Good video! After restoring several vintage Mustangs my advice to most (not all) people who dream of restoring a classic by themselves is this: Make money in YOUR chosen field and then buy the best finished car you can. And start enjoying it immediately. Then it doesn't sit in your shed while life passes you by. If I had a nickel for every amateur that had big dreams but never finished restoring their car I could buy a '67 GT500.
This takes away the fun of enjoying a car YOU built. You can’t do anything till you try. Sure, it’s not for everyone and can be intimidating and also aggravating, BUT the cost to save a finished fastback is out of most peoples budget.
@@julioarenas8476 I don't. I know there are great guys out there that do, but I also know it is expensive. Over a year ago I did some research on those doing the conversions and the prices were reasonable but as the price of VIN fastbacks continued to go up and the popularity of the conversion climbed the cost to do it climbed as well. Presently my recommendation is if you are going pay to have the conversion done I would buy an actual VIN fastback and do the work from to it, the total cost will be more but the potential for gain will be higher as well. The reason is if you are going to put that high of an investment in the car you need to look at it as an investment that you need a return on. Conversions have a return but not enough to pay for all the metal work to be done by a shop.
Im a Chevy guy who appreciates the way you are going about helping others . The principals can be used with other project cars of other brands.Maybe not a conversion but the trueth bout the title issue and picking a car more complete less rust better metal and small parts the better!
So I agree with almost this entire video but one part the cowl panel part. I worked at a restoration shop for 5 years and and it’s in your best interest in your investment to replace that lower cowl panel from factory they weren’t painted the only paint that was ever put in the inner cowl to protect that metal was from the overspray shot through the cowl vents so almost all need to be replaced I would still mark that as a yellow not a deal breaker but a hell of an undertaking for the average person because there are at least 100 spot welds on that cowl but that’s my two sense this is a great video though !! I just bought a 67 coupe yesterday the body is in insanely good condition i was actually surprised it has a fresh coat of primer on it and no rust bumps or sheet metal holes honestly the only negatives i have to say is that it has a lost title and that it has an automatic transmission but what makes up for that is it runs and driving fule and brake lines are basically brand new feels like it just needs new brakes and it has a 302 in it!! Picked it up for 4 grand of the forsale group
Thank you sir. I am currently in the process of purchasing a 66. I like your video because you go into detail with what to look for. Thank you again. God Bless
Thanks for all the info , first car I ever fell in love with was a 60 something mustang, and at my job for the past year I’ve been looking at one and it’s available, I purchased your instructions, very thankful , always wanted a project car , again , thanks
Excellent advice! Just a note, in Alabama and a few other souther states, we don’t even title these old cars. It’s sold and transferred with a bill of sale and old registration.
There is no such thing as a front quarter panel... or a rear fender for that matter. Fenders in the front, quarter panels in the back. lol Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine, and you said front quarter panel like 50 times. With that out of the way....Great Video man, thank you so much for taking the time to provide all of this valuable info. Lol, so true. I've done that my whole life. Crazy thing is if there are rear quarters there should be front one's, right? But no. Thanks for the comment and view. I'll be working on the lingo.
Pastor Scott, what Church? I have to say you're very honest and you put together a very good video for a person that wants to do this conversion that doesn't know a lot about Mustangs, or how to do any work on them from the start. I lived and breathed first gen Mustangs as a young man and I still love them today. I've owned a 65 V8 4 speed convertible before all the aftermarket sheet metal was available. I had tons of fun with my 65, but the floor was a bit rusty when I bought it, and as a rusty convertible gets worse, what happens? The doors don't close well. I ended up selling it for parts because at the time, it wasn't worth saving. Then I bought a 69 Mach 1 351 4 speed car that also needed areas of the floor repaired, and yes the torque boxes as well. By this time, some aftermarket sheet metal parts were becoming available, but still not everything. So, I had a shop do the repairs to the torque boxes and floor. Yes I was young, the car was solid when got it back, but the shop pieced it together with sheet metal and rectangular steel tubing. Yeah, I thought they were going to use the new repair panels that came out, oh well, lesson learned. But along the way I had learned to MIG weld and remove panels by drilling out the spot welds and how to weld in the new ones. Eventually, I worked my way up to owning a 67 Shelby GT350 4 speed car that had some damage that I was able to repair myself. Yes, this was a long time ago (1983, or 84 before I got married). I paid $4,500 for the Shelby with a Title. I had to borrow a pickup truck and rent a car trailer to retrieve the car from PA and bring it to New England. In the end, I sold the car in 1993 or 94 for $15,000 and the interior needed to be finished but I had all the parts to get it done. Then of course, Shelby prices went through the roof and an average guy isn't able to own one. So, yeah, I'd love to have another 67/68 Fastback, but at my age, I'm not able to do the work myself, so it's more of a nice dream than a reality. I sure like watching what everyone's doing with these cars; it makes me feel young again. I have liked and subscribed to your channel and I'll be following along with your build. I have a lot to watch, but I see all the extra work you've done to your Mustang thus far, and I know it's going to be a great car when it's finished.
I love comments like this! Thank you my friend. I agree its almost therapy building things... Was that 351 in your 1969 a Cleveland? I am considering building a car that is in a junk pile right now. It's a coupe that I will convert and I thought about putting a stroker Windsor in it with Cleveland heads on it or maybe a stroker Cleveland... I'd love to have a set of those old prostock heads that Bob Glidon and others ran that had the port plates on them. It'd be a fun car with a classic top loader.
I live in Wisconsin, getting titles isnt too bad but it takes a couple months. If the car ur rebuilding is older than 20 years old n the engine is over 20 years old u can get a hobbyists rebuild title without going through inspection. Once u get the title u can switch the motor to whatever u want. U can also get abandoned car titles by taking pictures of all 4 corners n vin number n pay fees but its a longer process waiting for stuff to be mailed back n forth.
Hey Scott, your video just came across my feed I really appreciate that you took your time to share this information. I am considering doing a coupe to fastback conversion and would love to have your checklist. I did like and subscribe to your channel. Great content! Thank you! I hope this finds you well and in good spirits! Best regards-Jim
Hey Jim sorry for the slow response! We made the check list in to a book and it can be downloaded from Gumroad: coupetofastback.gumroad.com/l/vdhpb They charge $10 to host the download but it is a much better list, with way more info in it.
Here in Mo you can build a trailer and get a vin put on it from the highway patrol, I wonder if you can do the same with a reproduction crate or boxed body by showing a bill of sale for said parts but you will have to build it from scratch. Guys build fiberglass cars. And you see them with tags on them. If its all new parts there has to be a way around this thats legal.
Hey my friend, I don't do the conversions as a business but there are some businesses out there that do. My caution is, be careful... Secondly, the real savings is doing it yourself.
We updated the lists and created illustrated books out of all of them. You can download them here: app.gumroad.com/products GumRoad charges $10 for the download but it makes it simple and efficient. Moreover you’re getting a much more robust document now.
Yes sir, I gave it away as a simple list for a long time. The download is a parts guide complete with pictures, building tips and conversion info. It also has measurements for the 1967-68.
Absolutely, now in my opinion the 1969 or 70 aren't worth the conversion presently because good fastbacks are available at a price point that is reasonable enough. But the first gen 64-66 and second 67-68 are for sure worth the conversion. You're going to get a better car with new metal than a rusted fastback. The end value won't be the same as a fastback however depending on the parts you use restomods are selling for the same price as vin fastbacks.
Thanks again for these great videos. I hope you keep the series up because this is really the only good resource on this project I’ve come across. God bless!
When looking at a early Mustang to possibly buy I always take a bottle of water and poor down the cowl and look inside to see if water is pouring in....more than once its like a waterfall inside the floor.
Hey Scott! I already have a pristine 67 s-code coupe (Coo-Pay), but still hung around and watched the whole video. And, this old boy has known for years a fastback demands a lot more money then the coupe and they should already know that. Now Sir, where did you buy your fastback kit? And, did you make any videos of that build? Thanks for sharing. Cheers and blessings from Motown/Dearborn.

@@VegasRT500 I struggled to find wider, deeper wheels in a price range that I wanted to pay. These weren't exactly what I was looking for but the price was better than the custom wheels that I found. They are absolutely crazy expensive. I'm not super satisfied with the durability of the finish, I can see chips from putting the lug nuts on and off. Truth is that in California you can add at least a couple of thousand for what you describe as a $4,000 car. So this is do-able at your price target depending where you live. Once in a blue moon you'll see 1 good deal, but for the most part you dont want to buy a California Mustang for the good prices you can get because it will be a rustang or missing everything. You have to pay a bit more around here.
If I lived in California, I think I'd grab me a 16ft trailer and drive a bit east. I know you'd have some time and effort in the trip but you'd save some bucks.

Dude we understand you made a list. Thank you for making it. But spending the first 10 mins telling us you made a list is severe overkill. I had to skip thru the video just to make sure you actually started telling us something else!
Scott, this is the second of your videos I have watched. You open by saying you do not want to waste our time but it takes 4 -5 minutes of intro talking before you get down to true information. Everything you said in the first 10 minutes, you say again later in your video. I would appreciate it if you would talk less and say/show more. Do not take this personal, it is just my critique. I like your project and your effort.

Also, you couldn't be more wrong about rule #1. Yes, every state is different but there's this little thing called the "Vermont Loophole", and it's available to anyone no matter what state you live in. It's a tried and true method and there's plenty of info out there on the interweb on how to do it!
@@ScottHarness1 Hudson Solutions is partially correct. As long as the VIN is clean it's not difficult to get a transferable registration from VT(they don't title vehicles over 15 years old) that can be used to obtain a title from your home state. I've done it with several basket case motorcycles and cars with lost titles. The key is to get the VIN run by a local LE agency BEFORE you start the process. Once you know the VIN is clean, you just need proof of that and a signed bill of sale. You can then register the vehicle in VT(regardless of home state) through the mail.

I liked and subscribed and went to gumroad, are you charging for the list now? Your video said you're giving it for free.
Yes sir, I gave it away as a simple list for a long time. The download is a parts guide complete with pictures, building tips and conversion info. It also has measurements for the 1967-68.
Great video. Lots of good things to look for
Thank you. Let me know if content you’d like to see.
Will the doors interchange between the coope and fast back , same door ?
They will but used different window glass.
I just realized you are working on a 67-68. I have a 66 coup. Is it still worth the conversion? $7k for a conversion kit on cjPony.
I would like the list you have put together.
Email me ThatPastor@gmail.com
Thanks again for these great videos. I hope you keep the series up because this is really the only good resource on this project I’ve come across. God bless!
Thank you! Just sent your lists. You guys really make this fun.
What was the name of the shop in Utah that does the convrtion
Lost Socket Garage
Awesome video for those of us that just want a fastback and don't care about "originality." Liked and subscribed. Keep the great vids coming brother.
Thank you! That is exactly the point!
When looking at a early Mustang to possibly buy I always take a bottle of water and poor down the cowl and look inside to see if water is pouring in....more than once its like a waterfall inside the floor.
That is brilliant. Super idea.
What vin number can you use? How is it registered?
You’d register the car under the factory coupe VIN. So the car will still be identified as a coupe.
I need your list to build my fastback
Hey Frank, email me at ThatPastor@gmail.com and I’ll send them to you as an attachment.
I have my coupe, I'm ready to build, what do I need to purchase? Please and thank you!
Just finished a video complete parts guide to the conversion. ua-cam.com/video/iKa3bt7Srso/v-deo.html
Hey Robert here is the parts guide with tips and techniques to convert your coupe into a Fastback. coupetofastback.gumroad.com/l/fjoxw also in this same play list there are more videos and updates to this car. More to come as well.
@@ScottHarness1 Hello again Pastor Scott! Thank you very much for the link. I went to your YT home channel and browsed through all the videos! Very cool. Really appreciate your time delivering all this info! simply awesome. Thanks again. Love and blessings to you from Motown/Dearborn.
would you please send me the list.
does it make a difference if my is a 1966
I’ve made the list into a complete guide book. Many of the parts are the same name and fundamentally the conversion is the same but the part numbers are specific for the 1964-66. Here’s the link to the download: coupetofastback.gumroad.com/l/fjoxw
Hi Scott- I liked and subscribed- I see no email address for the parts list- thanks, Kevin

Great Video
I Have a solid 68 coupe that I am sending to Lost Socket garage. I had planed to drive the car there, would it be worth it to remove the sell able parts and take it to them on a trailer? I did not get your Email, would you mind posting it
I wouldn’t, I’d just ask those guys to hold the parts for you. You could pick up those pars when you get the car. They are great guys.
Hi I’m subscribed to your channel I’m from Chile and I am starting a project with a Mustang 67 coupe I’m already do all the world systems and I want to do the modification to fastback can you please send me that list.?
Hey Claudio, great to hear from you! If you’ll email me, I can get that list to you. Thank you!
Great information. Thank you. God bless.
Glad it was helpful!
I like the video, please send the check list
It's in the description for $10. I'm getting it for my future project.
thanks pastor
Thank you!
Hi, what would you sell me a 65-66 coupe to fastback roller? and do you use the dynacorn conversion and metal?
Hey Simon, the only builds I have done are for me personally. I do have a 1965 coupe that is the perfect candidate for the conversion.
@@ScottHarness1 so how much to do that?
God, Family, Snakes, and Stangs are my favorite things!
Heck yeah!
I was looking for the email to send you mine for the free list.
Hey Craig; I have updated the parts list to a comprehensive guide book complete with illustrations it is a $10 download and can be found here: coupetofastback.gumroad.com/l/fjoxw?_ga=2.90709274.1490805738.1672684187-602377029.1672684187&_gl=1*astpeh*_ga*NjAyMzc3MDI5LjE2NzI2ODQxODc.*_ga_6LJN6D94N6*MTY3MjY4NDIxNi4xLjAuMTY3MjY4NDIxNi4wLjAuMA..
Hey what brand of chrome wheels do you have on the back of your fastback?
Rocket Wheels 18X12, tires are 305 30r 18
@@ScottHarness1 Awesome and thanks! Are you satisfied with them and would buy that brand again?
@@VegasRT500 I struggled to find wider, deeper wheels in a price range that I wanted to pay. These weren't exactly what I was looking for but the price was better than the custom wheels that I found. They are absolutely crazy expensive. I'm not super satisfied with the durability of the finish, I can see chips from putting the lug nuts on and off. I'm afraid that the more expensive wheels aren't much better. Back in the day Centerline wheels and the like were tough but these new wheels aren't that.
I need this list please
I just found your channel
The list is now a book, you can download it here: coupetofastback.gumroad.com/l/ihntlv Gumroad manages the downloads it cost $10 but it is a much larger and better document than at the first.
Glad you did!
Does this also apply to 65 or 66
It absolutely does. I am considering converting a 1965 coup I have, I'm about 75% sure I am going to convert it and show you guys some hacks how to do it as well.
Can I just buy it from you at a good deal at this stage?
I may do that in the future only one car or so a year…
Can I get the list
The coupe check list is now available on Gumroad: coupetofastback.gumroad.com/l/ihntlv?_ga=2.10404533.1402160361.1673881598-2023742695.1673881598&_gl=1*10eb8o2*_ga*MjAyMzc0MjY5NS4xNjczODgxNTk4*_ga_6LJN6D94N6*MTY3Mzg4MTY0Mi4xLjEuMTY3Mzg4MTg5My4wLjAuMA..
Hey man can I get the list
You can get it here: coupetofastback.gumroad.com/l/fjoxw
YOU'RE AWESOME!!! Perfect explinations. Perfect feedback. whole thing is extremely well thought out!
Also, where can I get this list?
Glad it was helpful!
Sorry I was late getting this back! coupetofastback.gumroad.com/l/ihntlv
I have a hack for getting you a title easily.😊
Hey Scott, liked the video and subscribed. I don't see your email so i can get the pdf from you though.
Hey Ryan, a while back I converted the list into a full guide book. It’s $10 and you can download it here: coupetofastback.gumroad.com/l/ihntlv?_gl=1*z9sfs4*_ga*MTA5MjczNDQ4My4xNjk0MjYxMTg3*_ga_6LJN6D94N6*MTY5NDI2MTE5NC4xLjEuMTY5NDI2MTIwNi4wLjAuMA..
You have some for sale?
I have a car that I’m going to covert after the summer, it will be for-sale unless it pre sells…
I live in Alabama and they will not issue a title on a car over 30 years old. The only requirement is a bill of sale.
I have heard that, I will be working to get a 1967 Mustang titled or whatever soon so I will be doing a video on how the do it here in Arkansas. Hope it's like Alabama...
Can you send me the list so l can get started
Here is where the lists are kept now. They are no longer lists but guide books with lots of info and pics in them: coupetofastback.gumroad.com/l/ihntlv
Great
That look like a 66 mustang on the thumb nail I thought that is what you were doing
the brake down on what to look for in a coupe to covert are basically the same for all year models.
Where is the email? I want this color coded set of instructions. Whoot!!

Dude we understand you made a list. Thank you for making it. But spending the first 10 mins telling us you made a list is severe overkill. I had to skip thru the video just to make sure you actually started telling us something else!
Thanks for the input. Lol.
Thanks Jim.
Thank you for making these, I sent you an email!
Just got your email, and sent those lists to you. Love the project you have planned!
Where did you find the eMail address?
All mustang cowls have rust, ime. I wouldnt redline a car for just that. Its not that hard to replace.
It’s a big undertaking. But not all have rust…
Why did you say the list was free and the link is $10? Kind of misleading....
The video is a year old… if $10 is a stretch for ya I’d not tackle the conversion for sure.
@@ScottHarness1 no need to be rude there bud...I can literally find a million detailed blog posts and videos for free with a quick Google search lmao. I can see why you have so little subs, not very personable....
Lol. Good luck.
What's a southern boy doing up north? OH....my bad. We both live in beautiful Arkansas. Sorry.
Now that’s cool!!!
Can I go 67 coupe to 69 fastback?
No, you really need to stay in the generation of mustang you are working. First gen 64-66, second gen 67-68, third gen 69-70, fourth 71-73...
@@ScottHarness1 - Thanks

Ha!!! Yeah I was moving stuff around and forgot that it was there!!!! You must be a Matthews or Hoyt guy? 😜

@@ScottHarness1 I've done this with my 66 coupe. Have plates from VT in my hand! It works.
@@CzechSixTv this is huge!!!! I’m about to embark on registering the Lazarus Mustang. This is great info.
@@FlorecentTurtle this is some seriously good news!
I read my reply to your comment and it was condescending and arrogant. I’m sorry about that. Not sure why I replied like that. I deleted it. Thank you for the comment and info. I’m about to start in this method! Thank you!
Anything government related doesn’t work😂😂
Oh my gosh isn't that the truth.
so list is not free, cost 10 bucks, thanks anyway
Yeah if $10 is a stumbling block I'd recommend not doing this at all. You can't buy the welding wire for one fender for $10.
I think u have a different idea of what wasted time is, halfway thru the video and no information at all.
Oh man. I’m so sorry. Hope you find what your looking for somewhere else. Anywhere else.
Praise the Lord, drive a Ford. And watch out for commies and freaks.
Yo much yap about your list. I had to stop watching.
Try Teletubbies they don’t talk at all. I think you’ll like it.
First 10 minutes is all about 6X the list and how your project can be a never finished project, sorry to wordy and takes too long to get to the meat of the project. I'm gone.
Here’s the list: coupetofastback.gumroad.com/l/ihntlv?layout=profile
I don't see your email in the description.
Yeah sorry a few months after making these videos I converted the list into a book and made it a download, a company called GumRoad manages the book download for $10. Let me know which list your wanting and I can send you the link.
