Absolute masterwork right there dude.... great reaction man. Start diggin into their entire catalog..... many different top notch musicians played in this band over their history. My father played "Lazy" for me when I was 8 and it sent me on the right path to find the blues and hard rock that we fuckin dug growing up in the 70's and 80's. I've seen all the versions of this band live. Thanks for doin the entire album bro, mad respect .
Singer Ian Gillan killing it on the harmonica!! Respect! I play the harp too, and let me tell you, it's NOT easy to make it sound as good as he did in this song.
after Space Trucking, don't forget "When a blind Man Cries" which was recorded at the same time, but missed off the original release and added on the later releases. It's a little gem, especially live as it's now a set staple albeit 50 years later!
One of my favorite Deep Purple songs. And to add what others have said about Jon Lord on the Hammond organ, not only was he extremely gifted and a total badass, he also often played through a Marshall stack, which you would normally associate with some very very loud rock guitar playing, laugh. And he often plays unison lines with the guitar and bass and so forth. So unless you know what to listen for, he does such a good job of blending in you often don't even know what's completely creating that total sound. But anyway, I love when he gets a chance to show off. I have played that kind of organ before and I tell you what, it is extremely difficult at first. You can be the best piano player in the world and sit down at this and you will suck until you spend quite a bit of time learning how to tame this wild beast.
I have a feeling you will listen to this again on your own and if you do man, just blast that shit. And also, try head banging to it, especially once it really picks up. It's perfect for that, laugh.
@@viclagina347 I only mention it because he used to take real offense to being called a keyboard player. He seemed to consider it an insult for some reason

I remember a friend of mine stopping at a mall organ and piano place( they were normally playing like some classic music) could be heard all over the mall. So any ways my friend ask the guy if he could play at this organ that could do a drumbeat. Guy was like sure , so my friend messed with it a bit, then launched into Lazy. Pretty soon there is about 100 teenagers gathered around the store listening to my friend jam away
That's Jon Lord on Hammond organ as the main instrument. I love how he starts it like it is at a funeral and then he proceeds to 'kill' it, as always! He is the best rock keyboard player IMO. Yes, it is Ian Gillan playing harmonica. It is even better on "Made In Japan" live later in the year. You are right, they don't miss. Even the b-side to "Never Before" i.e. "When a Blind Man Cries" is a classic.

@@JoeandAngie lol, what are you talking about? The term Heavy Metal was coined by author William S Burroughs. And Steppenwolf were not a heavy metal band, they were psychedelic rock, and there is no way on God's green Earth that Goldy McJohn set the Rock keyboard standard in the late 60's, he's not even top ten! Jordan Ruddess is the best Keyboardist ever. Not just my Opinion, but also Music Radars Opinion. Check out Dream Theaters Dance of Eternity! It’s an instrumental.
Check out Deep Purple Strange Kinda Woman from the Made in Japan album. Great guitar and voice and both of those dueling back and forth. You will love it.
Great job, just a tip: please listen to the live version on Made In Japan: the changes between organ, guitar, rhythm instruments and vocals are more pronounced, more dynamic and unique - the hallmark of Deep Purple this time phase. Space Trucking is on Machine Head 4:33, on Made in Japan 19:53 (didn't hear it on purpose; but i remember the musical journey of the 5 band members and I will enjoy both versions tomorrow evening). Have fun!!!
… "Lazy" is also an absolute masterpiece 💎 ... Rock - Blues that is awesome !! Deep Purple has a lot of good songs ... especially from 1969-1975!! … 🎸🎹🥁🎤 Thank you

The MADE IN JAPAN album is my favorite , I do believe it is the greatest rock n roll album ever , but that's just my opinion !! When you are done with this album , you should check out two more songs , Speed King , and the live version of Child In Time , from 1970 !! Those two are a must !!! But then there is Burn , Fireball , Rat Bat Blue ,,,, way too many to name here , Mandrake Root , I could make a long list !! It seems to me that after 1976 , they seemed to , , not be as hard , but then they also went thru a few line up changes !! Hey , keep on jammin , gotta love DEEP PURPLE !!!
Such fine, simple straight-ahead blues rock, with a great chance for all the instruments to shine... especially Blackmore's clean aggressive soloing, this has always been my favorite lead guitar song from the Purple
Unlike modern albums, albums from this time period often had a theme or vibe to them and they were intended to be played all at once. This is also why you will find several songs that although considered separate songs are designed to be played together.
Great reaction video! 👍 If you want to hear more Deep Purple maybe the live album "Made In Japan" would be great. Deep Purple split up into the two bands "Rainbow" and "Whitesnake". If you like it might be interesting to the "Rainbow" album "Rising".
Hey Silas, great video as always. Had a couple requests for you, first one is Quadrophenia from The Who. It's basically like a combination of both Tommy and Who's Next, has some of their best tracks but again, its a rock opera so you have to listen to the full album to truly understand the songs. Next one is The Police Remastered. This one has some the most famous rock songs ever such as Roxanne, Message in a bottle, and Every Step You Take, I think you will really like this band!

"they never miss". Well sometimes they did but it didn't matter, they were so good it was hard to stay in your chair. Jon Lord was the personality of DP, the heavy and sometimes jazzy organ. Some of their tunes, like this one, sounded like intros to vampire movies. I saw this song as a commentary on what they used to call the "amotivational syndrome". Back in the day everyone was stoned on weed all the time so nobody felt like doing anything - lazy
One of the best "long songs" out there, along with Zep's "Stairway to...," Yes' "Roundabout," CSN's "Suite Judy Blue Eyes," and the Allmans' "Jessica." If you haven't listened to any of these, they are all worth it.

This is Mark II Deep Purple, the classic lineup, and they definitely don't miss. Mark I, the original, was pretty meh by comparison. They had a different singer and bassist, and were more psychedelic hippie rock. They had some decent stuff, but Mark II blows them away. That's when Ian Gillan became singer and Roger Glover bassist and they went in a hard rock direction. Mark III Purple, with David Coverdale (later of Whitesnake) singing, had some bangers, but just wasn't really Deep Purple to me anymore. Much like when Ronnie James Dio joined Black Sabbath. I bought this album when it was released in 1972. In my opinion, it is one of the ten best rock albums of the 70's.
Blues meets Jazz and introduces it to rock
1940's 12-bar blues, 1960's instrumentation, 1970's sensibility - run through the rock blender, etch with heavy metal acid, serve and enjoy.
