I was really really hoping i was seeing a blue tinge when he started spraying it silver. Thank goodness. I reckon it's going to look stunning in the sun with the bright-work attached.
Absolute STUNNER! The first coat looked a little mottled, I was a bit concerned, but the subsequent coats flowed right out... Can't wait to see it with closing panels fitted!!!
@@philtucker1224 Correct. But if you've ever sprayed metallic paint, you'll know that the first coat sets the stage for the following coats. It can be hard to get rid of the patterns that appear in the first... A lot of painters will "Hollywood" it early in the spray to ensure even coverage because of this issue... The guy spraying def knew what he was doing to get it flattened out.
@@philtucker1224 If you've sprayed the silver then I'm sure you understand my high "Pucker Factor" when I saw that!!! :D Nothing worse than having to grab the lacquer thinned to wipe the paint off a freshly squirted panel!
I agree - that is drop dead gorgeous. Yup. I'd be proud to drive it. You've done a fabulous job of it! And really fun to watch your progress - from test fitting the body to this beautiful paint job.
Jock from Southport. Nearly fast forwarded the video because I was getting impatient. Fantastic colour. Reminds me of a blue mink colour that my dad painted my Raleigh bike when I was about 15. Love it ❤
This car is so beautiful and it’s yours! I hope when it’s built it will be housed somewhere really warm and dry, - possibly in to your lounge? 😁😊 I hope you keep it your whole life. Live long and prosper buddy!
Seriously my favourite colour I’ve had 3 cars in this colour over the years it’s just stunning this build is imo on par with the best in uk and USA ! 👍🏻👏🇬🇧
The suspense was killing me. The darker color is what I would have done as well! So exciting! The re fitting stage will be so fun to see and enjoy! Cheers from Utah in the US
This guy (Rex Kapriellian) is currently building a gullwing, same donor car, slightly different approach, he is way behind you guys. Will be interesting to see how it goes for him, although he doesn't go into incredible detail.
He’s a very talented painter but get a mask on. Water based basecoat or not they’re still paint particles. Subtle colour choice I was expecting something like a viper green metallic with that lovely interior. Ps I remember painting a mk1 capri bonnet in cellulose back in the day, boss caught me doing it a a benson & hedge king size hanging out of the corner of my mouth( cocky 18 yo) think I’ve still got the bruise on the back of my head 40 years later.
I’ve seen lots of these Gullwings and there aren’t many colours that suit them. The original opalescent silver is clearly the definitive colour. Metallics as such did not exist back then and anything with a clear coat look’s unnaturally modern. The worst is bright colours followed closely by Matt black or cars with weird stripes on them. Jaguar had a light blue similar to yours in the 60s but not in the 50s and not as shiny. Black also looks good but I know that Ms Gullwing’s first choice is close to the colour you have chosen with a matching blue interior. Sure it will work out well.
Awesome paint job mate. It looked fantastic from initial looks of it. I can't wait to see it all buffed and polished to a mirror finish. Since you're asking if it is the right color I would dare to say no. It's not for me personally, and on top of that it's a BMW color. There's something not quite right there. If it was my car I would have done it in period correct variant of either black, white or silver. To spice it up I would have done subtle areas in matte film, for example on the lower skirts/rockers, the inside of the louvres, the inners door sills and maybe parts / stripes /letters or numbers or something. Off course very, VERY subtle and made a one off Gullwing... Thanks for good content though, enjoy it!
It's been beautifully done, but it is a bit safe for me. You said not silver, but it is about as close to silver as you can get. I would have gone dark.
Esperava uma cor bonita, prata neste modelo é tão comum! Um azul, um vermelho, branco perolizado, fiquei triste! Até o verde do Audi que vcs estão trabalhando e bonito!
Automotive porn, stunning Andy, good god you have an eye, when this all comes together, well wow, wow, wow, fantastic paint job from CoLab 11 out of 10 top work....well worth the wait, thank you, will you be putting a final cost to all this or will it be like all projects it costs what it costs and as long as the end result is what you want who care's on the cost, be nice to have some idea, ball park please...
Hi Simon as you say it costs what it costs, I think if you add up the time and money spent on projects you’d never finish them or maybe not even start another project
Look greta but I have to be fair I was hoping for something a little / ;pt more impactful and different to every other Mercedes out there. seems a little to safe a choice to me, but it's not my car
Not for me. Too much of a "factory choice" for a restomod sl, and not enough statement. But it's not my car. And if you're happy with it, that's what matters. 👍
You nailed the colour!! It evokes the classic silver most "common" to these beauties; yet is unique. Well chosen 👍
Thanks
Stunning paint job. Looks awesome.

I think the first coat of three is usually a tack coat, 20 minutes and then on to a complete second coat..

All the doors etc were painted the following day, Ben knows what he’s doing when it comes to painting
Yes, it looks wonderful. Good choice.
Absolutely fantastic! Love it. Always wanted an E46 M3 in that colour back in the day.
Beautiful colour

Looks bloody lovely mate, when all the jewellery goes on it, it will really pop. I’d be over the moon with that. 👍🏼
Very nice choice it looks well and once all the chrome is refitted it will really pop.
Stunning. That’s gonna look amazing in the sunshine
Nice colour mate, will look awesome with those wheels 👏👍

not a color i would have picked but it is pretty . and im sure once its all done its going to look great . well done fellas
Awesome pick for the colour 👏
Great choice Andi , looking forward to the fun bit now . Will you be doing a breakdown of costs after the build , or maybe best to forget that bit😂
If you add up money and time spent I don’t think you’d start or finish a project
It's Grand 👏
Love the paint job but with the chrome against the silver I think you have little to no contrast ?
It was a period pale green for me but looks great 👍

Totally agree. I’d have him doing my paint work mask or not. That prep must have been amazing.
Fabulous colour! It'll contrast beautifully with your interior 👍

Good choice of colour, it looks amazing. Well done.

Elegant colour for an elegant car, good choice
Looks good boys
fantastic bud

Looks great, probably even better In the Flesh.
That is a nice color that will fit it perfectly!

Did you do the doors on the same day in the same paint booth?
Super! But if The Doors and hood will be painted later sepperated then there will be a Color difference and you don’t want that
