This sander is only $280 at Lowe’s right now. I will be picking this up tomorrow. Thanks for reviewing this for us Matt. God bless you and your family.
My local saw mill actually had me try the Bosch last time I stopped by. They had purchased several over the last year or two for their builds and couldn't help but praise it up and down.
My first factory job was sanding doors at Kraftmaid Cabinetry, we used dewalt sanders. I will never pick up another dewalt because they vibrated so bad after a few days use. This Bosch looks like it’s coming home with me soon though. Just like that Hercules dust extractor I bought right after watching your review.
I recently bought this sander and LOVE it. The cool thing about the dust collection piece is that it unclips so you can use it as a vacuum to clean your workspace or sanding pad. I'm so glad it compares well to the Festool. 😊
This is a modernized version of the excellent Bosch 1250 DEVS which is a ridiculously powerful sander. My only knock on the Bosch sanders like these? Running them one handed is very tiring but Ive never run the Festool Rotex so I cant compare it to the Bosch. Ive found it to be very good for fast material removal but still good enough to do fine sanding on solid wood.
It feels well balanced using it one handed sanding walls, but you're right in my experience as well, using it one handed sanding slabs tires the arm out quick.
Sander was the first power tool I upgraded and chose the 5in version of this bosch. This has changed the sanding game for me. Turbo mode has removed any need for belt sander and regular mode product excellent finish on the wood. Turbo model is really a beast and you need to hold it well and I am glad for the attached tube to hold it like an angle grinder. This coupled with 3M sandpaper is all what anyone need for any sanding job (may be add milwaukee m12 detail sander). I was surprised at that time that not many people in US are using this. Bad marketing from Bosch! Currently using it with a shop vac which still produces great dust collection but looking to upgrade to hercules dust extractor. Great review!
Same experience, any big job I go straight to this sander. When I was researching an alternative to the expensive festool, I only found 2 or 3 youtube videos on this sander and bought it early 2021 when stock finally showed up during the whole supply chain nonsense. I haven't touched my smaller belt sanders since, I even only used my 4 x 24 Makita belt sander once on a table with seriously offset expansions. Even after all these years I've never seen anyone else with this sander, it's still so rare I even had to order the protector pads from the UK since I can't find them in Canada.
Great review, as far as a storage box? I mostly hope it doesn’t come with one because of my small shop just doesn’t allow for bulky cases. My tools are all hung on a French cleat system. Thanks Mighty Matt!’
In Europe you have the option to get it in a L-Boxx (Bosch platform of cases) or not, depends on what suits your needs I don’t know if Bosch do that for my fellows Americans Personally I’m taking a lot of tools on the job site so L-Boxx it was Also a dusty box is always better than a dusty tool !
Same, mine is in the top of my tool box, a huge systainer case would just take up room I don't have. Yet here i am with the Makita track saw with their old storage box and those 4 terrible clips...
I’ve had the 5” version of the Bosch for about 3 years now. It’s a beast and I’ve had no issues at all with it. Put it in turbo mode, put two hands on it and hang on. 👍🏼
Well done, as usual! I've had the Bosch for a number of years, it's a beast. I bought a systainer for it. I have a Rotex 90 (3" with a delta attachment; - ! and a finish sander.
I bought the 5 inch based on this video. All my other sanders take 5 inch discs, so I decided to start in that size. One of the best purchases I've made for sure. Cut my sanding time in half at least. Thank you Matt for the excellent content and the advice.
Kudos to Bosch for making a high quality sander. I've been debating the Rotex for a while, but I think the Bosch will be my choice for sure. I can always make a "systainter" for it using Packout/Techstack/whatever and some shadow foam or 3d print some custom pieces for the storage box. Regardless, $300 for the Systainer is just too much. Thanks for making this video, Matt! Great information, well presented. Very high quality audio and video.
I’ve this sander for about 2years now and I love it little heavy when I sand vertically but for the price you can’t beat this beast and You can get a Bosch systainer was well many options on Amazon 👌🏻
I have this sander and love it! I added a Festool Plug-it conversion kit ($30 at the time) to allow me to swap the Festool power cord with my finish sander. However, it appears they killed the conversion kits years ago.
I got the sander for almost 2 years now I've had excellent results with the sander it's fantastic sander Bosch is always been fantastic with Sanders and grinders. Also you can buy a box for it for probably $60 that will fit it just fine great sander
Bought mine reconditioned for $180 yeaaarrs ago it's one of my absolute favs. if i recall correctly bosch was the one first to market on these. Another bosch sander worth checking out is the BOSCH GEX34-6N. It's very similar to the other festool finish sanders in terms of quality but with nearly zero vibration.
Bought this in 2020 and have used the crap out of it, even used it for sanding half the walls of an apt before painting. I originally wanted the festool but could not justify the price at all, so I did my research and found the Bosch. Gets really warm after 2 hours of constant sanding but always held up. I would definitely buy it again, it's an amazing sander.
What about polishing mode? That's where the Rotex really shines. You can put 2000 grit and up and get a dense grain board to shine like glass. That could be the hook for me.
I have the Makita version. I think it was 380 when i bought it 2 or 3 years ago. It comes with a sustainer, which makes it even more like the Festool. I love it.
Good review, I own this Bosch sander and love it! it was a game changer for me when deciding to up my sanding game. I own some festool stuff, but could not bring myself to buy the sanders they have due to price. I own majority bosch tools so I picked this up hoping it was going to be great. highly recommend to anyone looking for a 6" sander.
I was comparing the Rotex to the Bosch before I purchased the Bosch. It's been a great sander for sure. One other difference between these two is the Rotex has tool-less sanding pad change. You can find both of the sanders reconditioned online cheaper than the new price and they come with a 1 year warranty.
One of your "Pros" for Festool is the systainer. I purchased the 6" 3M sander last year after one of your videos compairing it to the Festool. Totally happy with it. I too liked the idea of the systainer so I bought one for the 3M. Still $200.00 under the Festool and love it as an option. Thanks for all of the work you do on your channels.
I have owned this sander for 4 years now. It is unbelievable I use it all the time. In fact its my go to sander. just a bit over a year of owning it. I had a static charge through my hose and it was shocking me, so much so that it killed up the sander. It stopped working. even though it was out of Warranty Bosch still honored their warranty. They fixed the sander and I have not had a problem with it since. Just make sure you are using an anti static hose with it. YOu wont regret buying it.
Good to know, I've always used the festool vac on it more by fluke since I don't use it for small jobs. Now if i ever go to use it on a small job I will avoid using any of my smaller vacs that don't have anti static hoses. Thank you.
Hey Matt, I would just like to add that Bosch makes a sander that rivals the ETS 150/5, its the Bosch GEX34-6N that comes in at approx. $259 on HD if you were curious about doing a comparison. I actually have the Bosch sander and really like it. I would love the have the festool but this sander is quite nice for the price point in my opinion. The biggest difference between the two that is blatant is the size, festool has a much slimline design. Anyways thanks for your time love your channel. God Bless
Weight ,balance and the instant stop of the motor is really good too compared to the Bosch Depend on your budget but they are both great at there price point
They actually released or announced quite a lot of woodworking tools ! A 18v router, a domino type machine, a lot of sanders corded or cordless! I went to Bosch because it was the go-to masonry brand (well deserved reputation), but as an hobby-level woodworker and a car guy, I’m happy to see the direction they’re taking !
After struggling with budget 5” sanders was looking to upgrade to a professional sander but Mirka & Festool were at the top end of my budget. After seeing some reviews of the Bosch GET 150 I bought one. Dare I say almost makes sanding pleasurable, but I’m coming off a low base. In Australia the Bosch comes in a plastic box like the Festool & is half the price at around AUD$700. Early days for me but cannot speak too highly of the Bosch product.
Hi, I actually own the 5" version and Id like to point out the reason I went 5" over 6" is it has a shorter throw. I find this to be a better option for those looking to use as a finish sander more than a rapid removal sander. Just wanted to mention since it wasnt covered.
I've never used the Bosch (although I do have many other Bosch tools including the Glide miter saw which is a great saw), but run a fabrication shop where we use every model of Festool sander. Of all the minor differences between these two sanders, what to a professional shop would be the big issue is that 10 year parts guarantee. Our company runs a total of 12 compound miter saws for field work and I do the maintenance on the saws. Most are DeWalt saws and I have had to retire about 5 saws over the last year because of critical parts no longer being available. When you have a good tool that needs repair and cannot get it back in service because the manufacturer decided to change the model after a couple years, and the parts can't be found, it is extremely frustrating. So for my personal use, if I needed a sander like the Rotex, I'd probably get the Bosch instead to save the money. But if you plan to use the tool often and for many years, that ten year parts guarantee is a significant consideration.
I use the Bosch GET, Mirka Deros, Festool RTSC 400, Mafell UVA 115, Metabo DSE 280, Metabo SXE 400 As well as various others. I am thinking of the Deros against the new Festool ETSC 2 150 For the Bosch GET I use a thin soft pad that largely eliminates the "kicking"
Many of the Bosch tools are on par with Festool. Yep I said it 😁. I also have the Bosch GEX34-6N PROFESSIONAL and it’s more comparable to the Festool ETS EC 150. Great tools worth every penny. Great review as always Matt!
I was leaning towards the Dewalt, but this caught my eye when someone posted a deal alert about it recently. My issue is I have a bad left wrist after and know I'll need a third surgery in the near future, so I think a one-handed sander will be necessary in the near term.
This was completely new to me. I’m glad he done the review and I could care less if he’s getting paid for it because this is his business that pays his bills.
He didn't say it was a new sander, he said it was new to him as it probably is for most of his viewers. It's also at a price point more people will consider reasonable and buy this one when they wouldn't buy the festool.
I used a Festool Rotex at a friends house and it is a beast in its aggressive mode. What is tried was a death grip on it in that mode and that was wrong. A light hold on the rotex was the best. I was impressed with the Festool Rotex. However recently I replaced the sanding pad on the friends Rotex and it was $85.00 on Amazon so not cheap. It was the festool brand but nothing from Festool is cheap. I have the Dewalt 5" and it is a great router but dust collection leaves some to be desired.
You just found the Bosch GET75-6N sander? It's been on the market at least for 5 years. I bought one 3 years ago and love it. I mostly use it for quick stripping of wood finishes but it works great for leveling out glue ups too big for my planer. You'll want the hard pad to reduce dips you can create easily in hardwood because it is very aggressive. Another tool as good or better than Festool at half the price. Bosch's 12" miter saw is another tool as good or better than Festool's miter saw that's a lot cheaper to buy. Now Bosch should make a Mirka type orbital sander for $300.
I have had 2 of these. The first one lasted 4 years and it was 4 years of heavy and abusive use before it died. I replaced it with the same model and they are great! I need a dust extractor but recommend this sander. I am surprised you didn’t know about this earlier. I would love to see you compare the non-turbo sander to festool…hint …hint…cough … cough
It’s so much cheaper than the festool, and in my shop the professional Bosch sanders work extremely well. At the moment every piece of wood gets sanded with a Bosch gex-34 . Its festool quality at half the price
Ok rumor has it (over seas) that the Festool was actually designed off Bosch's original platform for this sander. I have owned one of these for about 8 years and totally abused it and I can't kill it!! Just replace the hook & loop pad , which Bosch has recently upgraded so I doubt they'll stop making it, and keep going. As you said just make sure you've done your arm and shoulder exercises because in turbo mode it demands you keep up with it especially with rough grit sandpaper. Amazingly, as you mentioned, in the non-tubo mode it is a very good finishing sander with dust collection on par with the Festool, it's just kind of large but I have other Bosch finishing sanders which are great, so no worries.
I don't know about the Festool but I have had the Bosch and it's a beast, or as gentle as you need it. It turbo mode, no kidding, hold on. But in lower revolutions, almost imperceptible vibration. I still think the step down Bosch is the best sander ever, with NO vibrations, and probably a better all-around, but this one is incredible, especially if you have larger projects. Usually I use this one for the rougher papers, and then switch to thinner using either a big box sander, or the Bosch 18V, which is also exceptional in every way.
i grabbed 2 of these JUST prior to pandemic from Acme. Refurbed but that only tells me they fixed whatever MIGHT have gone wrong. Love them both. I paid $189. Wish I bought 4.
It's a monster, I use it with *cubitron II discs and it eats trhough wood. It leaves a really good finish too. Love it, really recommend it. If you want to bring something really new, take a look at the new Mirka Deros RS 600. It's a direct drive (like the bosch in turbo mode) brushless sander. It should be the 1st one (direct drive) with a brushless motor. This and the new Dexos 1217 - brushless vacuum. *3m Cubitron 2 papers shouldn't be used with a rotary sander. Don't know why.. it's just stated on the box they come in. I use them anyway but be sure to use a protector pad
Bro, you are correct. We have been using these for almost 10 years for my money those things smoke Festool… they have a better grinding application than festool does… we stopped using Festool for salad surface applications. Once this sander came out there is literally no comparison.
12:00 Bosch got their own sustainer, called L-Boxx, but you have to pay for the set with the L-Boxx. If you have very little space like I have, I love it that I can choose not to take the sustainer and reduce the cost that way. I use the Bosch GET75-6 (75-150 in germany, for 150mm) as the cheaper Rotex for lager pieces. I just got sanding papers up till 180 in 6'' and do the finish and all smaller pieces with my 5'' Festool (best sander IMO). All in all maybe one of the best combinations you can buy right now, if you don't want to go all in on Festool. EDIT: The big difference, aside from the diameter, is the power of the 5'' version from Bosch. 550 watts vs 750 watts, which is a huge difference in gear mode with a bit too much preassure.
Good sander but I’ve had 2 of them in a commercial shop and have repaired both of them twice. It’s a “get what you pay for” situation. Never had any issues with our festool sander and I could have bought a 2nd one of those for the amount I spent buying/repairing the others. Not a bad tool, just don’t expect it to be festool quality at that price.
Just like their previous Rolex copy from ages ago, the Bosch dual action sander uses plastic gears. As do the old and new Makita versions. Hence why we still buy the 6” Festool and also hence why they charge what they want.
Almost every woodworking channel nowadays makes "is this festool killer?!" videos. No cheap single tools will never dethrone family of systems that work great together. Even if its a good tool but unless its compatible to other vacs for example, it never takes off as a go to brand
I'm doing a walnut live edge coffee table and kept seeing people using rotex on those. At that price point, I wasn't even considering it but at this price point, I might. Are these considerably better than a makita corded random orbital?
I have this BOSCH BOSCH GET75-6N, it is as good as the Festool 6-inch RO 150 Rotex Sander, the other BOSCH sander that is very good is the BOSCH GEX34-6N 6 In, it compares very well to the Festool ETS EC 150/5, it is better than the Festool IMO and at around $260 it is less than half the price of the Festool ETS EC 150/5
What about the Maxx XT 6" sander? Does anyone else here have it? Ive been using mine for about the last yr and really like it! Also its around the $200 range.
you should include a veneer test, the big sanders tend to burn through veneer really quickly, if they vibrate a lot they tend to burn the corners of panels as you have to hold on and press down to hard to maintain control. Most people using 400 dollar sanders are in cabinet shops using a lot of veneer plywood, Every test I see of these sanders leaves this out. The big shops use finish sanders to avoid this problem. Almost no one is using one of these sanders to take wood from rough to finished quality, so that test, and that feature are nearly meaningless. Maybe if you are a hardwood floor person it is relevant, but even they have industry specific sanders that would eclipse the usefulness of these really aggressive sanders.

I saw it as low as 220 on Amazon a few months ago.
Since it's November I would not be surprised if that deal becomes available in the next 2 weeks
I got it for $209 before tax in July. Now I need to open the box. ;)
They are out of stock on the web site and at the Lowes near me.

Thank you.
Makita makes the BO6050J as well, same class feature set. It was my Festool alternative prior to this model Bosch.
The Maxxt sander comes with a removable pad that can use 5- or 6-inch disc. I got this one and a triangle one to get in those difficult spots.
God Bless
Weight ,balance and the instant stop of the motor is really good too compared to the Bosch
Depend on your budget but they are both great at there price point
very cool! Bosch seems to be very deliberate lately with their woodworking market
They're definitely making some noise in the market!
This is interesting because I saw an older version of this sander maybe you have seen it. Very nice tool
Top of line bosch RO sanders are very good too. Very minimal vibration when using and fraction of cost of festool.
I own one of this and its a beast i love it
Looks like a great product and an even better price. Once again great review.
Yes! This is a great sander as well as their orbital. Surprisingly good 👍
Good job, there is another good sander on the market reasonably priced. I just purcgased two recently. The MAX is the one for us on a budget.
Thanks for the review!
I have a Porter Cable 505. Love it for heavy duty sanding
The Bosch is on sale at Lowe's for $279 thru 11/15. Think I'm going to do some tool shopping after work.
This sander has been around for years. I love your channel but this almost seems like a paid ad vs a new find.
I only learned about this sander a few months ago. For some of us, it is new.
You gotta make content even if it's bs
Yea, but not all of us knew about it. Relax and get off of your high horse. You’ll enjoy it.
Very interesting. Very interesting. Thank you foe this review
Finally. I asked you to review this months ago
I have the Bosch sander and it is an excellent sander!
This sander works great. Have been using them for years
My wife goes into Turbo Mode when I come home smelling like beer and fun
They also sell a hard pad and soft pad replacement . I bought one and it works perfectly
Oooh great review😊
Could you do a review of reusable hearing protection? Thank you.
Hey great vid, realy open minded wich is rare when it comes to festool comparisons :D
Btw the Bosch is also available in a box called L-Boxx
Makita has one also
Awesome demo as usual dude. 🤘
I have an earlier model of this and it is fantastic.
Oh no! He said it .... Game Changer!
Price and performance. Yes sir!
Very cool Sander tool 👍👍
Bro, you are correct. We have been using these for almost 10 years for my money those things smoke Festool… they have a better grinding application than festool does… we stopped using Festool for salad surface applications. Once this sander came out there is literally no comparison.
I have that sander and it’s a freaking beast! I’m sure the Festool is better, but I doubt twice as good.
Makita also has a gear driven 6" sander at a similar price point that might be worth looking at.
In Europe we know about Bosch/Makita products. I had my eye on the similar mode years ago.
Great video! Please compare them to the new geardriven Mirka Deros RS 600
Question - and sorry if I missed it in the review, is the pad hard or soft?
It’s a hard pad
So Bosch is big on parts availibility too and able to repair it yourself for a reasonable price too.
Can you compared the Festool ets ec 150 vs makita GOB01CZ
I only use Bosch sanders.... have 3 of them
Almost every woodworking channel nowadays makes "is this festool killer?!" videos. No cheap single tools will never dethrone family of systems that work great together. Even if its a good tool but unless its compatible to other vacs for example, it never takes off as a go to brand
Nothing beats the Mirka/3M style sander with pressure sensitive trigger. Can't do without mine which a Chinese clone of the Mirka😅
I'm doing a walnut live edge coffee table and kept seeing people using rotex on those. At that price point, I wasn't even considering it but at this price point, I might. Are these considerably better than a makita corded random orbital?
You need to specify *which* Makita sander model to get a good comparison.
I love my Bosch 6in dual mode Sander. And I got it for $209 on sale on Amazon. You couldn't swap me any of the competitors for it.
I don’t know about the bosch, but the festool can do a polish
Is that Bosch made in Switzerland? I had a similar looking random orbit Bosch that was made in Switzerland.
Hi Matt. Have you done a review on the Makita BO6050J sander?
I haven’t tried that one yet
Think you'll like that one too.
I looked hard at this but went with the Festool. The reviews from multiple sites scared me
.
When I think system I think battery, these plug in so wouldn't that be irrelevant?
Had mine for 6 months.... shocked how cheap it was on Amazon. Amazon always has Black Friday Bosch deals so I'd hold off.
Can you test the rigid 6” sander next? It’s under $200 I believe.
Check bosch gex18-125 for jaw drop
And that cheap clone of mirka , there is second gen of it
What about the Maxx XT 6" sander? Does anyone else here have it? Ive been using mine for about the last yr and really like it! Also its around the $200 range.
My Bosch came with a sustainer
you should include a veneer test, the big sanders tend to burn through veneer really quickly, if they vibrate a lot they tend to burn the corners of panels as you have to hold on and press down to hard to maintain control.
But, what are the guts of the Bosch like compared to the Festool? You might have to buy three Bosch to one Festool over time.
