Great, great reaction! My alltime favorite song from Deep Purple. You should react to "Rat Bat Blue" from the Album "Who Do We Think We Are (1973)" and be ready for Jon Lord!!!

Beginning is amazing Jon Lord on the organ, but when Ritchie kicks in with his axe, joined by Ian on the kit, and my man Roger on bass it's an amazing ride front to back. Harri my Dad reacted the exact same way back in '72. His reaction was "What in God's Green Earth did you just do to me Son!" It must be shocking coming off your Four Seasons reaction to this whirlwind of pure eargasmic delight...lol. I knew you would appreciate this one, and not just because of the harmonica lol. This has always been my favorite of several great Purple songs, such a display of musicianship for a simple straight-ahead bluesy rock song. Keyboards, guitar, and drums all excel, played with a visceral quality but with such precision and feeling and momentum that you just don't find very often.
Deep Purple is what happens when you take 5 exceptional musicians and put them in the same band. Even though there were internal troubles with the group, they made some of the best music to come out of the 70's. Jon Lord on keys is a phenomenon. Watching him live is amazing.
For the past 50 years, this song has been my number one song when I want to get down to some real rock 'n roll! So very glad you finally gave it a listen, Harri!!!
What a brilliant reaction mate! Welcome to the Church of Purple Harri! We're multinational, inter-denominational and still worship the superb musicianship of the band that continues to record and play to this day! You'll have a lot of back catalogue to get through though! :-D
One of my favourite songs ever. On keys, Mr Jon Lord, the wizzard of keyboards. RIP No need to say they all are top musicians. Pls, react to the singer Ian Gillan singing Getsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar. It's a masterpiece
So many great Deep Purple tracks . Jon Lord was the keyboard player , I think he was Royal College of Arts trained ? He wrote a whole album where Deep Purple played with an orchestra a mix of classical and rock music . When I was young we used to adore this music and first saw the band live in 1973 , we had a lot of great bands at that time Led Zep , Sabbath , Jethro Tull , Budgie , Be Bop De luxe .Purple could go from Soft Rock to Hard Rock , anyone’s Daughter and when a blind man cries examples of the soft side to Speed King on the hard side . You can NEVER go wrong with DP. And they just released their 22nd studio album last year. 53 years and still doing it. Sadly keyboardist Jon Lord passed about a decade ago, and lead guitarist Blackmore left the band in the early 90's, but their replacements are great, if not quite as spectacular. Every song is special.
A classic song that hasn't lost it's soul. A real treat to listen to what a rock-n-roll organ can do at full throttle. A necessary part of rock history. Traveling down the road is built into this songs soul. Great choice for reacting.
Great band Harri. Glad you reacted to them. Space Truckin off this same album it great also. Flight of the Rat is a good one also off the Deep Purple in Rock album. Jon Lord is one of the best rock keyboard players there ever was. Lazy live in Copenhagen Denmark is a good one also. 1972.

Great reaction Harri to a great song. This is such an awesome album, the only one better is Made in Japan. This lineup of Deep Purple is my favorite...Ian Gillian-vocals, Roger Glover-bass, Ian Paice-drums and Ritchie Blackmore-guitar. Please, please treat yourself to the live version video from Made in Japan.
Love your reaction to this. My older brother introduced me to Deep Purple in the mid 70's and "Lazy" has always been my favorite jam from them. Machine Head is such a great album that I feel ALL of the tracks should have been #1. This CD is in my number 1 slot in my truck!
Well you know as well as I do, Machine Head album has one request after another to chose from. I believe Space Truckin' would get the same effect from our man Harri. You must be a dude who appreciates deep cuts because this track is not what the average Deep Purple fan goes to as the favorite. It gets buried under "Smoke on the Water" which got the radio play, and this masterpiece never hit the air waves even to this day on the FM dial. And that's a shame because of the overplayed "Smoke on the Water" tends to turn people away thinking that this is all they got. Lazy still remains my favorite track, and Machine Head was there finest work.
@@greybeard2280 100% agree! To me, on an album full of great songs, Lazy always stood out. And i still prefer the live cut from Made in Japan, of Smoke on the Water over the studio version any day! i was born in 1968, but was also lucky to have a father that appreciated good music, we had a HUGE 8-track tape collection because there was a player on the home stereo, and in the van. One of my all-time favorites, just an amazing song. I love every single second of it. I bought this album back in 1973, just before I turned 13, after 'Smoke On The Water' was a hit. I knew nothing about Deep Purple and had never heard any of the other songs. I was blown away by the entire album. They were at their absolute peak back then. I still own the vinyl, had to buy a new copy eventually back in the 80's.
I could say the amazing Jon Lord. I can say the amazing Ritchie Blackmore. I can say the amazing Ian Gillan, I can say the Ian Paice and yes the amazing Roger Glover. There was never a more amazing band when they tried.
Saw them in Detroit on their Perfect Strangers Tour. Jon Lord is phenomenal. As well as the rest of the band. One of the loudest concerts I've been to. Being from Detroit I've heard some of the loudest concerts recorded. COBO
Excellent review dude. Knowing what was coming I paid special attention to your reactions on cue. Deep Purple was possibly the loudest band ever. People had been known to be knocked unconscious standing too close to the speakers😵 back in the early seventies. Driving music? Yeah in the early 70s I had a couple Long play Memorex cassette tapes and deep purple was on the playlist. There are driving songs and this is one of them. Right up there with "Radar Love". But it's good flying music too. I remember listening to Machine Head in 1973 when flying missions in Vietnam.
Deep Purple were great in all there transformations. My first concert was in 1972 when this album was out. Amazing. Was fortunate to see them with Coverdale and Glen Hughes when Burn came out. Quite different when seeing them with Tommy Bolin when come taste the band came out. But the original 3 members kept it together. Terri Tommy Bolin alone is worth listening to. Never got to see Deep Purple with original singer Rod Evans but he was great in Captain Beyond. Another one of my favorite concerts. Check them out sometime.
Captain Beyond is amazing. The track Sufficiently Breathless is top notch musically and lyrically. You know your stuff my man, not once, other than myself, has anyone mentioned Deep Purple and Captain Beyond in the same paragraph. It's a shame more don't know about Capt. Beyond. Keep spreading the word!
Wow, I haven't heard mention of Captain Beyond in way more than a minute! I first ran into their music when going through a high school friend's father's record collection in the mid-eighties. I was first drawn by the album art work (self titled Captain Beyond I believe) for some reason. We put it on and yeah, really liked it from start to finish...Dancing Madly Backwards especially.
Love watching your reaction..As someone who has enjoyed their music for 50+ years, remembering the impact it made on my youth... and the reaction of those of new generations who have heard and understand the music for the first time.... it shows how amazing their music really is. I will go to my grave thankful that I grew up in the greatest era of music ever compiled....it truly was the epitome' of music, expression, feeling, rhythm, etc. I was blessed to spend my youth in the 60's and 70's, when music was pure, untainted by politics, race, etc, Just pure, expressive, musical joy. Amazing time to be alive. No Rap, no hate, no politics, nothing but pure musical enjoyment. The way to enjoy Deep Purple is cranked up full volume on a good stereo system, on vinyl, blowing your mind out....for those who've heard this and been blown away.... God Bless You!
The band had many great songs, this is my favorite - the musicianship is incredible. Another great one with incredible vocals too is off the live - Made
DP Mk 2 the best heavy rock band ever. Lazy is great song on this iconic album. For me Jon Lord on keys was the difference that put DP ahead of Led Zepp. So many great DP songs in that era. On that Machine Head LP just pick any song and it is a winner. For driving and getting a ticket try Speed King and Highway Star the most famous speeding songs ever. They will knock your socks off.
I loved this song forever. It's the first song I ever heard that struck me immediately as my anthem! Really, it's the first song I heard that has funky cool organ music. This song was also done Joe Bonamassa and Jimmy Barnes. Their keyboard player is just off the charts good.
In 2012 they invited various artists to perform the songs from this album as 40th anniversary tribute. They picked Joe Bonamassa and Jimmy Barnes (from Cold Chisel) to do this song. In many ways it rocks even more but does lack the harmonica. There is even a video of the recording session.
One of the greatest Blues Jams ever. They rock hard! If you'd like to hear another great blues based jam, give a listen to Loan Me A Dime by Boz Scaggs with a bit of help from Duane Allman.
One of the greatest albums ever made......Machine Head was a masterpiece. Incredible players totally in sync with each other playing their asses off. Highway Star is unreal. Burn is another face melting experience. Deep Purple was one of the best!!
I grew up listening to all these songs on a daily basis. Deep Purple, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Grand Funk Railroad, Moody Blues, Black Sabbath, Blue Jays, ELO, etc..... So it's kind of amazing to see people hearing and reacting to these for the first time.
The band is great but also as someone who has dabbled in music the brits have probably the best mixing desks in the world. I know the Neve console was made in the UK ( what a legendary console Rupert Neve ) plus many others. Now combine that with a good sound engineer and a producer you already have recipe for a good sound. Add Deep Purple to that stew and you have something special. My 2 cents worth. Greetings from Sydney. Great reaction by the way..... It always feels good to see a reaction that was similar to my when I first heard it. Rock on dude......
5 decades of music to reach into helps the picking process...lol. I first experienced Deep Purple in '68 when Shades of Purple came out. Been a fan ever since. It's gonna be fun taking him on the Deep Purple express. As well as other great music to come!
I remember my friend, Mike, trying to play this on his guitar. He did a fair job but this is just incredible, even after all these years. Nice pick Greybeard! 🌺✌️
I've been playing over 40 years now, and you can learn it, but to get the same sound that Ritchie gets is impossible unless you're Ritchie Blackmore...lol! I knew the family would enjoy it, and more importantly our main man Harri. It was nice to see pure joy on his face, warms my heart to bring happiness. BTW did you figure out how to upgrade your membership? Did my advice help?
Unfortunately, I followed your instructions and do not see any options to make the change I want. I have only tried on my phone. Tomorrow I will see if it’s any different doing it on my laptop🤷🏻♀️. Thanks for your help. 🌺✌️
Good morning Greybeard! Update: I just accomplished my mission on my laptop👏. That makes me feel a little less ridiculous. Thanks again for your help 🌺✌️
First, sorry for my English. Jon Lord sent the sound of his Hammond through the guitar's speakers, and that's why it's such a special sound. I always prefer Deep Purple live performances. Lazy in Made In Japan is great, but if you want to see the musicians, Live In Copenhagen 1972 is great too.

A musical smorgasbord of a family. So my tastes range from Merle Haggard to Megadeth. Always looking to find something new. From obscure to melodic try anything once. Glad to grow up with the freedoms and encouragement to find the person I wanted to be. Now just an old Greybeard and loving be able to share the music that I've experienced through my lifetime. It's pretty exhilarating! Makes you feel your age when you can dig back 5 decades. Thanks for sharing Ben, sounds like we both could go for hours talking music and life. You're cool I'm my book brother!
@@greybeard2280 its a great way to grow up for sure!! Im glad we could meet on a site where we are both trying to turn another cool person on to more cool stuff. I find it to be casually noble on our part!😂
COBO
Awesome reaction. That is just what my friends and I were like when this first came out. Wow! The memories.
I teethed into heavy rock via Deep Purple. Ritchie Blackmore is the reason I have 17 guitars
Dang, I'm gonna have to buy me two more guitars.
They will knock your socks off.
one my all time fav group.
I remember the first time hearing that as a kid, cool stuff, checklist out live,
Fantastic stuff indeed!!
i grew up with deep purple's music, glad to know you love it dude 👍
I loved this song forever. It's the first song I ever heard that struck me immediately as my anthem! Really, it's the first song I heard that has funky cool organ music. This song was also done Joe Bonamassa and Jimmy Barnes. Their keyboard player is just off the charts good.
The Deep Purples are the best👍
Hush
Kentucky Woman
The best reaction to any song I've ever heard
In 2012 they invited various artists to perform the songs from this album as 40th anniversary tribute. They picked Joe Bonamassa and Jimmy Barnes (from Cold Chisel) to do this song. In many ways it rocks even more but does lack the harmonica. There is even a video of the recording session.
Made in Japan - Deep Purple - Best record ever!
Great reaction Harri
I agree. It's one of the best songs ever.
One of my preferred songs of DP, these guys are just amazing
Nice reaction brother, all the best from Australia 🇦🇺 mate
Love Deep Purple...My favorite song is Lazy.
Super Group.
Brilliant reaction to a brilliant song. Who does not rate Lazy as a work of art? Insane eh. Love it.
The whole album is nothing but vibes and grooves and excellence. Every. Last. Track. 😀
Nothing sounds like a B3 with a Leslie cabinet!!! Spread the love Harri😎🇺🇸 And in reference to Jon's touch...the keyboard is a percussion instrument😉
Quote “The music doing damage to the neighborhood”! That's what it did during my time. Original & legendary group 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Bad ass outro, gotta love it
This came out during my senior year in high school, I was ready for this after the Fireball album this was just icing on the cake.
YEAH! It ROCKS! I love this, so Bluesy, wild intro :)
Hi there 😊 this reminds me of "Ten years after " going hóme. Alvin lee on the red guitar by night in Woodstock .✌☮️
Gray beard music man knows how to pick them! Glad to see you jamming and enjoying this classic blues 💙
@@debbiechang5781 ahhh! I did the same thing when I upgraded back in October, I ended up having to do it on my laptop.
High level of talent with Deep Purple .... nothing Lazy about this song.
I went to Montreux in Switzerland all because of this album, from Australia. A pilgrimage.
72 HARRI, 72 :) 50 YEARS THIS YEAR, MMMMMM, ABSOLUTE CLASSIC GEM AND DESERVES A FULL ALBUM ( MACHINE HEAD ) LISTEN :) LOVE YOUR REACTIONS AND THAT YOU LOVE IT OF COURSE! :)
And one more thing. Listen to My Woman From Tokyo by Deep Purple. I was in Jr High when this all came out. Amazing!!
