Everyday this type of Lifestyle appeals to me more and more. Being a Christian and watching the direction this world is going in, it makes me want to get back to the basics more than ever. I personally think that my life was filled with so much more when I had less !!❤
This is the 1st time I’ve seen you. The peace that you have by being self sufficient and content with yourself is what is completely appealing to me. I would live your lifestyle in a heartbeat, except that I am disabled and couldn’t do the physical work. Fortunately, I’ve found similar peace just living with my service dog (Samson) and doing the artwork that makes my heart happy. I’ve also accomplished 7 college degrees, including a PhD, all on my own. I’m about to complete my 2nd PhD. I guess that I’ve found my peace and solitude inside myself similar to you. God speed my friend. Follow your heart. If you truly do what makes your heart sing, the rest will take care of itself. Stay safe, warm and have a truly blessed day. Btw: I subscribed to your channel!
You are truly the embodiment of ‘salt of the earth’, and I really admire you for living your dream, on your own terms. Not just that, but to see someone possess such self awareness as to make the choices that are in full alignment with their core values, and for those choices to bring such joy and a sense of accomplishment, is beautiful sight indeed. Sir, you are an impressive soul; thank you for sharing🙏🙌
I love that salt of the earth comment. It has only recently come to my awareness that magnesium, epsom SALT is used in small amounts to feed plants. A tiny bit in water can make houseplants vibrant and green! Prior to this, I always thought of salt as just some flavor on a steak.
Having a nice nature and being a hard worker can lead to being taken advantage of for sure. Often times it can lead to being bitter. I am inspired how you have sorted it out and have taken action to gently move away from it to find your peace. Always look forward to your videos.
I am so please that I stumbled upon your videos! Your commitment to your animals, your lifestyle, self improvement and exemplary work ethic is inspiring. You have forged a wonderful and rewarding homestead and lifestyle for yourself. I enjoy my dog, horse and donkey as well. They are amazing and more than satisfactory companions. So happy for you!! 😊
This is a great summary video. You are now the most prepared off-grid person ready for these crazy times. You are an example how anyone can do this if you have the determination. For myself I am doing the Tiny Home; taking it to my Off-Grid. I like some immediate available life luxuries; get those foundational infrastructure setup before you go off-grid full time. Then do those projects and get the rest done without stressing. Good Luck to everyone.
Hi there! This is the first video I've seen from you and I have to say it was refreshing to see and hear someone who's found a sense of purpose and contentment with life. Congratulations on all that you've achieved so far, from weight loss to mental health to self-sufficiency. I'm looking forward to exploring more of your video. Cheers!
I love watching your journey and seeing how far you've come. If my husband would go for it, I'd live the kind of life you've created. You've made a wonderful home and it's just going to keep getting better. I live vicariously through your journey, as I work so many hours of my life chained to my desk working my job.
Im back around people. For 34 years I was away from people in the Mountains. The Beautiful Mountains. Cut and split my fire wood for heat. With people comes Drama. It was so cold I kept my beer in the fridge so it wouldnt freez. I miss it!
one of the only channels that seem to be really chugging along at a realistic scale/project size/ scope that real people with normal money could afford if they work hard. so many channels u can tell they got millions to set up their place like they want.
Hi John! I recently discovered your channel. I love what your doing. I've wanted to do something similar for a while too and I'm finally making it happen. You've inspired me a lot. Thanks!
You mentioned some things I've found to be true as I'm off-grid too. I have an appreciation for the tasks I work at, and to some degree I don't consider chores as work mostly. We have so much of life this way. The sky and wind, the water we harvest and the plants we grow. It's a better path for me.
You do you!! I can surely relate. My husband ran off a year and a half ago. I thought id lose my mind but, instead, i am so at peace and i realize that i was pretending. I was going along with how "the system" says your supposed to live. I was never happy pretending to fit in. I dont miss the anxiety and pressure. I don't have a fancy home anymore, but i LOVE living in my rv. When you live simply, you don't need a ton of money. We don't have to fall for the lie that says that you HAVE to run the rat race and make the system rich. Good for you! Be blessed and thank you for sharing your life with us!!
I lived like that off the grid for 8 years until husband got very physically abusive, VERY! But I left and went on my own back into a small town, as the 3 acres was his land. So bummed to be back on the grid 😢 that way of life was so rewarding and chill! Kudos to you, man!
✨🔥💖🔥✨ Genuinely happy for you. Im the same w people... Societal norms are so toxic and transactional. The hardest is people mistaking kindness for weakness. I feel like an alian on this planet or like everyone is zombies and you have to constantly make moves to avoid the insanity. Any fcking way 😅 your doing a great job and what you have built is the real wealth.
I just liked and subscribed to your channel. I live in Upstate New Hampshire semi off-grid, meaning I use my stream water, I have electricity and I Heat by wood...I TOTALLY understand the struggle. Big kudos to you
People depend too much on labels. It's your life, live it how you want to! You further than you were before you moved to where you are. Are you happy? Content? Calm? That's what truly matters. God bless.
Thanks for sharing all this. You're a great role model. I've been thinking of doing something like this for a few years, and it's very reassuring to me to see that even someone of limited means can achieve this kind of independence and blessed solitude.
The freedom of being able to enjoy the beauty of nature and animals ,the privilege of planting your own food 🥝 is one of the best gifts from God. ,,I have a van I just got I have been sleeping in it ,,my goal God willing getting it ready and find land where I can stay and grow my food. Thank you for your time.
I felt that when you talked about a strong work ethic and not getting the recognition that you deserve. I'm in a skilled trades union and it seems the guys they like on a personal level get better treatment even tho you out perform them on a daily basis.
This is awesome- I’m sharing with my 20’s sons- we live in southern AZ… they are interested in mini homes due to the affordability issues- hopefully they will watch this…
First, I’d like to say… well done man. In my opinion, you are by far, richer in life than someone in a million dollar home and drives a Lamborghini. This… is the dream. Like you, I don’t care to be around a lot people… actually people in general. I like to be alone but I never feel lonely. I wish I would’ve figured out what I needed and wanted in life sooner. I will have my own spot one day. And you’re right. I have said for years now… my time is the most valuable thing I have. Good luck out there, and keep up the great works. Glad I found you and I’ll subscribe and follow your journey brother.
Well, I am impressed! You are amazing. I envy you, but being 72 years old, I would never be able to accomplish all that. I love your philosophy, and your strength. You have more than most people, and I’m not just talking about the material things. I hope you are proud, you should be! I am a new follower.
I am amazed at how you struggled out of a background with the parent problems … I’ve always known how blessed I was to have had my parents … you are very creative … God bless you …

I’m currently a truck driver basically following in your footsteps, I feel the exact same way about work ethic and people and my personal space and solitude, I’m currently looking for properties to build a passive solar homestead with next to nothing for extra cash , I appreciate your perspective and am glad there are other people like me like you out in the world doing their own thing !
You're straight out of Walden Pond by Henry David Thoreau. He inspired me to buy a small house, deep in the woods and take care of what really mattered which was me. I picked berries fell trees and split them for firewood etc. My favorite thing besides splitting firewood, was cruising through my woods and enjoying nature and solitude.

Thank you . I have the same feelings in regards about people. I have few friends but the ones I have seem to be real friends. I help these people when asked and never as for anything in return. I could use help some times but never ask for help/ I a,m very independent in what I do. I wish at times I built off grid but didn't. I have a lot of pride like you in what you have accomplished by your own two hands. That is what gives me my pleasure along with a good family and wife. Being outside is me /inside after a bit gets me on edge. I need to be doing something . Life has been good and when the day comes its over I will have to say I am lucky even at times it is frustrating. Take care and keep following your heart.

People don’t understand how to live off grid. People that want to live off grid try to live like in the city with convenient and home in the city. Many people don’t understand that they must have wide variety of knowledge of fixing their own homes problem. A hard work ethic is a must. I live totally off grid on my mini farm/ranch. I work in freezing cold conditions every day. Cattle and chickens and pigs and cutting wood for heating and cooking. I have my own well and solar. I started with nothing, working 7days to save money to build my own house. You are doing everything right. You will have your home in a few years. You’re right about people they all have an ass hole.
This is awesome. Thanks for giving such a real look into off grid living. I love the freedom and solitude of vanlife, but mostly I love that when it gets cold, I can drive away. Props to you for braving the winter
Keep on doing what you are doing. You are an inspiration to a lot of people, and probably are happier than most. Thank you for the videos, and for showing what is possible.
You're the first English speaking off-grid UA-camr I've seen who I didn't want to punch in the face. That being said, thank you for being you. It's nice to see common sense marry hard work, I just can't help but wonder how much knowledge we've lost as a civilization who used to homestead and help each other.
Your story from beginning to end has touched me deeply. We didn't even have to pay for EHarmony lol How amazing it is to have so much in common except I live in a small apartment in Maine but my health keeps me from living off grid although if the weather was warmer year round its possible I could do it. I need little to make me happy. I love animals, gardening and being alone too. Thank you for sharing your story. I started to think I was the only one who felt like you but its nice to know you exist. Oh my mom, she's 77 and still yelling and screaming. I talk to her sometimes out of guilt. God bless you 🙏 Stay safe and warm ❤

Wow. Very cool. I totally relate. I bought a small ranch in Florida a few years back. Heavily wooded, very private. I have a few neighbors but they live on big properties too, so seldom ever see anyone. I should have done this 30 years ago. I had the ability to do it back then but was to stupid to know better. I thank God everyday for this land and lifestyle. I'm sure you do too. Enjoy.

Once I thought of living in Alaska. My friend had been there while he was in military. He told me bad idea because you will spend all summer cutting fire wood and all day in winter sitting by fire burning the wood. Good luck and stay close to God
I lived in Alaska as a kid. A man's house burned down and he had left his truck keys in thr house that was burning. He was so far away that no one knew, so he froze to death. You actually get paid to live there and they aren't strict with building on your own land. So, there are definitely pros. Plus it's really the last frontier...so beautiful. Grizzlies might wander onto your property. I was little and the grizzly alerts on post scared me. The PNW is probably as cold as I can handle. I do miss Alaska sometimes.
I just subscribed to your channel because you are a very humble person and that's rare. You are doing your own thing in your own time, you should be proud. And yes, you can't make more time. Saludos

If you could grow water hyacinth in your outdoor pond that would be awesome because it likes dirty water, thrives in it actually, like kelp style growth rate and is crazy invasive when it has the right conditions. a great source of biomass

It's not an easy life, nor hard, once you accept it. Through blood, sweat and caluses we earned it. So have you! Most people will not and can't understand. Just got to live it. Our place may never be done, but what fun os that. Keep trucking Brother, you're doing great. Pete
The noise and drama gets louder or more grating on the nerves in these later days. Your doing an awesome job of creating a sustainable life. Your so far ahead of most people you should know that your on the right path . Blessings abundantly!
I’m like you in many ways sir. As a marine I love solitude and also had a similar raising with mom and dad arguing every day. Drama and things of that nature I stay far far away from civilization. I’d love to do what you have been able to do, congrats.

My step dad was a Marine. He would take me way out and leave me in the woods. Scared the hell out of me the first time. I grew to love it. Thanks for sharing.
From one Marine to another. If you want it do it and never look back. SEMPER Fi.

I agree semper Fi
Everyday this type of Lifestyle appeals to me more and more. Being a Christian and watching the direction this world is going in, it makes me want to get back to the basics more than ever. I personally think that my life was filled with so much more when I had less !!❤
Amen jesus is watching this man
This is the 1st time I’ve seen you.
Seven degrees! What subjects are the degrees?
You are truly the embodiment of ‘salt of the earth’, and I really admire you for living your dream, on your own terms. Not just that, but to see someone possess such self awareness as to make the choices that are in full alignment with their core values, and for those choices to bring such joy and a sense of accomplishment, is beautiful sight indeed. Sir, you are an impressive soul; thank you for sharing🙏🙌
So well said!
Thanks a lot! A donkey would be good company.
Your dog's are nice. From outside Philly.@@FrugalOffGrid
Cheers!
Welcome!
Your channel is becoming one of my favorite channels,I love authentic people just living their best life 🙌 so refreshing!
Glad you enjoy it!
I have a somewhat homestead I have developed..u are really getting it done...nice job..thnx for ur motivation ,it inspires me..
THIS!!!
I just went almost off grid, I love it it’s hard work! But it’s worth it! God Bless you my friend for your amazing accomplishments!
Hi John! I recently discovered your channel. I love what your doing. I've wanted to do something similar for a while too and I'm finally making it happen. You've inspired me a lot. Thanks!
Welcome aboard!
✨🔥💖🔥✨
Genuinely happy for you.
💎🏆 You remind me of a real Viking.
True to self, strong, independent,
devoted to the real things.
My interest stemmed from 2 books: "My Side of the Mountain", and an Australian book called "Taronga"
i love the book my side of mountain
read it the first time when i was 6 and always wanted live like that
Hallelujah brother. Like minded introvert from Canada here. Love what you are doing.
I appreciate that
The freedom of being able to enjoy the beauty of nature and animals ,the privilege of planting your own food 🥝 is one of the best gifts from God. ,,I have a van I just got I have been sleeping in it ,,my goal God willing getting it ready and find land where I can stay and grow my food. Thank you for your time.
You're a beast brother. Congrats to you and your successes. Right on! And thanks for sharing...
You're an inspiration bud! Keep on choosing what makes you happy. I'm for ya 👍
Well, I am impressed! You are amazing. I envy you, but being 72 years old, I would never be able to accomplish all that. I love your philosophy, and your strength. You have more than most people, and I’m not just talking about the material things. I hope you are proud, you should be! I am a new follower.
I am amazed at how you struggled out of a background with the parent problems … I’ve always known how blessed I was to have had my parents … you are very creative … God bless you …
Brother! You have done it all right! You arent missing a thing out here. Drop into society when absolutley required and then get out.. Be proud... If I was close I would def have you at my campfire👌🙏👊
Props to you my friend - you have done well for yourself and I thank you for the efforts to share your knowledge with those of us that seek it.
I totally agree 😊 love your garden. This looks like such a free way to live. Not tied up in meetings and obligations... Beautiful life ❤
I’m new to your channel and journey, I found your channel from an interview you did in 2021, this video explains your journey that brought you here further.
Thank you for sharing your life and lifestyle.😊
9:50 "I'm not rich by any means..." Buddy you do not realize how very rich you are!!! We have been on a small acreage for nearly 30 years and are transforming it into a small homestead. It is hard work and we are still working out the details trying to get completely off grid. I salute you and admire your tenacity and resourcefulness. You have my utmost respect. Blessings brother from Northern Alberta, Canada!!
First time viewer here... Wow, I really enjoyed hearing your story. It's amazing how 'work' ceases to be work when the passion switch is turned on. Thank you for this very colourful tour of your extremely interesting (and relevant) life. - Peace my brother. :)
Reminds me of the movie Bar Fly when Faye Dunaway asks Mickey Rourke if he hated people. He said "No , but I do feel better when they are not around".
So envious! Your homestead is beautiful! Stay safe!!!
I remember your 1st 1 when u arrived on your land with your van tailer and your water tanks.. Its amazing how far you've come since then I can only congratulate you on all your hard work.. 👍
I love how you immediate were like "dont judge me" when you stared at the camera saying sometimes I shower every 3-5 days, LMAO - That was awesome and as guy myself, there is no judegment or anything wrong with that but it was very funny your smerk and comment when looking into the camera. Keep up the positive motivation for some us as we appreciate it during these crazy times.
Congratulations. Happy New Year!
Hi u are my friend i wanted to do what you have done but I didn't because of family now I to old and I have health problem so you know what you want just be careful and safe may god bless you each and every day
Just found your channel I would like to thank you for your content. I will live vicariously through you my new friend as I had to leave the US due to age, injury and income. I sincerely look forward to more of your videos. Keep up the Great work.
Thanks again, Jon

Welcome
I've been living off grid for almost 15 years and love it. It's not an easy life but only for the right person.
So happy for you and your accomplishments! Good for you for doing the work on yourself! Your happiness shines through ☺️ great channel 👍🏼
Wow dude, you’ve come so far! I’m really happy to see this and hear about all the cool experiences you’ve had since I was there. Keep it up dude!
Yeah, what he said!
Dear John, This old lady thinks you're a trip. What you are doing is healthy and inspiring. Made my morning! And the way you take care of your animals is wonderful--thanks.
Wow. Enjoy.
I love it!!! Give your time to yourself! Literally your most precious resource!
Really inspiring video. Kept me hooked. Don't stop the other video formats though. Love it all.
Deal!
Excellent job. It sure looks like the East Mountains here in NM. Keep it up.
I dig it"! im getting ready to go off grid myself, I've been working on getting ready for almost 4 years. I got sick of the whole lie along time ago.
YES!!! You must be a part of my generation! You got this brotha! I am glad I found you on here!
GM John ☕️☕️. I’ve been away for awhile…. My TBI & holidays take a toll on me physically & mentally. Then the flu🤨🤨.
Been with you since beginning & admire your beliefs, ethics & perseverance. Today was extremely enjoyable as it was like talking with.. or listening to.. a real friend. You have found your little niche of heaven 😇😇 and you are Happy 😍 which makes me happy 🤩 money & material things don’t make you truly happy inside cuz you always Want something more to fill an empty spot.
I am so proud of you & what you have accomplished. No keeping up with the Jones’s here ‼️.
Keep being you cuz that is special 😍
From nw Northern Nevada 👵🏻👩🌾❣️
Fitst time watching and subscribing.
This was a great episode. Please post something.on how to keep your cistern water clean and how you filter it?
Peace
You are my favorite You Tube watch John.....fascinated by your homestead. All the best....Mike (Regina, Saskatchewan Canada)
I remember getting up and it was freezing cold. I was crushing news paper to start the fire and I would stop so I could read an artical. I MISS the mountains!!
Once I thought of living in Alaska. My friend had been there while he was in military. He told me bad idea because you will spend all summer cutting fire wood and all day in winter sitting by fire burning the wood. Good luck and stay close to God
Life is meant to live until you die.death ain’t no big deal!
Honest, hard working, and no BS. I really liked this one!
You have done a DAMN GOOD JOB with your homestead and property!! It is absolutely awesome!!
I just subscribed to your channel because you are a very humble person and that's rare. You are doing your own thing in your own time, you should be proud. And yes, you can't make more time. Saludos
Welcome aboard!
You’re doing it! Glad to see the hard work paying off.
i like how you said you werent building a house until you could do it RIGHT, the camera pans to the right and we see an absolutley gorgeous horse pen, man you got everything figured out, very impressive homie
Thanks. I built it as cheaply as possible with hopes of it lasting. I have just started footers for my new home.
Honestly I have to say this is one of the best videos you have done
I appreciate your feedback
I think your living what alot and i mean "ALOT" of us would love to be living. You spoke word's that most Americans feel they want but don't know how to achieve what you're doing. I praise you for taking the step for a better life for your self and yours.
Great job. Inspirational. First watched you when you first started. I'm always looking for areas to do this and I think you found a good one. Keep up the good work.
Brother: This reminds me of a favorite song by The Who, _Baba O’Riley._ Much respect and regard. 🙏🏽💛
What a remarkable young man you are! You’ve accomplished so much!
Good video, Honest and up front and that is the way it should be. The homestead is looking great. You did alot of work. Nice job.
If you could grow water hyacinth in your outdoor pond that would be awesome because it likes dirty water, thrives in it actually, like kelp style growth rate and is crazy invasive when it has the right conditions. a great source of biomass
I feel your sentiments good sir.
Doing something similar and it’s cool to hear someone talk about the same issues and hurdles…
