Hi Peter about your short cord problem, what I have done with most of my power tools is cut the cord down to about 200mm and put a straight connexion plug with a lead the length that suits me,and all I do is connect the lead to wich ever tool im using, one lead meany tools makes me vary happy if I am using two or three tools only one lead much like Festtool?

I've got the yellow version KS-02 and it's going strong even 2 years after but it has one small annoyance and it doesn't shut of the festool dust extractor so you either have to disconnect the cable or you need to very slowly disengage from press paddle in order to stop the extractor.
The reason for having a short cable on these tools is that in the event of a failure the mains disconnect is close by. Certain test standards like BS EN 62368 (annex G.7) mention max mains cord length of 2m. It did really annoy be before I came into compliance.
Absolutely superb sander! I have the Sealey Tools version and it's just as good as the Mirka DEROS, although slightly more bulky - only on the extraction part. GET ONE if you're considering this sander, although the Sealey Tools one is the one I have.
Hi Peter, About 2 years ago I stumbled over your videos, and I have to say that I enjoy every single one of them. Keep on with the great work - it is much appreciated, especially during these difficult times !
Thanks for your excellent videos, Peter. I think that this machine is now available under the German brand of „Menzer“ on the German version of Amazon. It is labelled "MENZER Exzenterschleifer ETS 150 5.0 (Modell 2020)". Buying it there will reduce the financial risks at least for German customers. Maybe you can find it on Amazon UK too.
Some month ago I bought the Menzer sander. When I used it the second time, it broke. The support process was clumsy, but Menzer repaired it. Up to now it worked fine under heavy usage. I can confirm that sanding results and dust collection are flawless.
Hi Peter, 100% agree with you about the woefully short mains cables supplied with a lot (probably most) power tools. Another huge gripe of mine is the way they all bundle up the cable, so you end up with a big plastic spring that you never manage to straighten out. Putting it in the airing cupboard overnight helps, but you still have a kinky (ooh ah) mains lead.
After watching your other sander video I decided I needed one! I managed to get a Makita BO6050J delivered brand new for £215 from Folkestone fixings. It has a 5.5mm orbit and finishing mode or fast remova/polishing mode. Just got it and spins much faster than the other 6" Makita I have. Thanks to you I realised how good the geared sanders are!
Do like that tool package - if I could justify spending the money I'd be ordering one. Nice that it has a 'flexible' connection to a dust collector included - most of my sanders the dust collector connection is a short hard connector which never remains connected in long periods of sanding.
Nice one Peter. Be interesting to see how it holds up. One of the reasons the only things I test/review from China are hand tools is the risk involved in leccy bits if they go wrong or arrive dodgy. This does looks alright though to be fair.
Cheers Stew. Yes, same here, it this was too interesting to pass up on. You can buy a Sealey branded one from eg FFX for not much more than I paid tbh. 🤷♂️👍
I bought the Bosch GET55-125 following BBB review as it is cheaper than Festool. Really happy with it. However light is not part of any review of that machine.
@@dougsaunders8109 Hi Doug. Yeah, the GETs or any of the forced rotation sanders like the Rotex aren't light. Very different type of sander to the Deros and coppies though. They're more for finishing where as the forced rotation type are more for grunt work, meaning we have to lug around a heavy gear box.💪 Thanks for watching the vid Doug.👍
Pela tools from Sweden and Sealey both sell the same sander. The Sealey is available from ffx in UK.. Thanks for the review.. definitely gonna get on as well.
Sooo…. I am joining you in the silliness. Got the Bosch GET 75-150. And it is great, but I cannot really use it one handed. Saw that Leo went for the Festool ETS after having the Mirka break down several times. So, I thought I’d give this a try. And getting the 125mm pad seems like a really good idea. I’d love to see you compare this to the ETS EC as well. Cheers and thanks for awsome content.
I've been looking and researching to find a mirka equivalent but haven't seen anything like this yet. I'm excited to see what will come when I finally find my way...
I got a Sumake one (150mm/5mm), made in Taiwan, that is very good quality and sits in price between the Ali Express one and the Merka. I paid £199+VAT just over a year ago and Rutlands had them for a while for a bit more. They seem to have gone off the market at the moment, but watch out for them.
This appears to be a rebadged/debadged version of the Sealey DAS150PS. The sealey is available in the UK, with UK warrenty support and without the long wait/postage costs. Wonder if they are exactly the same item made in the same factory? They sure look like it.
Peter Millard, I’ll be interested to see how you get on with it. I’m in the market for a new orbital sander. I’ve used a cheapo Bosch pax 220a for years and it’s served me well, but I’d like to upgrade before I embark on three rooms worth of fitted wardrobes in my house. A project that will see me spraying mdf for the first too, so thanks for your painting series, I’m finding it very helpful.
@@10MinuteWorkshop if you have the time and inclination, that would keep us all entertained I am VERY sure, but wouldn't Mrs 10 minutes have something to say?? 😊
Another alternative could be the Flex ORE 5-150, also low profile, brushless, 5mm stroke. And no paddle switch, which you don't like. I have seen a street price here of 2400 DKK, roughly 280 £.
I’ve been lurking on a mirka sander for 5 years, watching every reviews round there. Then I finally bought one. Then your videos started to be recommended to me ! Now I’m a bit concerned if I’ve done the good choice...
They’re fantastic sanders - but they do seem to have a bit of an issue where they can punch themselves after very light use. Have a look through the comments and folks are pretty evenly split between ‘it’s been abused for 7 years and hasn’t missed a beat’ and ‘yeah, me too’. So no mistake, just be aware that more than a handful of folks have had a few problems of a similar kind. 👍👍
Thank you for your answer. Yes I read the comments in this video, the previous one, the hand-i-craft ones. Quite annoying and stressful... Well let's see if I got the wrong number or not. I'm pretty sure these are not the average sander, but at this price tag, there can't be issues like these. Mine is showing today in the mail, will begin saturday with a tough job for it : sanding the hull of my boat. Will it survive ? 😊 Thanks again, these issues needs to be better known. Most of the video I looked were unboxing and first try review thus very good for the tool.
I'd like to add my pet peeve. Given that the only thing that controls orbit (2.5mm-5mm) is a cam why don't they sell Sanders that allow you to change from roughing to fine finishing. Well actually they did. Back in the day I worked in a boatyard stateside spraying painting yachts. One customer I worked for had a 3m sander, ran off a transformer at 30v and it came with a range of interchangeable cams so you could sand epoxy primer one day and de nib top coats all in this dandy package. Super light brushless motor. Amazing bit if kit. Not cheap but well worth the cash. I see from Ali Express this sander comes in two versions, 2.5mm and 5mm orbit. Bet you a pound to a penny the only difference is the cam. If you could buy both cams I might even have a punt.
Pretty sure the only difference between all 2.5 and 5mm sanders is the cams! Metabo make a sander that’s switchable between 2.8 and 6.2mm; I had one way back, it was pretty good. 👍
Enjoyed this Peter I have also learnt there is a lot I didn’t know about sanders 😂 I have also taken your advice on the speaking to camera segments, my Rode wireless go turned up today so will enjoy playing around with that 👍
Peter, yet another comprehensive review 👍 And luckily in the workshop, less chance of leaving the van doors open or leaving your camera outside 😉 Have a pleasant weekend. Dave
It’s been brilliant. I’ve been meaning to do a follow-up vid for a while, but will probably wait for the full year which is next month. I’d probably go for the Sealey branded version just for warranty peace of mind, but it’s a great sander, hasn’t missed a beat. 👍👍
Great review. Would like to see a follow up after you have put the tool through 100 hours of use. You can correct me if I am wrong, but I think the electrical components of MIRKA are farmed out to China which they don't want people to know. I had 3 brand new Mirkas' break within less than 40 hours of operating time. The sander in your review has better features like the ability to use different size disks and the peddle that just goes on or off. In real time, the variable peddle as demonstrated with the Mirka is actually impossible to duplicate as ones hand is constantly in motion while sanding. My Mirkas go from 0-100 every time I move my hand which is perhaps why the electronic parts fail. I have Festools' as well.. They have a fixed on and off button in addition to a speed control. If the sander in your review actually performs, it might be cheaper to buy 4 or 5 at once and throw them away when they break. It takes forever to get a tool fixed where I live if they can fix it at all.
Good evening Peter and everyone watching, does this sander still works? Has you or anyone bought these sanders (Hyvst, Sealey, Werku, etc...) and it failed? If so how long did it lasted and why did it fail?
It works perfectly. I also had the Sealey which I used for over a year, and was working perfectly when I gave it away recently to a channel member. They’re excellent. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop yes that's right but a good alternative if you want service and warranty. Also people really like the anti vibration on that thing.
Very interesting. I sent back a deros for reasons I wont bore you with, but a lower price point would overcome those issues for me. The sealey one makes much more sense due to amazon backup. cheers.
Well that went surprisingly better than I thought it was going to. 👌🏽 7 painful weeks though, should have been cheaper for the inconvenience...hahaha yeah not likely. Cheers for your sacrifice, Peter, taking one for the team! 👍🏽
Ordered one 2 months ago, never showed up. HYVSTAutoparts Store said a lot of parcels were lost, but do not refund as the dispute was closed by AliExpress. No sander, no money, no service. Never again.
Sorry to hear that and thanks for letting us know. As I said in the video this was the first purchase I’ve ever made from AliExpress, and apart from the glacial delivery it was flawless. Presumably you can claim on your credit card insurance or PayPal??
You are the second person that revived the Mirka who believed it only to be a variable speed by way of the paddle. . You can fix any speed with the paddle depressed , you just have to read the manual. There are options!
It was just a generic one I picked up,off eBay through a search tbh. This one - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125mm-Replacement-Backing-for-Mirka-CEROS-ROS-8295692111-44-Holes-By-PRONET-/293642145541?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286 - but there are plenty out there. 👍
Great video.. thanks.. regarding the £ 50 odd quid shipping, was that comprised of import duty and 20% vat,.. I ask because I'm tempted to give it a whirl..
Looks like a great buy Peter. You might be right on support if it fails, but have to say I've found support with Chinese sellers to be very good, with free replacements sent where needed albeit on cheaper items with lower shipping. Hope yours gives long service and you never need to put this to the test!
I never had a Mirka sander but we had a Festool Rotex with the 150 mm pad. I would have to say that although they very expensive they are worth the money for those who need them. From what I understand Mirka is a sander of very similar quality and probably a similarly high price. The Festool is a sander that sells for $650 to 670 or more before taxes. These are not those horrible Harbor Freight throw away tools by even a long shot!! I like things that are German. I find that they can last a really long time compared to something made in China. That is especially true if that thing made in China is a no name generic item, there is just no quality comparison there whatsoever!! When it comes to material removal the Festool can leave other sanders in their dust very easily with the right sand paper and the proper sanding mode selected. Really it can just seem outright unfair to the competition!!
How is the vibration/dempening on this unit? Mikra deros known for the low vibrations and good dempening. would be one of the reason to buy it. If this much cheaper alternative comes close even on that I'm seriously considering buying this. Sells for 135 euro and free shipping at the moment.
Honestly it's brilliant; quiet, powerful, great finish, great dust extraction; crazy good for the money, I used it this week on this video - ua-cam.com/video/li5AIXw3XPE/v-deo.html - and have lent it out to a few people to try (many current/previous Mirka owners) and they've all been impressed not just by the tool, but by the quality of finish. 👍
Where are Mirka sanders made? Sweden? I'm a Festool owner. I hope to have all those great sanders for a long time (send 'em to a local woodworking school when I die).
No, I don’t know for sure, but a visually very similar machine is available from Sealey, Delrem, Garkos and a few others - links already in the video description, thanks. 👍
It’s been flawless. Had the Mirka on test for the last 8 months or so, but I’ll be back onto the Hyvst when I move them on. 👍 $135 ‘Deros’ 1 year later vs £175 2021 Sealey [video 483] ua-cam.com/video/jelEm54OLQw/v-deo.html
Another great informative video Peter , 2 mtrs of cheap Chinese wire is always going to be replaced in my workshop i like at minimum 3 mtrs the only problem i have then is i cant get my tool back in its box😭😭
Yes, there’ll be a ‘10 months on’ video out before too long, but basically it’s been excellent. No issues whatsoever. I’ve had it in the hands of as many people as possible, who have used and abused it in every way imaginable, and it’s been flawless. As I say in this video, I’d probably but the Sealey branded version here in the UK just for warranty peace of mind, but I’d buy another, no question. 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop That's great to hear!! Hidden gems like these are hard to find! Thank you for showing this product to all of us. I live in the US and I wasn't able to find one that has a warranty on this price range. I am considering getting either the Festool because of the warranty for $400 or the Chinese brand for $200. We'll see, still on the research. Thank you extremely for this video! I love your content
Hi. Well, I did this '12 months on' video a few months back; $135 ‘Deros’ 1 year later vs £175 2021 Sealey [video 483] - ua-cam.com/video/jelEm54OLQw/v-deo.html. Long story short it's been excellent, the sealey version is better again, and I've been told (by a Mirka Deros owner) that the current Hyvst is a huge step up in build quality - if it wasn't for the colour, they said, they'd never guess it wasn't a Mirka. Either way, my ~18 month old Hyvst has been excellent, and my only slight concerns were with any warranty claims that may arise.
I really like the festool idea of having the cable separate from the tool. I don’t own any festool stuff but my work shop would be much tidier if I could store tools without their leads and have a few power leads hanging up.
Looks identical to the Sealy DAS150PS Which my mate bought from FFX for 150 with a discount code (170 full price). At least you get someone to send it back to of it fails. Mind you he is a few months in using his with no problems.
Hi Peter, just wondering what benefit you see in using a 5 inch pad rather than a 6 if the tool body size, power, stroke/orbit and Weight are the same?
Weight and body size are very small/light, 5” pad much easier to use on narrow areas, edges etc... where the 6” can be a bit tippy, and prone to wavering/rounding over. Also eg paintwork prep, where the 5” will fit nicely in a eg 4-panel door panel, whereas the 6” won’t. In my experience, anyway. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Thanks for the very valuable insight!, in my Humble opinion, it is not so much the weight, but the balance: I used the much lower Makita BO6040 and loved it for its short vertical distance. It was from a friend, so when I wanted to buy one, I was unable to find it, having been discontinued and replaced by the newer BO6050, same power but the newer is taller, so there comes the "Tippyness". Same for my old Bosch PE-12AE 5", 3mm orbit, 300-ish watts random orbit, which is tall as are many others. The Mirka looks much lower and squat, so it shoud be much comfortable and controllable, but I have never used one. The thing I have an issue with all those sanders that are around 300-350 watts, like most DeWalts, Milwaukees, Ryobis, etc. is the combination of 3mm orbit with "puny" power: I personally find them anemic and only useful for quite smaller jobs, but too slow and tiring (even at a light weight) for say, a large dinning table about 9 by 5 feet, or polishing the top of a concert piano, or removing the scratches produced by turning on the wipers on a volcanic ash covered midsize car windshield... My new Makita BO6050 has allowed me to function almost as powerful as a medium belt sander (3" X 21") and able to finely sand and polish delicate car paint or polyester finishes with the same machine, like having a two-machines machine!. On another scratched car windshield, using an adapted felt pad glued to a velcro backed sanding disc, together with very fine Cerium Oxide polish abrasive for glass, the powerful 700+ watt Makita cut the time to less than one third, and the effort was halved (more weight)... Thus,I only keep the old Bosch PE-12 AE because I still have a lot of sanding discs, but now the 6" Makita powerhouse is my machine to go. Keep up your excellent work, Peter. Best wishes from Mexico City!
@@10MinuteWorkshop so my Chinese sander came today I think it was 8 to 10 days it made it here very impressed it does not stall when I press down on it like other random orbit Sanders but there's no fan for dust pickup although the dust does end up in the bag somewhat. It came with 16 ft of cable that's pretty good rubberized cable. Nicest sander I ever used besides my professional floor sanders definitely going to help me on my stain jobs. Thanks Peter
Hows this sander holding up? I'm looking at getting one to replace my burnt out ets 150/5. In NZ a ETS is $730nzd, this one is $280nzd. The other option is a bosch gex125/150 for $400nzd.
It’s great. I’ve lent it out to a few people and they’ve had no issue at all with it, and I’ve used it regularly in the workshop without any problems whatsoever. 👍👍
@3:10 "Festool please take note" 😂👍🏻 And next to adding a set in with a brand new sander, please start selling sets that go through the grits in a package now that you've got your pen and paper out already. 😜
@@10MinuteWorkshop for what I can see in Spain is also sold rebranded by the local brand Stayer, much like Sealey’s, at around 185€. Model RO 5. It’s a well known entry level profesional brand, so they guarantee should be okay-ish. Their welding stuff is good. I might try it.
Hi Peter, great video as usual! Sorry but an unrelated question...couldn't help but notice over your right shoulder - have you bought a bigger bandsaw?
Thanks! Yes, I bought the 10” Aldi Ferrex when it came back in stock recently - they sold out fast last year, and this! In two minds about doing a review because you won’t be able to buy it again until next year 🤷♂️👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop I think a review would be good - it is a rebadged Scheppach after all and although it is £90 more expensive than the Ferrex one it is still the entry level 10" bandsaw. I bought the titan on your recommendation and it really is the best tool I have ever bought! But I have outgrown it and now need something with a deeper cutting capacity.
Honestly, it’s been brilliant. I’ve lent it out to a few people for them to give it a thorough work over as well, and it’s been flawless. No issues at all. 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Good to know. I see the Milwaukee 6" sander is a bit more expensive, but offers multi stroke with a simple switch between. As that has a 3 year warranty, perhaps good for a video comparison!
Works great. $135 ‘Deros’ 1 year later vs £175 2021 Sealey [video 483] ua-cam.com/video/jelEm54OLQw/v-deo.html Been using a Mirka for the last ~10 months , also great. 🤷♂️👍
Interesting stuff, I get horrible vibration through my Titan ROS and really need an upgrade. This is a risky purchase do you think the Sealey is identical?
Hi Peter, I understand the frustration with short cables but a worse problem is having to plug in all these differing cables into the power take-off on the dust extractor. I changed all my power cables to the neutrik quick release system (even my Festool TS55 and Domino) and everything works off a single cable plugged into the dust extractor. Well worth a modest investment.
300 grams heavier and also larger than the Deros, people say you don't notice that while sanding. Wait till you don't do flat horizontal surfaces whole day, and more difficult to reach areas. Weight and size are important here. Also warantee. One(?) year on the knockoff, three years on the Mirka. Last: resell value. A well maintained Deros is still a very good value after 2 or 3 years when you want to sell it. Now try to sell the knock off. You will, for 25 quid or something. All in all i think the Deros is well worth the extra.
It’s the 10” Ferrex yes. I’m in two minds about a review tbh, because you can’t buy them now, and they won’t be for sale again until next year afaik. 🤷♂️👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop I would enjoy it. I wait for tools to come round again. been waiting over 6 months for the small parts draws to come round again LOL . Also do Scheppach do the same one? Think their the same are they??
Great video Peter, really interested as I’m hoping that Mrs Wooddities is going to bring me some Axi vouchers for Xmas so I can buy a 150mm sander. Don’t think I’ll be rushing to buy one of the Hyvsts, but interesting to see how it compares! Also, is there an upcoming video on that Ferrex bandsaw in the background? Or did I miss that one?
Thanks Tom! No, indeed, but I’m curious to see how it goes. Also available here in the UK branded as Sealey, Delrem, and others. And yes, it’s a new-ish Aldi bandsaw. I’m in two minds about a review tbh as they sold out fast, and likely won’t be back again until next year, so not sure about how worthwhile it would be. 🤷♂️👍
I am on my third Deros, love the machine, (mainly due to it's low weight) some days I sand for three hours solid. But they don't have a long life they rattle to death, So maybe I will try a chinese ripoff, But please, i'm Finnish. When you say Mirka, roll the r. It's Mirrrrrrrrrrka, thanks for your videos, regardless of your r rolling,,
Hi Peter, I also hate short leads but I took a slightly different way of sorting this out. Most of my corded tools came with short leads, the first thing I did was to cut the with about 5” of cable (I nicked the idea from Festool), I then put on a push fit plug and I made up some 10 feet, 15 feet and 20 feet extensions with the other end of the plug on them. I now have my tools neatly stowed away with no leads but I can use any of my extension leads I need to, the leads do not get in the way when I am storing the tools and I can reach anywhere I need to get to.
Yes, I’m pretty sure that’s what I’ll do with this one, although I do dislike the ‘knot’ of the connector at the end of a tool. Definitely a better bet (for me) than poking around in the guts of the machine though! 😂👍
I knew a person who part owned a factory in China. Kept a house there since he was in China for 50% of the time. Leàrnt 2 Chinese languages. After 25 years of this setup he had local friends and knew the movers and shakers. Anyway, he says, one day as a treat he was taken to see a newly opened high tech factory producing a famous brand electronic item. That was the morning and following a big lunch he was taken to another brand new high tech factory bigger than the first. It made Happy Dragon Long Life Prosperous electronic item that item apart from some cosmetic changes and some minor tweaks to cut production costs was almost the same item. Intellectual property in China is a western concept that they don't copy.
@sheil - "cut production costs " is basically the whole story. I used to work in consumer electronics design and mfg. There are very few instances or "real" intellectual property in the world - mostly its all commodities. The diff between a branded and unbranded tool is mostly in two areas: 1)cost reduction in materials and design (think reinforced plastic shell vs non; electrical components that have the exact same function but with higher specs or tolerances etc 2) QA/QC - the lack or reduction of processes that ensure all the final products that hit the market are on par
@@mikec3546 Hi, I don't come from a production or engineering background but I suspect the economies of scale also have a negative effect. If your making a million widgets there is a sound reason for bringing to market 2% cheaper even though for the extra 2% you get an appreciably better widget. In effect we are getting pretty ordinary when reasonably good would not be much more. Is this so? Second as for qa surely the problem is not everyone returns dodgy products. Take tools from German A*** chain, some of them have very high defect rates, there must be some point where the administrative costs of returns is so high that you either stop stocking the item or put penalties in your contract to ensure your supplier does better QA. My entirely uneducated guess is that this return rate could be quite low even 20% of sales returned would chew through a lot of profit.
@@JohnRR There is a theory in psychology and a similar theory in jurisprudence that we might call the fair play law. Yes, it's brilliant! Just waiting to get it back from someone I lent it to - it's been out to 3 or 4 people who've used it in a variety of ways - and then I'll be doing a follow-up video about it. I've missed it actually, when it's been out on loan. Great sander. 👍
Cable lenghts. Bought a new Makita circular saw this summer, the lead is definitely less than 2m. Lugging my extension lead around work is a pain in the hole >:-|
Great video Peter I'd be interested to see if it lasts. I've been more than happy with all I've bought off Ali express the price compensates for the lengthy shipping time. Any issues I'd be grateful to hear Zhou. Cheers
I've found aliexpress to be a little bit of a hit or miss gamble most of the time. Sometimes it arrives after weeks of waiting and it's in the bin within 10 minutes, and sometimes it's just as good as the "original" product but 10 times cheaper, strongly dependent of the item of course.
Sorry for being an ignorant Norwegian, but what does stroke mean? I have the mirka random orbit, linear and delta sander. But in only a hobbyist, and think they are fantastic. I upgraded from the cheapest you can get, so that is probably natural:)
Hi Lewi. Sorry, ‘stroke’ or ‘orbit’ is the amount of lateral movement there is in the sander - the distance the pad moves away from centre during its orbit; the more it can travel sideways, the more aggressive it is. This is why you see sanders sold as say, a 150/5 or 150/3 - a 150mm pad with a 5mm or 3mm orbit. Mirka make great sanders, but they are not without a few issues. 👍👍
Oh, that’s easy - Festool RTS 400; small, lightweight, smooth, bulletproof. Best all-rounder; Festool ETS 150/5 - 6” random orbital with a 5mm stroke, so, so many things you can do with it, from stripping paint to fine finishing. 👍👍
I have watched your sander video and I still don't understand what 125mm is used for. I have the mirka sander that takes 125 and 150mm and have never used the 125. Even if I literally had.a 125mm wide board I could still sand it with the 150mm, couldn't I? Same with strokes, you can just use rpm, technique and grit size to sand less aggressively, don't see why I would need 3mm stroke.
3mm stroke is useful for fine finishing. If you’re prepping eg a standard London-pattern 4-panel door, then the 150mm sander won’t fit, the 125 is just right. 150 is tippy on narrower edges ime, 125 easier. That’s what I find - if it’s not for you then no problem, stick with the 150. 👍👍
Any tool that requires me to repair, or send back to repair, is not* a good tool. And the more that a tool needing repair has cost, the worse it is. That is my gripe with big $ tools. Like Leo, I'm 1-armed (and 1 legged) so it takes patience for us, but a tool breaking will break my patience lol. Recently, I'm going more and more into pnuematic tools. You put your money into a compressor, and even cheap tools are tough. Heavy, but tough lol. But I'm a giant (well, a half-giant) so heavy tools are a big deal. So I'm currently looking in to a good air sander. But far from decided. Ever use one?
Wow, can’t imagine the patience it must take for you complete a project - total respect! 💪 Agree about air powered tools, even the cheap ones - and I only have one, a nailer - seem to be tough as anything. I’ve no experience of air sanders though, hopefully someone will be along to chip in soon. 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop thank you. Having Leo on UA-cam has made it a lot easier for me as I go from tinkering to metal/woodworking. He has made a lot of the mistakes for me to learn from already. Haha. I'm trying to learn more about sanders now and envious of those sanders that cost more than my router lol. But I might have to take the plunge. I overthink things, and have been attempting to make a rolling v-slot sanding sled. (Like the overly-engineered router sled I just made lol... there IS such a thing ass *too smooth* in terms of linear router sleds lol.) So thanks again... not moving today so I'm catching up on videos, and look forward to more of yours. Cheers.
My experience with aliexpress orders, and the like, is that oftentimes they will send you a new machine and they ask you to destroy the defective unit and send pictures.
shipping containers have double in price since covid i can only assume this reflects delivery cost and delay .thanks for the heads up on the Trend paper sick of paying for premium paper that sucks
As interesting as this is, by that point, you may as well get Festool's cheapest 5in random orbit sander and you could probably get it the same day if you just went to your nearest dealer.
Brilliant actually. I was using it this week and it performs very well. I’m still nit a fan of the flappy-paddle thing, but that aside the sander’s great! 👍👍
Interesting you talk about the noise, so far I have found all sanders to be dead quiet!!!!

@@stuartclelland2000 Me too. I've done the same with many of my power tools, mainly as they are a lot easier to store and take up less room.

I've got the yellow version KS-02 and it's going strong even 2 years after but it has one small annoyance and it doesn't shut of the festool dust extractor so you either have to disconnect the cable or you need to very slowly disengage from press paddle in order to stop the extractor.
@3:10 “Festool please take note.” 😂👍
The reason for having a short cable on these tools is that in the event of a failure the mains disconnect is close by. Certain test standards like BS EN 62368 (annex G.7) mention max mains cord length of 2m. It did really annoy be before I came into compliance.
I live in Stockholm, Sweden and not a single one of my hand tools have a cord length of 2 meters. And I have well more than a dozen. 🤷♂️
+1 for the Festool plug-it system then at 4 metres 👍
Cheers Peter
BTW my square, dogs etc arrived
Will check it out this weekend
Absolutely superb sander! I have the Sealey Tools version and it's just as good as the Mirka DEROS, although slightly more bulky - only on the extraction part. GET ONE if you're considering this sander, although the Sealey Tools one is the one I have.
Hi Peter,
About 2 years ago I stumbled over your videos, and I have to say that I enjoy every single one of them.
Keep on with the great work - it is much appreciated, especially during these difficult times !
Thank you, that’s very kind of you to say, and very much appreciated. 👍
Peter, will follow your journey with great interest. Thank you for being our Beta tester.
Thanks! Looking forwards to using it in anger! 👍👍
Thanks! Yes, also by Sealey, Delrem, Garkos and a few others - links already in the video description, thanks. 👍
Some month ago I bought the Menzer sander. When I used it the second time, it broke. The support process was clumsy, but Menzer repaired it. Up to now it worked fine under heavy usage. I can confirm that sanding results and dust collection are flawless.
Doh! I have just bought a Deros 5650. Previously used the Mirka handy kit and was impressed by the lack of mesh clogging and the dust collection.
Deros is a great sander! 👍👍
Cheers Steve! Yeah, maddening! Back in the photographic days we used to hang a weight off them and use a hot air gun! 😂👍
Excellent! Yes, geared sanders are great, albeit a bit on the heavy side! 💪👍
@@BischBaschBosch agreed, good recommendation all the same thanks 👍🏻
Pela tools from Sweden and Sealey both sell the same sander. The Sealey is available from ffx in UK.. Thanks for the review.. definitely gonna get on as well.
Thanks! Didn’t know about Pela tools, but I mentioned the Sealey in the description. 👍👍
Oh, I'm going to buy it!
Well - you can get a version of this branded Sealey, for nit much more than I paid tbh. Link in video description 👍👍
Completely agree on the short cable I hate when they do that. Iv put longer cables on all my corded power tools.
👍👍
Thanks Goran! 🙌👍
I've been looking and researching to find a mirka equivalent but haven't seen anything like this yet. I'm excited to see what will come when I finally find my way...
This is kind of amazing. I was just looking for a cheaper ceros alternative
Spooky!😂👍
Good Morning. There is also a comparable grinder from Flex. With suction in the device. Greetings from Schaumburg Germany
Thanks for the info - I'll keep my eyes peeled! 👍
This appears to be a rebadged/debadged version of the Sealey DAS150PS. The sealey is available in the UK, with UK warrenty support and without the long wait/postage costs. Wonder if they are exactly the same item made in the same factory? They sure look like it.
Thanks. I mention the Sealey in the video description, and it’s also available under the Delrem brand, and others. 👍👍
Another very interesting video Peter! thank You! My goodness you are keeping us waiting with baited breath for the last of your last installs!!
Thanks Stuart! Yes! I need to finish that one; what do you think - a shorter video out every day between Christmas and new year?? 🤔🤷♂️

Thank you! It’s a slow crawl; next year though, most likely. 🤷♂️👍
Another alternative could be the Flex ORE 5-150, also low profile, brushless, 5mm stroke. And no paddle switch, which you don't like. I have seen a street price here of 2400 DKK, roughly 280 £.
Good to know thanks! They're £380 here in the UK, so I think most folks would go for the Metabo version of the Deros, or the Sealey.
Hi Peter. You can get this sander in the U.K. as a Sealey Palm Sander. Although I still prefer my Metabo 450 which has brilliant stock removal.
Thanks Kevin, yes, also by Delrem, Garkos and a few others - links already in the video description, thanks. 👍👍
Enjoyed this Peter I have also learnt there is a lot I didn’t know about sanders 😂 I have also taken your advice on the speaking to camera segments, my Rode wireless go turned up today so will enjoy playing around with that 👍
Cheers Ross! Aha! I’ll be expecting some crystal-clear audio from your channel soon then! 👌💪👍👍
Thanks Ross! Aha! I’ll look forward to seeing - and hearing - some crystal clear audio from you soon then! 👍👍
Peter, yet another comprehensive review 👍
And luckily in the workshop, less chance of leaving the van doors open or leaving your camera outside 😉
Have a pleasant weekend.

Thanks Dave! 😂😂👍👍
Very interesting! What about vibrations and weight? That also seems to be one of the biggest arguments for the mirka or festool.
Very light, low vibration, easy to use one-handed. 👍👍
Mirka 1kg, chinese copy 1.3kg.
How has the hyvst held up, I'm a decorator looking at getting a starter dust less set up and can't really afford mirka/festool at the minute
It’s been brilliant. I’ve been meaning to do a follow-up vid for a while, but will probably wait for the full year which is next month. I’d probably go for the Sealey branded version just for warranty peace of mind, but it’s a great sander, hasn’t missed a beat. 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop awesome thanks for the advise and the reply would you have any recommendations on an extractor to pair with it
Does anyone know the wrench size on this unit? Need to swap the pad as it does not stick anymore and cant figure out which wrench to slot in! Thanks!
20mm, but you need a flat ie pressed steel one to get in there. 👍

Great video.. thanks.. regarding the £ 50 odd quid shipping, was that comprised of import duty and 20% vat,.. I ask because I'm tempted to give it a whirl..
No, not as far as I’m aware. It was a straight $55 shipping, the last leg came from the Netherlands. No VAT or import duty that I know,of. 🤷♂️👍

Looks like a great buy Peter. You might be right on support if it fails, but have to say I've found support with Chinese sellers to be very good, with free replacements sent where needed albeit on cheaper items with lower shipping. Hope yours gives long service and you never need to put this to the test!
Thanks Nick! Yes, worth a punt, I thought! 👍👍
Mirka and Rotex are very different sanders. As is this.

Hi Peter, any updates on your experience with the Hvyst Sander? Junk or good stuff?

Yep - didn’t know FFX had it, but I mention the Sealey in the video description, with links.👍👍
...“same“ sander (for the german market) --> MENZER ETS 150 --> 214€.
@@10MinuteWorkshop Thanks very much for the reply, I don't use a sander that much so am not as accustomed to the finer nuances. Cheers 👍
Looks like you need to get a bandaid on that left index finger. I’ll look forward to your coming comments on the sander.

Hello Peter, how is the sander doing six months on......are you still pleased with it?
Honestly, it’s been brilliant. I’ve lent it out to a few people for them to give it a thorough work over as well, and it’s been flawless. No issues at all. 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Good to know. I see the Milwaukee 6" sander is a bit more expensive, but offers multi stroke with a simple switch between. As that has a 3 year warranty, perhaps good for a video comparison!
Have you been using it much since the video? How did it go? Still working ?
Works great. $135 ‘Deros’ 1 year later vs £175 2021 Sealey [video 483]
ua-cam.com/video/jelEm54OLQw/v-deo.html
Been using a Mirka for the last ~10 months , also great. 🤷♂️👍
Interesting stuff, I get horrible vibration through my Titan ROS and really need an upgrade. This is a risky purchase do you think the Sealey is identical?
As far as I can tell, the Sealey is the same sander, and I’d say the peace of mind is worth the price hike, personally. 👍👍
Good plan. If I wasn’t mostly a Festool plug-it user I’d have done something similar. 👍👍
Is that a New Aldi Ferrex bans saw? have I missed an episode or is ther a review coming? thanks :)
I was in two minds whether to buy it, wish I had now.
James’ Man Cave has recently reviewed it.

@@10MinuteWorkshop i belive scheppach hbs261 is the same. Maybe is is worth the video😉
Wow. Please update us in February 2021. I really want to know how its been?
I am on my third Deros, love the machine, (mainly due to it's low weight) some days I sand for three hours solid. But they don't have a long life they rattle to death, So maybe I will try a chinese ripoff, But please, i'm Finnish. When you say Mirka, roll the r. It's Mirrrrrrrrrrka, thanks for your videos, regardless of your r rolling,,
Thanks! And I’ll do my best to roll my R’s in future! 😂👍
Interesting Mirka cousin sander, Peter 👍😜
Sure is! 😂👍
Maybe red device you bought is pure original Mirka but produce in night shift?
What about vibrations ?
I couldnt possibly comment! 😂 Very, very smooth sander - no problems with vibration at all. 👌👍
I have been using the ”Pela” version for half a year now and it works great. Both proffesional and private. 😄👌
Nice! Thanks for letting me know! Been using this one regularly and it’s been very good! 👍
Yes, indeed, no arguments there.👍
@sheil - "cut production costs " is basically the whole story. I used to work in consumer electronics design and mfg. There are very few instances or "real" intellectual property in the world - mostly its all commodities. The diff between a branded and unbranded tool is mostly in two areas:
1)cost reduction in materials and design (think reinforced plastic shell vs non; electrical components that have the exact same function but with higher specs or tolerances etc
2) QA/QC - the lack or reduction of processes that ensure all the final products that hit the market are on par
There is a point where the average person takes the view your conduct is so egregious in other respects it negates a remedy when you have been wronged. So let's see, Corporations that take extraordinary steps to reduce taxation that whilst legal is totally immoral. Corporations that spend millions buying politicians to skew the law against the public good and for their own venal interests. Corporations championing deregulation whilst enforcing every single benefit they get from regulation. (I find the hypocrisy of a organisation that ONLY exists because of regulation preaching deregulation up there with Televangelists). Finally, my sympathy for corporations that knowingly outsource their production and hand over their intelligence property to a jurisdiction that they know has a poor reputation for enforcing IP is limited. They have calculated that there is a greater profit in the outsourcing etc, live by the sword...
Great video as usual Peter. Oh is that another band saw series on the way 😉
Thanks Liam! Another bandsaw?? 🤔😂😂👍👍
how is it doing right now? is it still working?
Yes, it's brilliant! Just waiting to get it back from someone I lent it to - it's been out to 3 or 4 people who've used it in a variety of ways - and then I'll be doing a follow-up video about it. I've missed it actually, when it's been out on loan. Great sander. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop thanks great news! Might order it but we have to pay extra taxes in the Netherlands for orders from China.
Cable lenghts. Bought a new Makita circular saw this summer, the lead is definitely less than 2m. Lugging my extension lead around work is a pain in the hole >:-|
Yep. I’ve been told it’s a safety directive - so you’re never more than 2 m away from isolating the tool. Nothing would surprise me 🤷♂️👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop It's a wonder we're allowed to play with pointy and sharp things that spin. :-(
Don’t give them any ideas!
@@nialstewart8263 And don't forget that: "According to the Cancer State of California, all the cables contain a substance that is known to...."
Has this sander held up?
Yes. $135 ‘Deros’ 1 year later vs £175 2021 Sealey [video 483] ua-cam.com/video/jelEm54OLQw/v-deo.html
Great video Peter I'd be interested to see if it lasts. I've been more than happy with all I've bought off Ali express the price compensates for the lengthy shipping time. Any issues I'd be grateful to hear Zhou. Cheers
Thanks, will do! 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop thanks :)
This is a 1:1 copy from Menzer ETS 150
@@peterkuhlmann426 no,sorry. i`ve only watched a few viedeos on you tube about it. i think i will buy one because mirka is to expensive
Curious, do you have a “all around favorite” sander?
Oh, that’s easy - Festool RTS 400; small, lightweight, smooth, bulletproof. Best all-rounder; Festool ETS 150/5 - 6” random orbital with a 5mm stroke, so, so many things you can do with it, from stripping paint to fine finishing. 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop - Thanks a lot. Love your videos!
Peter, what part of England are you from? You familiar where Warrington is?
Liverpool originally, so yes, very familiar with Warrington! Been in London since I was 18 though. 🤷♂️👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Im in the States but my Mom was from there as my Dad met her during ww2 at Burtonwood Air Base
Any commenters recommend a good, smooth pnuematic (air) sander?
(Like the overly-engineered router sled I just made lol... there IS such a thing ass *too smooth* in terms of linear router sleds lol.)
So thanks again... not moving today so I'm catching up on videos, and look forward to more of yours. Cheers.
Only 135 for a sander.... Bargain... Great video Peter... I've just ordered one even though you don't recommend it... It seems fairly powerful
Thanks! And yeah, I know, there are much cheaper sanders available, just not the Mirka! 😂👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop I've one ordered... I liked the power of it
My experience with aliexpress orders, and the like, is that oftentimes they will send you a new machine and they ask you to destroy the defective unit and send pictures.
Interesting, thanks! Now *that* would make a good video! 😂👍👍
looks a good tool. good review
Thanks! Yes, great sander right now - we'll see how it goes over the next few months! 👍
shipping containers have double in price since covid i can only assume this reflects delivery cost and delay .thanks for the heads up on the Trend paper sick of paying for premium paper that sucks
Good point, hadn’t thought of Covid as a possible cause! 👍
Where can you buy these from please
Links in the video description to this model, and to the Sealey-branded version available for sale here in the UK. 😂
@@10MinuteWorkshop ok THANKS 😂😂👍
Good option if bought through Sealey. Covered by a uk warranty.
Yep, as I say in the video description, with links. 👍👍
Thanks 😉 😉 👍
As interesting as this is, by that point, you may as well get Festool's cheapest 5in random orbit sander and you could probably get it the same day if you just went to your nearest dealer.
If you think Festool’s 5” RO is anything like this, you’re really missing the point.
How has your $135 sander held up so far?
Brilliant actually. I was using it this week and it performs very well. I’m still nit a fan of the flappy-paddle thing, but that aside the sander’s great! 👍👍
