This episode features my favorite dialogue from Angelique - the curse. It’s the ultimate expression of venom and rage. The cracks in her voice and the intensity of her eyes are chilling.
❤ Love. Her. So. Much. ❤

I deeply regret that I never got to meet her. My mom wouldn't let us watch the show, but the Sci-Fi channel (as it was called at the time) broadcasted the entire series in the 1990s. Lara Parker was either the spokesperson for or the president of the Dark Shadows fan club, so I got to see her during many commercial breaks.

Angelique shows her true evil wickedness to Barnabas who underestimates her powers and thinks he can outwit her.

It has always bothered me that Barnabas did not even try to raise his arms to protect himself from the bat nor try to swat it away.
Of course, I know that they had him not do that because of the fragility of the bat prop suspended by string from a stick held by someone, which is plainly visible at one point in the scene.
Still, they could have written in something in the scene to explain him not batting at the bat. For example, they could have shown him to be unable to move and only stare at the bat with fear because the vampire bat had the power to mesmerize him.

    Still totally awesome.

Abigail is as clueless as Trask.
She labelled Angelique as a possible witch at worse, and at best a mere golddigger, but since Trask's exorcism that resulted in Vicki running out into his arms, with Angelique having witnessed it (when in fact she caused it) now has Abigail changing her tune and has welcomed Angelique into the family, since Angelique is more than willing to testify against Vicky.
Angelique threatens to kill Sarah if Barnabas even thinks of going to Josette. He shoots her. I don't blame him one bit, but why didn't he aim for her head? That's what I would have done.
Barnabas has now been cursed and bitten by a bat. This will definitely not bode well for him, or for the ones that he loves.

It was very difficult for anyone to accurately aim the pistols of that time. Pistols then were usually smooth bore rather than rifled, which caused bullets fired by such pistols to tumble in flight reducing accuracy.
Furthermore, Barnabas was shooting very quickly after grabbing the pistol and turning around in order to give Angelique no time to react and use her powers to stop him. It is very difficult to aim even a modern handgun accurately in such circumstances despite what many movies would have you believe.
Duels fought with pistols in the 1700s rarely resulted in an immediate death because of the difficulty of aiming the pistols accurately because of the smooth bore and the rule that the gun be fired within 3 seconds after turning to face the opponent leaving too little time to aim accurately. Some pistols with rifled bores were starting to be made, but it was considered unsporting to use such pistols in a duel. If one of the participants in the duel were actually hit by the bullet, if they died it would usually be sometime later from blood loss and/or infection of the wound; rarely was there an immediate kill.
The bullet hitting Angelique in the chest just below the shoulder could have been the result of Barnabas aiming as best he could at her head or her heart.
Too bad Barnabas did not think to have the local blacksmith make him an iron chain mail net that he could have hidden in the room and quickly retrieved to throw over Angelique after he shot her in order to break her magic until he was able to reload the pistol and shoot Angelique in the head at close range, or perhaps light her on fire, which is the most effective way to kill a witch (later episodes show Angelique being very afraid when she is threatened with fire).
