldn't believe that a person could do all of that vocally without assistance of instruments. It's quite incredible. In fact, during their concerts, they have 3 people in this group that can go low enough to shake the theater and make it rumble: Tim Foust, Adam Chance, and Adam Rupp. You can feel it in your seat! Group breakdown: Rob Lundquist (tenor - front row on left with glasses and large dark beard), Austin Brown (tenor - front row middle with reddish hair and lighter vest, did a lot of the lead in this one), Tim Foust (bass with 5 octave range - front row on right with dark hair and white shirt with suspenders), Adam Chance or "Chance" (baritone and can cover bass - back row on left with beard and dark brown vest, replaced original founding group member Chris Rupp a couple of years ago), Adam Rupp (beatboxer and tenor - back row on right with blondish hair). They were also on reality competition show called the SingOff and won the season after Pentatonix. They took notes from Pentatonix's journey and made social media presence including UA-cam to gain traction after winning. If you can't find more of their stuff here on UA-cam, then you're not trying. They also have toured the world and recently made it all the way to Australia a couple of years back, I believe.

    They are quite famous. They won the Sing Off the year after Pentatonix. Two of the members are from Minnesota, one from Georgia, one from Alabama, and one from Texas.
    They are styled as country a capella but they do a wide variety of covers and originals. My favorites are their cover of End of the Road, the mash up of Thinking out loud and Get it on, and a newer collaboration cover of U2s Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For with Peter Hollens and a couple dozen of their patrons.

    The best thing about Home Free is how versatile they are. They are country a capella but they can do so many genres. They also have an incredible sense of humor and can go from gospel to country to pop to R & B to something completely out there and funny. I hope you explore them a little further.

    I have 106 of their songs on my Playlist. I stumbled onto them a year ago and it has been an adventure. They do covers and originals and have a tune and video for every mood from gospel to country rock and more. What I love about their covers is that they always stay true to the spirit of the originals, but always make them their own. The video's they put out during quarantine whilst spread throughout the country has been superb. Their songs usually showcase an aspect of performing that that takes so much talent to pull off, but they do it effortlessly. Their arrangements are always topnotch. My favorite in that regard is 'do you hear what I hear' . Just one recommendation. Headphones. Never listen to them without headphones unless you are watching them live. Just go to their channel and enjoy.

    Welcome to the world of Home Free. You'll love these guys, they're EXTREMELY talented. Definitely react to more of their music. They are labeled as "country acapella" but they sing many different genre's. Their harmonies are so damn good. Look to react to one of their originals next, like "Dive Bar Saints" a catchy tune with an upbeat vibe. They also have covered Boy2Men's "End of the Road" which is R&B, and even John Denver's "Take me home, country Roads" but it's unlike any other version you've heard. They are addicting....oh they also have a humorous side too. Their Butt's Remix they sing a mashup of 6 booty songs :)

    • @Indigo_moon
      @Indigo_moon 4 роки тому +3

      They haven't called themselves a "Country A Capella Band" for a while now. They refer to themselves as an "All Vocal Band". They chose to become a Country band when it was suggested by one of the "Sing Off" producers. They had failed several try-outs to the show and the producer suggested it would be a good idea to set them apart from everyone so they agreed, then they got on the show (per Austin). When they started making original music they wanted to do more music that suited them with a different sound, more authentic. So they started doing less country style music than they used to (like Rob doing more R&B singing, which is more his style). They explained this in a video I watched a while back. Of course they will always be doing some country but they wanted to get away from the "Country" label because that's not who they are anymore.

    • @miamidolphinsfan
      @miamidolphinsfan 4 роки тому +5

      @@Indigo_moon they don't label themselves that way but most people do, and most their songs still are country flavored....why such a hostile reaction ?

      I would also add "Country Fried Pop Medley" to hear some of the pop genre also. Their SingOff performance with Jewel of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" shows off some jazz elements. Their rendition of "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" shows some southern gospel. But I would definitely agree that their sense of humor is delightful; it's woven into all of their live shows.

      @@miamidolphinsfan And Kevin, I would agree that they still have quite a bit of country flavor, despite their best efforts. Their talent just isn't limited exclusively to country. It's how I knew them first and may be how I will always think of them but I can appreciate their desire to market outside the genre. I guess when I think of the label of country, it means "approachable", "familiar", "down-home", "comfortable" to me, reminds me of "my" people and that would definitely be Home Free.

    The term is acapella: singing without accompanying musical instruments. It’s incredibly time-consuming to create all the sounds. The resurgence in interest in acapella music has been spurred on with the film “Pitch Perfect” and the TV show “Glee”. Home Free and Pentatonix each won a season of NBC’s talent show, “The Sing-Off”. They (with other groups) have turned the acapella world on its head. They both do covers, and originals. Home Free does country mostly, and Pentatonix does more pop. You will find a LOT of Home Free content. They’ve been a group since 2001, when the beatboxer (Adam Rupp) and his brother Chris founded the group while they were in college. Chris started his own solo career in 2016, and was replaced by Adam Chance (aka “Chance”, since there’s another Adam in Home Free). Before the pandemic, Home Free was doing 240 live shows a year. They’ve done a LOT of international tours. And they’ve had huge success with their album sales. I’ll be taking in a concert the next time they come to the Eastern US-like NYC or Boston. Will I travel to see them? Yes! Is it worth it? Yes yes yes yes yes!

    They call themselves primarily a country acapella group, but they do covers of several pop songs and add their own country-type flair to them. As far as the voices sounding like instruments, Home Free does a cover of Can't Stop the Feeling and at one point in there, Adam Chance (who goes by Chance in the group) sounds like a guitar. Truly amazing!

    American a cappella band. There are 3 well known ones. Pentatonix, Homefree and Voiceplay. If you are not used to a cappella each band has a bass because they need him with no instruments as well as a beatboxer. They also each had an outstanding bass singer. Tim Foust, Geoff Castelluci and Avi Kaplan. You can hear 1 song with 2 of the 3 basses Tim and Avi on Homefree's cover of Ring of Fire. Pentatonix and Homefree both tour. Pentatonix does USA Europe, Asia, South America, Canada and Australia. Homefree does at least Europe besides the USA. Their fans can tell you more.

    Welcome to the new world of a capella. Home Free and Pentatonix have rewritten the book on a capella worldwide. All of the suggestions for more songs to listen to are great. For Home Free may I recommend their "Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash), and my favorite, "Helplessly Hoping" (Crosby, Stills & Nash) (and then a quarantined Italian Youth Choir's cover of Home Free's arrangement). Pentatonix has 3 Grammys, one for their "Daft Punk Medley" (Daft Punk), one for their "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (Tchaikovsky), and one for basically being Dolly Parton's backup band(?) on "Jolene". Also, try "Imagine" (John Lennon), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), "Mad World" (Tears for Fears), "Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen), and of course, any of their Christmas music.

    Home Free is a great a cappella group. They do give a country vibe to what they sing, but it's not too country (I don't think at least) when they are covering some of the pop and R&B songs. I will introduce the guys to you (left to right) so you have Rob Lundquist (in the overhauls- tenor harmony), next is Adam Chance (black vest- baritone harmony), Austin Brown (brown vest- lead tenor), Adam Rupp (white tank & suspenders- beatboxer), and Tim Foust (white button up with suspenders- bass).
    There are 2 other a cappella groups that are pretty popular the first is Pentatonix and the other is Voiceplay. I don't want to overwhelm you with songs so I just wanted to let you know about the other two groups out there. :) And the beatboxer for each group are fantastic! Thanks for the reaction!

    This one is with a looper when live and multitracked for the video. Live, the beatboxer lays down a beat, Chance does the jaw harp, and they also lay down some of the "frog" doo doots. You can see them recording each part on the looper at the beginning of the song. There is also a "harmonica" duet in the middle with the lead tenor and the beatboxer.
    You really should check out Adam Rupp's "drum solo." He's an amazing beatboxer, but every member can also do some beatboxing and vocal instumentalizations.
    If you want to really laugh... check out their "Butts Remix" or if you are ready to listen to some holiday music, check out their version of "Do You Hear What I Hear." Be prepared to pick your jaws up off the ground. 😉

(Bass goes super low) They did so many during quarantine, separately at their own homes, set up by their producer with great equipment, then he took over and put it all together,. like Moonshine, Meet in the Middle, Everybody Walkin' This Land, Gambler. Then a Boyz II Men cover, End of the Road. Awesome! A great John Denver cover, Country Roads Take Me Home. Mayday is wonderful! My Church is great! If you want fun/funny, they can do that for sure! The butts Remix, recent one for Christmas called Cold Hard Cash, written by their high tenor, Austin. They just put out one with the group Alabama, Christmas in Dixie, awesome. Well, I took up too much space here! So sorry! Take care guys. Enjoy the HF journey. We'll be here!

    They do a cover of Cover Me Up, and you'll hear a steel guitar. And for some deep, rich harmonies, I'd recommend their cover of I Can't Outrun You. For fun, try their cover of Can't Stop the Feeling. Also, their rendition of How Great Thou Art is over the top, both harmoniously and visually.
    Great reaction, guys.

    As you can see at the end of the video, Adam Chance is the group member that is making the sound of a mouth harp (aka jaw harp) which sounds a little like a didgeridoo. You can see his mouth plainly correspond with the musical sound. Adam is a bass/baritone who sings some solos and harmony, and assists in beat-boxing.

    The first time I heard the song the way I like it was in the movie "O, Brother Where Are Thou?" They do it in a way hearkens to that version.
    Note: 99% of 'their' songs are done a cappella (without instruments only voice). This is done without 'anything'. If watch BOTH Adams you will see one is doing the beatbox/harmonica, the other is doing the guttural sound. You see Adam Rupp doing the harmonica/percussion sounds, you have to watch the video closely to see Adam Chance doing the guttural (standing in the background of the main singer and in a quick closeup of his mouth). His mouth one's assuming is singing, he's doing the juice harp sound. Additionally, it's Chance doing the bass voice while Foust is doing a solo.
    First times I heard Pantonix AND Home Fries were in that talent competition show 'The Sing-Off'. They won in separate years. It's also when I learned about Voice Play (they competed against & won over). They met Voice Play (& their fabulous bass singer Geoff Castellucci) and, Pantonix especially Avi Kaplan during the show. They developed
    some lasting work relationships. Another a cappella group they competed against & won over is featured on 'The Late Late Show with James Corden' The Filharmonic. Adam Chance coincidentally competed against Home Free in another a cappella group (assume that's where they met). It's a terrible shame that show was cancelled. It brought some talented & truly gifted artists to mainstream.
    Adam & Chris Rupp (brothers) founded the group. Since their inception, there's been some changes in the line up as members jumped in/out. Consistent members competed (Austin Brown, Rob Lunquist, Adam Rupp, Chris Rupp & Tim Foust) & won. Chris left a few years after they won the competition & was replaced by Adam Chance. Adam Chance has a deeper range which helps support Tim. Adam Chance has also been solo on a few songs since joined. (A fan of Home Free is called Home Fries).
    They're deceptive in that they have tight harmonies & range. They lean to country music, but can blend R&B, country, jazz & pop into their arrangements with beatbox rhythms to change it from typical a cappella percussion sounds. If listen closely to Folsom Prison Blues (can hear not a typical drum beat, but a 'railroad train and hitching a shotgun sound'. Home Free bantered around 'years' before their big break winning that show (Fairs, Cruises, typical country music circuits etc.). They were one of the most mature, polished &
    experienced groups in the competition. It showed as they progressed through the competition. They have what they term a 'Vault' of extensive recordings/videos of songs released years prior to the competition.
    Pantonix is a fabulous group, however they have a totally different sound when comparing groups. One would think Home Free would be struggling because of their tours derailed because of the 'demic'. It seems to be bringing them a broader audience as they've been producing new videos every so many weeks (ex. 'Folsom Prisom Blues'). Which is the miracle of the internet, getting tracks laid by them doing from their individual homes & filming there to. Kinda can tell the videos each slicing in with each other no group scenes. The sound is incredibly mixed.
    When I first became interested watching the competition show, I admit I lusted over Tim Foust. He had a sexiness with his wide range of voice. It made the group a triple threat. Austin Brown their flexible tenor, Adam Rupp their versatile beat boxer (won multiple competitions) & Tim the cute, shy smile bass. Every song in the competition I enjoyed.
    There was one song they did with The Filharmonic. Cabbyshack's 'I'm All Right' I will forever remember Rob Lunquist's comedic turn as the groundhog (have to see video the video).
    There was one episode the judge's got to work with specific groups. The judge Ben Folds was talking about their angst of doing a Johnny Cash song. They were worried country music purists would rake them over the coals. He convinced them to do it their way & see it as homage. They did & quite honestly I thought it was their signature song. It was
    the best up to that date song. It was 'Ring Of Fire'. It gave Tim Foust a stand-out performance. It showed his range & the arrangement had country/reggae mix.
    I started following them on UA-cam. Like anyone there are songs I love, songs not so into but it sticks in my mind.
    Favorites (keeps updating):
    Ring of Fire, Man of Sorrow, Folsom Prison Blues, Thinking Out Loud/Let's Get It On, Sunday Best, End of The Road, Elvira, Nine To Five, Can't Find What I' m Looking for & Mayday that's just a few).
    It's true, what many warn in that need to first listen to a few songs to understand what roles (tenor/baritone/bass) are in the group, then do Mayday. I had to close my eyes the second time through to get it.
    One video that's wrongly interpreted by a few is the 'Ring of Fire' with Avi Kaplan. I call it the dueling basses. It was nice for Tim to have the deep support while singing (unfortunately Chris Rupp didn't have that depth). So it caused a slight gap to support Tim. Avi really does go to town in that low range backing him. Enjoyed tremendously, but the ending many wrongly think it's Avi that hits the low note. It's not. The video clearly shows Avi putting on a cowboy hat & not changing his mouth. One does see Tim in the background dropping his mouth & hitting the note.
    What I like is that they readily do collaborations as individuals or as a group with others. They've written songs & done arrangements for the group. I like the video of Elvira with The Oak Street Boys paying homage to the original singers. Austin did a solo with guitar accompaniment of 'Unchained Melody', or they get a music arrangement from Hollens & Geoff Castellucci. Foust does Misty Mountains with Peter Hollens or the group sings with Hollens 'Can't Find What I'm Looking for'. If Bass lover, haven't had chance listen to Castellucci's Black Bird or, High and Dry.

Oh and btw they are an a capella band so there is absolutely no instruments, it's all their voices (unless they are singing with another band, sometimes. which is a rare). The band names are...
    * Lead singer: Austin Brown
    * Tenor (Guy with big beard) : Rob Lundquist
    * Bass singer: Tim Foust
    * Guy with cowboy hat (a hat): Chris Rupp: founder if Home Free (he left the band to go solo... Chance took his place)

    * Other bass singer/baritone: Chance (his first name is Adam and his last name is Chance)

As others have said, they are primarily considered a country group, but they actually transcend that description by singing many other genres of music. You should try their gospel video, "How Great Thou Art," their cover of Crosby, Stills and Nash's "Helplessly Hoping," their cover of Vince Gill's "Go Rest High on That Mountain," their cover of John Mayer's "In the Blood," and many others. Their Butt Medley (remix) is one of my favorites of theirs. Their Folsom Prison (Johny Cash Cover) is more recent. Tim, their Bass can go as low as G1 and still go as high as a Tenor. You can hear it on the Johny Cash song Ring of Fire feat. Avi from Penatonix. The group also hooked up recently with Peter Holland to do the U2 cover “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” Any one of these are really great but the one thing that this group has... is that they always seem to have fun doing these songs.

    So you've gotten many comments from the Home Fries. I'll try to give you some more information on the group, but first, if you liked Home Free, then you also have to check out Pentatonix. Like Home Free, Pentatonix is a mostly A Capella group (meaning very little if any use of actually musical instruments). Most sound is all vocals created by the beat boxer of the group and sometimes by other members. Pentatonix is more Pop oriented where Home Free is mostly Country style. Both groups are amazing.
    My recommendation for next videos would be
    Home Free cover of Johnny Cash - "Ring of Fire" this video includes guest appearance of Avi Kaplan who use to be the bass singer for Pentatonix.
    Then do Home Free cover of John Mayer's "In The Blood"
    For Pentatonix - I would start with their cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence" after that there are so many more you could do.
    Both of these groups are American but their music transcends any boarders.
    Both Home Free and Pentatonix gained popularity by participating in and winning "The Sing Off", which was an American Idol type knock-off on NBC TV. Pentatonix in 2011 and Home Free in 2013.
    Both Pentatonix and Home Free have a large number of songs/videos including many Christmas/Holiday songs on top of their accumulated genre accomplishments.
    Current group members using this video for identification purposes:
    Austin Brown - Lead off singer - High Tenor - From Georgia, USA
    Rob Lundquist
    - 2nd lead singer - Tenor - From Minnesota, USA
    Tim Foust - Bass - Texas, USA
    Adam Rupp - Beat Boxer - Minnesota, USA
    Adam Chance (Chance) - Baritone - Florida, USA
    Adam Rupp is probably one of the best beat boxers there is.
    Even though Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix has amazing low notes, Tim Foust can match him and has proven he has an amazing vocal range, which you will hear if and when you listen to the Home Free song "Mayday".
    I'm sure there is a lot of information I missed but this comment is getting quite long so I am going to stop here.

    Home Free - They are an acappella band that strictly use their Mouth and Bodies to make the music. I say Bodies because the BeatBoxer Adam Rupp uses his hands on this video but he also claps and stomps on other videos! Adam Chance (goes by Chance) the guy that was making the Jaw Jarp sound at the beginning and end of the video has a 4+octave range and is the newest member of the group. He Replaced Adam's brother Chris Rupp who went on to a solo career. Tim Foust the Basist for the band has a 5+octave range. Rob Lundquist is the tenor and in this video is the second lead singer and then there's Austin Brown the high tenor who is the first lead singer in this video!
    They have I think 12+ Records out and over 100 music videos on their channel! (correct me if I am wrong here please).
    I suggest that you react to the following songs:
    Boy 2 Men's - End of the Road

    Home Free is tremendous. They are ‘a cappella’ meaning no instruments. The sounds are all done by their mouths. Adam Rupp the beatboxer was doing harmonica, drums, and other various noises. Adam Chance was doing the mouth harp at the beginning and end of the song. This song is based on the movie O Brother Where Art Thou with George Clooney. It’s a great rendition. The gator is real.
