5 more years of Army and I’ll be fully retired. Got a small lot of land in the north east AZ area. Navajo nation to be exact, thanks to my wife being Navajo. Can’t wait to have goats and chickens and be outside working 16 hours a day on my land. Love watching your videos.

I need to buy some land. I've wanted to go off grid for a while. I became a widow at 39. I'm 57 now. I dont have an income at the moment. I've basically given up. I'm stuck in Arkansas, I moved from Texas 4 years ago. Anyway. I enjoy watching your videos. I have 8 dogs at the moment. Rescues. ✌♥️🇺🇸
I live n my car n SoCal; m a senior veteran; shared this w someone I know who lives n her RV up n ur area; and I know a lady who sold her hm n NJ, and bot 65 acres n KY, to become self sufficient! I continue to admire everyone who is able to do this! 💜
Nice dude u did it how inspiring. This is what i want to do and also start a movement out of. People need to see how effecient it can be to leave the cities. Cheers to you buddy for living out the dream and putting in the work.
I have been watching sporadically for several months, after the purchase of our 40 acres (gotta get a mule). Anyhow, I told the hub about your channel and he surprised me with your book for Christmas! Ha , guess he listens after all!
Just to give you a word of my failures growing vine crops I had to order good larva or bugs to take care of the vine bores so I ordered these pests to eat them and don't damage the crops they are used in organic gardens just thought I could give you something to think about as a friend love what you have gone will the homestead.
Inspiring! Thanks for educating us on what you're learning. It is good to see folks who have entry level husbandry skills thriving in a harsh environment. For those of us with limited experience, it gives us courage. Keep the videos coming.
Beautiful man you're doing it up that is the life I salute you 100% take care of yourself I want to do stuff like this one day just to live in the quiet the peace
I think it's incredible how far you've advanced on your own 50 miles away from civilization. It's a lot of work doing all those chores. I know you like living out there and there are definitely some pluses being off the grid and not having neighbors. Do you ever get lonely being all by yourself? I know when the sun goes down, there's a sense of peacefulness being away from the grind. I think you have really done a fantastic job doing all that. God bless ya Brother!
Hi new neighbor! Coming your way very soon. Pretty much replicating a lot of the same but would love to have your book to tell me more of how tos. Single 52 yr old gal going to give it a shot on my own! Thanks . Look forward to watching more of your videos. Thank you!!
If I win the book, please sign it - Ang, you got this...take that first step. Thanks. I love watching your channel as I am getting ready to start my journey out in Arizona.
To HuskyBlooMoose, and The Cosmic Island Farm, looking forward to having you as another Arizona homesteader!! From Utah, now in Colorado, and ready to set roots in Arizona!! Love your channel!! Jason “HuskyBlooMoose” The Cosmic Island farmer
John, it's astonishing and inspiring to watch how your homestead has grown! Been following your channel from nearly the beginning and you make so much of it look easy, digging that geothermal greenhouse with a $4 shovel! Your attitude and ideas have turned that raw land into a magnificent, FUNCTIONAL homestead and given many others hope in figuring out how to do something similar. :) Cheers! - Chrissy
Looks so peaceful. You have accomplished a lot there. Nice. I was looking at your garden and thinking a worm farm might help you improve your soil in the greenhouses. Help break down that plant matter.
Great video today, thank you. I'm waiting for my house to sell and then I will be up north somewhere. You could sign it; good luck on the sale of your house and your dreams to begin!
Great channel. I've watched most of your videos thus far. Let me say sandy lome will grow nearly anything provided there is enough humidity. Im in south Texas and number 1 thing I choose to grow is yellow squash because it gives the most food by weight throughout the year. They do well in mounds but expect them to cover an area of 3-4 ft squared, which could hog up sunlight. But with your idea of growing plants that grow up on the outer walls that leaves a lot of room. Pole beans, cucumbers and roma tomatoes would be ideal. Potatoes and radishes are fine in buckets. I used 1 bucket with a square cut out for my hand to fit and holes drilled out the bottom and placed inside another bucket with holes drilled out. Then I lift the inner buckets and harvest what I wanted. I am excited to see how your new garden comes along, and that plastic tarp draped over should help provide humidity in a dry climate.
How kool is that, i watched a couple of your vedios i have 10 wooded acres in conway,mo. i done the Old Mc Donald thing,it keeps you going. l had chickens, goats, calfs, one horse,pigs..i couldnt go anyplace had to set and feed,,,,,im retired now went horse back riding in Arizona, and camped in New Mexico...maybe come see you...joe osiel
Hi Jeri, this drawing is long over but for my birthday I'm giving all 3 of my ebooks away free. you can download each of them from my website frugaloffgrid.com
Some day I want to help sell your book at my own homestead. for now I am a huge fan of yours. I am frugal yet still have to deal with a bit of the rat race...some day is tomorrow.
I'm out fairly close to you, I think. I just moved my RV on ten acres and darn near froze to death when the snow came in Jan . How do you handle the winter in a van? Keep the vids coming !
Thanks for keeping it real. It's not easy, but you make it work to live the dream. Keep on keepn on! Been following since early on and love being able to see you and the homestead continue to grow. Sign To Bonnie (no, not your pig lol) sign, your name and channel proudly! I'm honored to have a namesake, although we don't really favor much😁.
Only just found this channel I live in North Texas so im very interested in how you deal with heat , I struggle due to being from Britain and im not off grid lol Subbed and hit thumbs up now im off the bing watch all videos before this one 😊
I live in phx , and im just itching to buy a piece of land somewhere where it actually gets cold here in Arizona I don’t know where yet, I love what you’re doing you’re inspiring me I’m definitely learning from you I cannot wait to make that purchase on a piece of land
HI John, I enjoyed this video. I am most interested in the plants you are growing because I am a vegetarian. If I had a homestead would not have animals except as pets. I enjoy seeing your dogs they have plenty of space to play. You have built up your place a lot. Good Luck😉
Maybe YOU should do a quail shed. Lol kidding. I like my chickens and it's already a lot of work with all my livestock. I may never try other birds. We'll see. 😁
Hi neighbor, I too am in the high desert.. I'm just wondering what's the best way to start my compost bin.. I've got a tiny house with a bucket toilet so that's my compost.. no animals for me but need to get a shed built and a greenhouse would help too.
That depends on the county you're in. I would contact them for specifics. Otherwise without restrictions, you simply add manure, paper and vegetation like grass clippings. It will be compost in no time.
question? why dont you put your rabbits in one of your green houses, 1) they will add their manure to the planting areas,. 2) they might add a little extra heat to your plants,, try kale i grew it down in NEW MEXICO when i lived there, collards, mustards, zuccini , yellow crook neck squash, chilis, of course grew well, plus you can dehydrate all of these as well by thinly slicing them and hanging them out of your way,, keep up the great work!!
Ive got an acre in southwest new mexico in agriculture area but zoning doesnt allow living in an rv without power sewer and well and no tiny homes under 600sf. Needless to say i am staying in my 5th wheel down the road from my land in an rv park while i gather resources to drill a well and setup solar and septic. Im going to be putting an earthbag home once i get the plans signed by an engineer and homesteading. The soil here is rich and anything you throw into it just grows. But i wish i could go about it the way you did but code enforcement even being 10 miles outside of town has made people move from their under 600sf tiny homes out here.
