@@JAILEDforMEMES "Band like RUSH join the chat" In terms of sheer musicianship, Deep Purple were seldom equalled, and never bettered ... Rush were also fantastic. You can easily make a case to say they were one of DP's few equals.
Now you know how deep purple is , the best raw blues jam on this album. The whole damn album is a killer but this rocks. To me this line up is the one and only DEEP PURPLE.✌️
This track is a great example of why Ritchie Blackmore is one of my favorite guitarists of that era. I just love his tone and his approach. He's known as a "hard rock" guitarist, but man he could play a mean blues. One of those guys you can tell instantly in one note.
Please join my quest to have Blackmore do a Blues More album no one can play the blues like Blackmore. Maybe Candice could do some Bessy Smith tunes or something
The great Jon Lord on keyboards. One of the best. I played this as a kid and just dug it. It was that swinging bluesy rock thing going on. Thanks guys for the memories. 🤘
They guy who keeps it all together and drives the band along Ian Paice the drummer never gets mentioned enough. Now listen to the live version on 'Made In Japan' they take it to a whole different level.
Machine Head is one of the great rock albums from the 70's. Not a single bad track. Used to listen to this from beginning to end with headphones cranked.
Lord's organ often gets mistaken for a guitar *or a spaceship, not just because he was insanely talented and innovative with his playing, but he often fed it through a guitar amplifier Also PLEASE listen to more Cream Live! 🤟👹❤ Deep Purple also has some absolute live BANGERS Just so fckn cool and good music man (i'm from '94) *Oh i forgot you already did some Purp Live, but there is so much more! As well with Cream, there is so much more than Crossroads ;D
I don't understand how we lost the appreciation of the organ in rock music. Before the rise of synths, many rock bands utilized the Hammond B3 organ to fill out their sound, it fell to the wayside around 1970 with the invention of the Moog synthesizer.
When I was a kid watching older teenagers drunk wiggling around listening to this exact jam, I thought they were extremely weird. Then later I must have became "Weird!" too. Deep Purple "Smoke On The Water" got radio play, and a few other songs. They mostly got pigeonholed later as 'just another band', but I can remember "Deep Purple" logos everywhere. I mean everywhere. Bumper stickers, tags on buildings and signs, kids drawing "Deep Purple" on notebooks. I was the white kid playing basketball mostly listening to Motown. I'm probably still more Motown over Deep Purple, but I dig both now. It's hard to describe in a plain vanilla world how Deep Purple tags and identity made society shift, but I do remember Deep Purple fans didn't fall for the KISS nonsense.
Organist John Lord had begun to use amplification by Marshall guitar amps by this time. He still used the rotating Leslie‘s along w/ Marshall stack. John said he had to be more exact with the attack of the Marshalls.
The live in Japan Lazy is really really good ! You guys should check that one out ! Deep purple were Great ! Thanks men ! You’ll like it better ! I’ll bet ya !
Loved Purple since the In Rock album 1970. Saw them live twice 71,72. Great choice with Lazy. A great Bitish rock band you haven't done is Uriah Heep with the awesome vocals of David Byron. Hope you give them a try. Their first 6 albums are super.
You know Deep Purple, but their tunes were in the soundtrack of my life, a young USAF guy, around many like me in/about 1970-1975….lots of weekends drinking beer, smokin and just discovering/enjoying life! Thanks for the memories! Well done technical/musical review as always!
For a quick comparison, do the Joe Bonamassa and Jimmy Barnes version of this song. Joe's guitar work with Brad Whitford from Aerosmith is impeccable. Jimmy's vocal is amazing as always and Arlyn Schierbaum's keyboards are great. Check it out.
That's John Lord on the organ. Hammond B3 to be exact. The clean to slightly dirty sound is through a Leslie speaker, as is usual for a B3, but Lord came up with a way to split his signal and also run through a Marshall guitar amp stack with a special controller. That's why it can sound so dirty and very much like a guitar at times. Coolest organ sound ever!!
"Lazy" is also an absolute masterpiece 💎 ... Rock - Blues that is awesome !! Deep Purple has a lot of good songs ... especially from 1969-1975. 🎸🎹🥁🎤 Thank you
My favorite Deep Purple song. The live version on Made In Japan is much better tho. Really yall should listen to any of the songs on that album--will give you a better appreciation of drummer Ian Paice and really all of the guys are just jamming down.
Bought this album as a new release (Smoke on the Water was the single) and it is still in rotation today. Highway Star while rolling down the road on my bike is still a thrill.
THE WHOLE ORIGINAL ROCK METAL BAND IS FYYYRRRRRR YOU GUYS 💯 BUT THE WAY ( JON LORD & RITCHIE BLACKMORE ) PLAY OFF EACH OTHER IS INSANELYYYYY BEAUTIFUL! 😊
All time great album and total influence, like Zeppelin and Sabbath, on all hard rock and metal that came after. Everyone had that album, it often blasted out of Hot cars with super stereo sound systems. I Hope you do the whole album but Pictures of Home is an amazing deep cut and needs to be heard. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
You must check out some of the history videos about the difficulties they ran into recording this album, like having their hotel burn down (and there was smoke on the water...).
Hey Guy's, how about some good down home southern rock from a wonderful band from Spartanburg S.C. with the great flutist/vocalist Jerry Eubanks. This should have your toes tapping👞👠 "Take The Highway - Marshall Tucker Band" The Marshall Tucker Band helped to establish the southern rock genre in the early 70's and were well known for their infusion of blues, country and jazz which helped to establish a multifarious sound that was very creative and on par with another southern rock band with a similar sound; and were just as famous in the same time period, the Allman Brothers Band which used elements of blues, country rock and gospel rock in their music. Both of these bands were very entertaining and highly successful "jam bands." Both of these bands hold a special place in my heart.
No way y’all did this track! Shit is fucking incredible from start to finish. Y’all gotta react to The Doors albums, that’s my favorite band of all time

One of the best rock albums ever made. Tightest band ever.
“Tightest band ever” ? Band like RUSH join the chat… ☝🏼👀
@@JAILEDforMEMES Purple were tight but they also had a swing to their groove. I'll leave it at that.

Mk2 this lineup was best
This was a required album for any collection back in the day. Great song 🔥
Had 2 copies!!!
Still should be...
Still have the vinyl copy I bought after wearing out an 8-track copy of it... lol
This album and good weed... great times with friends. 😎
The first CD I ever purchased back in 1986.

Good solid basic blues rock, but the fantastic solos by Blackmore and Lord put it over the top.

Jon Lord was nothing short of badass.
Lord and Blackmore exercising their chops on this one.
Over 50 years old, and still timeless jam.
The great Jon Lord on keyboards. One of the best. I played this as a kid and just dug it. It was that swinging bluesy rock thing going on. Thanks guys for the memories. 🤘
It's so amazing to me how some English bands were able to grasp and perform American blues.
Seeing Deep Purple live for $6.50 ticket was one of my favorite purchases.
Agree
You should listen to 'Made in Japan'. Double live album.
Try "Pictures of Home", with solid solo parts from everyone!
Underrated and often overlooked but a solid gold banger. Paice is awesome on it. Everyone is.
They guy who keeps it all together and drives the band along Ian Paice the drummer never gets mentioned enough. Now listen to the live version on 'Made In Japan' they take it to a whole different level.

It keeps getting more amazing after 40 years listening... I nevr really listened to the funk and blues

There's nothing quite like the sound of a Hammond B3 organ!

1 tune that doesn't get reacted to is "Rat Bat Blue". I would suggest checking that tune out. It's pretty damn tight!

Deep purple are the most versatile rock band in the world
Jon Lord ran his Hammond organ through a cranked Marshall amp just like a guitar.

Heard Smoke on the Water followed by this. SOLD!!
Jon Lord's organ was played through a Marshall stack so he could compete with Blackmore.
There’s great live video of this as well. Jon Lord was the Beast of the Hammond!!!!!❤😊Singer Ian Gillan is playing the harmonica.
Hammond B3 Organ The original ones used vacuum tubes inside, like old guitar amps. They have a wicked type of growl when pushed...
Definitely one of the best Rock albums of all time.
Best album ever. RIP Jon
Back in the day, every band had a show-stopping blues boogie in their repertoire. Crowds loved it.
All the English bands loved our blues. There were so many great English bands in the '70"s.
Probably my favorite Purple song.
Insane bass and drums in this song
One of my favorite songs by then. And everybody in there just kills it every time.
One of my ten best albums
Deep Purple was THE Band in the Early seventies.
Man does that swing or what??? Jon Lord was a monster on them keys.
I played Jon Lord's part on my kichen counter, car dashboard, tool chest ...
Machine head was one of those iconic albums. I first heard it at a party when it had just come out. It blew me away!
You guys are on fire. Another song from an entire album of bangers.
Ian Paice - quick and tight. Never a mistake🥁
Pure funk and blues
The great Richie Blackmore on lead guitar and unforgettable John Lord on the organ
oh yeah, those Brit guys were all big disciples of the blues
Finally... saw em first in 73. Always my favorite song by them.
My favourite Deep Purple song! My foot can not stop tapping the whole way through.
John Lord just showing off on that organ!

in the intro the first was Richie Blackmore with the guitar then the organ came n on the 2nd part.
Ritchie Blackmore, Yes!!

One great album, top to bottom!😊
They keyboard player Jon Lord played the organ through a Marshall guitar amp. A crunchier sound.
