  • This is part 1 of the 67 Ford Mustang coupe sheetmetal being removed in preparation for the fastback conversion. The roof is coming off as well as the quarter panels and rear wheel wells.

    I am really interested in this build. Of all the videos out there of "Coupe to Fastback" no one shows taking it all the way down to the kick panels. I have a 68 coupe that I am about to pull the trigger and convert. It had a pretty significant leak from the front roof corner that rusted away at the front roof support, the inner A pillars, and top of the piece the door hinges mount to. Everything that is rusted would be replaced with this conversion. If I weld in some sub frame connectors, would I still need the bracing?

      Brian, thank you for checking out my video! Yes, even if you have sub frame connectors there is nothing to support the dash and firewall from moving. When you take out the kick panels you take out all the support for the firewall and dash. The car in the video has subframe connectors, but I think you should always use some bracing to keep things from moving and or twisting. Additional videos on this build are coming in the next few weeks. Good luck on your build.

    Wow.. you really caught a lot of the car away.. I'm confused as to what you're going to use as measurements to put the new pieces on?.. it looks like everything is gone.. good luck.

    Is there a benefit to leaving in the drivetrain the engine and transmission?

      This build did not require the drive train to be removed. Not sure if there is a benefit but the extra weight held the body in place. It could be done without the drivetrain in place just as easy.
