But when this recording was made, do you realize that Joe Bonsall (tenor) was 67 years old...that Duane Allen (lead) was 72...William Golden (baritone Santa Claus) was 76...and Richard Sterban (bass) was 72? After all these years, the "Boys" have still got it and don't take a back seat to ANYONE!
I've read it couple of times that, even though the Oak Ridge Boys still have a number of years left, this was a "passing of the torch" so to speak. The Oak Ridge Boys even stated that they had recorded Elvira the way they wanted to all those years ago and so let Home Free have creativity discretion on the song. Only thing they asked was that a few things were kept in place. I can honestly see Home Free as the next generation's Oak Ridge Boys. They've even performed on the Grand Ole Opry twice now with an open invitation to return. From the videos of them performing at the Grand Ole Opry, the crowds loved them. I would definitely love to see them live.
@@darkestar45 they have a lot to endure, and years of creative adaptations to go through... even if they did more than covers that'd still be the case. Seasoned musicians I think celebrate when they see a new generation of talent because they know they were a part of what inspired that younger generation to rise up in love of music. I think most musicians in general are just good people once they reach a professional level.

You know this is good when my 83 year old grandpa not only listened to the whole thing, but absolutely loved it and thought it was cool. He's a big fan of the Oak Ridge Boys. Love Home Free as always❤
This is what happens when you get a bunch of talented performers together. The first thing they do is have fun. If you don't believe it just look at the smiles on their faces and it comes through in their voices. They are having way too much fun. It's like when everything just clicks - you know its right and everyone feels it. This is what makes good singers great singers. They make their voices smile. Love this group.
I never get tired of this version of this song, because no matter how many times I watch this by the time I see Rob comparing beard size, I realize I've been so engrossed in the fun and beautiful harmonies, that I've been sitting here with an unashamedly goofy grin on my face for 2 and a half minutes. 😂😅😂 ❤❤❤
I just want y’all to know that my daddy was a HUGE fan of the Oakridge Boys and I grew up hearing and loving Elvira. My daddy passed almost 7 years ago, but the minute I heard this rendition I knew he would have absolutely loved it. Please keep on doing what you do. I love Home Free and my Daddy would have too.♥️
His range is definitely impressive but I think the more impressive part is how amazing he sounds, no matter whether he sings bass, baritone or tenor. He has a beautifully balanced and pleasant tone throughout his whole range.
I can actually get as low as Tim, I was kinda surprised cause I'm no vocalist at the least n definitely no where near the smoothness like Tim. TF YOU ARE THE MAN! 👍
What a great gathering of 9 beautiful voices. Elvira is the song that would get my sister and I singing along. A fun song with no message or story, just voices that make you want to bounce!
Home Free any advice to help me start my own group. Bc I been singing since 7 and been sick for long time but I want get back using my voice god bless me with
+Daniel joshlin... I also made my own acapella group With my friends and we sound pretty damn good and we welcome any newcomers once we hear how good they are! I have a large vocal range just like Peter Hollens (Who is very awesome and if u haven't heard of him check him out!). He can go really high then down to Tim Foust's growl voice but I don't do that as often cause we already have a bass in our group only if I'm doing a harmony with him would I use my lower vocal range!. But that's pretty cool that you have a group to I bet ur pretty good!.
Ryland Mowatt I'm looking to start my own group I have a wide range of vocals myself I have bass and kind of country type voice then I get high note when motivated lol. Does your group have anything on UA-cam
RIP Joe Bonsall my good friend, teacher, and mentor or country music. I love you sir and it was a pleasure to call you my teacher and friend. Rest In Peace Joe
I discovered Home Free through Christmas. My siblings, some friends, and I form a singing group and we sing at small venues, churches, and college campuses. We always have a blast searching for Christmas songs to sing for the Christmas season, and that's how we ran into them. I still listen to a cappella Christmas music all year round. Lol
When this song first came out, my 1-year-old wouldn't calm down without this song. We'd listen to it on repeat for over an hour sometimes. I'm pretty sure my son is responsible for half the views of this video.
I'm in nostalgia heaven! Sitting in my grandma's car, digging through her shoe box of cassettes until coming across the Oak Ridge Boys and hearing this song. It was the first time I'd ever heard a bass singer and was immediately a huge fan of the Oak Ridge Boys. So to see my new favorite band do this song with my childhood favorite band... doesn't get much better!
The way the two groups share admiration for each other. Listen this is it!!!! Nobody else I want sampling, covering, redoing it. This is enough 🔥 if I wore a wig I'd snatch it after this 😭🔥❤️
This is the first time I've seen Home Free. I'm impressed. Sterban is STILL the number one bass, but....that was UNBELIEVABLE! Tim is smooth!! And I still love seeing William Lee Golden. I know the BOYS were just as impressed with you guys! It truly was an awesome arrangement.
If I am not mistaken they BOTH hit C#2 as far as I could find.. to me both are equally amazing. Tim has also hit C#1. Here are the links were I found the information: therangeplace.forummotions.com/t2506-tim-foust kekbfm.com/just-how-low-can-richard-sterban-from-the-oak-ridge-boys-sing/
C Coleman Tim's vocal range is from an A0-A4 .. if you watch their cover of SOLD Tim hits an A0 in the chorus it's fantastic! Tims vocal range is insane and most cannot match it including Richard ... the closest person is Avi Kaplan from PTX. His vocal range is E#1-C5.
C Coleman probably because they are two different genre... Avi though was going to school to become an opera singer before PTX came about if you hear him doing that or other music he may not sound flat to you.. Avi doesn't sound flat to me but Tim is older and the country voice is usually more rich sounding which is why Blake Shelton always wins on the Voice.. look at Sundance Head his voice is rich but Billy's sounds flat even though he's a pro singer... it's genre that does that to ones ear..
I saw so many comments of how it looks like the Oak Ridge Boys were having so much fun. When I used to see them live, they ALWAYS looked like they were having fun!!
Hated hearing of Joe's passing. Several years back my then 4 year old loved this song and I sent the Oakridge Boys a video of him singing Elvira and didn't think anything would come off it but they sent him the sweetest letter.
My 18277385th time watching and 3 things. 1. still have to remind myself that no, there's no drum set, just the legend that is Adam Rupp 2. still shook from Tim's earthquake mode maw maw 3. harmonization at 2:34 - 2:39 still sends shivers "up and down my spine" EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. kudos you all are truly the best♥
Lizzy S I, too, admit that I have a hard time believing that “Home Free” always sings “a cappella” ! They - absolutely - DO NOT EVER use any type of “INSTRUMENTS” - except whatever SPECIFIC “sounds” they themselves are actually able to make ! It REALLY DOES “blow my mind” whenever I attempt to realize just exactly “how” they make bass note sounds &/or the sound which matches a particular percussion instrument !
Mmmm, not a true singing note. Whispering a note isn’t singing and Richard has a much more impressive range and depth. He can sing this hipsters pants off. Well, any of the Oaks at almost 80 and 80+ can sing these hipsters’ skin tight pants off lol.
This is a great collab. I love how when Tim hits the super low note, you can see all the Oak Ridge Boys pointing down and encouraging him to hit that super low note.
I just watched this for about the 200th time and never noticed that. Had to go back and watch it again. Damn that was special. Thank you for pointing that out.
The best thing is how wholesome this all is. A young upcoming crew wants to feature the entire cast of the original song, and they are all into it. Love seeing a passing of the baton. Not the song, but from one generation to another of amazing singers that are making younger generations fall in love with a song that those "old people" in the video made a hit in their day. It brings them both together. Absolutely perfect.
Someone told me that Tim once broke an amp because his voice was so deep. I feel like that's more impressive than people who can break glass with high voices.
Having been mesmerized by the Oak Ridge Boys back in '81, this is an incredibly wonderful collaboration. It's such a wonderful tribute to the Boys, and Home Free is a fantastic a capella group!
They are amazing - they don't need any accompaniment - they provide their own! The guy who has the deep voice doesn't look like the guy you'd expect. I thought it would be the fellow with the beard in Home Free. Some of the original Oak Ridge Boys could really hold their own! So Great!
Finally got my B'Day present tonight in Cincinnati, got tickets from my daughter for us to go, got postponed twice! It was such a wonderful concert, laughed, cried , sang and danced! Great time! Thanks Home Free!
I was in fifth grade when the Oak Ridge Boys released “Elvira” and I just about wore the grooves out on the 45 because it was so great I had to listen to it over and over and over. I just stumbled upon this version of the song by Home Free with the Oak Ridge Boys and it is so wonderful I felt like I was 10 again! SO very good, and I love the interaction between the legends and Home Free in this video!
I love seeing the younger generation and older generation not just having fun but showing such a mutual respect for each others talent. Great job guys, and I love the Oak Ridge Boys!!!
Gets better every time I watch and listen, they seemed to be having a blast! Joe is in a whole new choir now, he finally found the preacher man. Prayers for the remaining family and friends, he will be missed in a special way I imagine.

Some interesting facts: I'm 41-years-old and have been a musician since I was a kid. When I was 19, I was in a community youth music program (from my small hometown on the Oregon coast), and we played at the San Diego Sports Arena for the International Lions Club Convention...for an audience of around 20,000 people. On another occasion, we opened for The Diamonds at a fairly small show. You may not recognize them by name, but I gurantee most of you have heard their music. Their biggest hits were "Little Darlin'" and "Silhouettes". Even though they were fairly old at the time (they rose to fame in the 50's), they were still incredible, and we had fun hanging out with them after the show. Another time, we were performing at our own county fair while Tracy Byrd (the famous country singer...this was around 1999/2000, btw) was setting up for his performance that night. He heard us, and when he saw that we were a group of kids ranging in age from around 9 to 19, he went and got his entire band and crew, and brought them all over to watch our show. He then told our director if we ever needed anything..."let him know". We never asked him for anything, of course...but it felt good. I actually had tickets to attend his show that night with my family...but I passed it up to hang out with a friend who was moving out of state the next day...and he stood me up. Had I gone...that would have been one of two live shows I've ever attended (as an audience member, anyway). The only famous band I've ever seen perform live: The Oakridge Boys. And they were great. I only went because it was a family thing. I wasn't really in to country at the time...but it was an incredible show. That was around 20ish years ago, and to this day, I haven't seen any other live artists...unless you count The Smothers Brothers ...who are incredible...but their show is more comedy and variety act than a musical one (I saw them live in Laughlin, Nevada about 15 years ago...just a day before Don Laughlin himself called me in my hotel room to offer me a job at his casino after I drew a portrait of him). I was staying at his casino/hotel, and he actually lived in a penthouse at the top of the building...so I took the portrait to the front desk with a note, and asked them if they could see that he received it...and they did. I've always had an interest in business, and respected the hell out of what he'd accomplished, and was inspired by it. Being an arttist, I chose to thank him by drawing his portrait, with a note telling him what I just said here. He was apparently flattered by it and impressed by the portrait, so he called me to thank me, and just to chat a little, I guess? I was sort-of in shock at the time. When he found out I was actually homeless and lacking employment, he offered me a job in one of his restaurants. Then 2 days later banned me from his casino forever (long story...but just know I didn't actually do anything wrong. It was a misunderstanding, mostly due to him being overly-cautious as a result of being such a big public figure. I mean...he was not only the InSaNeLy wealthy owner of a casino or three, but he literally built the city his main casino was located in, which is why it bears his name. He was also kind-of a snobby jerk, from what I heard. I never got the chance to find out for myself. He seemed okay when I spoke to him on the phone...but that was one brief conversation.).
(7/10/24) I’ve already heard this rendition and seen this music video, and loved both. But today is obviously a day to revisit them. I have to admit to not knowing all that much about the gentleman who passed, other than in this video his high voice is so solid and strong. So I can only say how good it was that Home Free brought that much to many new ears.
I love all the interactions between the two groups. It is fun to see that combination of competition, envy, admiration and cooperation, as they watch their peers in the other group. And no, your beard will probably ever be that long Rob.
Two of the best bands coming together, sounds so awesome I can’t get over the beat and rhythm produced by Adam, he is amazing. They all are. If you don't believe it just look at the smiles on their faces and it comes through in their voices. They are having way too much fun. It's like when everything just clicks - you know its right and everyone feels it. This is what makes good singers great singers. They make their voices smile. Love this group.
It comes down to one thing; All Talent and NO Ego. It shines through their voices and smiles.
That cant lip sync for shit
i hope you know they recorded this beforehand are lipsyncing here
When I saw this listed I just knew they had fun doing this video even before I watched it.
$$$
I never get tired of this version of this song, because no matter how many times I watch this by the time I see Rob comparing beard size, I realize I've been so engrossed in the fun and beautiful harmonies, that I've been sitting here with an unashamedly goofy grin on my face for 2 and a half minutes. 😂😅😂 ❤❤❤
Hello Zanlee kain, how are you doing??
STILL LISTENING TO THIS BANGER IN 2024 🤩😍😍😍
And loving it
Yes
🎉
Yup ❤
They're amazing ❤❤
I just want y’all to know that my daddy was a HUGE fan of the Oakridge Boys and I grew up hearing and loving Elvira. My daddy passed almost 7 years ago, but the minute I heard this rendition I knew he would have absolutely loved it. Please keep on doing what you do. I love Home Free and my Daddy would have too.♥️
My Dad loved them too. He passed Aug 10, 2016 & he'd loved this
Tim's range ❤❤❤
His range is definitely impressive but I think the more impressive part is how amazing he sounds, no matter whether he sings bass, baritone or tenor. He has a beautifully balanced and pleasant tone throughout his whole range.
@@Husitka I agree! Saw them in concert, was best concert ever!
I can actually get as low as Tim, I was kinda surprised cause I'm no vocalist at the least n definitely no where near the smoothness like Tim. TF YOU ARE THE MAN! 👍
It's disgusting. In the most beautiful way.
Rest in peace, Joe. Your beautiful voice may have been silenced, but I'm thankful we still have countless videos/recordings. Rest in heaven, sir.
He will never be silenced as long as we have UA-cam
My GOD that harmony at 2:35 sends shivers down my spine!
Y.
Do you think you can make out who sings which part at 2:39?
Martin Eriksen everyone does
me to
And don't miss the bass slide at that moment! Insane!
All I can say is "WOW!!!!!" That must have REALLY been a thrill for the boys of Home Free to work with the Country/Gospel legends The Oak Ridge Boys.
I love it when acapella groups include the original singers / groups!
Love this. Adam is great. Dont know how he does what he does but he is awsome.
Love the scene where the Oak Ridge Boys are signing Austin T-shirt, Austin has the look on his face like he's a kid in a candy store.
He is...sheeer heavens delight...
I love how Tim just smiles after he hits that
:-)
First song I heard was my church which was shared on fb looked them up on u tube and can't stop listing to them,
mike mckenzie NJ ni ki ki
Home Free I know it's an old post. but damn y'all rumble my whole apartment building through my floor speakers. My poor neighbors.
Yeah, he looks sheepishly at Richard like he dodged a bullet... Got that one - barely....
I absolutely love both groups. Together they are a phenom !!
Yes they are a great group of talented individuals, I love listening to their music on my free time.
What a great gathering of 9 beautiful voices. Elvira is the song that would get my sister and I singing along. A fun song with no message or story, just voices that make you want to bounce!
They're having a great time and it's infectious. Just makes you feel good
Y'all are gonna be passed on my page, y'all have great voices but keep it country....
Richard: "I'm gonna go low on this last one"
Tim: "Hold my beer"
yasssssssssss!
True
@Niranjan Rajesh sometimes
Learn about the voice notes.
@Niranjan Rajesh that comes with age
That beat-boxing is just insane...
Thank you
Clint Hobson Watch his 'Adam Rupp 'Drum' Solo- Fargo2016"- insane!! :)
Godspeed Joe Bonsall. Another wonderful piece of my childhood has passed on. Thank you for the fantastic memories!
The best part about this is that you know they're having fun! Greatest part of watching someone perform
I can't stop listening to this. They play this version at work all the time @ Bass Pro Shops. :-)
Oh awesome!
The dude who does the mouth percussion is truly amazing!!!!!
Adam Rupp is considered one of the best in the business. Their live version of "9 to 5" gives him a great beatbox solo.
Wonder if he doesn't do the MOUTH percussions in his sleep? He's fabulous! I bet his Moma had a time.
Adam Rupp is genius
@@barbaracampbell9907 Hello 👏 Barbara campbell how are you doing today?
Hello 👏 Jill robertson how are you doing today?
RIP Joe Bonsall my good friend, teacher, and mentor or country music.
I love you sir and it was a pleasure to call you my teacher and friend.
Rest In Peace Joe
Wow, I'm more a rock and roll kind of guy than a country guy, but this is spectacular. I could listen to you guys all night and not get tired of it.
welcome to the club,lol
I have not stopped listening since I found them
I discovered Home Free through Christmas. My siblings, some friends, and I form a singing group and we sing at small venues, churches, and college campuses. We always have a blast searching for Christmas songs to sing for the Christmas season, and that's how we ran into them. I still listen to a cappella Christmas music all year round. Lol
Nice I have always loved cappella music but home free really hit a nerve for me I am a country girl born and raised
prolly cuz it aint country... country blows
New Pentatonix, Peter Hollens, and Home Free videos all in the same day??? This is shaping up to be a great day!!
I was just thinking the same thing. Great stuff to wake up to for my birthday. :)
yeees i was thinking the same! meybe they wanted to kill me by their perfection... i don't know but I'm so happy for that
+Kendra Gramley happy birthday! ^^
+Bibiána Fillnerová thank you so much! :)
Cloe Brown Glad ya stopped by to watch ours, too :-)
When this song first came out, my 1-year-old wouldn't calm down without this song. We'd listen to it on repeat for over an hour sometimes. I'm pretty sure my son is responsible for half the views of this video.
Ya gotta a runnin' bet then. Me or your Son, He's young so he may edge me out LoL
RIP Joe Bonsall. Thank you for sharing your talents with the HF guys and the rest of us.
Just so you know Richard Sterban, the bass in the Oak Ridge Boys used to sing with Elvis Presley.
Two awesome groups, one awesome song. Anyone else love Robs vibe. Love the faces he makes. He truly loves what he his doing in every moment.
There's SO much vocal talent in this song ♡
Hello 👏 Emmy how are you doing today?
It's quite a humbling experience to listen to this much talent honestly
There's so much to love about Elvira!
Here are the links were I found the information:
therangeplace.forummotions.com/t2506-tim-foust
kekbfm.com/just-how-low-can-richard-sterban-from-the-oak-ridge-boys-sing/
C Coleman Tim's vocal range is from an A0-A4 .. if you watch their cover of SOLD Tim hits an A0 in the chorus it's fantastic! Tims vocal range is insane and most cannot match it including Richard ... the closest person is Avi Kaplan from PTX. His vocal range is E#1-C5.
avi sounds flat to me. Tim just sounds richer and fuller.
Le'Vin Moser n
I saw so many comments of how it looks like the Oak Ridge Boys were having so much fun. When I used to see them live, they ALWAYS looked like they were having fun!!
Yes I have been to many Oaks concerts over the years and the Boys and the Mighty Oaks band always have fun!!
Your harmonies are nearly a religious experience. They fill me with goosebumps...and literally make my eyes tear.....ALL AMAZING reactions.
Thanks so much!
Craig Mitchell i
Hated hearing of Joe's passing. Several years back my then 4 year old loved this song and I sent the Oakridge Boys a video of him singing Elvira and didn't think anything would come off it but they sent him the sweetest letter.
When that bass goes to a whisper my heart near stops. Every. Single. Time. ❤
My 18277385th time watching and 3 things.
1. still have to remind myself that no, there's no drum set, just the legend that is Adam Rupp
2. still shook from Tim's earthquake mode maw maw
3. harmonization at 2:34 - 2:39 still sends shivers "up and down my spine"
EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. kudos you all are truly the best♥
Adam is so fantastic and Tim shook my seat in the balcony! Wow! Loved this concert!
Makes my house shake
Lizzy S I, too, admit that I have a hard time believing that “Home Free” always sings “a cappella” ! They - absolutely - DO NOT EVER use any type of “INSTRUMENTS” - except whatever SPECIFIC “sounds” they themselves are actually able to make ! It REALLY DOES “blow my mind” whenever I attempt to realize just exactly “how” they make bass note sounds &/or the sound which matches a particular percussion instrument !
Omgosh! Right???
I love seeing an original artist encouraging new renditions of their work.
The Oak Ridge Boys... Totally Awesome!
Rest in peace Joe Bonsall, we'll never forget you or your talent.
My 5 year old can't get enough of this song. Daddy I wanna hear the giddy up song. 😃
Sigh....and another generation is born......😁
Home Free captures all ages 🥰
Tim, I still love that little smile you used to give when really gittin' down there. Richard, I swoon hearing you, too.
I don't think I've heard anyone sing an E that low... That was absolutely amazing.
I loved this song since growing up in the 80s but Oak Ridge Boy and Home Free together made this song even better.
Someone told me that Tim once broke an amp
because his voice was so deep. I feel like that's more impressive than people who can break glass with high voices.
there's actually a video of it online
@@mxda96 where do we find this video cause I'd love to see that, that's so impressive
I wouldn't doubt it
Definitely so
@@mormaciain9005 ua-cam.com/video/55SgfvoPoxc/v-deo.html Sorry forgot to respond :)
So Great!
tim has a beard
@@franzliszt4545 I'll remember that; that's my son's name! Thanks!
Finally got my B'Day present tonight in Cincinnati, got tickets from my daughter for us to go, got postponed twice! It was such a wonderful concert, laughed, cried , sang and danced! Great time! Thanks Home Free!
Hello how're you doing today?
@DavidSmith-nk2rc Doing fine!
@@collinsfrancis9743 I am doing good!
1:28 Austin, i love you
When he comes in, Joe Bonsall looks at him like "Where the hell did that come from?"
Adam just keeps getting better and better!!
Thanks for Geoff Castellucci from Voiceplay. such a genius arrangement
My absolute favorite part is at the end when they sing “on fi-i-i YEEEERRRRRRRRRR” and their voices sound SO AMAZING
When that tenor started, the other guy stood up like “omg !!” 😂😂
My favorite part!!!😍😂🤣
Those runs thoooooo
That is Joe Bonsal.
2:16からの低い声の最期の時みんな手を合わせてるの好き!
I don't know who it looks like enjoyed making this video more, Home free or the Oak Ridge Boys. Another great job.
PWPhoto Nothing compares to the original.
Carlos Sanchez de la Cruz Rodriguez Martinez Lopez I don’t know...this is pretty close....
Gets better every time I watch and listen, they seemed to be having a blast! Joe is in a whole new choir now, he finally found the preacher man. Prayers for the remaining family and friends, he will be missed in a special way I imagine.
My hearts on fire for these voices 🔥🔥🔥
Who still rocking 2019🌻🔥
As long as I am alive will love this!

Kay Nolte I will always come back to this song. It is my favorite. Plus the both bands
Hello Tim. How are you doing?
@@collinsfrancis9743 not bad. U?
My daughter who's 1 can spot these guys the second she hears a song. She loves Mr. Adorable (Austin) and Frosty (Tim)
I love 'em too!
your comment just made my day, God bless your daughter
They are awesome.
These guys sing so well together that it's almost like one big group. Love both bands, praise His name.
Hello pretty ❤
I love how they're all so happy and proud with their counterparts, and then there's Adam being awesome enough for two people
(7/10/24) I’ve already heard this rendition and seen this music video, and loved both. But today is obviously a day to revisit them. I have to admit to not knowing all that much about the gentleman who passed, other than in this video his high voice is so solid and strong. So I can only say how good it was that Home Free brought that much to many new ears.
A collaboration between a legend and a legend in the making. What could be better?
My grandad loved this song, he died last year & today is his birthday. Reminds me of him. He’d be singing along from up there.
But I have to say that Austin is my favorite and sad that he is leaving. But I can fully understand. God Bless him and all of you. Also kudos to the ORB..love them immensely, always have.
100 yrs ago (seems like) my 5 sons used to sing this and others by Oak Ridge Boys! (They were 4 to 15). Soooooo fun to see this! Home Free are only group I listen to these days. (Age 77). Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! This was soooo GREAT!!!!
Hello 👏 Susan Porter how are you doing today?
A classic made even better! An awesome collaboration with an amazing range of vocals from all. Couldn’t have found a better pairing. I’m sure all involved are extremely proud of this tune. Downloaded from ITunes as soon as I heard it for the first time. Thank you for it!
the one with the deep voice has officially stole my heart!
Makayla Ping more specifically please, there’s two bass singers here
the first concert I ever saw was The Oakridge Boys and TG Shepherd. This was an awsome song with Home Free and Oakridge Boys.
