Thank you, thank you, thank you Janet for putting this video on UA-cam - I can now refer to it when I'm feeling confident enough to tackle this technique. Thank you again, I love your teaching videos!
Am looking for a chippy lol for a headboard that we made from Two old 6 panel doors from an old 1910 farmhouse we had to demo. This looks perfect! I’ll watch several times before trying. I’m definitely subscribing to your channel! Thanks. Oh and my daughter and her husband just moved to Warrenton VA! Beautiful area.
Wow! Love this!! Thank you so much for inspirering, and instructing how to do it!! Would love to get some of my friends together and all do it together!
¡Hola Maria! Janet xx
So glad you enjoyed the video Vicky and I mention your local stockist only because if there something you might be having a problem with or maybe I didn't explain properly they'll be happy to help you! Happy painting!
love the look, texturizing with layering but would also like the chipped off paint look, where large chunks of paint are missing, as opposed to sandpapered scratchy or patchy look. I know there's a technique to get paint to flake or chip off, but i don't know what it is.
Thank you for watching my video. I am working on a little side table right now and getting that chippy look that you are asking about. I am laying the paint on very thick in certain spots where I want to chip it later. Once dry I am using a paint scraper and chipping off those thicker pieces and it is looking fabulous. It looks like an old chippy table. Another technique to use is once the paint is freshly dried lay down some masking tape the stickiest kind you can find, and just like waxing your legs rip the tape off the paint and it will pull up chunks of paint. Have fun
I hope you share a video!. I saw a process several years ago where a woman painted an enormous china buffet and used Hemp seed oil under each layer of paint and when each dried , chunks of paint fell off on their own. Ive never tried it.
Would using like the chunky salt give the same/better results?? I can't remember the name of the salt lol I'm drawing a blank but I love layering with the chunky salt and scraping
I want to do my kitchen island like this, do I need to apply anything over it when it's finished so that it's easier to clean and would hold up? Also would you not advise it because it's too big. I want the rustic, farm house primitive look as a center piece for my kitchen. Any advice would be helpful. Using this paint is it really expensive?
i must be doing something wrong first layer as Barcelona then provence and wood chips on that fresh paint after it dry i paint it again with provence and when it dry again when i scrape of the wood chips it didnt reveal the barcelona orange it just created that.bumpy surface all.in Provence color what I'm doing wrong?
Hello....First, thank you for watching my little video. Going by what you have told me, it sounds like you did not scrape deep enough. Keep scraping until you see some of the Barcelona color. Are you using a good sharp paint scraper? Don't be afraid to scrape. Janet xx
Janet Metzger yes it is sharp. Quick question I use very fine saw dust maybe that's the problem should I be using bigger saw dust particles or smaller?
@@Jess-gf4os... the only hesitation I have is how you will be cleaning the piece in a kitchen. The texture will make it more difficult to clean kitchen grease and such.
Bev T ... Hey Beth, thanks so much for commenting and visiting my channel. Yes it is a messy technique, but believe it or not I did do a dresser and it turned out beautifully. I just added the sawdust here and there where it would naturally get a crusty old look. You just have to be prepared to vacuum up excess sawdust. But the final patina was worth it😉
This is beautiful and so cheap technique! Much better than popular "saltwash". Thank you for video! 🥰
So glad you found it useful. Be well….Janet x

I'm not talking about saltwash but I do love that too lol kosher coarse that's what I'm talking about
Can I use this method on a resin statue?
I see no reason why not! Have fun. Janet xx

Hi Jessica...just go easier on the saw dust on larger pieces.

I still think you need to scrape down deeper to the Orange.
@@linkintiger Sorry I didn’t see this comment, yes your sawdust needs to be chunky and not very fine
After the dark wax what would you put to protect it so it don't chip off more? I'm wanting to do this to my kitchen island
Wax is your protection....trust me, it will not continue to chip. Thanks for watching.
Janet xx
You think it would be a bad idea to do my island that way? I want it to look old.
Thank you so much for your quick response.

🤣🤣 don’t waste that kosher salt, it’s expensive and lately very hard to find in the supermarkets🤣
Video too small to see well.
This technique is ridiculous!
