A judge giving a grown man a time out is hilarious 😂
There are a lot of grown people that need a time-out. I wish we could give them all one.
I wonder if they have a "special" chair or use a bottom step ? LOL.
I disagree.
(a) It's unlawful to deny litigants an opportunity to be present in proceedings unless their behaviou is extreme. Judges should first and foremost follow the law
(b) the judge was the most out of control person in the courtroom, raising his voice, repeatedly demeaning the litigant with sarcasm. Nobody, not even a judge, should get to be that unprofessional in their workplace. If anyone needed a timeout it was the judge.
@@shaya_g but he did in the end, be a good judge
Yeah. I mean, if that man was going to act like an entitled child, then Judge Simpson would treat him as such.
He owes the judge a HUGE thank you. Loved how the judge kicked him out of his courtroom. Welcome to adulthood where we pay rent and mortgages every month. These aren’t optional. You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. It’s not that he couldn’t pay the rent, he was choosing not to pay it and using the money on other things.
You are RIGHT.
Yea no.. if the place you aren't renting isn't up to code, and the company or landlord refuses to fix it, you can definitely put your rent money into an escrow account until the problem is fixed. It's actually done quite often. This guy messed up though cause he was still spending the money
@@chrisortiz8077Escrow yes but he'd still loose this case anyway. Been up to Code whole time, all other things trivial and wouldnt let them in to fix. The supposed mold, hes still staying there, been there 4-5 months and he has no issues now willing to pay all future rent and back rent to catch up. He was hoping stay free not letting them in to fix items
A lot of ppl do break things then say they don’t come landlord need to wear camera and have proof take pictures of the home before and after
He should have saved the money instead of spending it.
The guy wants FREE RENT. That’s what this is all about.
exactly !!!
Yup! He’s like I can start paying for the future, forget the past Lmao
Yes, that's what he wants.
Yeah but judge do this all the time it like he never thinks about the landlord kick him out he’s try it to pay rent he a man why do he do this to every landlord it get mad
Bcoz ur stupid gov covid policy.. taught millions of ppl that u can just ignore rent.
I love how Judge Simpson thinks things through. He doesn't just react to facts. He figures out the "inside story".
It's actually required that they do that. If there was a judge who wasn't doing so, they wouldn't be a sitting judge for long.
@@CyanideSublime, JP or property courts at least.
To paraphrase Farmer's Insurance... He knows a thing or two because he's seen a thing or two.
@@CyanideSublimelook at cannon, she is one that needs to be removed for her stupidity and corruption with her orange overlords case.
There is no “inside story”, you bootlicking dummies. The guy paid his move in costs and moved into an unlivable residence. Period. He shouldn’t have had to pay a damned thing when they refused to fix the things, including MOLD.
He’s such an amazing judge. What a blessing he is and an incredible asset to the bench.
You simply cannot get a nicer and more understanding Judge. I love how he makes people think and reveal the real reason they are in a hole.
A dumb judge, who talks far too much and trash at that
The judge is very caring
We don't need nice judges. We need judges that put squatters in jail where they don't have to pay rent.
"I'm gonna tell you one thing" and the deputy slides into position.
Like a famous TV judge often says, “You ate the steak. Pay up.”
Love me some judge Judy
He ate more than the steak. He ate all loaded potatoes and drunk 100 shots😂
Judge Simpson: a modern day King Solomon. Weighing, measuring, calculating, and taking the human element into account.
I think we need more like him. He actually takes the time to listen & consider both sides rather than rushing through the cases
Did he also have hundreds of sex slaves like king Solomon?
Your comparisons are weird.
@@agoo7581 Hence why he said "a *_modern day_*_ King Solomon."_ Besides, a chad like Judge Simpson has no need for them.
Nah. He knows this guy is a scammer, but his hatred of landlords clouds his judgment. It's pathetic.
The place is making him sick but he doesn't want to move, just to squat. Hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣
and doesn't let the maintenance in the fix the problem lol
Not everybody can just up and move
@@spencejoy Won't have a choice with a court order
He is going to stay then he is going to take the landlord to court and win a lot of money for health issues
This young man is so lucky. I have never heard of a judge spending this much time trying to educate someone as to how they are wrong.. When he said he spent the rent money and he doesn’t have it to pay back rent I yelled “Yea” so loud I scared the dog. He finally got the truth out in the open. Again, Judge Simpson is a man who stand above most other men.
It’s like having your father explain to to how it works. Not how you think it does. Excellent time spent with the defendant.
"In 2013, the Michigan Supreme Court ordered Simpson to serve a nine-month suspension without pay for interfering in the police investigation of his intern, who was arrested for driving under the influence. The Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission (JTC) filed a formal complaint against Simpson."
He's also a crook.

Exactly. Just another worthless POS.
Well, I think he might have been able to squeak by if his potential roommate was still with him. But she said no way to the mold and went back to her family. So moving forward he is still in bad shape.
No, he is taking advantage of a bad apartment complex known to not respond or fix issues. The management is horrible and all the tenants have these problems. He is relying on that : He lives in Ypsilanti that's normal rent. You have to provide income to move in. I know because I live here. Judge Simpson is a freaking genius. The way he worked this guy, got him to calm, got rhe truth out... Man this guy is such an og!!
I have the feeling that when this judge asks you, "let me ask you a question", you have already lost.

I do this all the time because although I already know the answer to the question I'm asking I like to see the what foolery the person in question will come up with...or will they actually have some integrity for once and be honest
It's exactly what Columbo would say in his show, and at that point, you might as well give up, because he had figured out everything. 😄
@@youglowgirl2106that’s exactly how Judge Simpson works. Totally cool to watch him in action!
The problem with “Cherry Picking” only the stuff you like, is that one often misses the stuff you need.
You're very right. 🙂
Sometimes I wish Judge Simpson could order his manly-man of a bailiff to go and slap the nonsense out if some people…
Manly man 🤣🤣🤣🤣
He's mighty fine.
Officer Killmonger 😂
Judge Simson is by far the toughest S.O.B ever. To those who break the law. That being said you will not find a judge as fair as him. All he wants is the TRUTH. He will tell you how it is period. But knowing the truth can give you a chance of a fair outcome.
The deputy seems very capable. You know Judge Simpson is beloved by the court employees. I've seen him go in on people for not treating the court staff properly. That's the intangible leadership factor.
And you definitely do not want to be the attorney who walks wrong in his court.
This Judge reminds me of my parents. This is exactly like I was raised…good, common sense. You don’t spend what you ain’t got…that means putting aside bill money and saving up for the “oh sh!t” situations. This “young man” ain’t so young. He needs to grow up and stop making excuses, get himself a side-hustle DoorDash or Uber job, flip a flippin’ burger and do whatever he needs to do to get extra cash fast to pay his bills and stop being a brat.
I love how for all those months he didn't pay rent - didn't pay into that special court fund - and didn't set it aside assuming he'd need to pay it at some point.
but daddy, i wanted a new x-box.. all this rent stuff is not as important...
can i move back to my old room.. being an adult is too hard.
If you watch the previous ones he was told that he has to keep the money on hold, and he that he had to keep the funds on hold. In the one where they ordered him to let the repairmen in he was reminded the court could demand to see the account where he was holding the rent money.
@@nehpets216 I thought that was him. He just wants free rent.
I think he thought he'd get away with it, scot-free.
Most civil courts for eviction have a repository. You are generally required to pay your rent to the repository. Obviously, this guy is a grifter he just wants to live for free
In Chicago, when I had a problem with a landlord once, I was instructed to pay my rent to an organization instead of to the landlord. He just thought he had found a clever way to not pay rent, and his young friends all told him he was right. He needs to grow up!
Yep. I wholeheartedly believe he turned away the repairman because those problems didn't exist when the repairman showed up.
He did put $3k in an escrow account, which is what you’re supposed to do when withholding rent. But bc of all the late fees and legal fees he is still $2k short. I think he had legit maintenance issues and then while researching he figured he could play the system and get free rent, but it all backfired. It’s clear he can’t afford the apartment and thinks he’s smarter then most.
💯💯💯💯
He didn’t want to pay rent! He wants to live free and spend his money on himself and his “friend”. He slipped up and said “we” paid more! She didn’t want the judge to include her income! They BOTH worked over this judge together… 😂
@@Sara-xk1nsthe girlfriend and him were in it together… she just didn’t want the judge to rely on her income! They were actually pretty smart.
@@Sara-xk1nshe DIDNT PUT $ in an escrow account! That’s his 1st & last month fee when you move in ! It’s law the landlord puts it in escrow 🙄 since he’s only staying till his lease is out they are figuring out the total he needs to pay to get caught up till his last month! It’s not that complicated 😂 FFS
As a landlord (which I am) I wouldn't want him to stay after this grift. There would be no lease renewal.
That's probably not going to be a problem as he stated he only wants to be there a year. I agree though, if he wanted to stay longer I doubt if they would renew his lease.
I had issues my first year in my first apartment - I was a student, my student loans were late etc. My landlord was understanding and had no issue waiting a few months (about 3). I have been a tenant of theirs for almost 14 years now
Mao was right.
That does work if u communicate with people.
This man needs to be on the Supreme Court.
I really appreciate the kindness of this Honourable Judge!
So he doesn’t have the 5 grand to pay, but he was not paying rent because he said the unit needed repairs, so why wasn’t he saving that money every month?
🎯
I mean, if you listen to what he was saying within the first ten minutes he clearly believed that he didn't owe money to somebody who was charging for an unlivable place. I don't know if I actually disagree with him that much. It's one thing if the problems developed during his lease, but so far the way he describes it, these were existing issues which the landlord didn't take the proper precaution to discover and/or rectify before placing it back on the market. It's easy to say if you don't have the rent money to not live there, but it's just as easy to say if you don't have a unit that holds up to municipal code to not offer it on the market.
I do believe Judge Simpson is the most caring judge, even if the person is wrong. That man has empathy and sympathy. ❤❤❤
It is so nice to hear a judge really care about the outcomes.

I knew it and called it on the first one. He moved in knowing the issues and thought he could get away without paying rent. We know that because if he was withholding rent for repairs, he'd have all of that back rent but he said he doesn't. Ah ha! He finally admits he spent it, meaning he had no intentions. What is wrong with people?!?
yea he's a scammer. but he also doesn't understand that he can't stay somewhere for free
Why would he think someone with 2 take care of him.
The only sad thing about this is there’s not more judges like Judge Simpson. He takes his time to really understand the cases before him. He’s the last of a dying breed. God help us all when they’re all gone.
Most judges care about getting the right result, balancing the interests, and fully understanding the cases. Of all the judges I've practiced law in front of, in state and federal court, that is true of most of them--like at least 85%. So I'm never sure where people get the impression that judges just don't GAF and that there aren't other judges that do the same thing. Maybe from too much television and not much real-life experience in courtrooms?
He was born to be a Judge.
Judge Simpson took a lot of time to get him straightened out and headed the right way. The Judge is the Man.
I'm so seriously impressed with Judge Simpson. Watching him holding his head in his hands to express disbelief, speaks louder then words with no disrespect. Salute!
Simpson is such an endearing and straight shooting man. The kind of guy everybody would have liked to be their father.
When Judge Simpson kicked the guy out of court I was sitting here clapping.
People need to realize that the ability to _withhold rent_ doesn't mean that they don't have to pay it.
Judge Simpson is a remarkable human being. He doesn’t have to act how he does- he would probably go home faster if he made a quick ruling and was done with it- but he puts time into making sure people listen and learn.
I’m fairly certain I’m falling for judge ❤. He’s just what our world needs.
The way I almost walked out when he kicked that dude out of the court room. 😂😂
This judge is so kind and knowledgeable of people
Beautiful insight on Judge Simpsons call. Something wasn't right here and he saw through it. Didn't throw the book at this tenant. Humanizing and solution orientated court. As it should be at times.
One thing that I will say is that Judge Simpson is a fair minded man. He is a teacher and good arbiter and we saw that on display here. 👍
Thank you for a great post. 🤝
That was really something special. Judge Simpson get tough and true when he needs to, and if you respond the right way, he softens up so nicely.
Judge Simpson works so hard to help reason through the problem.
3:30 - Dude wants to stay where he's at, because he figures as long as he pushes the claim that the landlord is screwing him over, he's not obligated to pay rent! Wonder just how long he figures he can get away with this grift! Guessing both by the title of the vid, and this being Judge Simpson, it's not gonna be for much longer! ;)
It works exceedingly well in Detroit. We've had cases where 36th DC judges eat it up and allow these cases to drag on for months and months, with the tenants never paying a dime but continuing to screw with their landlords.
@@jessimckenna2904 That's just sad. And then they got the shaft during covid on top of it all, what with the ban on evictions and such. As if landlords don't have bills of their own to pay or something!
@@wallyman292 we had a case with a squatter who moved into an empty house that was set to be repaired before applying for a certificate to be used as a rental, but the owners were cash strapped from COVID. This lady moved in, claimed she got scammed by someone with a fake lease (which happens quite a bit in Detroit- we have at least three cases like that right now), and promptly filed complaints with the city inspector, because she knew exactly what she was doing. She has a documented history of doing the same thing in Ohio. The eviction was started as soon as they lifted the stay, and the judge bought into everything. The owners were given ten days to come up with money to do $30k+ in immediate repairs (furnace, water heater, electrical), only to have that lady turn around and pull the new furnace and water heater out, presumably sell them, and had some broken down ones put on their place to tell the judge the repairs were never done. The case only settled about two months ago, and ended with the client having to pay the woman $4500 to move. They had to remortgage their own house to do over $50k in court ordered repairs, and their legal fees over the course of it were nearly $30k. They ended up selling the house for about $10k.
The lady lived there rent free for over two years, destroyed what she could that wasn't already in need of repair, and got paid to leave.
36th DC judges regularly ignore the statutes. A 10-day move out date on a judgment before a Writ can be issued? Nope, minimum 30 in their courtrooms. Defendants don't show up? Default judgment? Nope. They just adjourn the hearings.
When there are less landlords in Detroit, and rents triple, it will be because 36th DC judges drove out the landlords.
@@wallyman292I can't begin to _imagine_ the amount of rent that's owed from COVID rental lockdowns! I personally know people who owned homes & rented them out for their monthly income to live & COVID ruined them. They lost the properties & their own homes because they weren't getting paid. It was tragic. Homes that had been in their families for _generations!_ just lost because they refinanced it way before 2020 & that started a monthly payment to pay it back & once 2020 hit, the tenants decided they weren't paying them anymore so they couldn't afford to pay that mortgage payment on top of their personal bills & lost the houses..
@@wallyman292its risk reward my friend. you want all the reward and no risk? Typical, sounds more like grifter thinking😂.
I like this judge. He doesn't tolerate BS, but he's still compassionate and tries for solutions that will help people. A good man.
It takes some time to schedule repairmen to come into the property to make the repairs and this tenant wouldn't allow the repairmen in to fix the repairs.
Methinks he couldn't let in the repairmen, because first of all, he was lying about those repairs, and he didn't want to lose his excuses for withholding rent.
Judge Simpson is a marvelous fellow..
One thing for sure you can say about Judge Simpson is that he will not rush through anything. Your case will be thoroughly litigated!
Judge Simpson is a great example for us all. I'm watching for somone to test the deputy. He seems ready.

"You're a bad person" hearing someone get told that to their face was very cathartic. God I wish I could say that to someone and the only response they can give is to quietly contemplate my words.
Judge Simpson didn't say that. He said "I don't think you're a bad person."
I SIMPLY LOVE JUDGE SIMSON. He gets everything eventually down to the basics, without losing any empathy for the "human condition." He had to get this fellow to break down enough to be honest and insightful about what happened, how it happened, and that it was all on HIMSELF (the young gentleman).
At the end the fellow fessed up (to himself and reality) and WAS able to (attempt a meeting of the minds/i.e. carry on with the landlords to remain where he was living. It's been a bit painful to watch, but very satisfying in the end :).

“Mold made me sick but I want to stay there and I’ll start paying rent now.” I was in property management for 35 years. I can’t count the number of times someone had “mold” after they received notice of a rent increase. Even had one guy say it made his daughter sick but he’d stay if his rent wasn’t raised. BTW we always tested if there was a mold complaint and never had a positive test.
I just have to say I love this judge, oh my lord, you have no idea what rent court has to deal with day in and day out. I went in front of him just after the pandemic and the case just before me a young lady was obviously struggling and had to evict her he had no other vehicle, and she cussed him out so much he had to take a hiatus for 15 or so minutes, that got me all worried I will be added into his anger, so when he called me I had a big smile and said I'm so sorry that happened.

As a former license 20-year realtor in the state of Georgia that specialized in saving property owners in distress from foreclosure, as well as saving tenants from illegal evictions I'm appalled at this couple.they are the renters from hell who sound like traveling gypsies. Where in the world can you live in a place of residence and not pay your rent? I'm just like judge take your tail, pack up your stuff and get out of Dodge. These moocher think that they can live somewhere for free and that's the bottom line. Since they're not paying rent they should have been able to have afforded an attorney to represent them. Obviously, they know that it would have been a waste of time and money because they would have lost. The best thing they could do in my opinion is go buy a tent and living the wilderness somewhere off the grid and see how that works out. Ugh! I'm just at the beginning of this scenario and irritated already but I'll keep watching and hoping that in the end the judge will give them a notice of eviction and to vacate the property. What nerves 😡😡😡
